- Baskins, on 01/10/2009, -9/+209It's painfully obvious that the White House's metric of "success" for their *Global* war on terror is based exclusively on how many deaths occur on American soil. This pretty much exemplifies Bush's refusal to acknowledge the *increase* in global hate for America during his term.
I truly am tired of this man. - Alheithinn, on 01/10/2009, -11/+197Typical denial of reality and facts by the Bush Administration, and no less offensive than everything else we've seen out of them. We need some war crimes trials and we need them soon. The subpoenas should be ready to be handed out as they file out of the White House.
- MiddleAmerica, on 01/10/2009, -28/+178
One thing I'm tired of is everyone calling them the "Bush Administration".
We should be calling it the Republican Administration, because Bush didn't invent their policies or tactics, the Republican think tanks & Republican administrators are who came up with theses disastrous policies.
Calling it the "Bush Administration" is misleading, gives him undue credit, & makes people think that Republicans do not still support these failed policies, which they do. As an example they still want to be able to kidnap, hold people without charge or attorneys, torture them, search their homes without warrants, wiretap without warrants, give tax cuts to the wealthy, deny science, pollute for profit, etc, etc, etc.
Nor have the Republicans admitted much of any failures, & at best want to pass the buck, in some cases back to Clinton, Carter, & FDR!
This is a Republican Administration, Bush was just the puppet for their ideologies & policies.
We should never forget that.
- MsLaurel, on 01/11/2009, -12/+112P.S. There were no terrorists in Iraq and no WMD. Bush picked a fight with Saddam Hussein that made Muslims who never knew they hated us --hate us. Al-Queda has been recruiting ever since.
- UKLooney, on 01/11/2009, -5/+62Obviously the war on terror has been a success. Haven't you seen Halliburtons share price?
- MsLaurel, on 01/11/2009, -6/+62FTA:
"The government’s own figures, put out by the National Counterterrorism Center but going back only to 2004, show an increase in 2007 [and ''05 and '06]:"
For 7 years, I've been calling it "The Orwellian Presidency," because of things like this:
The Environmental Protection Agency has become The Environmental Pollution Agency.
The Bureau of Land Management has become The Bureau of Land Manglement.
Up is Down, etc. - Spor, on 01/10/2009, -2/+48And it's clear that isn't going to happen. Not a single person is going to be held accountable.
What I want to see clearly defined is why. Why can these high power individuals perform complete atrocities and not even be threatened with legal ramifications? Yet, if you or I combine to many of the wrong words in an email we have the FBI adding us to terror watch lists. - Tangaroa, on 01/11/2009, -6/+50He considers it a success because the increase in terrorism is happening overseas where the lazy media won't notice it and the lazy public won't care.
- smacksaw, on 01/11/2009, -11/+50"That lasted a little over two years. Funding was withdrawn from the project on March 31, 2008, probably because people like me were using the analytical tools on the site to produce embarrassing graphs like the one above."

Congratulations Bush Administration. Is there anyone you don't give ammunition to? - inactive, on 01/11/2009, -6/+43I find it ironic that the United States is trying to lower combat terror, when they can hardly even control their own crime rate. As the unemployment rate has risen, so has the crime rate.
- lolwaffle, on 01/11/2009, -12/+48The Democrats voted for the war too, and keep the funding going. Same with the patriot act and lots of other shady stuff. So it would be misleading to name the ***** we're in after only one party. The two parties are more alike than they differ. Naming it after Bush is mostly symbolic, as he was the president in the time frame.
- masturbator, on 01/11/2009, -3/+39Mission Accomplished!

- Stormwern, on 01/10/2009, -14/+44Let's never elect the stupid guy again..
- LenBaird, on 01/11/2009, -3/+27They have definitely accomplished their goal. They just won't publicly admit what that goal was. Since I am not psychic, I will just piece it together how I see it:
1.Crack down on individual liberty in the United States-check
2.Steal money and funnel it to their contractor buddies-check
3.Create turbulence which allows them to do more of 1 and 2 in the future-check - AmazingSteve, on 01/11/2009, -2/+26He wasn't elected.
- inactive, on 01/10/2009, -16/+40it's ((neocon)), lest I remind you of ron paul ,peter shiff ect, ect,
- bsmang, on 01/11/2009, -1/+24"Kill'em all"? Which left was that? Going after Afghanistan/Taliban/bin Laden was OK. We had a beef with them. Attacking Iraq was the problem. Almost every intelligent person everywhere did a facepalm the very moment that started. I know I did. My exact words as I sat at my desk in bldg 9 at GE were "Omg, what a ***** retard..." And everything Bush has done since has pretty much reinforced that. It even still gets reinforced once in a while when a brain-dead troll like yourself comes on the ol' interwebs to defend his slimy ass.
- tr909, on 01/11/2009, -0/+23Bush admin is taking credit for success in the war on terrorism. So the article is pointing to the evidence that the war on terrorism has not only failed but possibly backfired.
NOT claiming that the US is responsible for all terrorism. - t4m5t3r, on 01/11/2009, -3/+25the truth is if you go through and look at the dates of every major terror attack since 911 (including 911), you'll see that EVERY one happens around about the time the US, UK and some other western countries are trying to pass very unpopular laws, usualy the ones that take away our rights.
I know that wont be popular with the lemmings that like shouting about "conspiracy theories" but its fact, check it out for yourselves!! - TheSkunkMonkey, on 01/11/2009, -2/+23I've always found it rather interesting what happened the day after Donald Rumsfeld announced the Pentagon didn't know where 3 Trillion (Yes, that's a T) dollars in funds had gone.
For those that have forgotten, that statement was made Sept 10th, 2001. - smotpoker, on 01/11/2009, -0/+19@wolferz
I don't think the 'tinfoil hat' people are at all to blame. The way I see it, the government and corporations have been screwing and deceiving the American people for decades. The tinfoil-hatters are as much victims of this deceit as anyone else and have no idea what to believe either. The main difference between them and everyone else is not just level of apathy but willingness to objectively analyze all possibilities and evidence.
Most people are raised to respect and trust certain people no matter what and many maintain that respect/trust regardless of circumstances. As soon as someone questions the statements of a respected/trusted individual, most people immediately dismiss and ignore everything else that questioner says - especially if their demeanor completely fit the mold of a "respectable" individual.
Tinfoil-hatters were and are right about a lot of things. It is our own arrogance that prevents so many people from realizing the truth just because those who present it possess a few superficial eccentricities or views that slightly oppose your own.
I've never heard a tinfoil-hatter says Bush & co. started the wars "just because they could" or even imply that. Not knowing a specific answer or not having evidence to support one is not the same as saying it doesn't exist. The idea that their theories should be dismissed entirely because a few aspects of it aren't completely clear and then refusing to give it any further consideration isn't their fault. - jellygraph, on 01/11/2009, -2/+20The Bush presidency was a complete failure, in terms of things they promised to do. Whether they ever actually intended to do what they claimed they would, that's another matter. I don't believe Bush and his administration actually cares about reducing global terrorism.
- Apokalyps2547, on 01/11/2009, -0/+17"Have you heard of ANY terrorist attacks since 9/11 against Americans?"
Yes.
The Anthrax mailings at home, attacks on Hotels which cater to Westerners abroad, and many hundreds of US troops slain or wounded by IED traps. - jakereilly, on 01/11/2009, -1/+18mitch, next time you try to argue, try to keep from degrading into a rambling tirade that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
It could help to show you how stupid and inane your "arguments" really are.
Have a nice day. - algaeturd, on 01/11/2009, -3/+19Denial is a huge part of it but the American people are in just as much denial of the failure of this administration at every turn.
It's time to accept that the reason the United States has failed so much in the past 8 years is because Americans themselves have failed (and continue to do so). The average American is about as smart as a box of rocks these days.
Obviously, there are still lots of intelligent, informed Americans out there but they're vastly outnumbered by the uneducated masses.
These people steer the ship. They almost steered it into McCain and Palin (against the rocks).
Obama won by a thread compared to how he should have won.
But the idiots are still out there and they are in MASSES. It's disgusting how dumb these people can be; I've witnessed it on here many times, especially during the election and debates. These people won't be happy until the U.S. is no more. They call that patriotism? And then slit the throat of this nation by putting Bush in office for a second term or old man McCain and Palin at the highest posts in the land?
It's disturbing. Disturbing and disgusting.
Will we ever learn?
Hopefully, Obama will pull this off and then we'll see what's what. Not that republicans ever acknowledge THEIR failures or OHTERS' successes but it'll be on the record and that's all that matters. Kind of how the U.S. was in such an amazing state (on the record) when Bush entered the WH and how its currently on it's knees as he leaves. Interesting how facts are facts no matter what 'side' you're on. - Zlorp, on 01/11/2009, -1/+15sure thing, skeeter
- Observant1, on 01/11/2009, -0/+14or dick cheneys personal wealth going up some 3100% and him taking his personal wealth out of the USD over 2-1/2 years ago. it isnt insider trading abuse of position or treasonous no.. dick cheney is PSYCHIC !!
- DavidinBoston, on 01/11/2009, -2/+15When the truth began to roll in that Bush and co. had fit the "facts" around the policy, everyone knew enough to get off Bush's Bull ***** Train. Guess you don't read alot, sparky.
- inactive, on 01/11/2009, -2/+15Just have a look at anything mentioning Peter (or Dr. Paul) in my favorites. Schiff & Paul told us so, some of us didn't listen, now the economy's *****, and some neocons still don't want to admit the youtube-obvious.
- Baskins, on 01/11/2009, -2/+159/11 was a small group of radicals reacting to US' lifelong meddling in the middle east (read "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" if you want to understand how/where this comes from), and they were going to hit us as soon as they acquired the means to do so no matter who was in power at the time. But it's our *reaction* to that event that has unequivocally increased disdain for us on a global scale.
Ask any foreigner (and I work with a lot of them from all parts of the world), the US is bashed in far more circles abroad now than we were prior to Bush. And for those that say 'so what?', I'll redirect you back to that book again and remind you that the US business model cannot stand isolated in a bubble. - Delphium226, on 01/11/2009, -2/+15I find it interesting how the Bush administration shouts loudly about all the allies it has in the War On Terror.
However, it then wilfully ignores the numerous terrorist attacks that have taken place on allies' soil and boasts loudly to the faithful that 'No terrorist attacks have taken place on US soil! Mission Accomplished!'.
This is a slap in our allies faces. - mwolfzorn, on 01/11/2009, -1/+13We've had plenty of other terrorist events on our soil
Olympics (1996), Oklahoma City (1995), World Trade Center (1993)
It's not a new thing either
The Weathermen (1969-1975), Wall Street Bombing (1920), Los Angeles Times building (1910)
I'm not defending the guy, it's just that people only remember the biggest one. - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 01/11/2009, -4/+15Actually, their measure of success is in pure dollars and cents. And they and their grafting cronies have been VERY successful in that regard.
- FTWmovin2canada, on 01/11/2009, -2/+13So... then your point is that the life of an Iraqi is less important than that of an American?
I would have to disagree, and so would the 100,000+ Iraqis that have died thanks to the decisions of the current administration. - DangerCollie, on 01/11/2009, -0/+11It gets better. Now cash-strapped states are considering just turning loose a lot of prisoners because they don't have the money to keep them in jail.
Yeah, we'll be safe from the terrorists...while we're trapped in our own homes by an escalating crime rate here at home. - jakereilly, on 01/11/2009, -2/+13You can blame American interventionism, a (flawed) theory to which bush and the necons subscribe to.
terrorism doesn't just appear, no matter what those wacko neocons lead you to believe. - chesterogilvie, on 01/11/2009, -4/+15asgardshill and FKnight: Keep hiding behind that ***** reasoning. You people have no rebuttal to Ron Paul's ideas so you resort to attacks on his character. During the election season NPR was looking for Ron Paul supporters to call in. I called and asked why Obama was being considered the anti-war candidate when he continued to state that he would conduct strikes in Pakistan and simply move troops from Iraq to Afghanistan rather than sending them home. I told them that Ron Paul was the real anti-war candidate. They hung up on me and responded with "Ron Paul is a racist and I urge you to vote for somebody else". See? That's much easier than actually countering my assertion.
- Delphium226, on 01/11/2009, -0/+11@elmoslemur
"The goal was reduce terrorism to Americans and allies. This has been done."

- LenBaird, on 01/11/2009, -2/+11Terror is a fake enemy that they use to justify their other agenda points. I just read what you and I wrote, and noticed how odd it is that we are saying that "terror" is the enemy. It has no concrete meaning in this context, and thus it can be used to justify many different things, which is perfect if you are a corrupt government intent on raping, pillaging, and looting.

- DavidinBoston, on 01/11/2009, -3/+12Bush Ass-Licking Syndrome is also apparently rampant, in your case.
Take your Republican crazy ***** somewhere else. No one's buying it anymore. - edyang, on 01/11/2009, -0/+9Nancy Pelosi, the future leader of the Democrats in the House, and then a member of the House Intelligence Committee during Clinton, added her voice to the chorus:
"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons-of-mass-destruction technology, which is a threat to countries in the region, and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton agreed, speaking in October 2002:
"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical- and biological-weapons stock, his missile-delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al-Qaeda members."
Even more striking were the sentiments of Bush's opponents in his two campaigns for the presidency. Thus Al Gore in September 2002:
"We know that [Saddam] has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
And here is Mr. Gore again, in that same year:
"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter, and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
Now to John Kerry, also speaking in 2002:
"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force--if necessary--to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." - t4m5t3r, on 01/11/2009, -2/+11but the truth is that they are just the same as us, their just a couple of hundered years behind!! the only reason thats never mentioned is either because its not "PC" or they just dont want us to think that they are the same as us (makes people alot less concerned about the fact we've killed millions of them, innocent civilains or not)
everything happening in that religion has happened in christianity, woman being beaten and forced to cover up, as like i said, that was a good few hundered years ago, had our goverments not held these countries back so we could steal their natural resources its possible nothing like this would be happening today if the people where allowed to "evolve" technologically like the rest of us, but who knows!! (we didnt start stealing oil in iraq, we've ALWAYS "stole" the oil, we invaded iraq becasue saddam KNEW we where stealing the oil and was fixing to change that!! same reason iran became our enemy, around about the time the govt decided to stop selling its oil in dollars!!)
At the end of the day, we're all the same, it doesnt matter what you think or what you "know", we are all the same, we all laugh the same, cry the same, but its rarely mention because division is more convenient for those in power, keeps us fighting amongst ourselve and not paying attention to the real criminals in this world!! - Delphium226, on 01/11/2009, -1/+10As the story was based on 'The government’s own figures, put out by the National Counterterrorism Center but going back only to 2004, show an increase in 2007'
Then I guess you should be accusing the government of "Raw Lies or Raw Propaganda"
You *****. -
