- ileen4justice, on 08/18/2008, -16/+137Yeah! And while dumping on Edwards does he forgot he dumped his first wife who waited for him while he was in Nam but didn't look so good after car accident so he hooked up with way younger blond chick beer heiress -- how about that freak Newt Gingrich who f'ed around on both his wives and left one while she was sick? And of course we can't forget about Phil Gramm's investment in porno now! Hyper-hypocrites..
- B08ama, on 08/18/2008, -15/+82In the Faith Forum, when asked if he wanted to tax the rich, McCain said, "some of the richest people I've ever known in my life are the most unhappy." He said being rich should be defined by having a home and a prosperous and safe world. Without mentioning Obama, he said some want to increase taxes. "I don't want to take any money from the rich. I want everybody to get rich," McCain said. When pushed on an exact number, he joked: "If you're just talking about income, how about five million?" He added, "I'm sure that comment will be distorted."
Out of touch? I'd say so. - schnikies79, on 08/19/2008, -13/+60Elitism is a state of mine, not a state of wealth.
I'm not supporting McCain, I'm just stating you can't pin someone as elite by their wealth. Anyway, elitism is the new boogey-man and is nothing more than a bull-***** phrase that shouldn't be uttered or even apply to this election or any other election. - jlhoben, on 08/18/2008, -9/+46The moral? When you sell out get a good price.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -5/+39IT'S OVER NINE HOUSES!!!!!!!
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -15/+49owning stuff != being elitist
- OfNumbers, on 08/19/2008, -4/+36Gee, I don't really know anyone with ten homes.
- davewashere, on 08/19/2008, -7/+34He didn't earn those millions by managing a successful business or through a series of intelligent investments; he was the son of a well-connected admiral who also happened to be the son of a well-connected admiral. He was born into the elite class, and it was through those upper class connections that he was able to attend the Naval Academy (finishing nearly dead-last in a class of almost 900) and it was also through those connections that he was able to meet the rich heiress to a brewing fortune. I wish I had the leadership skills to be born into an elite family and marry into another elite family.
- sulthernao, on 08/19/2008, -5/+30You do realize it is more to point out hypocrisy than to actually consider him an "elitist".
- duerra, on 08/19/2008, -18/+39Y'know, I try to stay out of these articles, as diggers are all kinds of ***** for Obama and all kinds of ***** against McCain, but sometimes it just gets a bit ridiculous. At least pick some intelligent things to digg up, folks.
I got news for ya - it doesn't matter WHO y'all vote for, if it's a primary candidate, they have lots of money, and all of them "simply doesn't understand the challenges America's working families are facing because they aren't remotely affected by them." - lebruf, on 08/19/2008, -3/+20I've never felt less inclined to vote Repulican. Party's *****.
- thegrantman, on 08/19/2008, -11/+28 He owns McMansions.
- Eric1285, on 08/19/2008, -5/+22Seriously. I'm broke and own very few material things...but I still have an elitist mindset. All it takes is the notion that one is better than everyone else...
- JMaj, on 08/19/2008, -2/+17he doesn't realize
- ConAmoreEFuoco, on 08/19/2008, -0/+15Your mom told me that those tenements are very nice and that she enjoys living there.
- ousthouse, on 08/19/2008, -1/+14step one: Marry a billionaire's daughter.
- elipabst, on 08/19/2008, -4/+17"elipabst...and do NOT forget that that ***** you support CHECKED EVERY BOX for BLACK AND OR AFRICAN he could to get into every school and every job. So tell me who got the free ride."
Wrong. He got into those schools because of his academic performance. Do think they just walk around the projects handing out scholarships to Harvard for anyone who's black?
On the other hand, McCain *only* got where he is because of his Dad. His old man got him into Annapolis and again into fight pilot school even after he finished at the bottom of his class. He then dumped his wife to marry some rich chick and got a government job paid by taxpayers. McCain has been suckling on a teet of some sort all his life. - kephas, on 08/19/2008, -0/+11Because quoting a person in context is distortion?
- bjornski, on 08/19/2008, -3/+14There's Quad with another of his race rants.
Seriously Quad, you have to get over your racism. - Eric1285, on 08/19/2008, -5/+15Seriously. I'm broke and own few material things, but I still have an elitist mindset. All it takes is the notion that one's better than everyone else.
- neonoodle, on 08/19/2008, -1/+12QuadZeroRoute: I am not a racist you *****...
QuadZeroRoute: ... Every black person I look at I see FREE RIDE *****!
Just acknowledge you're a racist idiot so you could let off all that pent-up energy with your Klan brothers. - bjornski, on 08/19/2008, -0/+10Here ya go, tough guy. Make it happen.
https://secure.military.com/Recruiting/page1.do?ES ...
Oh yeah, you'll ask that cranky old 72 year old man to handle your argument for you, while relying on other peoples kids to actually do the fighting.
Just another "internet tough guy" talking *****. Typical. - Singulariter, on 08/19/2008, -2/+11Please explain your point, it is currently baseless.
- rbk303, on 08/19/2008, -1/+10The old money folk are not so savory, however. I think those are the elitists people are concerned with. At least I hope so. I think someone born into that environment has a slightly distorted take on the reality of the average American.
- Johnagain, on 08/19/2008, -9/+18Elitist = attitude, not income.
- bjornski, on 08/19/2008, -1/+10It could also be that you really weren't qualified for the jobs you were applying for, Quad. With an attitude like yours, I wouldn't want you working in my business either.
There are more to job skills that book smarts. You have to deal with people. And you're really bad at it. - jounin9988, on 08/19/2008, -3/+12i love the article you posted. It basically says, Obama said 3 words that sound like bush's spp.gov thing. You're saying therefore he supports it. Nice try try twisting the truth, you should look into working for Fox News.
- psingl8715, on 08/19/2008, -2/+11Dear Eryximachus,
It saddened me deeply to hear your story. I understand you've had a hard life going to your expensive state college and buying that extravagant house in the city. It’s not because of your current financial distress but because of your lame attempt to defend the wealthy of this country. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it your choice picking which college to go to? Wasn’t it also your choice to pay such an outrageous price for a “basic house?” Yes, I agree that you make a decent living and you should be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor but you are not entitled to claim financial distress because you choose to live a higher class than you can afford. If you want to hear about financial distress, I’m sure there are plenty of people here who can paint you a better picture.
And the only reason those homes cost so much is because of idiots like you who actually pay that. - schnikies79, on 08/19/2008, -0/+9wow, late typo fix
Elitism is a state of mind, not a state of wealth. - MegWe, on 08/19/2008, -4/+12You need to look into Barack's background. He just finished paying off student loans a few years ago.
He has paid for his campaign with donations from 2,000,000 individuals. He has never been "rich" except for the last few years he has made some money with his book sales.
He understands the challenges of working families. He grew up in one. He is challenged by "his background" every minute of every day.
- MysticSavage, on 08/19/2008, -2/+10Dear Eryximachus,
Move. - elipabst, on 08/19/2008, -3/+11"A. McCain was raised in a middle class family."
Doubtful. His father was a high ranking admiral in the US Navy so they were pretty well off. For comparison, in today's dollars he'd be making about $170,000 - $209,000 with a housing allowance. That's more than a lot of doctors make. - More4, on 08/19/2008, -1/+9McCain's wife, Cindy, is the Hensley in Hensley, the nation's third-largest Anheuser-Busch distributor. Her father, Jim, founded the company 50 years ago, and she became the controlling stockholder of the privately held company upon his death in 2000. Cindy Hensley McCain is chairwoman of Hensley's board of directors.

"Every year, more money is spent promoting the use of alcohol than any other product. Perhaps through its elaborate and creative marketing, the most basic, yet important fact about alcohol is often overlooked — alcohol is a drug — the most commonly used and widely abused psychoactive drug in the world."
http://www.gdcada.org/statistics/alcohol.htm - Godzillajesus, on 08/19/2008, -19/+27This is stupid. Mud racking is a tactic used in desperation.
- Scratkiller, on 08/19/2008, -15/+21I don't live in the US, but I swear to God I will take a plane and personally punch each and every person who voted for McCain, if he wins. That's a promise.
- Poovey, on 08/19/2008, -6/+13Elitism is an attitude, you don't have to be rich to be an elitist, but it helps.
- elipabst, on 08/19/2008, -3/+10Do something right? Like how he married a rich sugar-momma? The dude hasn't worked a real job in his life or did you forget that he was a rich navy brat whose dad got him into Annapolis and then pulled strings to get him into fighter training even though he finished at the bottom of his class?
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -1/+8haha. this is why i love the internet
- rabidbob, on 08/19/2008, -0/+7But if everyone was rich who would serve us breakfast in Denny's?
- inactive, on 08/19/2008, -1/+8Oh good goddamn.
That canard is just as much a steaming pile of ***** as the crap with Reverend Wright.
They're both utter ***** intended to distract people away from the real issues. - Mesmascizer, on 08/19/2008, -2/+9Yea, so that means he's going to set us all up with rich chicks/guys? That's what he did anyway.......
- morningmatters, on 08/19/2008, -1/+7First, you don't pay more than 50% on income taxes even if you include the city tax. Also, taxes is not a flat rate which is applied to all of your salary. The highest tax bracket is 350k/yr+, but making 350k+/yr doesn't mean that you will pay the max 35% federal tax on the entire 350k. Instead, you pay 28% on your income between 78 to 160k, 33% between 160k to 350k, and then 35% for all of the amount above 350k. If you actually filed for taxes you should know this.
Lastly, get out of NYC if you can't afford it. There are thousands of investment bankers whose average bonus doubles that of your salary, yet choose not to live in the city because of costs. - inactive, on 08/19/2008, -1/+7Well said sir...or ma'am..
- elipabst, on 08/19/2008, -2/+8"elipabst as a matter of fact they do go around in the ghetto and hand out athletic scholarships...'
Yeah, that was a great story. But, they don't give athletic scholarships at Ivy league schools, of which Columbia is a member. - rjn17960, on 08/19/2008, -2/+8Right, like Jim Adkisson, the guy who shot all those folks in the church:
"Inside the house, officers found 'Liberalism is a Mental Health Disorder' by radio talk show host Michael Savage, 'Let Freedom Ring' by talk show host Sean Hannity, and 'The O'Reilly Factor,' by television talk show host Bill O'Reilly."
Poster boy for McCain voters. - snkscore, on 08/19/2008, -2/+8One is based in fact, the other is based in *****.
- Cuchanu, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6Uhhh... communism would be taking ownership of the oil companies, not taking taxes.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/communis ... - Spektr4, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6That wasn't the point. The point was, a man with 10 homes is trying to label the guy who just recently crossed the million mark as an "elitist". McCain has been an elitist for decades. In fact, the entire senate are elitists, and what a joke it is that they play this game of trying to portray themselves as "just folks" while the other guy is out of touch, rich, elite.
- mille716, on 08/19/2008, -0/+6I watched the video yesterday and was surprised by the five million comment. I rewinded it and watched it again even. I'd ask everyone to do the same and see if your take is like mine. He seemed to realize he needed to give an actual number and said the five million comment. To me it looked like he honestly believed it then after a second or two realized how ***** stupid it was for a politician to actually say it, hence the "I'm sure my comment will be distorted" follow up.
Oh yea, the whole being rich as a having a home and better world for kids is just pandering to dumbasses. It was a different definition of the word rich and Warren was clear that he wanted a number. If McCain is going to talk about helping the middle class he ***** should define what he really thinks is middle class and what is rich. If its not five million then what is it? - kiwiboyus, on 08/19/2008, -2/+7Your screen name says other wise.
