- inactive, on 10/09/2008, -11/+72This has not got enough attention by the media....and Obama is too classy to start tooting his own horn about getting more support from the military(donation wise Obama has 3 to 1 advantage.) McCain is a vet that doesn't support vets....Veterans gave him a "D" grade for his voting record for vets and active military issues....Obama got a "B" from them. People need to know this....SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
- starbirix, on 10/10/2008, -9/+59This Sailor is certainly not voting for McCain.
- ellamcc, on 10/10/2008, -6/+39Check the facts: IAVA's brand new report card is out: http://www.veteranreportcard.org/ As mentioned above, none of the candidates got the A grade -- but only one got a D: John McCain
click "A Team/D List" - http://www.veteranreportcard.org/list.html Biden and Obama both got B+s on the full list: http://www.iava.org/full-ratings-list We can trust the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, many of whom are still in the military & ready to serve more tours of duty. Their report card is the way to tell if your representatives in DC only give them lip service or REAL service. Frankly, it's the least we can do to call out our elected officials if they use the military to further their own political agenda. This nonpartisan group of true heroes and patriots offers us grades based on the facts and votes. The least we can do is support them by keeping our representatives honest. - lincolnluxor, on 10/10/2008, -2/+35This Airman isn't either
- mrsbrown333, on 10/10/2008, -6/+33both my son , who is national guard, infantry, and my stepson who is army and went to iraq, and his wife, are voting obama. good kids. i am proud of all of them.
- Diggaholics, on 10/10/2008, -1/+24Nice to meet you. I'm a U.S. Marine. I'm voting for Obama. This ends your blind stance.
- HookmasterCH47, on 10/10/2008, -5/+28To be a democrat in the service is a tricky thing. I got a 2 hour lecture on a helicopter ride for making the insane statement that Bill Clinton didn't do that bad of a job... I learned my lesson. Fight for freedom, but squash all your own freedoms.
- joauri, on 10/10/2008, -7/+28My boyfriend is a Sgt in the air force. I know he will not be voting for McCain and he's a registered Republican! My father served in the military, my grandfather, all the men. We are a proud military family. None of them will be voting for McCain!
- cmootoo, on 10/10/2008, -2/+23This former soldier isn't either.
- drmangrum, on 10/10/2008, -2/+20This ex-airman isn't either.
- boyghost, on 10/10/2008, -2/+20Make that three Airmen.
- HonestPhil, on 10/10/2008, -9/+27McCain crashed 4 navy planes before going down in #5 over Hanoi - probably the most expensive navy pilot in history. Only reason he wasn't kicked out of the navy was because his Dad was an admiral. Knowing his military history, what he did to his first wife, what he did to POW-MIA families and how he tried to shield Charles Keating should be enough to disqualify him from even running - the man has NO INTEGRITY !
- Wryly, on 10/10/2008, -6/+22This doesn't surprise. The maverick's voting record has not been favorable to the troops. And I'll be honest. It makes no frickin' sense to me that he would turn his back on them.
- IphtashuFitz, on 10/10/2008, -2/+16Toss in a retired Coastie as well.
- BTime, on 10/10/2008, -1/+15Another Veteran chiming in. McCain isn't the same man he was back in 2008. He's just another party stooge now, and no longer the Maverick of old. Sorry John, but this isn't your year. If you couldn't beat an idiot like W in 2000, why do you think you could beat Obama in 2008?
- bodegit, on 10/10/2008, -4/+17This is from a Navy Captain. Commissioned Officers are typically college graduates and educated. Enlisted soldiers are typically high school graduates, if that. Less educated people vote for republicans. Enisted-Republican, Officer-Democrat
- cmootoo, on 10/10/2008, -1/+14Someone who has been posting pro-McCain comments is giving Obama supporters advice on how to prevent a high GOP voter turnout by burying digg articles?
I don't think many of of the 65+ crowd hangs out here for news. - RusskiGuy, on 10/10/2008, -4/+16Let me put it this way:
-I decided to leave the Marine Corps when Bush got re-elected.
-If McCain gets elected, I'll seriously consider leaving the country.
-If Palin somehow inherits presidency, the decision will be made for me. - drmobutu, on 10/10/2008, -2/+14Those people don't get their news from digg...
- RusskiGuy, on 10/10/2008, -2/+14This former Marine is voting Obama.
- NelsonR, on 10/10/2008, -6/+18It only took myself over 40 years to realize that the wealthy in America send the average to die in wars of aggression. No surprise within this report. George W. should go to Iraq today and pick up a weapon and win his righteous war. In the end when we leave with countless dead and wounded and billions squandered then Iran will take advantage of the civil war between Sunni and Shia.
What the F have we gained? Your Leaders, Ignorant Americans who are the uppercrust within our society. SCHMUCKS.
Sad part, most average Americans accept everything with a smile and grin. - Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2008, -1/+13How is this biased? It should be obvious. Why would military families vote for eternal war without decent equipment and armor all waged alongside contractors that are earning triple the pay and aren't subject to the military code of conduct?
- boyghost, on 10/10/2008, -2/+14The unit I'm in had a very strong leaning towards Ron Paul, and Obama is a close second. Very few people are interested at all in a McCain presidency.
- mcsenget, on 10/10/2008, -6/+17Ron Paul got more money from the military than all other Republican candidates combined!
- Diggaholics, on 10/10/2008, -1/+11The Military Times Poll, which I read today in the Marine Times, featured 4000 some readers that reinforced that idea that the military is Republican backed. But this is not a random sample, by any stretch of the imagination. Military Times subscribers are significantly older than the active military population. Nearly half of those surveyed are retirees, and minorities are under-represented. It must be made clear, due to the average ignorance of the American voter, of why the poll is being questioned. If you read the article, it comes to the conclusion that it believes Blacks favor Barack simply because of his race. Even though the White voters had a near identical support of John McCain, it suggested it was due to his Military Service and POW history. Digging deeper into the polls, Blacks favored economics as their most important issue where Whites favored Military Issues are there most important issue. Obama has a plan which is against the status quo policies of the Bush Administration that would have a bottom up philosophy. Therefore, It is simply ignorant for the Military Times to believe that Barack's race is simply the most important reason why Blacks support him. If this is true, then it is true of the white respondents as well to support John McCain simply because he is white.
- KingGorilla, on 10/10/2008, -1/+11This fish monger isn't either...
I think i'm doing this wrong - xartion, on 10/10/2008, -4/+14have fun in iran
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -3/+12Neither is this teacher.
- WorldGroove, on 10/10/2008, -1/+10FOXnews: A TVshow that's aired; one-directional and no room for conversation or disputes.
Digg: Anyone in the world can post and argue back 'n forth in realtime(more or less); people with all kinds of different backgrounds and experience with others different from themselves. Sure, alot are young people in California, but some are not.
Digg may not be perfect, but FOX news cannot compare to Digg(or the whole concept of forums/onlineComments with newsArticles) in any sense. - thegrantman, on 10/10/2008, -4/+12I read it as Cpt. Don nobody.
When the military turns on a Republican candidate, you know there are serious problems. - cmootoo, on 10/10/2008, -3/+10In the minority? Doubt it. Not everyone is ignorant enough to believe the lies coming from McCain.
- BTime, on 10/10/2008, -0/+7I meant to say he's not the same man he was back in 2000.
- boyghost, on 10/10/2008, -2/+9Neither's this one.
- tomis, on 10/10/2008, -2/+9I find it hilarious people are leaving comments like "i have/haven't met anyone who's voting for person X, so this story is like totally true/*****!!!"
- Diggaholics, on 10/10/2008, -1/+8Joe Biden's son is in the service. Obama's children are still children. Reflect the entire truth there PJR.
- fuzzynyanko, on 10/10/2008, -2/+9Being someone around educated military families, I'm seeing some lean to Obama.
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -0/+7Being a vet myself (31C 3rd Sig Ft Hood and 181st Sig Company Heidelberg), I gotta say I cannot in all honestly vote for McCain. I saw first hand what Clinton and then Bush did to the military. McCain will be more of the same. I don't know if Obama is going to be better, but he isn't Bush and he isn't McCain.
Barbara Lee, they could run a pile of dog crap against you and I'd vote for that. You don't support the troops, nor do you care about this country. - altgeeky1, on 10/10/2008, -8/+14Dugg, BECAUSE it is Huff. :-p
- rabidsquirrelOG, on 10/10/2008, -2/+8This Vet isn't voting for McShame. Most people can spot hypocritical ego maniacs when they see 'em. I'm no different. I have high hopes that Obama could be the JFK of our time. That is tempered with the fact that he has voted for some unconstitutional legislation in the past (FISA, Bailout, etc...). I'm optimistic, but realistic at the same time. I agree with axle00 that no candidate will save us from ourselves. That is not the duty of government. It is personal responsibility. Something that most Americans have sorely lacked for the last twenty some odd years or more...
Semper Fi, - SifuMoKung, on 10/10/2008, -0/+6Really. I'm Republican and I won't be voting for McCain. My father, a twenty one year veteran of the military vowed he would not vote for McCain. He is a lifelong Republican. The only thing that smells here is your rancid arrogance.
- br0ck, on 10/10/2008, -3/+9No it wouldn't.
"The report tracked donations of $200 or more. It found that 859 members of the military donated a total of $335,536 to Obama. McCain received $280,513 from 558 military donors. Among soldiers serving overseas at the time of their donations, 134 gave a total of $60,642 to Obama while 26 gave a total of $10,665 to McCain. That was less than the amount received by Republican Ron Paul, who collected $45,512 from 99 soldiers serving abroad, the report said."
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080814/military_donations. ... - xtmno3, on 10/10/2008, -0/+6Dennis Kucinich got an A rating, for anyone who cares.
- cmootoo, on 10/10/2008, -0/+6What are you trying to say here? They wouldn't have joined or they wouldn't have been accepted?
Whats your alternative when the GOP misleads the country into backing an unjust war that stretches our military? We already have guys being stop lossed and coming back screwed up and you're here questioning the recruits in our volunteer military? - jackieblu, on 10/10/2008, -2/+8It's pretty obvious why military families are "quietly closing ranks around Obama"! Fact is the majority of Iraqi Vets are voting for Obama!
- cmootoo, on 10/10/2008, -1/+7I'm a vet and I'll criticize it. HonestPhil is incorrect. He brought down 3 planes, 2 while in the military not counting the one he was driving when he got shot down.
Anyone losing one plane would be grounded for a bit, with 2 you should lose your wings. His family name kept him in the air and destroying taxpayer property.
Pilot error was the cause of at least one crash if not both.
McCain's lack of integrity is another story but true nonetheless. Just look at the levels he stoops to just so he can get the stupid vote from clowns like frogle - fuzzynyanko, on 10/10/2008, -0/+6Actually, Obama is asking for as little as $5
- PhilLesh69, on 10/10/2008, -2/+8Why wouldn't they?
How many families of soldiers who have served 4, 5 or even 6 tours in Iraq really want to vote for an angry old man who promises to stay in Iraq for 100 years? - Diggaholics, on 10/10/2008, -3/+9The reason why it is not ***** is because it is well-known opinion that the Military is a strong-republican ally. The Military Times Poll, which I read today in the Marine Times, featured 4000 some readers that reinforced that idea. If this is true, then it is true of the white respondents as well to support John McCain simply because he is white.
- Diggaholics, on 10/10/2008, -1/+6Reminds me of the John McCain "my friends" drinking game.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2008, -0/+5Oh, if we got 12 more years of Republican rule, I'd blame ignorance of the highest caliber, you can count on that.
