- shadash, on 12/05/2007, -4/+33Television Media still doesn't understand the power of the internet. (Or maybe they don't want to)
There is going to be a serious upset come primary time. - Minarchian, on 12/05/2007, -8/+34Buchanan talking about the Primaries like it's some kind of football game.
It's not a game and the people who support Ron Paul know this fact. They will be out in numbers that are going to shock the hell out of these people.
And who knows. Once Paul starts his successes Buchanan just might jump in with support. - lOvOl, on 12/05/2007, -7/+29Buchanan likes Ron Paul and probably sort of envies him because he wishes he had the kind of grassroots support back when he ran for president against George HW Bush in 1992 as a protest candidate on essentially the same platform as Ron Paul. The sad reality is, just like the MSM has continually tried to marginalize Ron Paul by suggesting he is racist, xenophobic, and a kook, the same was done to Pat Buchanan just because of his political positions.
Also, Buchanan was being honest about what he felt about Ron Paul's prospects, but then again not long ago Newt Gingrich was essentially crowning Hillary as President, yet now he has a different opinion on her chances to win the White House.
The unfortunate thing for Republicans is that as polarizing as Hillary may be, I don't think Giuliani or Romney are electable. I think Romney is very slick and would probably make at least a decent president, but the Mormon factor is a real problem for him just as being black is a real problem for Barack Obama. Too many people on the right and the left have prejudicial opinions regarding matters of faith and race to ever consider voting for someone who represents a religious or racial minority.
That leaves Huckabee and Ron Paul as viable candidates against Hillary with Huckabee having the best chance. Huckabee seems like a great guy and very likeable from my perspective, but unfortunately I feel he will be another big-government "compassionate conservative" like George Bush who instead of making the tough financial choices, will continue to spend the future wealth of this country through IOU's as readily as any Kennedy would. That leaves Ron Paul by default.
As far as the Democrats go, their best bet I think would be an Edwards and Richardson ticket. Why not Obama? Well because sadly most black democrats are going to vote democratic no matter what, yet many white independents may feel reluctant to vote for Obama because of his skin color even though ethnically he is as white as he is black. - Spectre74, on 12/05/2007, -6/+26Been watching TV so long it almost looks fake when good stuff shows up like that.
- GoKings, on 12/05/2007, -4/+20Wow... That was the first coverage video of Ron Paul that actually seemed honest.
- betterth, on 12/05/2007, -2/+15I think you just failed at the internets. Cancel your subscription and throw your computer away now, kthx.
- eryximachus, on 12/05/2007, -1/+13Pat has a lot of experience in Republican politics. He is the one Republican who publically warned against the rise of the Neo Cons - Watch his speech from the 1992 Republican Convention. He was never a successful candidate himself, but his understanding of the political system is very good. He wasn't able to successfully warn people about how the Republican Party would change, but in the end he was right. I wouldn't dismiss what he says outright.
- Starflyer59, on 12/05/2007, -2/+13You are so funny and thought provoking! I had to control myself, so I would not "loose" it at work.
- slapded, on 12/05/2007, -5/+16he won the va straw poll. he PWNED
- Heilige, on 12/05/2007, -3/+13Stop spreading FUD, he does in fact believe in the seperation of church and state but not by government force. i.e. The government can NOT create laws FOR or AGAINST any establishment of religion PERIOD! Thats the seperation
- cyroxos, on 12/05/2007, -1/+10The word is slowly getting out, I think this may be an interesting election.
- chris9902, on 12/05/2007, -2/+10$11million is real. not some PR *****. That's real money from real people.
- BrapAllgood, on 12/05/2007, -1/+9Win or 'lose', there's sure a lot of people talking about important issues now and talk leads to change.
One can't hide from such light as this. :) - McHoffa, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6The one reason I believe Ron Paul actually does have a chance is that his supporters actually go out and support him, without being told to. They say that usually only 5% of voters will vote in primaries. But add in the fact that Ron Paul has a supposed 5% share of the total republican votes, and 90% of them go out and vote (just like they have voluntarily gone out to rally in support of him, unlike other candidates), then that means you've got an additional 4.5% of the total voters in the primary being ron paul votes and the original 5% average turnout going to the other candidates, split pretty evenly between giuliani, romney and huckabee. The math isn't exact there, but you get my point.
- MWeather, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6Ross Perot financed himself. Had he raised millions from donations averaging under $200 before the primaries, that would show massive grassroots support.
- Heilige, on 12/05/2007, -0/+6Check the Ronald Reagan history before he was elected and see if the "polls" you speak of are accurate in determining who will be president.
- unloud, on 12/05/2007, -0/+5I really don't understand why people constantly feel the need to append "which, is unlikely" to the end of phrases like "Is elected".....they don't do that for Guilliani, Romney, or Huckabee and it's obvious that not all three of them can be in the main election. It is simply seems to be useless bias oozing through the media's upper layer.
- Pritchard, on 12/05/2007, -0/+5Snakes on a plane was a joke even to the internet. Who could say that they were interested in it, really? It was fun for the internet, because the social network loves things that make good jokes. On the other hand, 300 was amazingly cool and gained popularity both on the net AND in real life.
I don't like to compare Ron Paul to either of those. The internet is just this vast, wide open social network that allows me to communicate with fellow supporters. It's an enhancer to our already existing passion for this man and our faith in him. - delelles, on 12/05/2007, -0/+5Let's not forget Ron Paul get's his money mostly from the average citizen, not special interest groups.
- Rustymetal, on 12/05/2007, -0/+5But after all the debates, there is no one chanting rudy or huckabee. Ron Paul on the other had always seems to have a full rally while other canidates talk to the news because they have no supporters around. I thought they were front runners? where is the support from the people for them?
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+5Yeah but Blitzer can't help brining up Paul running as a Libertarian as a negative every time he talks about him. Still, at least he's giving him some attention.
- kingp, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4Is that some sort of double negative. Do they cancel each other out? Are you really saying that he's a straight heterosexual?
- dcormier, on 12/05/2007, -0/+4You can't say that he "has only 6% of the vote" until we, the people, have actually voted. That's kind of just how it works. Small polls by whoever don't mean a whole lot.
- Heilige, on 12/05/2007, -1/+5He is right in one thing, you are spreading lies and misinformation, sorry but it's true.
- MWeather, on 12/05/2007, -2/+6Diggers bury it because the bury system enables a small number of buries to counteract a large number of Diggs.
- Heilige, on 12/05/2007, -1/+4No, he is right on target and entirely correct! Why don't you read the constitution and the writings of all the founding fathers once in a while? You will then see that the "separation" is only in relation to the fact that the government/state can NOT be for or against any religion in any form, shape, or fashion whatsoever. The "wall" of separation is basically a one-way wall, GOVERNMENT CAN NOT ADVOCATE OR OBJURGATE religion, but religion can force government through it's people which is the morals that the founders said are required for a successfully and free society. That is the way our country started and it is the way it has been until the early 1900s when socialists and corporations got into power.
- dictum, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3I just like how each time Ron Paul moves up in polling, the number of msm "front runners" decreases....
- Heilige, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3It sounds like you are confused about the matters at hand, the role of government, and the purpose behind Ron Paul's stances on these issues. Study up on what it means to be a constitutional republic and what the USA Constitution actually says, after all it is the ultimate law of the land.
- Heilige, on 12/05/2007, -1/+4The corporate media usually is a self fulfilling prophecy, whoever they push is what most people think about. Unfortunately. But like I said, consider what I said and also add the power of the Internet in this day and age.
- mediaspree, on 12/05/2007, -1/+4You're right, a couple hundred tacos or chinese imports would have been better... Goodbye, America.
- MWeather, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3You obviously never read Utopia.
- delelles, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3Am I going crazy or did this story just get pulled off the "Popular" section? I thought once it's gone "Popular" it can't be un-done?
- diggit83, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3The wealthy neocons have too much to lose if Paul is elected. He will also do away with all of the ***** bureaucratic jobs that employ all of their friends and family....thats right your tax dollars goto pay their friends and family for doing jack *****. Im POSITIVE they pay some of these reporters/anchors/tv personalties to say things like "You know your not gonna win right?" Like the question on the debat and its really really getting old.
- Pritchard, on 12/05/2007, -0/+3The power - The power of this communication device. As I said to reed, the internet's merely an enhancer to my ability to communicate and plan with other supporters. The passion for Ron Paul and his beliefs already exist without it. The internet is being harnessed - There is NO better communication or organization device in existence to date. You can't use the internet at this level if you don't have supporters with real faith in ya.
I think Ron Paul ought to start spending more of this money we've raised though. We're way too close to the primaries - I'm getting scared. - KenSPT, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3Four words, Snakes On A Plane ...
- delelles, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Pat Buchanan IS a Ron Paul fan. One only needs to visit his official website and find a whole section dedicated to Ron Paul news, the only candidate featured with his or her own section: http://buchanan.org/blog/?cat=25
- unloud, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2I've buried many Ron Paul things and I'm a supporter simply because I find his message so important that it not be watered down with the appearance of a mob of brainwashed diggers. It is more important that his stances on issues are made obvious.
- reed311, on 12/05/2007, -8/+10Right. Remember before Snakes on a Plane came out and the media was buzzing about how this would be the first time that an Internet craze turned into real world popularity? It didn't happen.
They understand the relative popularity of the Internet, it's the users on Digg who overstate it's importance. - silveravnt, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3Yeah those "constitution" ideas are ridiculous. "Personal Responsibility" is stupid. The government needs to be big enough to wipe Pedwidgets ass when he *****. I like to give them all my tax dollars because they are so responsible with them. I could never manage my life like the Government does.
- Heilige, on 12/05/2007, -2/+4Consider these facts: There are hundreds of thousands if not millions who passionately support Ron Paul, he always wins the majority of polls, he gets more donations from military personnel than any other GOP candidate and that he is also bringing in more money than any other GOP candidate. His odds of winning the GOP nomination and becoming president are good if not excellent regardless of who the TELEVISION and CORPORATE MEDIA says the front runners are.
- silveravnt, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2You make a very strong argument. I'm still on the fence about Paul but now that I know for a fact that he is a gay homosexual. That changes everything. You should go into Public Relations.
- undergrace, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2It was buried... I had to refresh the Front Page because "my session has expired" (every 5 minutes!) and I noticed it was gone... I searched for Ron Paul and had to checkbox "Include buried stories" to get this story to come up. People are ridiculous - some Diggers missed the show and would like to see the video, but the bury brigade just buries blindly out of spite.
- Heilige, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3lol do some more research
- Nanobe, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win. - Mohandas Gandhi
- Heilige, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2And what HE meant was that a whole lot MORE people will be VOTING than those who took part in those "polls".
- votewritein, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Why is this "Made Popular" story no longer on the "Popular" page? Can you now bury stories that have already been made popular?
- dcormier, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2I've never been polled by anyone regarding who I am going to vote for, so how can you (or anyone else) say that "6% of the population of the United States has stated their intention to vote for him"? You don't actually know who I'm going to vote for.
- dictum, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2And I think that primary polling is done with a few hundred, maybe a thousand at most previous republican voters. I think were going to see the effect of people like myself, who never voted in a primary, coming out and giving Ron support..
- getoffmybridge, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1You call Ron Paul a fudgepacker and your name is Seinfeld King? Lmao, pkb you douchey prick. Hey, look at me, my name celebrates a dumpster packed with 30 minutes of shallow mindless garbage! No soup for you lololol.
Off yourself. - diggit83, on 12/05/2007, -1/+2Pat Buchanan seemed to be planted there to discredit Ron Paul while pretending to be a supporter....If he were a true supporter he would have endorsed him...
