- Menso, on 10/11/2007, -8/+158Leave it to the White House to use Real Player to play their videos.
Evil bastards. - skytoucher, on 10/11/2007, -19/+167You see, the internet really is self-regulating. The White House just got 'checked'.
- Matt73, on 10/11/2007, -17/+103I have not yet seen an original video that actually SHOWS the banner above him during the speech (yes, the banner was there, I'm not arguing that). In the video here, the view that shows the banner is from a different camera angle; I'm not convinced the banner would be visible as the author portrays. Look at the background behind him, look at the features there and they're just not even close to lining up. Don't get me wrong, I'm anti-Bush all the way, but we can't play the same game as he. If we're going to make an accusation, it's gotta be well-founded and backed up by evidence.
- s14sh3r, on 10/11/2007, -13/+58I have to install Realplayer to watch this? No thanks.
- siszam, on 10/11/2007, -20/+65Where the hell has submitter been? This "news" is at least a year old. Keep up.
- birch25, on 10/11/2007, -1/+43the top related video on youtube is of the original version and it shows that the black bar on the bottom really is just covering up the bottom of the screen. you can't see the mission accomplished at all.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFijzDyJnVE - PiGuy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+44Uh. Maybe you should look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFijzDyJnVE
The same video without the black bar, and guess what, no "Mission Accomplished" banner there either. They just blacked out the top of the podium. - mighty_mouth, on 10/11/2007, -6/+46You're going to look really stupid when this hits the front page.
- reduxthree, on 10/11/2007, -7/+41This has been previously posted (a year ago) and refuted:

Just saying objectively. - Protonz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+37This is old. Look at the other videos on that site, they all have the black bar on the bottom.
This is just a typical conspiracy theory. Give out the facts that support your 'theory' and conceal those which don't. - neszis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31The angle on the picture that you can see "Mission Accomplished" is significantly lower than the angle of the video. The black bar is a result of cropping out microphones. There is no way that you'd see the banner even if it were cropped, the angle's all wrong. This guy needs to learn a bit more about cinematography before making those kinds of accusations.
- stevesearer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+26Here is a picture that shows a larger view of that scene. You can see that the mission accomplished banner is located very high up the aircraft carrier's tower. It's pretty obvious that there is no possible way the mission accomplished banner could have been seen in the video.

I would have thought the author of this video would have done a bit more research before coming to such a conclusion. - mighty_mouth, on 10/11/2007, -12/+35Direct link to the edited video:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/05/20030501-15.v.html - CourtesyFlush, on 10/11/2007, -3/+25And still it's being dugg.
It's official!
The Digg Mob is dumb as hell and oblivious to reality. - carpespasm, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24requires realplayer, sucks.
- TubaTechno, on 10/11/2007, -6/+25And this has been debunked the first time.
I will probably be buried for this but the white house probably got their feed from a network. Which means it had to cut out the bottom scrollers. Original video:

You diggers are pathetic. - ez12a, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18Wow...did no one bother to look up google video? Or did you guys just want to look smart and blow crap out your ass.
Here's the original: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=601410647838268753&q=mission+accomplished&total=699&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=2
NO BANNER EITHER. You see more of the lectern without the black bar in the way. The video originally posted at the top was made by a sensationalist. "Woah! a black bar! Conclusive evidence in of itself!!" - ccrook, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21More like the submitter and the author of this video got checked. It's been proven a hoax and doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize the camera angles are different.
- ElusiveByte, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21I agree. He's comparing a video with a still photograph. Maybe it was shot in HDTV and the black bar is an artifact of sloppy video editing by an intern. It is government work after all. Until you 1984 conspiracy theorists show us the original video, you have no proof it was edited.
If the person who "edited" this video knew how to crop it using software, wouldn't you think they might also be smart enough to adjust the aspect ratio (ratio of video width to height) and eliminate the black bar? It's not like he was editing VHS tape. Videos files don't have a set aspect ratio. It can be whatever you choose.
I find it much more likely that some White House lackey doesn't know how to edit video at all, and used some "Video Tape to Real Video Converter" he downloaded from the internet and didn't even know to look at the settings for aspect ratio.
I don't see why the shaming of the government it's so attractive to some people that they would throw common sense to the wind and not even demand seeing the original before believing the claims of this YouTube "whistle blower". - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+17the original is no different. buried.
- diablo75, on 10/11/2007, -6/+21Sorry, as funny as I myself would think it be for the whitehouse to stoop that far and think nobody would notice (ha ha, the Internet.....it's new!), they didn't intentionally edit out the banner. That black bar is there to cover up the lower third graphics that were present on the video feed, likely removed to avoid litigation.
- insomniac8400, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Real Player? I feel dirty. Very very dirty.
- EmperorAwesome, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15***** realplayer.
- mrdeathgod, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15How about you show the original VIDEO and then compare any changes to THAT...
- wellado, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15Here's a rough perspective analysis. Feel free to digg down if you want to keep your head in the sand.

http://digg.com/politics/VIDEO_White_House_Caught_Doctoring_Mission_Accomplished_Video - CourtesyFlush, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Digg needs to make the "Buried as inaccurate" button far more effective. This sort of intellectual dimness does nothing for the site's reputation at all.
If several hundred well established diggers report an article as inaccurate, then it should be buried regardless of how many fringe kiddies digg it.
Digg should also keep track of WHO diggs inaccurate, outdated tripe the most and cut them from the herd.
At this point, I'm seriously considering blocking the whole "dugg/blogged this" list for being idiots. - aristoxenus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Wake up you guys -- as a small minority of the comments have noted, the McIntee interpretation is wrong. Look at the images that actually show the banner. It's much higher up the tower than would have been visible were the video shifted down the way he describes.
Don't make fools of yourselves in front of the Bush supporters the way McIntee has. He should take that down, or at least revise his comments to note his error without being accused of altering history himself. - gonegoogling, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12mike mcintee is a liar, and his video has been exposed as a hoax. but he is still too stupid to take the vid down
- ccrook, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11You should be forced to click through the comments before digging a story, because people are still blindly digging this reeking turd of a post.
- tehbored, on 10/11/2007, -9/+19So has the construction of Minitruth officially begun yet?
- chrisoconnell, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11Did the submitter or the person in the linked video even watch the original? If they had, we wouldn't have wasted our time here.
- Dr.Finger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11This was debunked months ago.
- samdu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10That is so obviously a different camera angle that it's not even funny. I don't doubt that the White House WOULD do such a thing, but this isn't evidence that they did that at all.
- millertime588, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Please stop digging this story, its only missing the podium not that dumb ass banner that's up much higher.
- thcobbs, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Isn't that bar the place where new agencies place their scroll?
- CourtesyFlush, on 10/11/2007, -6/+14How ***** stupid are you?
Here is the original video and there is NO banner missing.

Dumb asses should shut the hell up. - ZPWeeks, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFijzDyJnVE&mode=related&search=
We're wrong on this one. - macijuana, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9In case you haven't already noticed, the broad majority of digg's user base isn't exactly "mainstream" in the context you're using it. We like the small, but hilarious, quarks. Things that the mainstream media doesn't see as real news.
- VeganG, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Wow, Real Player is still around?
- TubaTechno, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8You're asking diggers to give you "facts"? good luck...
- 450bigblock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Exactly. There's no difference between the diggbrats and the you tubers.
- rspeed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Exactly, there's no way the banner could have possibly been in the shot. Someone also pointed out the fact that all of the videos on the Whitehouse web site have that black bar, not just the video of that speech. This guy obviously did no research and is obligated to post a correction to his video immediately.
- Iconwolf, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7There are certainly a long enough list of legitimate grievances against the Bush Admininistration without resorting to the same outright distortions of the truth they use. This whole blame Bush for anything and everything gets a little weary after a while, and detracts significantly from his "real crimes". Sort of the Boy Who Cried Wolf Syndrome. Next thing you know, we''l have a story about how all these false claims are actually being propagated BY the Bush Administration itself to throw people off the real scent.
- rspeed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6To everyone who dugg this without even thinking: get the hell of my internet.
- stepnw1f, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10Actually, you are one of the dumbest aspects of digg. At least you play dumb on a consistent basis. I bet you even buy your own *****. How's Abramoff feeling these days?
- spambutcher, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I wouldn't put this kind of thing beyond the Bush administration - but this would seem to be *****:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkRHki5P6fc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFijzDyJnVE
The sad part is that 95% of diggers probably now think it is true. - FishPoisonCon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5the irony of this is that on the same page is a link to a clip from Fahrenheit 9/11 that proves this isn't the case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4odmtUBtfeU (@ approx :50)
it's just a different angle - actorboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I'm no fan of Bush, but msipes is correct on this.
- rspeed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Wow, heliox. Maybe you should read his comment again. Talk about making a fool of yourself...
