- lambchopsfdl, on 02/14/2008, -2/+75A party based on the Constitution, what a novel idea. What have we become as America that this is come to be the state of our nation's union?
- Apokalyps2547, on 02/14/2008, -8/+66Good grief, have you actually read their platform?!
Paragraph ONE:
"The Constitution Party gratefully acknowledges the blessing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as Creator, Preserver and Ruler of the Universe and of these United States. We hereby appeal to Him for mercy, aid, comfort, guidance and the protection of His Providence as we work to restore and preserve these United States."
Good game. - doommetal, on 02/14/2008, -10/+62We already have one. It's called the Libertarian Party...
- y0y0howsdajell0, on 02/14/2008, -1/+37To quote a famous comedian that I heard today: "Ron Paul got 5% of the vote on Super Tuesday. That means that 5% of Americans value freedom and the rest value free stuff."
- masterwalls69, on 02/14/2008, -5/+38afew of us are awake....RON PAUL is the ONLY man thats anywhere remotely close to the constitution so Everybody needs to google him and join us.
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
Does your candidate do that? - Terr01, on 02/14/2008, -3/+36He's not a shill. He's a quaking coward who can't do simple math (let alone threat assessment) before wanting to betray the founding principles of America in order to save his yellow-bellied hide from a threat primarily conjured from his own overblown and fearful imagination.
But "shill" is shorter, I guess... - Richandler, on 02/14/2008, -4/+35You can't pick and choose your amendments. They are all there so don't complain about the 4th if you're not will to complain about the 2nd or the 9th and 10th.
- grungegbunny, on 02/14/2008, -9/+39Libertarian party is very constitution based.
- Terr01, on 02/14/2008, -6/+34Beware! Nobody knows when the dreaded Al-Cicada will strike next, although some analysts theorize a 17-year cycle.
- avengingturnip, on 02/14/2008, -20/+45Good idea. There already is one. http://www.constitutionparty.com/
- noahsawyer, on 02/14/2008, -5/+30Great point. You can't base politics on the constitution AND religious beliefs, that is unconstitutional.
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -6/+30Spoken like a true shill.
- cespee, on 02/14/2008, -4/+26These parties exist, but people are brainwashed into voting for the "lesser of two evils". And they get what they ask for. "Oh, I can't vote for so-and-so because he will never be elected, and I'll just waste my vote."
- jjacksonRIAB, on 02/14/2008, -1/+22The Libertarian Party is the largest 3rd party.
Unfortunately they run up against so many barriers getting to the ballot that they are in constant litigation over ballot access laws that the two major parties themselves don't even have to follow. www.lp.org - rendereduseless, on 02/14/2008, -1/+21there is not chance in hell of a new party rising, a new kind of republican (Ron Paul) cant even do so because the media controls everything too much, and they get what they want.
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -24/+43Would that Democrats were as concerned about the Constitutional rights to worship and bear arms. Democrats gave the government power to seize our freedoms. Now, it's too late to whine about it. The beast has turned on them too. How does it feel?
- jumpyg1258, on 02/14/2008, -4/+23No one's going to vote for members in that party since they won't even vote for a single candidate that is pro-constitution aka Ron Paul. Sheeple love to be lied to and manipulated to believe they're going to get all this great stuff rather than face reality. I mean look how well Obama is doing!
- Professr, on 02/14/2008, -0/+18I voted for him, but unfortunately there are plenty of idiots around here who would vote for Bush again if they had the chance. The young generation is not stupid, and I think a return to the constitution is going to be "our fight".
- kuarce, on 02/14/2008, -0/+18I was going to say the same thing. I'm glad someone else did. Why more people aren't libertarian I'll never understand. Law school made me embrace it even more.
- insllvn, on 02/14/2008, -0/+17The 5th is pretty good too.
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation.
It isn't just about not being forced to testify against yourself. - acevoncash, on 02/14/2008, -4/+21nope, he is right.
- MusicalGenius, on 02/14/2008, -3/+20Dem or Rep doesn't matter... The parties are fine... It's the people that are the problem because no one will stand up.
I've said this a lot on digg. I say it again. 10 million people is all it would take to get Bush out. (Whether you like him or not) All I'm saying is Congress would get scared to death if enough people marched D.C. - Rikkochet, on 02/14/2008, -5/+22I'm not am American and actually quite like Obama, so I have no secret motivations here..
But, wasn't his name Ron Paul and didn't only about 5% of you actually vote for him? - mtwolf, on 02/14/2008, -2/+18The intent of the Constitution is to protect us from the government, not from islamofascism.
- rficwizard, on 02/14/2008, -0/+15Remember, these are men who supported or led a violent overthrow of their government. It was not only foreign invasion they feared.
- moskaudancer, on 02/14/2008, -1/+15There's a reason so many people refer to the 2nd Amendment as the "money-back guarantee for the rest of them. The first thing despots do when they take power is disarm the general populace.
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -0/+13I haven't had my chance to vote for him yet.
- manova, on 02/14/2008, -0/+13That is why you have the ability to amend the constitution. If you need to change something to update with the times, amend the constitution, don't just ignore it or re-interpret it.
- SinfulSoul, on 02/14/2008, -1/+14Someone who supported the Constitution did run for president. If my memory serves me right, it was a little known guy named Ron Paul. No one cared about the constitution enough to vote for him though. All this sounds good on paper, but when it comes time to do something, the constitution gets thrown on the back burner.
And as someone stated above, there already exists a constitution party and even the Libertarian party has ridiculous and unfair amounts of trouble getting their names on a voting ballot, let alone any media coverage to make their candidates viable. Time and time again these small mini-movements try to gain momentum to do something about it, but eventually people forget about it or grow tired of trying and failing. Those who try to say there's something going wrong with the way the system works automatically get a tin foil hat in the mail from the rest of society. If that's the price I pay to exercise my freedom to question the government and demand answers, then I'll wear my tin foil hat with pride. I'd rather err on the side of caution than let another freedom of mine go. - Edwaldo, on 02/14/2008, -2/+15Interesting concept, I'm sure that if such a party got organized, people would vote for them. - AshScholl, on 02/14/2008, -2/+15Are them Muslim immigrants listening in on my phone conversations again?
- PremiumBitter, on 02/14/2008, -0/+13Ralph Nader is one of the most un-Libertarian candidates there is...
- scarecrowjohn, on 02/14/2008, -3/+15nooo -- cultural marxists. Heavens. Astonishing logic to suggest that getting rid of Muslims would eliminate the tension between an intrusive government and the right of citizens to individual privacy. Somehow, I don't think so; it seems to have predated the "War on Islamofascists" by a few hundred years. If there were no such thing as Muslims, this tension would still exist; after all the Founders didn't insist on the 4th Amendment because of any concern about Muslim immigrants. They were still remembering what British troops had done. Alternatively, if the country were entirely made up of Muslims, they would still be faced with the same tension between government and the individual.
- emmeron, on 02/14/2008, -0/+12That is so uninformed I don't know where to begin, but I'll take a stab. The right to taxation of income is explicitly disallowed by the constitution. Amendments have many times ripped the document apart and made it fail. The bill of rights is silly and pointless too -- the rights were already clear. Adams desired them strongly -- he envisioned a "new england," as many of the Federalists did. Jefferson opposed the idea claiming that once rights are written, limitations begin. He was right. As for state rights... The idea of the constitution was to balance state and federal rights. RTF(history)M. Stop listening to blatant propaganda.
- TeddySanFran, on 02/14/2008, -5/+17We need Americans to join Chris Dodd and Russ Feingold in standing up for the Constitution.
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, where are you? - brainpile3000, on 02/14/2008, -1/+13Actually, the only income tax that is part of the Constitution is the Corporate tax--not the individual income tax. Look it up!
- strafefire, on 02/14/2008, -0/+11Oh My God! You EPIC FAIL so hard!
- tw3k, on 02/14/2008, -1/+12"without your 4th"
- BrandonMills, on 02/14/2008, -1/+12I guess you need a new name then.
- dukeeeey, on 02/14/2008, -15/+26obama voted for the patrioct act
to keep you safe from al ciadah - LLLSecretChimp, on 02/14/2008, -0/+10You'd be less likely to die if you used a gun.
- HMTKSteve, on 02/14/2008, -1/+11Odds are that the party behind such a name would be anything but all about the Constitituion.
- thrive868, on 02/14/2008, -0/+10The United States needs a second revolution before they totally gut the second amendment.
- Mommybrain, on 02/14/2008, -3/+13Noooo, you have it all wrong. Who is letting the nasty immigrants in? Who has been in power for 17 of the last 25 years? Hint: Not Democrats. Business loves them some sub-minimum wage labor. Yum.
- inactive, on 02/14/2008, -0/+10They could, but with the crappy two party system that we have now prevents any third party from actually getting something done.
- d03boy, on 02/14/2008, -0/+10Sick of seeing it so let's just hide it from reality! ... just like everything else
- ElectricKetchup, on 02/14/2008, -1/+10To everyone voting masterwalls69 down, please leave a comment stating what Ron Paul has done that you disagree with, or that your candidate has done something better at.
- madwaxer, on 02/14/2008, -3/+11The people of the United States of The North Americain Federation can pull out of the States and take back their rights, away from their representatives and force a full re-election for representatives... kinda like re-declaring their independence.
The Lakota Indians have done that already last year i believe, news wires haven't been carrying the story. - shaherazad, on 02/14/2008, -0/+8This, my friends, is why the digg gods have given us a block button.
