International. All the European newspapers are carrying the story today. Some as a headline.
Sorry, Sarah. You are soooooo finished it ain´t funny. Yup. - inactive, on 10/11/2008, -7/+172I think we've had enough abuse of power from our current VP.
- lkrr, on 10/11/2008, -4/+126You forgot to mention: that quote is from the McCain-Palin statement.
- Echota, on 01/05/2009, -8/+96Well now we know how Sarah Palin uses her Executive Power!
Now we know what Palins' skills amount to!
Palin and he executive skills aren't $h!t!
It's More of the Same Abuse of Power....just like Bush!
Obama/Biden 08! - voxlisa999, on 10/11/2008, -4/+84She is the ultimate example of the old politics of cronyism and using elected office for personal vendettas. Cheney outed an undercover CIA agent to "get back" at someone who printed something he didn't like; can you imagine what Palin might do it given the chance? Let's hope we never find out. Send this woman back to Alaska!
- cmootoo, on 10/11/2008, -4/+79And the Legislative Council has 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats. The voting was unanimous.
- apastafarian, on 10/11/2008, -4/+71So Sarah's interpretation of Maverick is amateurishly vindictive?
- paintgrl, on 10/11/2008, -5/+58Not a Maverick but a fat cat.
FTA: harsh verdict? Consider the report's findings. Not only did people at almost every level of the Palin administration engage in repeated inappropriate contact with Walt Monegan and other high-ranking officials at the Department of Public Safety, but Monegan and his peers constantly warned these Palin disciples that the contact was inappropriate and probably unlawful. Still, the emails and calls continued — in at least one instance on recorded state trooper phone lines.
The state's head of personnel, Annette Kreitzer, called Monegan and had to be warned that personnel issues were confidential. The state's attorney general, Talis Colberg, called Monegan and had to be reminded that the call was putting both men in legal jeopardy, should Wooten decide to sue. The governor's chief of staff met with Monegan and had to be reminded by Monegan that, "This conversation is discoverable ... You don't want Wooten to own your house, do you?"
Monegan consistently emerges as the adult in these conversations, while the Palin camp displays a childish impetuousness and sense of entitlement.
One telling exchange: Deputy Commissioner John Glass, who worked under Monegan, told Branchflower he was "livid" after a Palin staffer, Frank Bailey, went outside the chain of command and called a state trooper in far-off Ketchikan to complain about Wooten. Why had Bailey called the trooper? Because, Bailey said, this trooper had gone to church with Sarah Palin back in Wasilla, so he felt "comfortable" talking to him about Wooten. Glass, too, tried to sound the warning that continuing to pressure anyone and everyone in the matter would end in "an unbelievable amount of embarrassment for the Governor and everybody else". - mikelieman, on 10/11/2008, -4/+53You should have cited your source of the cut/paste there.
e.g.: This is from the actual report filed:
"Finding Number One
For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) provides
The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust."
So, Sarah Palin is OFFICIALLY UNTRUSTWORTHY.
Suck It. - bongfarmer, on 10/11/2008, -4/+49Wow, what must Obama be thinking? He just getting handed gifts! wakes up every morning and smiles when he opens the newspapers.
might be a small side of disappointment for a smart guy like him too, I bet he was mentally gearing up for an epic generational election, not having his opposition show up. Its like going into a custody battle, spending all month preparing an awesome case, and then your ex shows up 20 minutes late, reeking of alcohol and stumbling around drunk, insults the judge, and their new girlfriend was arrested for dealing meth a month ago - crissy635, on 10/11/2008, -4/+46Is this really surprising to anyone? John McCain knew about this little scandal prior to choosing Sara Palin as his running mate.

Violation of the Public Trust. Sarah Palin is deceitful and shamefully corrupt. We suspected it before, but now it is clear: Palin has no business running for one of the highest offices of this nation, a heartbeat from the Presidency. No business whatsoever. Shame on McCain, that pandering old fool – what a poorly vetted choice. Whether or not Palin steps down from the ticket at this point is irrelevant. Voters will speak soon enough. - Dreamzville, on 10/11/2008, -5/+27Ridgeliner7...it's OK, we know the truth. You don't have to defend her anymore. If I were you, I'd feel pretty relieved! :)

- shadoturtl, on 10/12/2008, -2/+18all this for a guy who was just trying to save the cheerleader.
- blackrich, on 10/11/2008, -4/+19Hey, look at it from her point of view. How could she possibly have known how hard this was going to come back and bite her in the ass? Even she isn't crazy enough to have ever thought that she might someday become the VP. I mean, that's just totally absurd.
- DangerCollie, on 10/12/2008, -0/+13At least Cheney wasn't a ham-handed amateur. He deserves to burn in hell for getting over 4,000 of our guys killed, undermining the Constitution and looting the treasury but he wasn't a twit. Palin's kids would be out riding 4 wheelers on the South Lawn.
- Keggluneq, on 10/12/2008, -1/+14Ironically, Mike Wooten and Walt Monegan will wind up owning Alaska as a result of Palin's sophomoric and petty feud. They'll lawyer-up and sue the smug smirk off her face. Karma comes back atcha, dontcha know!
- Cannonballkid, on 10/12/2008, -3/+16Holy ***** this trooper guy looks like Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg) from Heroes! Look at the resemblance

- Amanra, on 10/12/2008, -5/+17Let me see: abuse of power, can't form a proper sentence when speaking, and is certain as heck that she is right in her no-blinking decision-making. I think Jon Stewart has it right: Palin is She-Bush.
- IphtashuFitz, on 10/12/2008, -4/+16Oh give it a rest. Do you actually know anything about the tasering incident or are you a complete moron because you actually think nobody else knows the details? Wooten's stepson specifically ASKED to be tasered "to see what its like". Wooten made sure it was done in a safe environment and in the standard manner that tests are done with tasers. According to Taser International, when performed this way it doesn't feel like anything more than somebody banging their funny bone. The kid himself told investigators that it felt "pretty cool" and wanted it done a second time.
So how exactly is he a "poor kid" and this was a case of child torture? - caseflipped, on 10/12/2008, -5/+17I don't want to pile on or anything, but could someone please tell me a legitimate good thing that Sarah Palin has accomplished? I'm not a conservative, but picking her instead of Pawlenty or Romney just mystifies me as an outsider.
- rhythm7a, on 10/12/2008, -5/+17She could learn a lot from Cheney. Maybe he'll invite her on a hunting trip.
- 0011002, on 10/12/2008, -0/+12Like? Please anything but Ayers, we can tie Todd and Sarah to their own anti-American group, with a link to a factually proven article.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2008, -0/+11Given that the Constitution Party is run by a bunch of theocratic-leaning conspiracy theorists, I think I'll give them a pass, thanks.
- zestyhedgehog, on 10/12/2008, -5/+16"In the run-up to Alaska's 2008 Police Memorial Day event, Monegan visited Palin in Anchorage and brought along an official portrait of a state trooper in uniform, saluting in front of the police memorial in Anchorage, for Palin to sign and present at the event. The trooper? Mike Wooten."
That's a one ***** bold "in your face, Sara" move. Mr. Monegan, you're the man! - DrNovacaine, on 10/12/2008, -1/+12Pew, pew!
- rstarr, on 10/12/2008, -1/+12Is that...is that Parkman?
- angryfirelord, on 10/12/2008, -1/+11It's true! Sean Hannity told me so!
- teebird, on 10/12/2008, -1/+10You don't choose a running mate in a national election as a "joke." Sarah Palin was a strategic choice for Sen. McCain as Sen. Biden was for Sen Obama.
Having been mayor of a town of 9000 and governor for a half term doesn't mean a person is qualified to understand and deal with national policy. Also, Obama has done more than "vote "present" on just about everything presented to him." If you bothered to look up his voting record, you'd know better. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
It isn't enough to have opinions. You also need to have a clue. - Disgod, on 10/12/2008, -3/+12"Troopergate's final verdict may be even more damaging than a rebuke: her administration was, at least this regard, just as self-motivated as the Washington fat cats and lobbyists she hopes to unseat."
Someone actually believes that she wants to get rid of the "fat cats and lobbyists"? That makes me laugh. No she wants to get rid of those horrid alternative energy lobbyists, the pro-choice lobbyists, the anti-petroleum lobbyists, etc. You know the ones that are actually trying to help America. - paulg2000, on 10/12/2008, -5/+14Holy *****, I thought Parkman was in Africa?
- redlantern64, on 10/12/2008, -4/+13I never knew her brother in law was the actor who plays the mind reader on Heroes.
- starfisch, on 10/12/2008, -4/+12Who else thought the photo was of Parkman from Heroes?
- senseofit, on 10/12/2008, -0/+8There is a lot of arguments back and forth about this investigation.
While in my opinion I don't believe that the McCain campaign vetted Governor Palin properly, they did acknowledge that they knew that this investigation was taking place when she was selected for the VP role. In doing so, they apparantly knew the political risks that they were taking. I do not feel that this was a political ploy on behalf of the Democrats. The committee that conducted this investigation consisted of 10 Republicans and only 4 Democrats.
It was made very clear that Governor Palin did not break any laws in a legal sense. However, it was also made clear that she made violations of the state ethics codes, which is not positive.
I am voting for Barack Obama. I do feel that Senator McCain had far better choices for a female running mate. These choices would have provided him with someone who would have been more diplomatic and less divisive. Michelle Bachman from Minnessota is a seasoned Senator. There is Elizabeth Dole. There is also Kay Bailey Hutchinson, to just name a few.
In the political arena you have to carefully vet and screen your running mate just as you would someone applying for a job. Senator McCain had only met Governor Palin once before selecting her for ticket, six months prior to the convention.
I am not seeing much of a direction coming from the McCain campaign. I see attacks that are distracting from the issues. Everytime I see a McCain campaign ad, all it does is give mis-leading attacks but no offers of what we want to hear in the way of what a McCain/Palin administration can convince me that they will do. Anything I have heard from them has either been vague, in-accurate, or contradictory. Barack Obama has clearly and effectively stated the facts and a better set of plans. Neither John McCain or Sarah Palin have yet responded to the fact that they will tax health benefits, social security, or medicare. Neither one has answered that question. Today Sarah Palin was quoted as saying that the commission found there were no legal or ethics violations. That contradicts what we just heard in terms of the ethics violations.
I strongly dis-agree with Governor Palin on the issue of sex education. In stating my opinion, I am not pointing to her personal situation with her daughter, but because it is needed. I want to explain that. Barack Obama did not suggest that it be offered at an elementary 6th grade level as the GOP suggested. I know from personal experience that it is effective when taught at an early high school level. In today's world, our leaders of tommorow, the youth and future of today need to be educated and informed of the risks and consequences involved if they engage in particular behaviors. They need to be made aware of the dangers of HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis B and C, and other sexually transmitted diseases. In my opinion, it would serve as a great help in making it an educational tool to let them know of the potential educational and economic consequences of teenage pregnancies and the impact it has on those factors. They need to know these things for their protection. When I was in high school, we had sex education in lieu of physical education for one quarter during our freshman year. If any teenager benefits in a positive manner from this, if we have reached someone, somehow, then we have made a difference. There is nothing immoral or shameful about this. For those who are pro-life, I feel that this would be a positive, because of the fact that it would help discourage teenagers from engaging in risky behaviors that could be detrimental to their health. To me part of being pro-life, is not just about opposing abortions, but respecting life all across the board, whether it is supporting healthcare for everyone, opposing taxes on healthcare benefits, voicing that it is important that there should never be any child who goes to bed hungry tonight in this country, there should never be any elderly person who has to decide whether they should spend the $50 on groceries for the week or use it to pay for the medications that they need, and all across the board. I want something that is for the people and someone who is for the people. - ironhide, on 10/12/2008, -3/+11Even if all you say is true, it was a clear conflict of interest for Palin. There is no grey area there.
