White House press secretary shamed into ending 'blacklist'
rawstory.com — I thought it was shameful that 10 days after a NY Times article about how the establishment media colluded with the Pentagon to sell the Iraq war and GWOT to the American people by hiring the Pentagon's "message force multipliers" as military analysts, no one asked the White House about it. I'd been trying, but I'd been on Perino's 'blacklist.'

- yellowcakewalk, on 05/01/2008, -2/+6It's not hard to shame that bimbo. Ask her any question that requires a high school education. Ask her about the Cuban Missile Crisis for example. Ignorance is a badge of pride among the loyalists, as it is in any tyranny.
- LukasSmith, on 05/01/2008, -7/+3What I want is a digg article about Liberal propaganda. I think somewhere there must be a three hundred or so page memo about how to convince the American people that anti-war hippies aren't just nuts and that 1000's of troops are dying every month and a trillion dollars is being spent every year to fund the war. None of which is true. The liberal media is alive and kicking. Hell I remember watching the last Boston Legal. They referenced McCain's hundred year war statement. The statement that has already been proved to be a misleading portion of a larger film where McCain went on to describe what he meant was a long involvement such as we have with Vietnam. For those who don't know we do not have an Army in Vietnam. This 100 year war thing and so many others were just typical liberal anti war propaganda. We must fight it in every way.
- Nodaki, on 05/01/2008, -4/+4Because you are anti-war does not make you a hippy.
Are not enough cilivians and soldiers dying on a daily basis for you? Last month it was 50 Americans dead!
Have we not spent enough of our treasure on this? The three trillion estimate is a lowball figure in what this war will cost us if we left now. I forgot you support the troops with your yellow magnetic false patriotism garbage. Why don't you go support a family of four who has lost their father for this lie?
We are still fighting Vietnam, we have thousands of vets who will never be the same due to wounds, psychological damage, and the beautiful Agent Orange.
You sitting in your chair typing about a liberal media bias against this administration is typical from the pathetic cowards in this country.- CryRightardCry, on 05/01/2008, -4/+5Yep, "Pathetic cowards" is dead on for the rightard shills like this *****.

Where are the other real journalists?- TrevaLVF, on 05/01/2008, -0/+16The legendary Helen Thomas was there. Remember her? WH Press Corp Chief that's been there since Kennedy? The Boston Globe real journalist that was, for the first time, blacklisted from being able to ask questions during press conferences after she wrote, "Bush is the Worst President in US History." The same one that had become a front row fixture at Press Corp meetings, who was put at the back of the room when Bush gave a speech (lies) and then answered (softball) questions from the (government compliant, cowardly) pseudo-journalists, completely ignoring real journalist Helen Thomas.
It's understandable why she encouraged him to keep returning and keep holding up his hand. Surely, she was positively impressed that he'd hit Perino hard with a damned good question.- smcgrath, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1From a few days ago:

- Dukeye, on 05/01/2008, -1/+74This story (which I hope will continue to get plenty of coverage) will wake up many to the sad reality that our government runs vicious psyops propaganda campaigns on its own citizens. I'm thankful, and it's about time! Kudos to these journalists and their awareness, courage, and tenacity.
- pintomp3, on 05/01/2008, -2/+5yeah, right. the corporate media isn't done running endless stories about the preachers and reverends of candidates.
- tellahoohooo, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3Sad but true...even this morning it was on every morning news channel..."Did Reverend Wright hurt Obama's chances" "Obama's down in the poles according to the latest findings"...etc...every channel
now for the weather (which is usually wrong as well) - eviltandem, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1I think we're seeing the first salvo from the Republican party. I think they've concluded that Obama vs McCain isn't going to go so well, so they are going to try to move the needle. If they can make it McCain vs Rev Wright, they will do better.
I would expect to hear about him all the way until November. I believe this will be the "flip-flop" of this campaign.

- Marijuana, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2The government wants to maintain a status quo where we sleep, work, eat and buy. The internet challenges that. Makes you wonder why there's been talks of ending net neutrality.

- CloakandSwagger, on 05/01/2008, -1/+60I really appreciate the ongoing coverage of this.
I certainly don't expect the White House to allow any more sensible analysis of the situation, and the mainstream cable news networks remain silently complicit as they continue to move lock-step with this administration's agenda.
After helping to steal elections, sell wars, silence presidential candidates, marginalize debates, stifle dissent, and ceremoniously push propaganda on behalf of the military industrial complex, the mainstream cable news networks will not only fail to provide an apology, they will actively attempt to bury the story under more propaganda in hopes that nobody will notice and begin to ask, what else have they been lying about? - TeddySanFran, on 05/01/2008, -1/+11Thank you, Erik
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -45/+2Why do you continue to digg up articles from Rawstory, Mediamatters, Moveon.org, Firedoglake, Huffingtonpost, Thinkprogress, crooksandliars, and whatever other crap sources there are? Do you think you are informed? They are as bad if not worse then all the major cable news networks. Unashamedly biased. Your hypocrisy when it comes to these sites is truly astounding.
- Jimbob200, on 05/01/2008, -2/+18Are you a White House stoolie?
- Jimbob200, on 05/01/2008, -1/+15To expound on my admittedly shortsighted comment: the article's source is irrelevant, it was backed up by a white house transcript that clearly showed Ms. Perion's lame attempt to provide an explanation for the government directing propaganda at its own citizens. Either you're willfully ignorant or stupid.
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -14/+1Name calling is great, but, the article's source is everything. By it you can determine how trustworthy it is, if it comes from any of the sites I mention that are sad, sad places to get your news, you should definitely do some fact-checking. She obviously wasn't ready with a response to that question, and she is under no obligation to call on anyone. It's a tough job when everyone in the media is against you.
- Jlaugh, on 05/01/2008, -1/+7It's a sourced article with a video attached.
- eviltandem, on 05/01/2008, -0/+4You are stupid. Sourcing is important when all you have is quotes. When you have VIDEO it doesn't matter. The VIDEO speaks for itself.
Unless you are proposing that any of these sites are doctoring the videos, then I'm trying to understand why where we get the video from matters. One cannot slant a video without lots of cuts, and there were no cuts.
It's true she is under no obligation to call on anyone. She's just supposed to represent the leader of a democratic country. One would think you wouldn't show such hostility towards your fellow citizens.
- h3lx, on 05/01/2008, -1/+2So which is it, willfully ignorant or stupid?
/probably both.
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -14/+1Name calling is great, but, the article's source is everything. - javip, on 05/01/2008, -0/+7the more thoughtful response was above.. made by Jimbob200.. the one you intentionally chose not to respond to :)
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -11/+1Yes, calling me names is quite thoughtful. He in his response, which fails to determine why exactly you guys think you are getting both sides of the story by going to those sites, yet call anyone who watches Fox "sheep".
- Bhima, on 05/01/2008, -1/+7As the transcript exists it doesn't really mater what website you quote it from. The fact that you object to Rawstory, Mediamatters, Moveon.org, Firedoglake, Huffingtonpost, Thinkprogress, and crooksandliars is indicative that you a 26 percenter.
So none of these guys are doing any sort of name calling, that simply observing that you are a White House stoolie - boombye, on 05/01/2008, -0/+8Not to mention all I needed as proof was Dana Perino's admitting the program was going on, and that it stopped, for obvious reasons, like the fact that they don't need to get us in Iraq anymore, we're already over there. I'm sure the program is picking up again though as the Israeli lobbyists are desperately pleading for us to invade Iran as soon as possible and use our Nukes because they refuse to use their own, because they're not technically allowed to have any, even though they do have some, and plus they rather us fight our wars for them. But that's a different topic. She still admits what was going on and got pissed off about having to explain it, and she's going to get scolded by her colleagues for being an idiot and saying that something that's illegal doesn't in her opinion need to be illegal. She doesn't feel that something illegal should be illegal, but it's cool as long as they get to break the rules right? That's what the enemy wants, more reasons for our allies and friends here in the West to lose trust in us, for us to become Fascist, for our own people to turn against each other, and so that we eventually enter a Jericho situation where PMCs/PSDs/PSCs run wild. That's the goal of the enemy, it's been obvious for many from the start except Republicans, and many people who lack the basic common sense of being understanding of other cultures or philosophies or customs or traditions.. Let's face it, if your traditions entail beer runs, watching nascar, hunting, getting fat, driving an suv and still complaining about gas prices, you're probably lacking in culture, and I wouldn't expect you to know much about another's culture.
Bush used to always say: "We'll fight them there so that we don't have to fight them here!"
I don't mind fighting them anywhere because I'm not a scared little bitch personally.
Like the old saying goes: "Give me Liberty or give me death"
Republicans are cowards. Making young people fight for them for their lazy rich fat white asses. - Marijuana, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1Good read.

Ok, I'll bite. The story is that the White House (again) is flagrantly ignoring the law and intentionally breaking it. We have documents and video proving that not only did they do it, but knew they were doing it.
What's the other side to the story?
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -10/+1Yes, don't come up with a thoughtful response just call me names. Thanks.

- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -14/+1I don't recommend ONE site. I would say the one I trust the most is Drudgereport. I get my news from many news sources, I don't just stick to Fox, I go everywhere. Just take everything you read with a grain of salt.
- javip, on 05/01/2008, -1/+11Fox........
*sigh*- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -11/+1I was combating the assumption that Republicans and Conservatives only watch Fox. Notice after that I say, "I go everywhere".
- MoofTheStoof, on 05/01/2008, -1/+10...except Rawstory, Mediamatters, Moveon.org, Firedoglake, Huffingtonpost, Thinkprogress, and crooksandliars - all of which are excellent resources but might present you with facts that don't handily reconcile to your worldview. (responding to patpi22391 above)
- eviltandem, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2You go "everywhere" that doesn't challenge any of your predetermined beliefs. Then you might get informed, and we don't want that.
I would watch Fox if they ever got anything even remotely honest/straight/right. These guys just look you straight in the eye and lie. Repeatedly. Once the evidence becomes so overwhelming that they were lying, they just move on to a new story and pretend like the last set of lies never happened.
This is not opinion, we have it on video. I'm still chuckling at fox's latest "lincoln debated frederick douglass" video. Ahahaha, classic. You can't buy stupid this good. - patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -2/+1@ moofthestoof -- Lol "excellent" sources. Yes, I guess by your comment I should only read stuff I agree with, which would make you a hypocrite for attacking people who watch Fox because "they agree with it". Just because you agree with something doesn't mean it is right.
@ eviltandem -- I never claimed to go only to places that only share my beliefs, that would..well...make me you. I'm on Digg aren't I? That right there challenges your baseless accusations. You of course, like everyone on Digg, only have to claim how evil and biased Fox is yet you fail to show evidence of them "look[ing] you straight in the eye and [lying]. Repeatedly." These websites are the exact same way. They have pulled several anti-McCain stories due to shoddy "journalism". They are not interested in their own party, they just attack Republicans. - MoofTheStoof, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3"Just because you agree with something doesn't mean it is right." - patpl22391
I agree with them BECAUSE they're right.
- Marijuana, on 05/01/2008, -1/+5Funny how you care so much about the credibility of your sources Pat, yet you watch Fox. Oh the irony.
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -2/+1I said I get my news from many sources, unlike you who goes to only these websites and comments on Digg with the rest of the extremely liberal majority.
- shakbhaji, on 05/01/2008, -1/+2Druge Report? And you wanna talk to US about "unashamedly biased?" Jesus Christ.
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1How is Drudge biased? I've seen studies that say Drudge is liberal in the stories he links too. What I like about Drudge is he often links to multiple articles on the same issue so you can get different perspectives.
- gandhii, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1I think it is foolish to only read sources that are significantly neocon (fox and drudge), as it is to do the same with "progressive" sources like the ones you mentioned If you're going to read bias news... and it is impossible to avoid it these days.. I'd rather keep an eye on all the different views.
- patpl22391, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1When I said everywhere, damn't, I MEANT everywhere. I don't go to townhall.com or newsbusters, or any other right wing sites, and I don't go to any of those left wing sites.

- TrevaLVF, on 05/01/2008, -1/+8When they're nailing the evidence and tough questions to the liars and their lying minions, then they deserve to be dugg up to the front page and kept there.
If you appreciated being well-informed with the truth and if you valued the truth, then you would not be asking such a stupid question. You'd know the answer, because you would be digging something like this, too.- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -11/+1If you valued the truth you would know that these sites are passing off personal opinion as fact. The same criticism you apply to Fox, can be applied to these. Yet you love 'em to death.
- boombye, on 05/01/2008, -1/+4They just get their stuff right more often than the dinosaur known as Mainstream Media, and especially more so than Fox. Regardless of Bias or not, Fox can never get facts right even with their bias. I mean it's one thing to expect them to be liberal, but they better be right about the facts they provide. So far, they've proven more reliable in bringing certain matters to our attention and also to the attention of the MSM, whom often goto blogs for their news too.
- eviltandem, on 05/01/2008, -1/+3How does one lie about VIDEO? Maybe they're interpretation is left, but that doesn't change the contents of the video.
Which is why you don't want to talk about it. You want to argue about what site is presenting the video, as though that has any bearing on it's content...- whodoes, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2liberal video cameras.
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1@whodoes & eviltandem -- I wasn't referring solely to this story. I was referring to EVERY story and all the websites.
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -11/+1If you valued the truth you would know that these sites are passing off personal opinion as fact. The same criticism you apply to Fox, can be applied to these. Yet you love 'em to death.
- whodoes, on 05/01/2008, -0/+5Im digging the story not the source. This isn't a team sport for me. If it had been CBN or Talon News that produced the work I would have dugg their story. If you have an issue WITH THE CONTENT fire away please, Ive got time for a debate on the facts. Right-wingers (and maybe you aren't one) have a habit/tactic of labeling a source in such a fashion that they can justify disregarding everything from the source without needing to address it.
- swrostmore, on 05/01/2008, -0/+5This story flat-out disproves the wingnut spin that anything that comes from liberal blogs like Raw Story is inaccurate or bad journalism. THE ONLY journalist that has asked for, and gotten, a statement on the record from the White House about the Message Force Multipliers propaganda op is now a journalist from Raw Story - and this makes Raw Story a better source for current events journalism than anyone else. Even if the White House statement they got was complete BS.
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2This may be one example where they decided not to spin it, yet, you'd never find them telling about how Democrats supported it in secret. Just like they have supported Bush in many of his ideas, albeit, secretly.
- gandhii, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1I totally agree with that. I wish you had spoken on that issue earlier rather than wasting all of our time by speaking on the irrelevant issue of how you feel about media with a liberal bias. Then we can all happily bash on all those fools together. ;]
- patpl22391, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2This may be one example where they decided not to spin it, yet, you'd never find them telling about how Democrats supported it in secret. Just like they have supported Bush in many of his ideas, albeit, secretly.
- hawkeye17, on 05/01/2008, -1/+1Many of the stories posted there are from Reuters, AP, NYT, Wall Street Journal, etc. You sound ignorant when you ignore news sources based on your own bias. what we are witnessing is the self destruction of capitalism. it had to happen it goes against every universal law in the universe. this is why atheists are as dangerous as the religious neither understands these universal laws.
in fact the evangels are the worst of the war mongers. karma time in America. what we sow we reap. the chickens have come home to roost. well you get the picture.

Dear corporate media editors (Times, NY Post, Fox etc.)

- InsultComedy, on 05/01/2008, -0/+7Send a note to WND from their website to the editor thanking them for getting Perino to call on Brewer. I did. WND is very conservative. It was classy of them.
RawStory has the video link.- swrostmore, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1Well, the site being conservative doesn't mean their journalists are. Most journalists are pretty unbiased. The slant of the source generally comes from the ownership.
- Jerky1312, on 05/01/2008, -0/+37Notice she avoids calling on him, until another journalists points it out and she has no choice. She realizes its going to be a tough question, hence the reason she was avoiding him, so she says "I'm sure it'll be a great question." Talk about being a bitch. She than interrupts the guy two or three times, as he recaps the NYT article, which she doesn't want him to do. He finally finishes his question and she seems annoyed by it and gets flustered and goes on defending the propoganda campaign operation. Than, to avoid any further follow up questions about it, she rushes on out of there. Disgusting.

- swrostmore, on 05/01/2008, -1/+4This story flat-out disproves the wingnut spin that anything that comes from liberal blogs like Raw Story is inaccurate or bad journalism. THE ONLY journalist that has asked for, and gotten, a statement on the record from the White House about the Message Force Multipliers propaganda op is now a journalist from Raw Story - and this makes Raw Story a better source for current events journalism than anyone else. Even if the White House statement they got was complete BS.

- digitalhair, on 05/01/2008, -0/+11Finally, people will stop saying "MEDIA FAILURE" - I'm so sick of the politically correct *****!!! So much evidence of malicious activity and so many questions about conflicts of interest and lack of oversight have been swept under the rug by the most widely read and watched national news providers, we should be referring to this relationship as a COUP D' ETAT. Unbelievable that anyone can maintain their trust after learning about just ONE of the major "media failures." Let's see who's traitorously unpatriotic and stupid enough to deny the deafening silence from the media on this one...
- thrashertm, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2It is collusion in the worst way!!!! Bring out the guillotine - off with their heads!
- BDilla, on 05/01/2008, -15/+0haha the reason this chick is such a bitch is because i blew my load in her right before she told me she got off birth control, i told that *****.. bitch, if you dont have no abortion im gonna punch you in the baby till i see that fetus shoot out your *****. she was pissed mostly because nobody likes a fat camera personality, especially ones who are so so horrible at lying. did you see the way she stuttered at first. every ***** idiot that we agreed to be in the white house is SO ***** at lying, i think its because 5/6 of america are ***** idiots and go with whatever they are told. and on the other side there are that 1/6 who do watch cspan instead of nbc, who do research ***** beyond what anne curry says, and who do think independently in the sense that "ya i believe every human on the planet has a dna mutation below .01% and i do realize that if i were to be a woman and drink alcohol before having a baby that a monkey would have closer matching dna to me then that baby" but ***** paris hilton gets wasted lets chug beer until we black out! unfortunately, people still believes that there is a god, and heaven, and if you hate somebody you go to hell. - Photokon, on 05/01/2008, -2/+1This is no different than the RIAA and MPAA giving "news stories" to local media stations about piracy and other crap, meanwhile the news stations pass along this "news" as their own reporting.
Mainstream media is full of government and private corporation interests. Many people consider this tin foily, but you really do see what the government and corporations want you to see. Blogs are the wave of the future as the amount of sources is unlimited.

While this video is not high quality, this is only one of many like it. I bet much of the audio is replaced with the regular news reporter's voice in your local area.- ayeroxor, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3The only difference is when the administration does it, it is literally and quite clearly against the law- a very clearly-written law.
- DD2CC2U, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3Great Job Eric! Boy, it sure seems like the White House Press Corps are acting like a bunch of beaten down slaves to the Bush administration. The MSM has become an extension of the GOP and the government.
- jellygraph, on 05/01/2008, -0/+14Notice how she said: "And I don’t think that that should be against the law." In a way, she's suggesting that what they did might be against the law.
It is against the law... another one to nail on some schmuck who will take the fall for Cheney and Bush and the rest.- thrashertm, on 05/01/2008, -0/+4Yet where is the outrage? - haobaba1, on 05/01/2008, -0/+3It is indeed very interesting how the Main stream media outlets have ignored this story to no end. This is the same main stream media that created a huge ruckus about a few transparent web sites focused on North Africa and the Balkins and forced the inspector general to review the constitutionality of the the sites several times before allowing them to continue. These other sites were different in two big ways, first they were focused at foreign audiences exclusively and second they didn't depend on main stream media or provide value to main stream media. Seems that anything that provides value to mainstream media is acceptable. Tyrants are never elected and it seems that the tyrants america has are the main stream media outlets. What was that Jefferson said about tyrants? Is it getting near that time?
- thrashertm, on 05/01/2008, -0/+1Which web sites are you referring to? I missed this story I think.

- inajeep, on 05/01/2008, -0/+6I propose a new law, whenever the White House spokesperson is on camera and speaks to the press, he/she are required to be hooked up to a lie detector. It will be broadcast the results in a monitor right over the shoulder or as an in-screen video feed and we can all see the spike when the lies come. Or will that needle swing wildly so often as to be really of no use?
- Kallius, on 05/01/2008, -2/+2Buried as inaccurate. Those in the White House have no shame.

- obamayomama, on 05/01/2008, -7/+0This article is rubbish. Why would anyone want to call on Brewer when they know it's only going to be a diatribe rather than a question? Any reasonable person (key word- reasonable) would understand that the "establishment media," are in fierce competition with each other for ratings, not in collusion. Who should the news outlets look to for expert opinions about military matters if not those that have served? Perhaps we should look to Dunesbury types like Brewer for that instead...yeah, that'd make sense. And thanks for including the totally pointless chat with Helen Thomas. Really relevant to the story there. What a joke.

- darladoon, on 05/01/2008, -0/+2whether military analysts, with a financial stake in the defense industry, were "tough" on the president's policy overlooks a very serious problem with american foreign policy in general.
and that is, by what authority does the united states invade and occupy two different muslim countries, maintain multiple military bases throughout the region, and position warships wherever they want within the persian gulf?
