- IrishJoe, on 10/29/2007, -2/+54Yeah, and all those "news report videos" sent by the Bush Administration to TV stations accross the country with actors playing the parts of reporters will stop, too. NOT.
- bobbybobington, on 10/29/2007, -1/+50White House press secretary Dana Perino assured reporters today that the staged news conference organized on Tuesday by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) would not happen again, and said the White House would never employ such tactics at its own press briefings. The reporters then proceeded to applaud the administration for it's honesty and character. Many babies were kissed. Latter topics at the news conference included the president's favorite color, and the more controversial issue of whether unicorns are better than my little ponies.
- SoupsMan, on 10/29/2007, -0/+40There was so much winking, that 8 members of the staff and reporters were hospitalized for eye related injuries, reports Rueters.
- notque, on 10/28/2007, -1/+36would never employ such tactics at it's own press briefings unless it's a gay male prostitute.
- mikelieman, on 10/28/2007, -0/+31Beyond the psyops angle, it's a CRIME to commit a fraud with the intent of depriving Congress of their oversight role, in violation of 18 USC 371.
"How come no-one's been ARRESTED?" is the real question. - SheilaNoya, on 10/28/2007, -1/+30Didn't the White House already promise to stop using fake reporters after we found out that they invited Jeff Gannon (Gay Male Prostitute) to be a member of the White House Press Corp? Even though he had a fake name and worked for a fake newspaper, they still gave him a security clearance, a press pass, and access to the White House, even on days when no press conferences were being held.
- chase001, on 10/29/2007, -3/+30It's official: The Mainstream Media is just the propaganda branch of Herr Bush and Herr Cheney's White House.

Truth and GOP just don't seem to get along. How long will this be tolerated? Vote the bums out in 2008. - SeethisPass, on 10/28/2007, -0/+24Here lies our government.
- HunterTV, on 10/28/2007, -1/+25"Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again!"
- kurtwinter, on 10/28/2007, -0/+23This has happened before, and the only regret is being caught. Propagandist fascism. If you don't see it, you are deluded.
- reeder, on 10/28/2007, -1/+23That was up there with her performance on the millions of "lost" emails.
- johnlandes, on 10/28/2007, -2/+21FEMA = national disaster
- sjl127, on 10/28/2007, -2/+21Why isn't this being dugg up quickly? Doesn't anyone see a problem with this? A government agency staging a phony conference to gain the trust of the masses? This is right out of the former USSR.
- john2kx, on 10/28/2007, -0/+14Not only does this routinely happen at White House press conferences, but the administration also makes sure that everyone attending Bush rallies is carefully screened and searched for anti-Bush protest material.
It's interesting that the very same administration is trying to promote "freedom" in Iraq. No wonder they want us out. - hiphoc, on 10/29/2007, -1/+14Can anyone say Jeff Gannon? The Whitehouse had huge staged press conference with planted questions during the run up of the Iraq war. PBS showed the video where Bush was winking and making inside jokes with people like David Gregory. Yea, I am sure this wont happen again. What about the billions spent on propaganda? The prepackaged videos sent with a script for your local news to read?
- inactive, on 10/28/2007, -0/+11"Politics is just the entertainment branch of industry" - Frank Zappa
- Azriel7, on 10/28/2007, -2/+13I was pretty sure this is against the law. Shouldn't they be arrested or something, at least an investigation. Oh wait, I forgot that we don't prosecute criminal behavior in the government anymore.
- jellygraph, on 10/28/2007, -0/+10Then she went on to say, "We do not torture. We will fire the person who leaked Plames name. There are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. They attack us because they hate our freedom."
- mikelieman, on 10/28/2007, -1/+11Well, they *ARE* owned by GE and Westinghouse and Disney, so perhaps the White House is the propaganda branch of the Weapons Dealers?
- bowens44, on 10/28/2007, -0/+9there is no issue so important or so unimportant that this administration won't lie about it. Never in the history of country have we had such a dishonest, anti-American , freedom hating bunch of thugs running out government. They even rival the Nixon administration
- jahurt, on 10/28/2007, -0/+9Let's see... a gay male prostitute makes dozens of visits to the White House for no apparent reason...
http://www.counterpunch.org/leupp05212005.html
If this had happened during the Clinton administration can you imagine the mock-outrage that would come from the right wing? - sjl127, on 10/27/2007, -0/+9That's a good question...
- JoeVet, on 10/28/2007, -0/+8Correction: FEMA + GOP = National disaster.
- cecinestpasvrai, on 10/28/2007, -0/+8http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Gannon
- lohphat, on 10/28/2007, -1/+8Paging Jeff Gannon, Mr. Gannon, paging Mr. Jeff Gannon...
- BingoPower, on 10/28/2007, -0/+7FEMA = Fake Emergency Message Association
- inactive, on 10/28/2007, -2/+9There's a revolution calling.......
- inactive, on 10/28/2007, -4/+11The republicans and bush want to take apart FEMA. they have gutted the agency and installed completely incompetent leaders aka "heckuva job brownie" the neocon agenda is to strip apart the government to make way for private companies. sending blackwater ***** to new orleans? next thing you know all of the things that make america a great place to live will be gone. the poor will be ***** even more than they are already and say goodbye to the middle class.
Thats why they ordered the fake news conference. Give FEMA a worse reputation then when they abolish it no one will mind. They are doing the same thing to the united nations.... - SillyDigger, on 10/28/2007, -0/+6Next time they'll just pay off real reporters to ask soft question :)
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -0/+6Oh, no. They're far and away much worse than the Nixon administration. Nixon at least had competent people working for him.
- krnldmp, on 10/28/2007, -0/+6Throw them out.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 10/28/2007, -0/+5So they plugged all the leaks and the whislteblowers have been sent to GitMo. Thank God we won't have to HEAR about propaganda again!
/end sarcasm.
How do you accidentally set up a phony press conference and fake reporters? Oops! How dumb do they think we are -- and please, no responses by NeoCons who are still in love with Boosh. - StMac, on 10/28/2007, -0/+5JEFF ***** GANNON!
- krnldmp, on 10/28/2007, -0/+5At least Clinton likes women.
- syroncoda, on 10/28/2007, -1/+5never do it again? lies. its a great idea and the whitehouse wishes they thought of it first.
- Jowsley, on 10/28/2007, -0/+4Mr. President,
Why are you so awesome?
Sincerely,
Jeff Gannon - spyd3rweb, on 10/28/2007, -0/+4Throw them in jail.
- Bdog2g2, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Well the burning question on my mind is whether the Care Bears and Rainbow Brites team are really terrorist organizations?
- MicrosoftBob, on 10/28/2007, -0/+4I'd rather see:
WHITE HOUSE: Fake presidential election won't happen again. - jonrc, on 10/28/2007, -1/+5Right. Because the White House press secretary never lies.
- tomis, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3The American government, just like a 4 year old, only apologizes once they know they've been caught and a swat on the ass is coming. Before that it's always "I didn't do it!"
- JoeVet, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3They did. Fake news releases ruled illegal propaganda by the GAO but still defended by GOP in 2003.
- totorototoro, on 10/28/2007, -2/+5Oh yeah, thats reassuring. :p
- Acewrap, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3So, the private sector can provide security, housing, and all sorts of emergency relief with no coordination from the govt. You must live in a dream world, or never worked for a corporation.
- whorelock, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3Yeah, trying to pull the wool over our eyes.
- spacecoyote1966, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3Yep. Its part of the "drown the government in a bathtub" plan the neocons have implemented.
