- whatthefu, on 10/10/2007, -7/+100You know, there are other sites that report on these things other than rawstory.com and thinkprogress.org. I'm just throwing that out there.
- SunnyEllis, on 10/10/2007, -4/+66So the actual article is fine, but the contempt of congress charges that are being brought up have nothing to do with war crimes. The investigation is regarding the firing of 9 prosecutors because of their (possible) unwillingness to pursue charges of voter fraud during the 2006 elections.
- JackHorner, on 10/10/2007, -5/+31everything is beginning to fall apart, I love it. Lets just hope they don't let some terrorist attack happen to get themselves out of hot water.
- brufleth, on 10/10/2007, -9/+35Yes there are. Please try to post/dig stories from reputable news sources that aren't left/right wing crazy clubs. I am a liberal but I still can't take stories from thinkprogress.org and rawstory.com seriously.
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Did they ignore a Congressional Subpoena? Yes. Is that a felony, yes. Should the White House interfere with contempt charges? No. Will they? Yes- they've allready said they will order the DC AG not to enforce that law.
It's good to be Bush... Czar Bush. It's Bush's version of Civilization IV. - obxjdt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17It's posted in "Political News". How is it the wrong topic???
- jsqurred, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17more info at cnn http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/07/25/house.contempt/index.html
"Some may argue that the stakes in this confrontation are so high we can't afford the risk that we might lose," Conyers said.
"And I would say to them that if we countenance a process where our subpoenas can be readily ignored, where a witness under a duly authorized subpoena doesn't even have to bother to show up, where privilege can be asserted on the thinnest basis and in the broadest possible manner, then we've already lost. We won't be able to get anybody in front of this committee or any other."
We need more people taking initiative like Conyers. - lopla, on 10/10/2007, -5/+19Bush is on his way to dominating the rightful spot of "WORST PRESIDENT IN HISTORY". The Dems SHOULD impeach but they will not.. just sitting by while Bush implodes will give them a landslide in 2008. You can't really blame them, they are giving the American people exactly what they voted for. America is being taught a lesson I hope in never forgets.

- dtschwe, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14"Nevertheless, that is a decision to be made by the Department of Justice," Snow said. "We don't choose the response. The Department of Justice will handle the referral."
-yeah right - physphd, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15If there truly were terrorists whose unfounded hatred of America stemmed from contempt for our freedoms, there would be no need to attack - they have won. Freedoms are curtailed, civil liberties and human rights are threatened. What on there wish list could be accomplished that hasn't already? No, any further attack is proof positive of neo-conservative complicity with the alleged terrorists.
- snotrokit, on 10/10/2007, -4/+15Looming big scary Terrorist attack threats in 5 4 3 2 ........
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14"If the Nuremberg laws were applied, then every post-war American president would have been hanged." http://www.chomsky.info/talks/1990----.htm
- alacrity2005, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Yeah... like ANY of the possible choices would have been worse than what we have now. Wake the hell up.
- Brassmonk, on 10/10/2007, -12/+20Buried for title.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Yeah, Ben Granklin! Also, Thomas Befferson!
- saltmiser, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9'bout friggen time!
- cryptoki, on 02/01/2008, -3/+10Is it a victory for terrorists.. if our bill of rights is wiped out, people are chipped, we need a camera at every corner, fully tappable phones and internet connections, constant media driven fear state. and as a citizen cannot see federal emergency/contingency plans in case of a national emergency?
Isnt this what Ben Granklin warned us about... with the "security and safety quote"?"
I - 7goats, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Why can't people just write accurate headlines? No body, and I mean no body is thinking about war crimes in congress.
- AnotherBrian, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Damn right. I am so sick of people obfuscating swear words. It's like people spelling words they don't want a child to understand. There is a profanity filter for the people who don't want to see it, the rest of us would like to be treated as adults.
- Cloudzi, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7"Snow, who accused the Democrats of indulging in cheap political theater, also showed a graphic claiming that a stack of the papers the White House had given Congress in the case would reach twice the height of the White House."
Paperwork... the American threat of mass destruction.. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8So... you're saying we should start posting stories from dailykos?
(I jest, I jest.) - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Hey why dont you all stop drinking the kool aid for 5 minutes and read some facts I'm a independent and hate both party's but not one party truly serves the American people
http://www.mediaresearch.org/cyberalerts/2007/cyb20070314.asp - Immij, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yeah, you could have had the slightly dry, uninteresting but statesman-like war veteran; or the draft-dodging, smirking, constitution-shredding Commander Guy!
- IADTatami, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I can't speak for the administration, but I know that I'm scared *****.
I don't know if those jackholes in the White House even have feelings. - Dralha, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Sept. 11, 2001 was the death of America and the birth of Amerika.
- BenMitchell, on 10/10/2007, -7/+12LOL - I'd love to see shrub and his cronies bought down as war criminals or worse. But lets remember sometimes you take the easy wins - remember Al Capone ;-)
- tpsobeck, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Most of you applauding such an article fail to realize that even though this committee has approved this measure it still has to do several things. The first is that it must pass through congress and second, the federal prosecutor must execute the contempt citations. Due to precedent though, the contempt charges will most likely be thrown out before they are ever able to do anything.
This is just another time-wasting effort by a congress to help themselves win the white house. No real legislation will be passed until then. - bloominoctober, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Is it really an assault? Or did they grab Congress by the arm and escort it out of the conference?
- masterkenobi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4"everything is beginning to fall apart, I love it. Lets just hope they don't plan some terrorist attack to get themselves out of hot water."
/fixed
FYI, I'm not one of those that says 9/11 was an inside job. But seeing how corrupt this administration is, i wouldn't be surprised if anything in the future were. - atheinostic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6But I thought the attorneys at the Department of Justice - under Bush's 'unitary executive' theory - were supposed to be "emanations of the president's will"...? Sounds like the president's will is a bit schizophrenic.
- elhaf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Already happening. ABC and some airport have already been evacuated, a new Bin Laden audiotape has surfaced, and the terror threat level is now red. Coincidence? maybe the first 30 times.
- unknownunknowns, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Buried for ad hominem.
- maxtangent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Perhaps you could recommend an unbiased site?
- Subiklim, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Is "assault" the word of the day on digg today? Each time I've seen it (here, fred thompson story) it has been used incorrectly. Get a dictionary people! Assault is not related to assail! An assault is a physical attack.
- otep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4.
Clearly, Congress hate America.
. - Mariachi94, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Really? You think rawstory.com is bad reporting? I know they're liberal slanted, but their coverage of these investigations is well done, IMO.
- elhaf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well, who's your pick then? Who has done worse?
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Especially because the Republicans had an immunity clause for past war crimes in the unconstitutional Military Commissions Act of 2006.
Note that I think the retroactive immunity clause (gee, why did they need that?) argue it's irrelevant, since the whole act should be thrown out on constitutionality grounds. - Mariachi94, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hopefully Congress will assign a special prosecutor to investigate this. Aren't the investigations about the illegal wiretapping as well?
- cryptoki, on 02/01/2008, -0/+2My bad.. thats what i get for late night posting at 2am.... zzzzzzzz! Ben Franklin... right.
- Babykitkat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4David Griffin: Spread INSIDE JOB in Public Sphere to Prevent New 9/11
http://www.911blogger.com/ - bigturns, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Though we all share the same hope (that 9/11 was in fact perpetrated by a foreign entity), the possibility that 9/11 was a False Flag incident carried out by individuals wishing to re-shape the American way of life is real. Further, if such a shadowy group was responsible for 9/11 wouldn't it also follow, given the dreary times faced by W’s administration, that the same group would use similar tactics to return public opinion safely under it's arms?
This isn’t to say I believe 9/11 was an inside job. Rather my opinion is that such is thing is certainly within the ‘realm of all things possible’. - elhaf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The only way Cheney is "running" for President is if he's running away from the bomb he just planted under the President's desk.
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You are a talking-point spewing moron. Bush did the same at the beginning of his term. This is mid-term removals of appointees by the same president we're talking about.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4How many accounts have you had so far? 3? 4? I notice you've toned down your trolling rhetoric somewhat. PWNED much?
- BugZ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Perhaps we should take up a collection to pay for a skywritter to paint the DC sky with "Worst Prez Ever" or "Impeach". That might generate a buzz. :)
- jeremiah77769, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29/11 Was an inside job people... Its sad but true, we can't keep looking past the boatloads of evidence. If we are ever to take our country back from this cabal of neoconservative warmongers we have to at least be open to the fact that it IS possible that we have been misled for a long time...
