- dreamtiger, on 04/17/2009, -7/+178You know how the Government is. It's all paperwork. I read the torture memos yesterday. When you read them, you almost think, "Well, maybe that's not *real* torture after all." But that is just the paperwork they thought would cover their asses. It is the paper justification for an unholy regimen of physical and psychological torture that was visited upon more than a few, in varying degrees, and mostly upon innocents. What is written on those papers is only the tip of the iceberg. Those techiques were used in combination, and over time, and against a background of darkness, deafening sound, extremes of temperature, etc, etc. Obama is wrong to say we need to let this go, and only look forward. In the Nuremberg Trials, the defense, "I was only following orders," was considered insufficient. And even if we let the goons slide, because they were only following orders, what about the men who gave those orders? What about the men who provided the legal justifications for the Torture State? What about Bybee, Yoo, Rumsfeld, Cheney, & The Chimp? These guys need to go to jail, not skate.
- iancgi, on 04/17/2009, -6/+125No how about both left and right wingers moves. Obama just announced yesterday he wont be investigating torture such as this. He is condoning the use of sick sadistic torture and not holding anyone accountable. He is knowingly not prosecuting corruption within the CIA and all the way up to the white house. He is leaving the corrupt in power, where do you think this leads? Why do you think we are where we are today? Look at the past of this country none of these real criminals have been held accountable.
- ChristPissed, on 04/17/2009, -21/+124The neocons should be tried and hung by the neck until dead.
If that was good enough for Saddam, it will be good enough for them. - jeni7904, on 04/17/2009, -5/+104wow
- richmomz, on 04/18/2009, -6/+95We're not even talking young adults here, but actual CHILDREN.
- richmomz, on 04/18/2009, -1/+84"Take care when fighting monsters, lest you become one yourself." -Nietzsche
- richmomz, on 04/18/2009, -3/+69Partisan politics has nothing to do with this - this is just plain sick.
- Apokalyps2547, on 04/17/2009, -59/+117Completely indefensible. Your move, far-right-wingers.
- normlsparky, on 04/18/2009, -6/+60This is complete *****. There is no moral or legal justification for torturing people. The fact that these techniques were extended to children as young as seven is ***** outrageous. Those responsible should face a firing squad.
I'm really getting tired of people on the left justifying Obama's lack of action on this, so that he may achieve certain political victories. If you were pissed off about Bush doing this, and are now justifying Obama's lack of action for political gain, you are a piss poor excuse for a human being. - inactive, on 04/17/2009, -56/+110How many sheeple still believe Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was the "mastermind" behind 9/11???
Wake-up already!!! - ciaran036, on 04/17/2009, -4/+46Shocking. Remember too, a little white back it was reported that Guantanamo detainees were as young as 15 years of age, and had also been tortured?
- inactive, on 04/18/2009, -3/+43I dont see why your all suprised, im sure there a lot worst that isnt being told.
- GovernmentSp00k, on 04/18/2009, -5/+41If Chimp inc. & his gang of psychopathic sociopaths and war profiteers don't get tried and prosecuted for their crimes, for the mass murder of millions of people, over 4500 US troops killed and some 4 million homeless refugees displaced on lies over a nation that posed NO credible threat to the USA whatsoever, for the rape of our American Constitution, the destruction of our freedoms, privacy rights, civil liberties and country, somebody owes Hitler a BIG ***** apology.
- mediumofmeaning, on 09/08/2009, -13/+46you're assuming obama is left-wing. i don't know where that myth came from, but it sure is funny. he's a centrist at best, we're just stuck in a culture of such extreme conservatism that even a guy like obama can look "left." nevertheless, you're correct for calling obama out on the issue.
- shig, on 04/18/2009, -5/+34KSM signed a confession in 2007 in which he claimed responsibility for having planned a terrorist attack against Plaza Bank in WA.
The only problem with that is the bank wasn't founded until 2006... 3 years after his arrest. - Stormwern, on 04/18/2009, -0/+29Not what he said. And yes, torturing an adult is despicable, torturing a child is monstrous.
- Waiting2awake, on 04/18/2009, -5/+28crystal - this isn't a right or left thing - it is a government Vs the people thing. Your idea that people participating in the tea-bag protests are Bush supporters is grossly inaccurate. This tea bag protests started out being a libertarian thing remember?
Remember the libertarians protesting Bush along with the democrat supporters? Remember how we all walked, and chanted and spoke out against the wars? The spying? The torture and secret prisons? That wasted money?
Then Obama got elected, and all those things so many Democrats were against - now they are for. And defending Obama for them.
So I have to ask; What happened? Was it just that "your boy" was in that it was all good? And that makes democrats no different than the neo-cons before them.
The longer you hold on to the left-right illusion, the longer it is going to take to get the country back from the corporate interests. - iancgi, on 04/18/2009, -0/+21No you're right. it does not have nothing to do with partisan politics. My very crucial point however is that both sides are allowing this to go on.
- iancgi, on 04/17/2009, -6/+26he has already ***** up and lied multiple times, most recently 2 days ago when he announced he wont be seeking any investigation into torture and war crimes like these.
- crystalAinardi, on 04/17/2009, -19/+39I'll scream tell somebody is arrested. Hey tea baggers want to see a real protest? There will be one to arrest your pals Bush and gang.
- jugger74, on 04/18/2009, -5/+24WTF do you mean right wingers it is up to Obama to go after this inhumane crap and he already said he won't. If that is the case then he needs to hang from the same gallows as Bush and Cheney.
- GovernmentSp00k, on 04/18/2009, -23/+42LOL! Only a gullible FOOL would buy into such dumbed-down, **PNAC** fabricated comic book propaganda. First the mis-leaders and organized crime in power tell us it's their Bin Laden bogeyman. Then it's KSM. Who's next, Richard Simmons?
Look no further than who was responsible for over 2 trillion dollars missing from the Pentagon that was revealed days before 9/11..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcM42FVyy1A
Who benefits most from the 9/11 scam? Certainly isn't us....or "muslims".. - gopfan, on 04/18/2009, -11/+28Here we go, the "9/11 was an inside job" moonbats appear. Popular Science magazine and the History Channel both have debunked all claims made by these people. The History Channel spent over three hours last fall proving it was not an inside job.
- Waiting2awake, on 04/18/2009, -3/+18Bravo well said and so true. Both republican and democrat parties have abused the constituents for so long they are now more or less barely cheerleaders. Not sure the solution though, people seem so happy(lobotomized?) with the two party system.
- GovernmentSp00k, on 04/18/2009, -5/+20Don't forget to waterboard a few of the scumbags for posterity. And cover them with red fire ants, black widow spiders and tarantulas. Mere "enhanced interrogation techniques", of course. Nothing to do with torture!
It's not just the neo-CONS. Don't forget, "Con-gress" was in on it too, and COMPLICIT. They were completely asleep at the wheel the past 8 years letting Bush criminals get away with whatever they please, to no accountability. No Checks and Balances to speak of. And then there is the issue of inexcusable incompetence, no-bid cost/plus contracts, the use of illegal mercenaries who kill without accountability (and RAPE).
For Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, to outright REFUSE to hold investigation hearings, to refuse to impeach and prosecute these sociopaths/psychopaths is a VIOLATION OF HER OATH OF OFFICE....which, to millions of Americans, is COLLABORATION.
And the latest cult of personality front-man for the Corporation of the US, inc, the Obomba marionette outright refuses to go after the last administration for war crimes, torture crimes and high crimes and treason against the American people and our Constitution. He is frightened to prosecute Bush criminals and war profiteers. He doesn't want to touch the Criminals In Action. America was tricked, lied to and DECEIVED into murderous Middle East wars for profit. On fabricated "evidence" and hyped "grave threat".. Where are the Con-gressional investigations? War crimes trials? Where is the Federal "probe" into law breaking activities of the last administration? Obomba is silent. Silence is betrayal. He instead covers up their crimes. He is aiding and abetting criminal psychopaths and mass murderers. Obomba is already a war criminal. "Neo-CON lite" if there ever was.

/s - richmomz, on 04/18/2009, -3/+17There are times when the comments on Digg really make me sick - this is one of them.
- dirtpoorchris, on 04/17/2009, -12/+25All I go to say to Bush and his cronies.
Have a nice trip. See you next fall.
And don't ***** up and be a douche Obama. Be a good president please. - MWeather, on 04/18/2009, -2/+15Obama doesn't want to prosecute Bush for the same reason Ford didn't want to prosecute Nixon: it would consume their entire term.
And he's right. It would. But we need to show him that not prosecuting will do worse.
If I were Obama, I'd release so much info that the right would use my lack of action to attack me, assuming I really won't prosecute. Then once I had them where I wanted them, file charges and laugh as they try to reverse course and alienate their base who by that point would be for prosecution if for no other reason than Obama was against it. - Chompy, on 04/18/2009, -6/+19"At a military tribunal in 2007, a Gitmo detainee's father said Pakistani guards told his son that the US had used ants on young children"
So basically a detainee says that some Pakistani guards told him that we were torturing kids. It's hearsay based on hearsay, and both sources are potentially biased.
Nobody hates Bush than I do, and this certainly warrants investigation, but is critical thinking just dead and buried? - ElGubrush, on 04/18/2009, -2/+15How can we NOT prosecute them. I mean at what point does authorizing torture of children not get you life imprisonment?
- 1longtime, on 04/18/2009, -6/+18I have read/watched the "inside job" evidence, and I have read the official reports. The official reports made a helluva lot more sense. ...and more Occam's-Razor-friendly. Planes hit buildings, buildings fall down.
Please don't rehash evidence here, I'm just stating my opinion.
SIDE NOTE: 99% of the "Truthers" out there never even read the results of the 9/11 Commission anyway, so most of you aren't qualified to compare the evidence ("Zeitgesit" vs. "9/11 Commission Findings") and form an opinion. - Waiting2awake, on 04/18/2009, -3/+15Why? With respect, how much more does America need to suffer with peopling "believing" and "hope" and other such craziness. Look what they did in the past, and you will see what they will do in the future.
Both Republicans and Democrats, and their supporters, have lost the story. - ZZeke, on 04/18/2009, -4/+15You're talking about a spoiled little rich boy who has never had to face the consequences for any of his misdeeds, ever. He has lied and cheated his way through his entire life. The only reason he was in office was to hold the place for his daddy's neo-con buddies. This is the same guy who had the gall to laugh and joke about finding WMD's at a banquet, but only after tens of thousands of Iraqis and thousands of American soldiers lay dead. This is the guy who said "I wouldn't mind if the US was a dictatorship, as long as I'm the dictator". This is the guy who reportedly referred to the constitution as "a god-damn piece of paper" because it didn't allow him to just do whatever the hell he wanted to do. Those are just a few examples.
There is no conscience in there. This isn't the movie. You really need to take a closer look, and stop kidding yourself. - RuSTeDs, on 04/18/2009, -1/+12In Yoo's debate with Doug Cassel, the Notre Dame law professor asked: "If the president deems that he's got to torture somebody, including by crushing the testicles of the person's child, there is no law that can stop him?"
John Yoo: "No treaty."
Doug Cassel: "Also no law by Congress—that is what you wrote in the August 2002 memo [while Yoo was a Justice Department attorney]."
John Yoo: "I think it depends on why the president thinks he needs to do that."
Stomping on the testicles of detainee's kids to make the detainees talk? Why isnt Hague on these warcriminals??
http://www.villagevoice.com/2006-01-24/news/don-t- ... - Asianwaste, on 04/18/2009, -4/+15You're right if true, however:
"While an additional memo released Thursday claims that the torture with insects technique was never utilized by the CIA, the allegations regarding the children would have transpired when the method was authorized by the Bush Administration.
At a military tribunal in 2007, the father of a Guantanamo detainee alleged that Pakistani guards had confessed that American interrogators used ants to coerce the children of alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed into revealing their father’s whereabouts."
The source is at best iffy. - inactive, on 04/18/2009, -4/+15oh so doing it to adults is ok?
it shouldn't be done to anyone. - DivisibleByZero, on 04/18/2009, -10/+20Needs more proof than Pakistani guards telling a prisoner that they heard about it.
I mean, I won't outright dismiss the possibility. But it's also likely that they lied to scare the other kids into talking. - Stormwern, on 04/18/2009, -1/+11I assumed he ment "go ahead far right, try to defend this", which would be a valid comment since Limbaugh and others have been defending torture thus far.
- sciencelovesyou, on 04/18/2009, -2/+12Really? Cause I seem to recall that the largest act of terrorism on American soil occurred under a right-winger's watch.
- hatdrop, on 04/18/2009, -1/+11Nietzsche is ***** awesome, non sequitur, but this other quote of his is interesting when taken into contemporary context:
"No price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." - Duskraven, on 04/18/2009, -3/+13thats ***** disgusting - australia

Yes, keep saying I'm making it up. We "troofers" faked this DoD document, and war crimes tribunals... - dygel, on 04/18/2009, -4/+13In case you thought the fact that the US institutionalized torture couldn't get any uglier...
- richmomz, on 04/18/2009, -0/+9My comment was directed towards Apo, not yours (which I agree with).
- Duffle, on 04/18/2009, -2/+11I really ***** hate the word sheeple. Buried.
- mithrasinvictus, on 04/18/2009, -1/+10As long as an investigation remains off the table, accounts like this can be neither confirmed or denied.
- FiestyPumpkin, on 04/18/2009, -3/+12Child abuse, plain and simple. If a parent was caught doing this to their children, they would be arrested.
- Nintendesert, on 04/18/2009, -15/+23So someone's father heard it from someone else that someone else had done something to someone. Sounds like good sources to me.
