- LordofShadows, on 10/12/2007, -11/+167Is it just me or does everyone hate hillary?
- offwithyourtv, on 10/12/2007, -18/+142I think it would be great to have a woman president. Just not Hillary.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+93Uh, how about just because there have never been any serious women candidates for the job? The last one i can think of was Elizabeth Dole, and she simply wasnt a strong candidate.
- Neiby, on 10/12/2007, -19/+94Everyone with a brain hates Hillary. She embodies everything that is wrong with American politics today.
We would have had a female President years ago if Elizabeth Dole had run for office instead of her husband. Bob Dole was a very week candidate. Elizabeth would have done better that year. Elizabeth Dole is what we want in a President: strong, intelligent, but not a bitch like Hillary. Hillary seems to equate bitchiness with strength. - mattxb, on 10/12/2007, -6/+73Its really hard for anyone to be elected president.
- Cutkomp, on 10/12/2007, -8/+74Hillary isn't the right woman for the job. Neither is Rudy.
- gamebittk, on 10/12/2007, -15/+75Hillary? I think someone stuck a snuke up her snizz...
- revenge7, on 10/12/2007, -8/+61Hillary thinks video games cause violence.
'Nuff said. - helinism, on 10/12/2007, -6/+58Because its easier for corporate America to ram its fist up a man's ass?
- EndersGame, on 10/12/2007, -17/+67Because they are all nappy headed hos.
- hark, on 10/12/2007, -19/+54MEN
- mattxb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35come on Junkyard, not even Grover Cleveland? just a little?
- dosle, on 10/12/2007, -11/+37"Receptionist: How do you write women so well?"
"Melvin Udall: I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability." - genetic, on 10/12/2007, -9/+33yay Boobies!
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -10/+33Hell yes.
And you, my friend, need to get a new girlfriend. - diablo75, on 10/12/2007, -9/+30I second that.
- natmaster, on 10/12/2007, -11/+30Why does it seem hard? Hilary is doing well and she's one of the worse candidates running. If anything, being a woman must be helping her!
- lieutenantmudd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Who said it is hard for a woman to be a President? Only a couple have tried, and they were all running from the "Hey look, I'm a woman, vote for me" position.
I can think of several women who could run tommorrow and be just as effective of candidates as males. - Piglith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Maybe because there hasn't and isn't a good candidate yet!
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Yeah, OK, but that doesn't count, because, come on - it's Grover Cleveland! Who doesn't get hard just thinking about him?
- stark23x, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21I disagree completely that it's smear campaigns. It's that neither party has put a woman up that appeals to most voters. The reason why? Most women who want power or service chose actually useful avenues to serve others or to control things. The ones who enter politics are the worst possible leaders.
As are the men, but that's another topic. :) - CatalystDM, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I agree with the point that there just haven't been strong candidates yet. And even Hillary doesn't strike me as a strong candidate, but rather gets a boost in the polls from the fact that she IS a woman.
- robohoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17With Hillary in office, that's one thing that you'll see less.
- Bowski, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Maybe because they have meltdowns when they're under the slightest bit of stress. Then they cry.
- OhROFL, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19I'd put my money on estrogen. You can't run America on it. America needs testosterone. And oil. Lots of it.
- dongcha9, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17because their periods attract bears!
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -13/+25I think Ron Paul is the right woman for the job. Or possibly Mike Gravel. Or which rich media bitch are we digging today?
- LegendX, on 10/12/2007, -9/+20I don't believe its the idea of having a woman president the problem. I live in Louisiana and our governor is a female. The problem does not lie in the gender, the mentality of these politicians is the real problem at hand. I'd vote for a woman if she was willing to stay on the same path and stay to her word. Hillary keeps flip flopping around. That is not the kind of president we need right now.
Is anyone feeling like this country is left best without a president? - beers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11@vertinox:
here's to hoping you're also young enough to see a decent president regardless of their color, sex, or beliefs. there hasn't been one in quite some time. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Because women with spines or don't look like supermodels are automatically judged as bitches or dykes.
- elimisteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Oh, stop whining. Hillary won't get elected President, not because she's a woman, but because she doesn't stand out from the crowd. She's not liberal enough for liberals and she's not conservative enough for conservatives. She does, however, accept more money from lobbyists that any other candidate in EITHER party: http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/select.asp?cycle=2008
Hillary Clinton -- a woman -- and Barack Obama -- a minority -- are TIED FOR FIRST IN THE POLLS. How can you complain? - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12It's funny that no one considers that. People don't avoid voting for a woman, they just haven't seen one they can get behind.
(oh *****, excuse the pun..) - joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@nakba - what makes people think Hilary is a bitch you ask? How about when she was running for senator in NY and people accused her of only doing it as a stepping stone back into the white house because it was the only place where she was popular enough to actually get elected, she publicly said she had no intentions of running for president on many occasions. Now she's running for president. That, my friend, is a lying bitch. No sexism here - just stating one reason why people think she is a bitch. I personally would love to see her win just so Bill could be the first lady.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14I don't think that it's gender that's the problem... people just don't like Hillary.
In 1996, I had wished that, instead of Bob Dole as the GOP candidate, his wife Elizabeth had run instead. - TB65, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Because their plans for world domination are always sidetracked by shoes.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I could vote for a woman for president. Just not Hillary.
We will have had 20 years in a row of Clintons and Bushes (28 if you could G. H-W. B as VP under Reagan).
That's enough.
It's time for some new blood. - redwire, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14Its not our fault!
Its just that during the debates the breasts are very distracting and we miss what they were talking about.... - reeder, on 10/12/2007, -28/+35I'd say smear campaigns are the reason.
- macguys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The media is making this a gender issue. It's stupid to concentrate on this. The problems of this country effect everybody whether they are a woman, a man or someone of less defined or more complex gender. Vote for the person you think is the smartest and most ethical, whatever their gender.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That'd make sense if Hillary wasn't the most conservative Democrat candidate. But umm, she is.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Is this what passes for an opinion piece in the mainstream media these days? What a joke.
First and foremost, in order to be ELECTED, you must first be SELECTED, by the mega corps. This can be plainly seen right now where rather unorthodox candidates like Gravel and Ron Paul who represent real change and a bucking of the system are hugely resonating with the public they reach, yet are suffering a near complete mainstream media blackout thanks to corporate control and media consolidation. - so on that front, it's difficult not for a woman to be elected, but SElected, possibly because fewer of them engage in the corruption game.
As far as Hillary, she's showing up with a huge baggage train of corruption and has little chance because of that - not because she's a woman - in fact, I would guess that a large percentage of her votes will be simply because she IS a woman and will have nothing to do with her competence, honesty or policies. I'd be tempted myself to cast a vote for a woman just for that reason, just not this woman, because of the long trail of corruption and the very misguided polcies she espouses.
So in answer to the question why is it hard for a woman to be elected? Because the one running isn't worth a damn. Give us someone worth voting for ans she'll win. - jmpeagle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9how many have seriously made a run for office though?
- swordedge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7There are a lot of women I'd vote for long before Hillary. Besides, I want a completely new team, no Bushes, no Clintons, no personal injury lawyers (Edwards), and few that are in congress right now.
- eonblue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Nothing wrong with a woman in office. I just havnt seen a good woman running for office that I would vote for (eg make it to the primaries).
If hilary gets elected it will be because she is a woman, and not because of her political beliefs?
Isn't that just as bad as somone not getting elected because they are a woman? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11The US is ripe for a female president.
I think the problem is that all of the really qualified females are getting paid millions to run large corporations.
And they are too smart to let themselves get reamed by the totally busted rabidly partisan us political process.
Hillary could do the job but she has way too much baggage to get elected. Her name has been demonized for far too long.
And too many red states will vote against her just because she is a Clinton. - AgentAce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6How about you just ate up Hillary's propaganda, hook, line and sinker. Good job for analyzing the facts and thinking for yourself.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8 By jove,helinism, I think you've got it!
- sandus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10*cough* Paul McCartney *cough*
- hellotyler, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15Menstruation.
- ricksite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Monolith3, I worked for Elizabeth Dole's campaign in '99 and I can shed some light onto the issue. Most of the Elizabeth Dole's supporters were also Bush supporters. When it came between choosing between the two, Bush was slightly more popular. This greatly effected fund raising efforts. It was the hope of many of these people that Bush would choose Dole as a running mate so why give money to her? Bush/Dole supporters felt that this was a ticket that couldn't lose. Of course, this didn't happen. If Bush had not been in the race, Dole would have been the front runner in Iowa. She placed third in the Iowa straw poll behind Bush and Forbes. Forbes poured a whole lot of money into the state but he didn't have a chance outside Iowa. Dole did have a chance outside Iowa (i.e., South Carolina) but third place in the straw poll is considering loosing the straw poll. She pulled out soon after.
