- washingtonydc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23The fact that people would attack what an author writes in his fiction as if they were his views is completely absurd and incredibly terrifying. Was Nabokov a pedophile because he wrote Lolita?
One reason I cannot get myself to vote republican is because it has become the anti-intellectual party. It rejects science and now literature. What happened to the days of intellectual conservatism, of William F. Buckley Jr? - Maaarrrk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21That was when he was a REPUBLICAN. Now he has reformed and become a Democrat.
Really he was describing some bizarre social custom in rural Asia. Those books have been best sellers for decades. You right wing types read them and loved them until the guy decided to turn Democrat and run against Allen after he saw how bad Allen is.
"Allen wanted to MAKE PEOPLE SUFFER" http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/08/16/gop-senator-george-allen_n_27382.html - CAJason80, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18@ karmatic
Re: calling everyone 'Michael J Fox' liberals....
you do, of course realize that Michael J. Fox produced almost exactly the same stem-cell ad for Arlen Specter in 2004, do you not?
Does that make Arlen Specter a crazy 'Michael J. Fox' liberal, despite the fact that he's, oh, I don't know, a freakin' Republican? Dragging Michael J. Fox's message into this article is even more disgusting. It's asinine, and furthermore, moronic.
Stop parroting Rush Limbaugh. You only make yourself look completely devoid of individual thought.
You claim to be an 'independent', but then immediately defuse that notion by very un-intelligenty calling the other side 'queers'.
Yeah, real indepedent. - tsf5000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15@karmatic
You're the last person that should be calling someone "an uneducated moron." You make no valid points, you just attack anyone who disagrees with you. Unfortunately, it seems neocons have nothing to offer but that approach. It doesn't look like we'll have to worry about that much longer though.
Oh, and I love the part about being a "Clintonite Michael J Fox minion." Classic. - successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Karm grow up, your incessant "but but but's" are childish. CAN you discuss the issue at hand? You know the message, and not the MESSENGER?
Of course not sheep... - successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11In a newspaper column in 2002, the year before Bush ordered the Iraq invasion, Webb wrote that a war there would destabilize the oil-rich Middle East and mire U.S. forces in a bloody and protracted conflict.--WEBB
Looks like Webb was correct here as well in THIS article we are talking of Karm...Got anything to say or shall we "libruls" point out more reality to you?
Perhaps we can give you quotes of flowers and chocolates Karm? Would you like that? - Bhima, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12This is news? This is like accusing the sun of producing heat & light.
- successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Then you will remain "stuck on stupid Karm. I'm a conservative, who served in the Military for 8 years, and a member of the NRA. Whoopy friggin dooo!
I'm an AMERICAN first, not a "party".
All your idiot ass has done since you came here is "shift" FROM the MESSAGE, to the MESSENGER.
THAT, is why you are dugg down. Try to keep up.... - XxXoldsaltXxX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11@karmatic
Terrorist acts are inevitable in our society. As soon as we let our guard down something will happen. But spending billions of dollars to go to war has nothing to do with that. - cheekybastard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@karmatic "dumbass Clintonite Michael J Fox minion" WTF? I'd rather be that than a Log Cabin fornicating Foleyite. Seriously, name calling doesn't get your point across, deconstruct your opponents argument instead of regurgitating talking points.
Iraq does not make us safer. Why?
1. regional instability
2. Iran's number one enemy is in prison
3. Al Queda's number one enemy in Iraq is in prison
4. training ground for Al Queda - tactics used there are now seen in Afghanistan and the Greater Middle East
5. North Korea and Iran are not afraid of us when we are bogged down in Iraq - really, do they look like they care? - thegreyfox, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12HOLY *****! Your answer is mind blowing!
YOU BLAME Clinton for 9/11 but wouldn't blame Bush *IF* anything happen after his watch? You sir, Truly suck the right wing *****. - successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Karm's a sheep. Let him bask in the lush, green fields and continue to "blame the libruls" for everything...
Stuck on Stupid, and unable to realize digg simply reflects the thinking of the MAJORITY of America, and not some "librul conspiracy".... - thegreyfox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Queer huh?
http://americablog.blogspot.com/2006/10/republican-national-committee.html - dave1021, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6BTW, all you psuedo-military types (the ones who hide in their basement making fun of the disabled and anyone who actually FIGHTS in a war) all realize that Webb's book is required reading for the Marines' officer training?
You DO realize that, don't you? - Aidenag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@Karmatic... go back to posting WoW pr0n and Beavis and butthead clips....and leave politics to the adults :) http://www.digg.com/users/karmatic/submitted
- pgoetz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I venture that Karmatic really is an anarchist nihilist and that most of his comments are just aimed at getting under everyone's skin with ridiculously right wing commentary that pisses off anyone that has a brain. Not sure how helpful this is, actually, and -- given how incredibly gullible most of the Christian conservatives are -- one can see how a similar "fake liberal" could get these people all up in arms in a dangerous way. Probably the best response to someone like Karmatic, whose comments are so clearly irrational (for someone who purports to work in the very rational business of gaming software) is to briefly respond, and then move on, ignoring any subsequent noise from the playpen.

>of course not, Clinton was in office for 8 years and handed it over to Bush in ripe shape for a terrorist attack.. learn history
Fascinating. So Bush, who admitted doing nothing before 9/11 about terrorism (well, other than demoting the terrorism chief from the cabinet and proposing a budget cut for terrorism on September 10th) is the victim here. - successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7No child, you get "dugg down" for trying to but but but your way through life...get it yet?
The issue isn't about Webb...Try to keep up, instead of playing the "shift" card.
Simple, have some more coffee... - successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5FOX NEWS hasn't taken them that far in their talking points yet dave...lol!
Perhaps we could bring up Lynne Cheney's book, that should straighten the matter out and put us back on topic huh? ;-)
Semper Fi - successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Here is MORE truths' from the article we are discussing that you have not been able to focus on Karm....
""Over the past several weeks a few realists in the Republican Party, such as (Virginia) Sen. John Warner and former Secretary of State Jim Baker, have begun to make their voices heard. They are moving away from the fantasy world of this administration, toward real solutions," Webb said."
Are Warner and Baker and the Generals and the MAJORITY of America now "libruls" there Karm?
Wake the hell up, America is on to your but but but games.
Reality, deal with it... - CAJason80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@ karm
The logic of mine is simple.
Regardless of party affiliation, I would judge candidates based on their merits, not by blanketly calling the whole of the lot 'queers', or 'bible-thumping nut jobs'.
It's called making informed, intelligent decisions about individual candidates. You should try it sometime.
That's a real independent. Anyone else who claims to be an independent but then turns right around and says 'but I'd never vote for a Democrat' is just being disingenious.
If you're an independent who never votes for Democrats, you're a Republican. Or perhaps a Libertarian or Green. But I doubt very seriously you're either one of those. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Krous:
>Re: the fictional novel Scooter Libby wrote:
Well there is one small difference: one side purports to be the side of "family values" and "morality" (as if they have a monopoly on it).
So when someone from that side writes a book with shockingly dirty sections, it appears to contradict the Republican's purported values. - successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Well you JUST claimed digg had a "librul bias" did you not? Which is precisely why you were reminded by me that AMERICA now puts YOUR thinking...in the minority.
Every aspect of this admin has been a disaster, get used to it.
Why do I call you a sheep and a mindless Bush Apologist/follower? Because you do what they all do, SHIFT from the message to attacking the messenger, and your useless, childish "but but but" tactics to DIVERT away from the topic. You did this immediately, without ever discussing the topic. You went straight to the "talking point" of his novel (which no one had a problem with until now") didn't you? Yes, you did.
This is simple... - pgoetz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I venture that Karmatic really is an anarchist nihilist and that most of his comments are just aimed at getting under everyone's skin with ridiculously right wing commentary that pisses off anyone that has a brain. >Who's the sheep, really? How about naming things Bush has done right or do you honestly believe he has done literally not one single thing right? Criticism is easy.
I like what he's done with daylight savings time. Other than that he's been the worst president in the history of the country. - thegreyfox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Queer huh?
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/010647.php - successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes Karm it fits you quite well. Piss you off? Tough *****.
If you'd like to "label" everyone a "librul" that recognizes failure and lies, then you should have no problem being "labeled" a "but but but" sheep for YOUR actions the minute you stepped up.
When you can start acting like an adult and discussing the ISSUE at hand and the MESSAGE without having to blatantly attack the "messenger" to cause diversion, then perhaps you won't be "dugged down" and be labeled a child, idiot, sheep, or apologist.
The message Karm, step up and debate the message.
This really isn't that difficult to comprehend..... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1karmatic:
>an overwhelming number of diggers are young people and young, poor, uneducated, & minorities tend to be liberal.
Ummm... aren't liberals the "ivory towered academics" in universities? That's contradictory. - 5blocksfree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@karm-> How about naming things Bush has done right or do you honestly believe he has done literally not one single thing right?
Do you honestly believe HAS done one single thing right? Let's hear it - in all honestly, the list can't be all that long
The fact of the matter is that some very fundamental changes have taken place with respect to our government, and the degree to which is its accountable to the citizens of this country. While these changes have been implemented by members of one party, their effects are party-agnostic - they affect everyone. To turn any legitimate concern that relates to our status as a free nation into a partisan debate is insane. Independents, Democrats, and Republican will ALL be equally screwed. - thegreyfox, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5@karmatic
IF, that were to happen doesn't that mean the Bush and the REP were utter failures in setting up the things necessary to protect the American people. - deesnutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Now listen up, all you "macacas".
It's one thing that a person changes from a Republican into a Democrat.
But it really tells you something when a former Republican Secretary of the Navy (under President Reagan) changes party lines to make a point of how incompetent this administration has been in Iraq.
There lies the real irony. There lies the truth. And George "macaca" Allen can't handle the truth, so he does what Republicans do best. And that is to run smear campaigns. And Webb in turns retaliates and counters with more smear campaigns.
The real losers are the people of Virginia. But they need to look past all that, and ask themselves this ...
Why is a former Republican Secretary of the Navy under President Reagan running against another Republican? - Kyoushu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He's trying to tell you that you're whining alot, like a twelve-year-old whose mommy wouldn't let him have another cookie would.
- ClosedCaption, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its funny how he wrote that while being a republican, but that book proves he had bad values? lol
I think thats called DoubleThink - greenreefer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Bush is not on the ballot.
Webb runs against Bush.

Did you read my editorial in the WSJ? It wasn't political, but the title was "Ivory Tower Residents Ignore Corporate Reality." (9/19/2006) It was really about academics not wanting corporations to help designing curriculum oriented towards success in the work place after graduation. - successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is not possible to CONTINUE to vote for those "supporting" this administration, plain and simple.
My "conservative" party needs to learn a lesson. America needs to teach it. America cannot continue to allow this administration to do what it has done. What choices do we as a "conservative" party have? Frist? Santorum? Hastert? etc etc?
No thanks.... - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is weird. one of my friend's name is Webb, and hes prolly on Digg right now.
HEY WEBB! - ElectricKetchup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1> "The only remedy to a series of Iraq policy failures by President Bush is a Democratic takeover of Congress in Nov"
That's a risk I'm not willing to take. Instead, I'll try to vote for the best person for the job instead of which organization they represent. - successrealm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Please...Glenn Beck?
There has been INCOMPETENCE in Iraq. Simple. Generals are saying it, the world sees it, my fellow Marines are seeing it and telling me about it.
In a newspaper column in 2002, the year before Bush ordered the Iraq invasion, Webb wrote that a war there would destabilize the oil-rich Middle East and mire U.S. forces in a bloody and protracted conflict. As of Friday, 2,810 American troops had died in Iraq. (lloks like WEBB was CORRECT..)
"Over the past several weeks a few realists in the Republican Party, such as (Virginia) Sen. John Warner and former Secretary of State Jim Baker, have begun to make their voices heard. They are moving away from the fantasy world of this administration, toward real solutions," Webb said.
Glenn Beck is sitting on his fatass over here "opiiiining"....
Welcome back to REALITY - tsf5000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3It wasn't a compliment.
- jonnydobad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0for Webb to accuse anyone of incompetence if quite amusing. He should first try and run a real campaign (the Webb vs. Allen campaigning is one of the dirtiest races in recent history, neither of them are worth their weight in *****), having an actual action plan, then maybe he can justify his remarks. Bush has looked incompetent regularly, but compared to Webb (or Allen for that matter), I can't say that he has been.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1you really like your little "but but but" phrase, dontcha?
