- AARTARTHUR, on 11/09/2007, -17/+171Habeas Corpus has been around the Western world since 1215 why would anyone think that it was a good thing to bring back My God if we are going to be able to slide into tyranny we cant allow that happen. can we ? One day America will wake up however I fear it will be way to late. Hint when the blue hats show up its too two to late. Definition of crazy is doing the same thing every day and expecting different results. So go ahead and vote for your lame Stream CFR picked candidates or be brave and vote for Ron Paul.
- horseplay, on 11/09/2007, -23/+156We need Ron Paul.
- LuaPron, on 11/11/2007, -1/+105That is because the politicians are thoroughly unprincipled and obsessed with power - how to wield it and how to get more of it. There is little regard for what happens when the power they usurp gets transferred to the worst men and used against the people.
If there is anything that casts the politicians in their true colors, it is the unwillingness by most of them to challenge Bush on excessive executive authority. Instead, they go after the narrow set of scandals and actions that make them appear strong to their constituents. What is left over at the end of Bush's term will be transferred to future presidents. - psyjoniz, on 11/06/2007, -11/+96Ron Paul for president.
- inactive, on 11/08/2007, -7/+83I pray that all you guys register republican and vote for RP in the primaries. I really want him as president. Think of it as a personal favor to your mother. She deserves an honest politician in her lifetime
- natedouglas, on 11/09/2007, -6/+73I wonder why Kucinich didn't sign it. This makes me deeply curious about the method of this pledge.
- ScornForSega, on 11/09/2007, -7/+68Why do the presidential candidates hate freedom?
- rynTAU, on 11/07/2007, -9/+64"Is Ron Paul really the answer? I don't think I would vote for anyone who has two first names for his full name. "
Seriously? You mean double names like... John Adams, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, Ulysses Grant, Chester Arthur? - smokeblender, on 11/06/2007, -5/+54Good old Ron Paul, I love this guy.
- waynemr, on 11/06/2007, -4/+52Maybe he wasn't asked? The editorial just said vaguely all of the other candidates didn't sign it. I for one, would like to see the complete list of who was asked, when they were asked, and how they responded.
- diggydougie, on 11/06/2007, -0/+47Ron Paul aside. Why doesn't the press hound all of the candidates about the basics like this all the time?
- Jeffmr1, on 11/08/2007, -5/+46You're right, Ron Paul is the invariable underdog now, it's become popular in the 'underground' sense to support Ron Paul. However, i believe that's all for the better, more votes for him. There are a lot of us out here who do support Ron Paul because of his message and do understand the meaning of Liberty, so it's no reason to disregard his stances because he has some 'stupid' or annoying supporters...frankly, i believe that anyone who things any of the big candidates will make changes are the ignorant ones.
- jphudy, on 11/06/2007, -4/+43Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate I have ever wanted to vote for!! God Bless America! This country was started to get away from politicians like we have now. So easily our citizens forget. Those that died to give us out civil liberties are rolling in their graves every time we fail to see the danger.
- bratpack8, on 11/06/2007, -2/+39Yes, he gets my vote on those issues as well! Thanks for reminding everyone!
- zephc, on 11/06/2007, -2/+39Yes! Which is why I've donated twice.
- vanimal, on 11/05/2007, -2/+39I don't understand why anyone running for President wouldn't sign this. If you're planning on doing these things anyway, you'll already be completely disregarding the Constitution, the document you will stand on the steps of the Capitol Building and swear to preserve, protect, and defend. What difference would one more broken pledge make?
- ndavisAA, on 11/06/2007, -1/+36Dictators don't just give up power because they are asked too. You have to force them too.
- bratpack8, on 11/05/2007, -0/+33Democracy -- 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner.
- slickriven, on 11/06/2007, -7/+39@ satanatn... The only moron here is you. You need to understand this simple thing, it is IMPOSSIBLE to please all the people all the time. NO ONE is claiming Ron Paul is without his flaws, no one is saying he's the best in all his beliefs from top to bottom. HOWEVER, when you look at what he represents and his goals overall, he's the best candidate b/c he's not just the next guy/gal to fill the office. He strives for differences, he fights more of the powers than practically all the other candidates combined. Wake up and realize he's our best hope at a turn around.
- Daedalus81, on 11/05/2007, -2/+34Bangor,
While I agree with what you say to a point please don't reduce it to fearmongering people into accepting Ron Paul; otherwise we are no better than the other side. Spread the message the right way. - ncairns, on 11/05/2007, -14/+45Ah, but you conveniently omit the "I can't stand the Ron Paul supporters on Digg..." part.
When I talk to a Ron Paul supporter here, I almost invariably get the sense that they're completely ignorant and are only supporting Paul so they can say 'I'm supporting Ron Paul!' but I never get the feeling I'm talking to someone *paid* by Paul's campaign to make him look good. These Huckabee people are so obviously paid shills it's almost hilarious. - phillantropy, on 11/06/2007, -2/+31The Constirution grants the right of gun ownership. The Constitution does not give the Federal Government the power to adopt universal healthcare. He does have a plan for getting us out of this health care crisis. If you really care then go to http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/ Health care is the third issue in the column on the left. BTW Ron Paul is a Ob/Gyn that has delivered over 4,000 babies. He should know a little about the health care industry. Good reading:)
- asskey, on 11/06/2007, -4/+32Because he wants draconian gun control laws that just happen to be the complete opposite of freedom. Duh!
- chocobomog, on 11/05/2007, -1/+28"If you disagree with me then I am going to label you with a derogative term and dismiss you completely"
First comes the derogative labels. Then, after that becomes the norm, comes the punishment for disagreement. Eventually punishment turns into "manslaughter for the greater good" and is generally accepted as the "right thing" for your cause.
If you are going to protest against these people, don't stoop to their level. You are already at the first step, it is not too hard to slide into the next... - Phil1ip123, on 11/06/2007, -4/+31Go live in China for a year, and then come back and say, "***** constitutional republics."
- kinerry, on 11/06/2007, -2/+28Exactly
We are going to need those guns someday to defend ourselves against the government...why let them take them away? - MindStalker, on 11/08/2007, -7/+32Yay.. For hypocracy.
Ron Paul believes the State should be minuscule and that it can not force anything upon anyone. What he opposes is the fairly new trend of removing all references of religion of any sort from the public square. He wants a government just large enough to protect you from invasion, as well as from people who would change it into a theocracy as you obviously fear. The current size of the federal government and its ways of ignoring the constitution is leading to a much greater potential of being overtaken by a theocracy than any small government ever good. Remember as Reagan said, any government large enough to help each individual is also large enough to harm that individual. - diggitydoc, on 11/06/2007, -0/+25thats about the most retarded reason not to vote for someone i have ever heard... the only close approximation would be "Barak Osama"
- tehbored, on 11/06/2007, -2/+24Maybe only "popular" candidates were presented with it. I like him too and it surprises me that he didn't sign it.
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -1/+23Winston Churchill said it before you: "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."
- GRTWHT, on 11/05/2007, -2/+24It's been said 1000 times before...make it 1001:
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security.
Benjamin Franklin
Or if you prefer, try one of the many other versions of this quote: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=franklin+free ... - TwinTurboMike, on 11/07/2007, -3/+24There is a substantial amount of evidence showing suppression and denial of Ron Paul's popularity. Look at Google Trends, Alexa ratings, his number of individual donors, funds he's raised, the omnipresence of supporters at all candidates campaigns, etc. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen reporters try and dismiss his poll results as "spam" and at the same time, people like Fred Thompson who were intially popular in polls without having participated in debates, is merely accepted as truth. There is media bias, and it will only get worse. Please do some investigation to see what is clearly going on. I think you'll be shocked.
- verusdies, on 11/06/2007, -8/+28Look at me I like god, I want change, I can relate to the working man. Nom Nom Nom power taste good. (sarcasm)
Putting these neo-godlike celebrities and sporting events before political awareness has sadly turned to the average american motto. Is there a line between recreation and awareness? I'd love to see Hilary Clinton's reaction when someone confronts her about her bilderberg involvement. Or better yet confronting any of the potential elects with these issues. 47 million people in america don't have health care and yet the issue at hand is TERRORISM! dun dun dun. Things get old quick....next step martial law and world war 3.....go team :D - DjLoTi2, on 11/06/2007, -1/+20lol.. you can't be serious. Are you serious?
- ronaldinho, on 11/06/2007, -2/+21Because the opposite of freedom is control, and isn't that what all leaders want? More control?
- nextyoyoma, on 11/05/2007, -2/+20my friend, that is ridiculous.
- inactive, on 11/07/2007, -2/+20im voting for him, and im registered
and he is out in front in many areas
most donations from the military
most private citizen donations
has won the most straw polls
has the highest average in straw polls
wins all the post debate polls
most censored by the media ;)
most underestimated
most misrepresented (on purpose) by the media
most hated by the establishment
ofcourse he does have his short comings
he is last in donations from defense contractors
he is last in donations from lobbying groups
and worst of all hes never bothered to show up to 1 single CFR meeting! - Hetman, on 11/05/2007, -1/+19So basically you are saying the terrorist have already won. The point of terrorism is to instill fear and change someone way of life. If we give up our freedom we have already lost.
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -9/+26This is because they all are in on the conspiracy except Ron Paul who is aware of it. They all are puppets to the corrupt globalists who control the politics, media, and corporate worlds that we live in. The rape us with taxes, dull our minds with the media, and keep us enslaved while allowing us two options (dems or reps) - who are really the same party. Wake up people! Do you understand we pay the private corp named Federal Reserve to print our money, all it takes is a ***** printing machine - why pay billions in interest!!! Federal Reserve is as federal as FedEx! Do some research and stop believing everything they tell you. Hillary and Obama are CFR-related so stop thinking they are going to save us too. CFR are they people who brought us Iraq and pushing for Iran!
- Daedalus81, on 11/05/2007, -2/+19Ron Paul.
- Jackson1264, on 11/06/2007, -4/+20Maybe they are following the European Union who wants to destroy the Freedom of the Press next up the USA
http://slowdecline.wordpress.com/2007/11/02/the-en ... - trogdoor, on 11/08/2007, -0/+16And well armed sheep :)
- gypsynuke, on 11/05/2007, -0/+16Why? We were good for the entire history of aviation until 6 years ago. That's one incident in, 60 years? Ron Paul makes a good point saying if the government had allowed airlines to come up with their own security rules, this may not have happened in the first place. If planes had armed trained security like most large venues and buildings, 3 guys with box cutters would have been a non-issue.
All the details aside, it's never a good idea to live your life in fear anyway. Turning over all control to the government because you're scared of the boogeyman is a terrible way to live.
One of the first ideas that sprang up after 9/11 was, you should go about your business as usual or the terrorists win. Somehow that evolved into, give up rights and liberties without protest or you're aiding terrorism. - tizz66, on 11/05/2007, -0/+16"when the blue hats show up its too two to late"
What the? Well, I guess that's one way of picking the correct spelling - put them all down. - nextyoyoma, on 11/06/2007, -1/+16I get what you are saying, but I don't think the problem is that people are going to "forget" to vote for him. "Whoops, I was going to vote for Ron Paul, but I forgot and voted for Hillary instead...silly me!"
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -18/+33Only sick a-holes or complete idiots can argue against this truth.
- bratpack8, on 11/06/2007, -1/+16A democratic republic is much different than a democracy. Democracy is mob rule. The 'D' word doesn't appear in the Constitution for very good reasons. Our democratically elected representatives 'swear' to uphold the Constitution. Unfortunately, very few have.
- kurttrail, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1616th Amendment. Now point out where in the Constitution that says anything about taxes on wages as opposed to income. That you definitely won't find.
- Elranzer, on 11/08/2007, -0/+15"The American Freedom Agenda, an organization of **CONSERVATIVES** founded last March 20..."
Oh yeah, sounds like real liberal propaganda there.
Just more proof neocon scum like you like to throw around the word "liberal" as a swear word to describe anything that doesn't automatically agree with your delusions. - blackmage439, on 11/05/2007, -5/+20I realize that there is more to the issue, and this "Pledge" than what the article states. What I interpreted from this, however, is that no other candidate supports returning the U.S. to a "pre-Bush" state of keeping the power in the hands of ethical laws, officials, and tactics; except for Ron Paul. The other candidates also either lack foreign policy experience (Obama), scare the hell out of me (Hillary), or just aren't prime contenders.
Looks like I might be voting Republican... -
