- chase001, on 10/23/2007, -3/+28That's what they finally locked up Al Capone for. Maybe that's what will put Aryan Prince away.
- TheHydrogens, on 10/24/2007, -4/+25Care to elaborate on that in any way? Or was it just some lame attempt to distract from the issue in the article? Maybe you could point me towards some corruption that he has been accused of?
Oh Spaza, you are such an epic troll, I actually love it. - jun2san, on 10/23/2007, -3/+24Next week: Waxman found dead at home. Officials are calling it a "suicide."
- rcook18, on 10/23/2007, -0/+21The rules regarding who qualifies as an independent contractor are clear -- this should be easy to decide.
- hiphoc, on 10/23/2007, -5/+24In other news, Satan says Blackwater is a great American company and they are SUPER PATRIOTS!!! And anyone who doesnt belive that hates the troops.
- domataos, on 10/23/2007, -6/+19Not to say the obvious, but shouldn't we be worrying about the murder and war crimes before tax evasion?
- cranium, on 10/23/2007, -3/+16Tu quoque fallacy? That's all you got? Imbecile.
- raublekick, on 10/23/2007, -3/+16Uh... yes we do?
- takamalak, on 10/23/2007, -2/+15You will say the dumbest ***** sometimes, I guess to see what sticks and what doesn't. You poor, poor, dumbass.
- williamdyer, on 10/24/2007, -2/+14Blackwater is typical of the corrupt cop/merc/narc/screw industry. They lie, they murder, they steal. They are rabid animals, and should be disposed of appropriately.
- robberry, on 10/23/2007, -0/+12Chase001 is right. Whatever your views on taxation or tax law, it's a fact that tax law can be, and has been, a useful tool for locking up career criminals who have been able to avoid being convicted for their more heinous crimes.
- Coven, on 10/24/2007, -2/+13I wouldn't be surprised if JamesSpaza was some intern shill working for Hannity or Limbaugh. He seems to spout the same ***** that they are so famous for.
- rmmcclay, on 10/23/2007, -2/+13Blackwater. Really a poor choice for a company name, especially for a company like Blackwater.
- takamalak, on 10/24/2007, -2/+12I guess foxhaze likes to pay extra taxes to finance the war effort.
- cranium, on 10/23/2007, -0/+8Not for another 455 days, anyway.
- robberry, on 10/23/2007, -1/+9Since when is "socialist" a synonym for "partisan"?
- clothmonkey, on 10/24/2007, -2/+10Indeed, he does seem to do this a lot. I wonder if he gets some kind of bulk discount on straw...
- davewashere, on 10/23/2007, -1/+9Yeah, because the Vince Foster suicide wasn't thoroughly investigated - by Ken Starr of all people - and determined to be just a suicide.
- neoform, on 10/23/2007, -3/+10Waxman is probably the only guy that actually seems to have the balls to stand up to all the ***** going on in Washington.
- hangtown2004, on 10/24/2007, -2/+9Same old stuff, Lets face it Blackwater has "A In" so to speak with the upper executive branch and will get away with it.
Please watch:
http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/ This will give you some idea of the corruption of war makers. - Frei, on 10/23/2007, -0/+7The latest allegations stem from a March letter from the Internal Revenue Service to Blackwater that Waxman's committee obtained. The letter informs Blackwater that the IRS reviewed the case of a Blackwater worker in Afghanistan and determined that the individual should rightfully and legally be classed as an employee -- not an independent contractor -- for tax purposes.
So it looks like the IRS disagrees and it's time for a review of their employees. - Frei, on 10/23/2007, -0/+7"The latest allegations stem from a March letter from the Internal Revenue Service to Blackwater that Waxman's committee obtained. - cranium, on 10/23/2007, -2/+8How do you know? Do you know any?
- miketrin, on 10/24/2007, -1/+7When the highest officials in the government have shown over and over that rules are optional and they choose to ignore the ones they don't like, why should a company that's in bed with these officials pay attention to any rules, tax, rules of engagement, rules of command.... Everything is optional.
- dictum, on 10/23/2007, -1/+7All things about Waxman aside, lol for thinking Blackwater gives a damn what laws they break and further lol for thinking someone is going to do something about it.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/23/2007, -1/+6Waxman corrupt? Are you serious? The Repugnicans would LOVE to have something to "prove" he's corrupt - one problem: He ain't. Waxman is one of the few good guys left in congress - he's been a great balancing force to the rampant corruption found in the likes of Duke Cunningham, Tom Delay, etc.
Spaza - you're a troll. - TheLoneHoot, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4great "sources" - jesus - are you kidding? You are actually citing "democrats-lie.com"?! Yeah, right. Don't ever complain about rawstory or thinkprogress ever again!
- SpottyLayton, on 10/23/2007, -1/+5You are right that contractors are still liable for taxes/FICA. But I believe the "employer" is on the hook for the taxes if the contractor does not have a Federal Tax ID and does not pay.
- tomboy501, on 10/23/2007, -0/+4Tax evasion is how they finally brought down Al Capone, like chase said above. When all else fails, the massive slow cogs of government will grind down when you've done other bad things they can't quite pin on you. Geeky accountants save the day again.
- jaymzdean, on 10/24/2007, -0/+3And denial isn't a river in Egypt. Inside job, bitches. That wasn't smoke chasing people down the street that day, it was vaporized concrete. Wake. The. *****. Up.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/24/2007, -0/+3You're an ass then. Don't you realize they make LESS THAN STANDARD MINIMUM WAGE in most cases? The minimum wage for wait staff is significantly lower than the regular minimum wage. They depend on tips to make up for, and hopefully if they've provided good service, exceed "minimum" pay.
You are yet another part of what's wrong with America. Please do not reproduce ever. - TheLoneHoot, on 10/23/2007, -0/+3WHO SAID ANYTHING ABOUT REPUBLICANS?
Some things are just plainly obvious and don't need to be said.
SURE. BUT HE'S BALANCING THEIR CONSERVATISM WITH HIS LIBERALISM.
Randy Cunningham and Tom Delay's PROVEN corruption was "conservatism"?!
HE'S STILL CORRUPT.
Your proof please?
Sorry - you have not proven any corruption on Waxman's part and you remain a troll until you do so. - e68895f, on 10/23/2007, -0/+3we laugh because its funny, and we laugh because its true.....
Al Capone. - TheLoneHoot, on 10/23/2007, -0/+3"Waxman is a tool"
...for justice. - one2gamble, on 10/23/2007, -3/+6Blackwater may be avoiding the taxes but the "contractors" are still liable for their "income" and in reality if all the proper paperwork was filed and signed its not illegal.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/23/2007, -2/+4Subcontractor then. They are still not Full Time Employees. I guarantee they get 1099s and not W2s from Blackwater.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2Some of us sleep at night and work/live during the day.
- Swift2, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2I believe he's still waiting for the e-mails they trashed on the GOP website.
- gibbwake, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2Blackwater is also a plumbers term for *****/piss tainted water. Thats about as fitting as the japanese one IMO.
- TheHydrogens, on 10/24/2007, -1/+3Thanks for the response, although those two sources don't actually cite anything, and look to be about on par with rawstory, etc.. Not to say this isn't all true, but somewhat weak evidence.
Anyway, I have to agree with you 100% on the Republicans and Democrats being lying, cheating crooks... - TheLoneHoot, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2Well don't blame Henry Waxman.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2So when the death camps were found in Germany during WW2, was that just us finding an bogeyman too?
The fact that our government is paying the world's largest mercenary army at salaries FAAAAAR higher than our regular troops, and the fact that they are essentially "above the law" in terms of any jurisdiction, and the fact that they are awareded HUGE no-bid contracts, and the fact that they are war profiteering in New Orleans because the Louisiana National Guard is deployed to Iraq, brings up HUGE concerns for the Americn people. If Blackwater hasn't made enough money to pay taxes out of all that, then I have some serious concerns about their bookkeeping abilities to say the VERY LEAST. If an out of control mercenary army is able to be brought into the normal boundaries of our justice system by nailing them for tax evasion, then so be it.
If you are unable to see the insane combination of the neocon empire's own personal wehrmacht and assault on the constitution, you are leading a VERY VERY sheltered life. - Notasheeple, on 10/24/2007, -1/+3yeah? Then don't pay your income tax. The federal reserve is a private, for profit company, not audited by the govt., not controlled by any branch of the govt. The income tax is used to pay back the *interest* that is charged to us. The federal reserve then prints the money and then "loans" it to us! WHO RUNS THE FEDERAL RESERVE?
AMERICA: FREEDOM TO FASCISM -By Aaron Russo
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-165688030 ... - Notasheeple, on 10/23/2007, -0/+2Wow! That was so deep. I have a whole new outlook on life now. What a punk shill!
- dienaked, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1In general, Independent contractor's are responsible for doing their own tax witholding.
- inactive, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Well you know what they say...death and taxes. Kinda like how if separatist groups get the FBI's attention they start rolling in tanks under the federal weapons charge banner.
- hittnrun, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1another note... this isn't the first time Waxman carried the water for America's enemies and undermined the men and women fighting for freedom, both in uniform and out. http://www.nationalreview.com/york/york070903.asp Proven as BS before. Same is true now. Educate yourselves rats.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Call for an new investigation then... does that lessen the criminality of Blackwater's behavior?
- inactive, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Instead of taxing companies/people who are being paid by the government, why don't they just pay them what they'd earn after taxes and keep it simple? My god all this bureaucracy is a waste of our taxes, not to mention all the dead trees the required paper trail will be printed on.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/24/2007, -1/+2100% SPOT ON!
