- jameszol, on 02/20/2008, -5/+119"Fiscal efficiency? What is that?" - US Government
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -13/+88do we really need to be reminded again that we are getting ***** by the government?
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -5/+71In other startling news: scientists have discovered that fish swim. Details at 11.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -7/+61Whoa! Wait a second. You're telling me that the government that steals my money at the point of a gun barrel is wasting it! What the hell?
I would think that as they steal my money, they use it for the greater good, or the children or something else that makes more sense than me having access to the money I work for.
I guess the fact that there is not one thing you own or one thing you consume that isn't either taxed or regulated would mean that everything is good! Isn't that what freedom is all about? Losing >50% of your income but sitting back and seeing all the good that is done with it?
Oh *****, next you're going to tell me that we aren't serfs? You aren't freemen, you are serfs. Look it up and realize what you are. - inactive, on 02/20/2008, -28/+80What Bill O'lielly will NEVER tell you
America builds more prisons than schools
America builds more prisons than ANY OTHER COUNTRY per capita.
America imprisons more of their citizens for non violent crimes than ANY OTHER COUNTRY per capita.
America manufactures and exports more weapons than ANY OTHER COUNTRY. Weapons are America's number one export

Wilkommen to Amerika, Fools! - jeimus, on 02/20/2008, -4/+43This should have been submitted under common sense
- jeffiek, on 02/20/2008, -2/+39fta:"That's roughly equal to the amount collected annually by the Internal Revenue Service in personal income taxes."
Yet anyone suggesting the personal income tax can be eliminated is labeled as crazy.
Go figure. - HankinTrees, on 02/20/2008, -7/+35Ron Paul '08? Our country wasn't intended to have a large central government for this reason.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -9/+35I think that your estimates for improving the world are off by a factor of 100 or so...and that assumes that every country and government given those funds will use them wisely and honestly.
Both of these mistakes are bane of liberalism...but they make you feel good, so... - inactive, on 02/20/2008, -6/+31Yes you do. I wish I could personnally follow each and every single American for a day, just yelling information at them, until they get angry enough to do something about it.
- ike6116, on 02/20/2008, -0/+24"You've been had" assumes that I believed that the Government wasn't stealing from me.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -3/+26It doesn't matter what wing you're on.......Honesty and efficiency has never been a part of government. It's a grouping of lies and liars who extort money and create wasteful bureaucracies
- hollyberrry, on 02/20/2008, -5/+27Reader's Digest?!? Reader's ***** digest?!? I have to get this news here? Why can't journalists balls up and tell me how it really is. I am so sick of this b.s. I am so sick of b.s that passes for news that isn't, while a story about a $1M per year satellite that sits in a closet gets waterboarded. To hell with tabloid garbage. Granted it didn't have to be spread over 5 pages and what not, but still.
i.e. "example: Since September 11, 2001, Congress has spent more than $4 billion to upgrade the Coast Guard's fleet. Today the service has fewer ships than it did before that money was spent."
"Or consider the FBI's infamous Trilogy computer upgrade: Its final stage was scrapped after a $170 million investment."
"Or the almost $1 billion the Federal Emergency Management Agency has wasted on unusable housing. The list goes on. "
"The federal Food Stamp Program gets ripped off too. Studies have shown that almost 5 percent, or more than $1 billion, of the payments made to people in the $30 billion program are in excess of what they should receive."
"So how do we make it happen? Demand it of our elected officials. If they fail to listen, then we turn them out of office. With its approval rating hovering around 11 percent in some polls, Congress might just start paying attention."
--- yeah, easier said then done. - AriaStar, on 02/20/2008, -3/+25This just in: The average American KNOWS we're all taking it up the ass.
- rlh1, on 02/20/2008, -5/+26America builds more prisons then schools?
That's strange. I my city there is one prison, a couple of jails and about 200 schools.
I think your statement is a bit off. - Jesterman81, on 02/20/2008, -1/+22Solution: Less Government, More private enterprise...scream all you want about corps, but they do a hell of a lot better job speading money then the gov. Also less government=more donatable money to charities. I know I would give more to St Judes then I do now if the gov didn't take 40% to 50% of my money. Charities also spend money wiser then govs. They need to conserver a heck of alot better then govs because the supply is limited...Taxes can be raised which have seen in the last 50-100 years.
My two cents anyway. - GhostyBoy, on 02/20/2008, -15/+36I have been thinking about this for a while now. I am a Canadian, and I pay my taxes. The government licks ass, but as it provides all people with health care, and we spend very little on needless wars (still shocked that we were swindled into Afghanistan), I feel okay about the chunk of my check that goes to the government.
But if I lived in the U.S., and the government was so blatantly ignoring the voice of the people, and the wars were so unnecessarily, and we were wasting billions and going into debt and killing people while the rich get richer, and the IRS acts like the ***** mafia....I would honestly have to say ***** this, I will not pay.
If enough people stop paying their taxes then the government is powerless. I really wouldn't even mention it, but things are so ***** up over there and there needs to be some kind of meaningfull rebellion.
I would stop payin - morningmatters, on 02/20/2008, -2/+22Summary of the article on how did the government waste so much of our money:
1. People and corporations cheat on their taxes through loopholes and the government's doesn't do anything about it
2. Medicare and Medicaid
3. Military spending on non-essential items
4. Farm subsidies
5. Government makes poor investment decisions
6. Fraud
7. Pork
8. Welfare
9. Repeat of #5
10. Interests on the national debt
IMO the best way to improve most of these bullet points is to have more strict monitoring of our lobbying system so that special interests do not get the priority when it comes to spending decisions. Most people agree to pay some taxes, but differs on how the tax dollars should be spent. - coyote1284, on 02/20/2008, -1/+20We don't use that "socialist" word anymore, bad connotations. The proper term in "progressive", makes people feel good.
- jesuswuzanalien, on 02/20/2008, -7/+26"The power to steal money efficiently" -GWB
- tman84, on 02/20/2008, -0/+19Good point. It's also more smug and self serving to call yourself a "progressive". I really don't know how socialists think Universal Healthcare can work. Dept Of Education, Welfare, Social Sercurity, Dept of Homeland Security, IRS, FDA, DMV, No Child Left Behind. You name it, if the Government sponsored it, then you're in for failure.
- oldhick, on 02/20/2008, -2/+21We all know government is screwed. You're not the only one who's figured that out. Most all Americans know this as well. They tune it out because there is no alternative! Thats why the race is between Obama, Hillary, and McCain. Three people guaranteed not to change a damn thing.
Its not that I disagree with your sentiment, its that you're preaching to the choir and its annoying. There is no one to vote for. There will be no change. We're all angry enough to do something, but there is nothing left to be done.
I'm tired of the "wake up America" crap. We're not sleeping, we just have run out of ideas. So unless you have them, pipe down. - tman84, on 02/20/2008, -1/+19People want more socialist programs from their government to waste money on. Name 1 government run social service that works, and I'll name you 20 that don't.
- Dewhead, on 02/20/2008, -2/+20I am disgusted with the Republicans for their insane spending, but the democrats are so much worse. Obama was plain scary in his speech last night. He is just giddy with what he is going to do when he's in charge of the cookie jar . He will destroy our economy. All of his glaxed over disciples are clueless and so happy that someone is going to "give" them stuff. Yea! Free Healthcare, Yea! free college, Yea! Happy days are here again. American have no one to blame but our selves. We have allowed our government to get too powerful and too big and it blows my mind that so many are willing to give our corrupt government even MORE control by putting them in charge of healthcare, banking, and more. Our current problems are a direct result of too much government and to think that more government will fix it is just insane.
The way too take our government back is to start on the local level and then move to state. - MindStalker, on 02/20/2008, -0/+18breath.. But yea guess your right, all he post is links to scragged, but he seems to always keep them relevant to the post at hand. Hey we all have our bag, I post ron paul *****, this guy post scragged *****. :)
- FTLJohnson, on 02/20/2008, -1/+18The problem is not with the "wake up america" message. The problem is with with morons screaming "wake up america" into the internet. The internet isn't the ***** problem. The internet seems to get it, which is why, on the Internet, you couldn't put any kind of Ron Paul poll anywhere without him winning it. The problem is the luddites. The problem is that freedom loving libertarians seem to, on average, be the cave dwelling Morlocks, and don't often come out to speak with the Eloi, and truly explain to them the benefits of Liberty. Another problem is that being a Liberty lover has now been linked with being a conspiracy theorist thanks to certain radio broadcasters.
- Thumper13, on 02/20/2008, -6/+23This is news from what, 1776?
The government always wastes our money, all governments do.
Thanks for the news flash. - exomni, on 02/20/2008, -1/+18If they made a spambot that can construct rational arguments and provide related links to support his rational arguments, I'm digging him up- and while I'm at it, I'll bury you.
- delmar14, on 02/20/2008, -3/+19Taxes are the tribute you owe to your nation's largest mafia (i.e. your government).
Honestly, the only difference i see is that the mafia is profit-driven, and is thus; vastly more efficient. - Scheissen, on 02/20/2008, -4/+20But more government taxes and regulation make everything evil into good.
- jmpeagle, on 02/20/2008, -4/+19you make it sound like we've been "scammed"....how many people WANT to pay taxes. Very very few. The only reason we do is because failure to do so could potentially land you in jail. It's not like they are selling us something. Taxes are collected through force.
- MaynardJK, on 02/20/2008, -1/+16Bush and Cheney aren't conservatives. They are Neocons. Actual conservatives want a small government and no debt.
- GRANDPAMUNSTER, on 06/11/2009, -0/+15Lets stop blaming whatever political party you oppose, that keeps us distracted from realizing we are being screwed by both parties.
- JettaMan, on 02/20/2008, -5/+19I hate to be a broken record, but Ron Paul was/is the only candidate that would have reversed the terrible direction we are going in.
- egroeggnik, on 02/20/2008, -4/+17"The power to steal money efficiently" -Every US politician
FTFY - GuacamoleSan, on 02/20/2008, -4/+17Let's see...I view the money wasted on the iraq war as far worse because of the fact that it's war profiteering....making money from spilled blood, one of the worst evils in this world. 50 billion dollars was given to private contractors, BILLIONS of which are unaccounted for. These private contractors are therefore STEALING billions of dollars from our government, which if i'm correct is treason / waging war against the united states, and could be punishable by death.

IRS: We'll take that. - z28com, on 02/20/2008, -7/+19And the people to blame for this are the same people voting for McCain, Huckabee, Obama, Hillary, etc. This is why Ron Paul is a COMMON SENSE guy. He's the one who addresses stupid ***** like this, yet the entire population is SHEEP who keeps voting for the scumbags who will keep wasting our tax dollars. To anyone who refuses to vote for Ron Paul - IT IS YOUR FAULT this money is wasted. It's you same people who DO NOT want LIMITED GOV'T. Ron Paul is all about LIMITED GOV'T. I'm sorry that this is not want you want to hear, but that's the way it is. If Ron Paul got all of the free media coverage that Obama is getting, then HE is the one who would be ahead of the races.
- slickriven, on 02/20/2008, -0/+12McCain is also a complete dumbass and is NOT a conservative Republican, he's a flaming liberal with a red tie. Voting for McCain is like voting for Dubba for a 3rd term... which is insane... so go support McCain but just don't bitch when absolutely none of what this article complains about changes, because it WON'T.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -0/+11Neither "wing" has a monopoly on screwing things up.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -3/+14Details Details Details. Please don't let them get in the way of a liberal copy & paste rant.
- greenblob, on 02/20/2008, -3/+14Developing story: The average American doesn't give a *****.
- dondara, on 02/20/2008, -0/+11So true. Fraud and waste are the only real bi-partisan effort in our government.
- dondara, on 02/20/2008, -0/+10No idea what you mean but I dugg ya anyway for the way you said it.
- BESTenemy, on 02/20/2008, -0/+10The people deserve whomever they elect. This country is not ready for personal responsibility. People trust their government, regardless of how it treats them. They've seen no alternative, so they think it's as good as it can get. Let them have another round of the old same. They like hearing of tax cuts parallel to expansion of social programs. Everyone knows it's impossible, but hey! The guy says we can do it. If we can't, it's his fold, and not ours for electing him to be the representative of our personal lack of responsibility.
- andergriff, on 02/20/2008, -2/+12The government is a parasite. It does NOT have the best interests of taxpayers at heart. So why do we continue to vote for the same Democrat and Republican hacks year in and year out?
- StormCommander, on 02/20/2008, -2/+11Barack Obama has one of the worst economy plans ever... and John McCain is a war monger.
- joshhan, on 02/20/2008, -0/+9YES! YES! Reader's Digest for President 2008!!!
- troy1of2, on 02/20/2008, -0/+9I'm sure he is figuring in all of the little taxes you pay every day like sales taxes, tax on gasoline, licenses, permits, property taxes, etc. etc.
