- jotate, on 06/05/2008, -14/+417Dehydrated baby soup is what gives John McCain his souper powers.
- brandonchicago, on 06/05/2008, -10/+372This is how babies are made. Dehydrated babies are the wave of the future. You can take them on long hiking trails and don't have to worry about them spoiling. Really a marvel of science.
- Diggrock, on 06/05/2008, -12/+276and some of you thought McCain was an idiot...
- obliviousfool, on 06/05/2008, -7/+230When McCain was a baby, In the 1930s, all babies got hot bottled water. It made them strong. It gave them character.

Here's the relevant part:
We must also prepare, far better than we have, to respond quickly and effectively to a natural calamity.
When Americans confront a catastrophe they have a right to expect basic competence from their government. Firemen and policemen should be able to communicate with each other in an emergency. We should be able to deliver bottled hot water to dehydrated babies and rescue the infirm from a hospital with no electricity.
Our disgraceful failure to do so here in New Orleans exposed the incompetence of government at all levels to meet even its most basic responsibilities. - shitforbrains, on 06/05/2008, -5/+112The first time he forgets where he is and dives for cover after he hears a helicopter in the distance, it's all over. Oh and I'm sure they gave him hot bottled water at the Hanoi Hilton. But not to drink.
I know this shows my age, but in 1976 when McCain came back from captivity, I was working for the DOD at Naval Air Station Jacksonville. McCain's Jet stopped here and he and 2 other sailors got off of the plane to make speeches. This is the kind of thing that was going on all over the country as the POWs came home. Anyway, I was talking to a Navy Commander who was an A-7 pilot as McCain's big jet pulled up and I asked him if McCain or any of the other ex-POWs would be able to continue to serve in the Navy. He told me that after anyone is a prisoner for any length of time, they are considered 'compromised' and that they could never be trusted again with classified information. Not that they couldn't continue to serve, but certainly not in a position of authority and certainly not as a combat pilot.
I'll admit, it raised a tear to my eye every time I saw these guys meet their families and stuff on the tarmac near the tower, but McCain rambled more than most. As I listened to him, I remember thinking that although this guy was a hero, I was glad he'd never be in charge of anything important again, and in my head I wished him a good, quiet anonymous life.
I'd like to know what changed from 'compromised' to someone we'd give the most sensitive documents we have as a country to peruse at his pleasure?
Regardless of what you think about Obama or Bob Barr or Ron Paul or whomever, personally I don't trust John McCain. I thought he had a screw loose then (not that it was his fault) and I think he has a screw loose now. - helooksmortal, on 06/05/2008, -4/+106*spits out hot water already in mouth and puts down bottle in shame*
...i should have thought of the dehydrated babies. i feel so embarrassed. - DephexTwin, on 06/05/2008, -8/+107HOT WATER BURN BABY!! HOT WATER BURN BABY!!
- tlphelps2000, on 06/05/2008, -14/+100Can't. Stop. Laughing!
- guiltyblade, on 06/05/2008, -6/+87even in context it makes no sense
- BaudiIROCZ, on 06/05/2008, -3/+83Does the full transcript make the comment any less odd?
- BlueDjinn, on 06/05/2008, -25/+100Is it really a good idea to give bottles of hot water to babies, however thirsty they may be?
Luke warm milk, sure.
Hot water? You never give a baby anything that's hot. Luke warm, perhaps, but never HOT!
Hmmm...perhaps this is his secret plan to counter Roe vs. Wade! "We'll force the women to give birth, but then we'll make up for it by scalding their unwanted children with bottles of hot water!" - RickHavoc, on 06/05/2008, -10/+83Crap, that reminds me I'm out of bottled hot water. How am I going to make tea?
- AndrewDB, on 06/05/2008, -6/+73Is it too early to start the list of McCainisms?
- Tiak, on 06/05/2008, -2/+60I'm sorry, but I just can't let that slide... The man is a war hero! He only eats soup made from rehydrated babies.
- ndseifi, on 06/05/2008, -5/+60Some analysts believe the debate concerning dehydrated babies will decide the election.
- unicronband, on 06/05/2008, -0/+54Have a kid, let it get dehydrated, and wait for McCain to show up with a bottled hot water delivery.
- x1soundgarden1x, on 06/05/2008, -2/+541) The comment still makes zero sense for myriad reasons. 2) Funny how McCain was having birthday cake with Bush while New Orleans was drowning and then he has the gumption to get up there and criticize the response.
- inactive, on 06/05/2008, -5/+49I was thinking the same thing, but I can't imagine a scenario where that sentence would make sense.
It's the "hot" part that makes it insane. A hot water bottle is that bag you use to apply heat, so it's not for dehydrated babies. People used to put that in baby cribs to keep them warm, but that has nothing to do with dehydration.
And if he means regular water bottles that are hot, well, wtf? Why would they be heated? And why babies?
I'm befuddled, bewildered and bemused. - PhireN, on 06/05/2008, -4/+46.... now we all know he is insane.
- xenuxenuts, on 06/05/2008, -5/+44maybe give them a BOOB instead
- coolkatz321, on 06/05/2008, -6/+45Votes with Bush 95% of the time, and apparently he speaks like him too. I cringe when I wonder what the Bush mentality and McCain temper combined would do to this country.
- RachaelMichele, on 06/05/2008, -10/+49Actually it was the "water" part of that statement, and not the "hot", that bothered me. Babies should never drink straight water. It's very easy for them to get water intoxication.
- GhostFreeman, on 06/05/2008, -7/+441930s? I thought he was born sometime around the fall of the Babylonian Empire?
- Neph, on 06/05/2008, -1/+38Ruin the fun how? It still doesn't make an iota of sense.
- ArmCannon, on 06/05/2008, -6/+39This is an historical race! The first SENILE OLD MAN to run for president.
- CarStan, on 06/05/2008, -1/+34dude, you made me spill my dehydrated baby soup all over my keyboard
- Merendino, on 06/05/2008, -0/+32Very painful... wow... its as awkward as watching a musical where the characters are singing directly to the camera (i.e. viewer) when you're best buddy is sitting on the couch next to you.
- jstohler, on 06/05/2008, -5/+37I foresee a new Internet phenomenon: random McCain quotes.
- futureb, on 06/05/2008, -5/+36Speech writing w/ madlib.
We should be able to _____ _____ to ______. - jf76, on 06/05/2008, -6/+37Brilliant! McCain has this presidency in a bag!
- linagee, on 06/05/2008, -1/+31I think he got it backwards. Dehydrated water to hot babies. Wait no, it still doesn't make sense.
- simpleid, on 06/05/2008, -1/+31where's the techno remix?
- FutureGuy, on 06/05/2008, -0/+30I still don't think one would deliver hot water to dehydrated babies, that would be kind of cruel.
- darksideownedu, on 06/05/2008, -9/+37and I'm Ron Burgundy. Go ***** yourself San Diego.
- revjustin2, on 06/05/2008, -0/+26You have touched upon a special kind of awkward that I don't think I have ever heard anyone articulate before. Kudos.
- TheNepenthe, on 06/05/2008, -1/+27You NEVER give water to babies. Hot or not.
- smacksaw, on 06/05/2008, -10/+35Not to be a party pooper, but this is obviously taken out of context. My curiousity has been piqued. What exactly was he talking about?
- Jauladeoro, on 08/27/2008, -0/+24We'll do it live!!! ... What?... We are live?... Dammit.
- Sogladtobehere, on 06/05/2008, -6/+28crazy old man has lost his faculties. If he wasn't running for Prez, I'd say leave the poor old guy alone.
- BurningSky, on 06/05/2008, -6/+28Considering that one the most important jobs that the president has (and one of the few explicitly stated roles dolled out in the Constitution) is giving the State of the Union address, shouldn't we elect a president that inspires people with their speech giving ability? Most people in this country find comfort in their situations when the president gets on television and gives a good speech. Good luck winning over anybody by talking about dehydrated babies McCain...
- Ganpachi, on 06/05/2008, -3/+24DON'T MIND IF I DOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Stupid, senile, ugly, old, infirm, incontinent and geriatric McCain.
Seriously, Obama is ten times the candidate he is in every category outside of age. - dinot, on 06/05/2008, -3/+24Did GWB write his speech? Can humans and fish coexist peacefully?
- luckyguy2000, on 06/05/2008, -5/+26Bush 3.0
- IntellEJent, on 06/05/2008, -13/+32He is NOT a war hero; he was merely a prisoner-of-war.
- thugok, on 06/05/2008, -0/+19The real question is: what are two guys doing watching a musical together?
- TheNepenthe, on 06/05/2008, -0/+18Put that in a blog so more can dig that story up.
It's very interesting.. -
