- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -29/+283I’ll tell ya something…
If America isn’t smart enough to turn away from what the small minded nasty republican party is trying to sell us, with the frail and erratic McCain and his sweet hipped, completely unvested, political bimbo Palin, under the guise of racial fear and patriotic smoke.
And instead choose with pride and gusto the wonderful communicator, the well trained and serious minded Obama who has shown a political skill that comes once a century (and that only if we are very, very lucky) with his fair and honest VP choice Joe.
Then maybe we don’t deserve any damn blessings and to hell with us anyway. We will ultimately get what we deserve.
When I Look at and hear the crowds being drawn to the McCain/Palin ticket it chills me to my core. I began to see it at the conventions. The multi colored face of the democratic party and the starkly white Republican.
Each and every rally gets worse and worse. Look at the faces surrounding McCain. Watch them change as they go from Palin to McCain. You can see it plain and it isn’t very pretty America. It is downright hideous. I am so ashamed for the world to see us like this, so terribly ashamed.
It is the words and the pictures coming from the Republicans that is making me lose faith in us. It is the all lies that is making me wonder if we can get through this. It isn’t fear of “it“. It is fear of “them“, and what they, McCain and Palin, seem willing to do to us to get what they want. It is loathing at how they are willing to get it and that they can draw such crowds willing to give it to them.
I do want hope. I want a better and reasoned America. But most of all I don’t want the lies and I most certainly do not want to live with the hate. - mostlysunny1, on 10/10/2008, -20/+177This is about the only optimistic thing I've read today. It's good to hear that blue-collar voters are seeing the light, finally. Especially given the abhorrent smear tactics being used by McCain-Palin. They should be ashamed.
- liberD, on 10/10/2008, -11/+111"The Associated Press with Yahoo News and Stanford University found that whites without a college education were much more likely to hold negative views of blacks than those with a college education."
Does "education" help people realize that we are all equal regardless of race? - morningmatters, on 10/10/2008, -10/+75It's sad that it would take a severe stock market crash to make most Americans realize that greed at the top is not really that good for the middle class. Is it people in general, or just Americans who won't react less something personal happens to them, like seeing their retirement accounts wiped out.
We are just fortunate that Bush failed in privatizing Social Security. Had this happened you would see thousands of grandmothers begging on the streets today. - inactive, on 10/10/2008, -5/+66My father, a 45-year-old racist blue-collar worker, is finally seeing the light. I've never felt so proud to be his son.
- aparatoc, on 10/10/2008, -6/+62...my fellow prisoners...
- Insightful, on 10/10/2008, -3/+49Seriously, after yelling out things like "Keeeel the terrorist treasonous socialist marxist communist Muslim neeeeegro! USA! USA! USA!" and feel good for a few minutes, they will have to go home someday and face that mortgage bill, car payment, 401k statement, food bill, and realize, hopefully, that McCain is only offering them hate and no substance.
- aliengoods, on 10/10/2008, -0/+41When it comes down to it, economic disasters don't discriminate. You're either at the top making more money or you're *****, regardless of race.
- wynja, on 10/10/2008, -10/+50I'm a working class white voter that was a fan of McCain up until 2006 when he sold out and started licking the Bush Administrations ass. McCain will go down in flames and I'll laugh the whole time crying, "The Maverick Burns so Sickly Sweet!!!"
- Leviathan433, on 10/10/2008, -7/+43You have to consider the source though - Huffington post. I think the most damning criticism on McCain has been from the National Review. You know it is bad when THE conservative periodical is slamming the republican presidential candidate.

- jamiekavan, on 10/10/2008, -4/+37it has a lot to do with socioeconomics (poor whites in the south were always strong supporters of slavery, though they benefited least), but also, yes, with education... this is why homeschooling (where kids can be taught their parents prejudices) and school choice tax credits (where kids can once again be segregated by race/ religion/ socioeconomics) rips apart the fabric of our society, dumbs us down, and threatens our geo-political position.
- bnut, on 10/10/2008, -1/+34I was discussing politics with one of my friends the other day and he was giving me reasons why he is voting for McCain. One thing that he said that struck me is that he likes him so much because he's an average guy. Can someone please explain to me why do people want average "joe six-packs" to have the two highest political seats in our great country? You would think people should want an intelligent human being that is anything but average in a position to make decisions that affect the whole world.
- harmlessdrudge, on 10/10/2008, -0/+30The world is watching. Posts like this are encouraging.
I am an ordinary European with my entire life savings in the US stock market (I'm in my 50's, it's not an emergency yet). I have lived in America and admire it at its best a great deal. What we see in the McCain Palin campaign is utterly repugnant and I can GUARANTEE you that I'd disinvest in heartbeat if he (and Palin) were elected. I may not have an electoral vote but I do have a financial vote.
McCain is clearly not suited for the job. We'd have a war with Iran soon and the currency would collapse entirely. If I have to take a bath I'll take it sooner rather than later.
As for Palin. The British have a word: numpty. In her case: NUMPTY.
I'm optimistic however. I don't think McCain is going to come anywhere remotely close to being elected. His choice now is to lose graciously or do real damage to his country by complicity in the whipping up of hatred. This message is ricocheting around the blogosphere but it seems he hasn't got it yet. I hope for America's sake he comes to his senses. - diggproof, on 10/10/2008, -4/+33Biden explaining to people at the debate how McCain's healthcare plan "works" was the last straw for working class voters. I mean, saying you're going to drop 20 million people to make it work is not going to win over anybody. It's a gamble no voter wants to take, whether or not they'll fall into that group of unlucky people.
- bjs3171, on 10/10/2008, -1/+29no. it's more simple than that. Racist people are dumb, open-minded people are smart. End of story.
- xGeneric, on 10/10/2008, -2/+30Yeah, to quote someone I read in another article about this subject... "Someone who's drowning doesn't care about the color of the man throwing him a life preserver." (Prolly not the exact quote, but you get the idea).
If people see Obama/Democrats as more capable of fixing the Economy, and they're struggling to pay the bills, they're voting Democratic. - Isohunt, on 10/10/2008, -3/+29I'm a union brick mason in michigan and its pretty unanimous that we all want Obama in for president.
- Griminald, on 10/10/2008, -9/+34This just in: conservative supporters stay away from the Huffington Post
- saranac7, on 10/10/2008, -3/+28YOU ARE BOTH A ROCK STAR AND MY NEW BFF!!!!!
Amen! - hasslinthehoff, on 10/10/2008, -2/+26I've always liked McCain, but there's no way I can perpetuate the failure of the Republican doctrine and the fact that his running mate could possibly be President if something happened, and is in no way qualified to do so.
- PGPirate, on 10/10/2008, -2/+25Could you please tell me a real reason not to vote for Obama?
dumbass - jimmyp3016, on 10/10/2008, -4/+27Judging from the "About" section of your profile...
"I am a Christian first and foremost. I am a conservative who lives in the south and I am married to a gun-toting hunter! If you are a liberal, baby-killer, athiest, homosexual, or all-around ignorant person, we probably will not have anything in common."
You are exactly the type of person at these "angry mob" McPalin rally's. - inactive, on 10/10/2008, -11/+34Union members and working class Americans along with SMALL business owners would be voting against their own interests if they were to vote for McCain. Obama will continue to get more and more support from this "group". Obama '08! Make it happen Nov.4th!
- redcolumbine, on 10/10/2008, -8/+30Hear AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Richard Trumka at the steelworkers' convention address the last hurdle: racism. "Are you out of your ever-lovin' mind???"

- drlha, on 10/10/2008, -1/+23Kerry was a horse faced bore that allowed an unfounded smear campaign against him to go unanswered, and it lost him the election (after 4 years of Bush, not election with him in it should have ended anywhere near 50/50). Obama on the other hand is engaging and willing to stand up and answer the smears and attacks. That's the difference.
- sigg14, on 10/10/2008, -5/+25I am a blue collar worker and I can tell you that the majority of the working men that I speak with will not vote for Obama. some of them will not vote at all as they mostly hate Mcain also, but alot of them have said that they were voting for Mcain just to vote against Obama. I think racism has a lot to do with this unfortunately. I am not talking about working class people from the south either here, I work in NJ and NY which are generally pretty liberal. I do not support Obama, or Mcain for that matter but I find it sad the ignorance I find in our working class about our political system and government. There are plenty of good reasons not to support Obama but most of these guys just say something like "I ain't voting for no *****". believe what you want but these biased media sources do not deliver a true account of anything.
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -5/+25No, he knows better than to waste his vote on something like that.
- algaeturd, on 10/10/2008, -11/+30About time....good to have you on the right side of the working class.
- rpayne656, on 10/10/2008, -1/+20Your post history is absurdly racist.
- kezia1, on 10/10/2008, -9/+28To be honest, I'm afraid what could happen if either got elected. If Obama wins, there could be a possible assassination from all the racists and idiots who refuse to see the light. If McCain wins, there could be a revolt against the presidency, as the U.S. does not need 4 more years of Bush. It's pretty scary.
- aliengoods, on 10/10/2008, -5/+23Yes, perhaps if we all wish hard enough this won't be a 2 party system. /sarcasm
- mk3k, on 10/10/2008, -4/+22@key I hate that reasoning.
Exactly how many years does it have to be before Clinton is off the hook?
Two recessions with the Bushes! That speaks to me. - fefu, on 10/10/2008, -0/+18What I want to know is, why do people think that a guy who has 13 houses is "average"?
- Leviathan433, on 10/10/2008, -3/+20Yeah, they called FDR a socialist too.
- bpoteat, on 10/10/2008, -4/+21Yes, I would argue that homeschooled children do not get as good an education as those that go to traditional community schools. Sure, they may learn the subjects slightly better (and that is a big MAY considering teachers at schools specialize in teaching particular skills and homeschool 'teachers' do not), but they do not get as well rounded an education and the benefits of community socialization. Learning how to live with others in today's society is important. Homeschool parents basically want to do the opposite - keep their children from being a part of society.
- Shaggy6ster, on 10/10/2008, -2/+19Neiter can I.
Vote Obama/Biden 2008 - davidrools, on 10/10/2008, -1/+17Well said. If McCain wins I will probably spend some time outside the US. I'm thinking of going to Denmark, France, or Canada. I hope it doesn't come down to that.
- inactive, on 10/10/2008, -9/+254mytroops--buried. Don't hide behind your member name and claim that we're against the troops when we bury you.
- Hetman, on 10/10/2008, -1/+16Correlation does not equal causation. It might be a factor of isolation. Most colleges seem to have a diverse group of individuals. Especially larger universities. And with out that perspective maybe some of those people would still be racists. But who knows, it does not seem like a very challanging concept to realize all people should be treated equally.
- FlaG8r, on 10/10/2008, -1/+16John McCain can't wait to take another crack at privatizing Social Security just as soon as he's done cutting Medicare.
- KowGawd, on 10/10/2008, -0/+14You forgot about McCain finally turning to dust....or dying.
- rhythm7a, on 10/10/2008, -0/+14I see, another racist for McCain. Thank you for your enlightened input. Enjoy your black president.
Next. - maus56, on 10/10/2008, -0/+14Good point. As an Independent that supports Obama, I take the Huffington post with a bag of salt. On the other hand, Fox News sucks donkey balls.
- FlaG8r, on 10/10/2008, -4/+18I suspect it also has something to do with wanting someone to blame for their self-caused problems. They didn't succeed in life, so it must be the fault of blacks or Mexicans or someone.
- sotloo, on 10/10/2008, -0/+13Republicans in a nutshell…
1. Improve the Economy = Keep taxes low on corporations and the wealthy so that they will out of the infinite goodness of their hearts “create jobs” (trust us they will not pocket the savings they want to spend it on labor costs) "Cut wasteful spending and pork" especially cut social programs of anykind. (Meaning anything that helps people that are really old, really poor or really young because after all the old are useless, the poor are poor because of laziness and the really young are useless)
2. Government restructuring = Reduce the size of government. (That’s it)
3. Social issues = Overturn Roe vs. Wade, Create laws to force a woman to carry a child to term that is a product of sexual assault or incest. (Don’t you republicans have mothers, sisters, wives or girlfriends WTF are u thinking?)
4. Energy policy = Drill baby drill with an "all of the above" approach (whatever the hell that means)
5. Healthcare = Get people to take personal responsibility here…here's $5000 go for it family of four go get that $12,000 health care plan. (Good Luck)
6. Let me own a 50cal sniper rifle it's my "right". (When a $350 Mossberg does the job for home defense so WTF)
7. Foreign Policy = Bomb first and then bomb again. Keep bombing until they greet you as liberators.
SL - SmartfulDodger, on 10/10/2008, -0/+12Keyman must work in upper management to care so little about the brick masons. Hey Keyman, how's the view from your top-floor office, you bourgeois fat cat?
