- PuterPrsn, on 11/25/2008, -0/+5FTA: "FOCA would nullify all existing laws and regulations that limit abortion in any way, up to the time of fetal viability"
1 - who determines fetal viability? The age at which premies are born and can live is getting shorter and shorter, so who determines this arbitrary date? And if they're born alive during the performance of an abortion, does that count as "fetal viability"??
2 - I don't blame them. The Catholic Church, among others, has a basic tenet against abortion without a dispensation, which can usually only be gotten if the mother is in danger of death. It is possible the Church would not allow any hospital granting abortions at will to retain their religious affiliation ... HOWEVER...
3 - I find it hard to believe that the Church allows these politicians to brag about their Catholicism and in the same breath say that abortions should be available on demand. Apparently the Bishops don't see too much wrong with that, or they would excommunicate them, and allowing their affiliated hospitals to perform abortions would only be a small step in the same direction they have already allowed their flock to follow.. - inactive, on 11/25/2008, -1/+3I wish the Catholic Church would excommunicate all politicians who publicly announce that they are pro-abortion. Abortion stops a beating heart, and is therefore legalized murder.
