Was going to vote Obama earlier this year, it sounded good. But after the past few weeks I'm going McCain.
Move one vote from the Dems to the Reps. - inactive, on 09/13/2008, -3/+24ZERO Credibility = Democratic Majority in Congress
Thank you for nothing = Reid & Pelosi - Crabmen, on 09/13/2008, -2/+22This is an outstanding commentary. Taxes, for the purpose of CREATING for the common good is somthing we understand is beneficial. Taxes, for the purpose of social engineering is cruel to all.
- xman8, on 09/13/2008, -4/+22From the article:
"Mr. McCain will lower taxes. Mr. Obama will raise them, especially on small businesses. To understand why, you need to know something about the "infamous" top 1% of income tax filers: In order to avoid high corporate tax rates and the double taxation of dividends, small business owners have increasingly filed as individuals rather than corporations. When Democrats talk about soaking the rich, it isn't the Rockefellers they're talking about; it's the companies where most Americans work. Three out of four individual income tax filers in the top 1% are, in fact, small businesses."

This is what most Liberals do not understand.
They have been told that corporations, success is bad. What a shame, they are bitting the hand that feeds them. - inactive, on 09/13/2008, -3/+20I found this to be a useful and fair-minded article. It's not a slash-and-burn attack piece, it's a calm examination of what various governmental policies produce. The thing that smacked me around was that three states accounted for 1/3rd of the job growth. That means that 2/3rds of all new jobs was split among the other 47 states. Who says that taxes and unionization don't have a negative economic impact?
- inactive, on 09/14/2008, -1/+14FTA - The business climate in Michigan is now so unfavorable that it has overwhelmed the considerable comparative advantage in auto production that Michigan spent a century building up. No one should let Michigan politicians blame their problems solely on the decline of the U.S. auto industry. Yes, Michigan lost 83,000 auto manufacturing jobs during the past decade and a half, but more than 91,000 new auto manufacturing jobs sprung up in Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Texas.

If You Like Michigan's Economy, You'll Love Obama's - thoughtcrime, on 09/14/2008, -1/+10As a long suffering resident of Michigan (one that wants OUT), I can attest to the accuracy of this article. Of the 300,000+ jobs lost in Michigan in the last 10 years, about 68,000 were lost just last year alone. Our communist governor (Jennifer Granholm) ran for reelection, and won, based upon the faulty premise that our bad economy was the result of her predecessors policies (John Engler).
Mr. Engler, a Republican, was successful in eliminating government bureaucracy and over regulation, cut personal and business taxes, and actually attracted new businesses to Michigan. Most of these new businesses (non-automotive) have been shuttered on Granholm's watch. More proof of Engler's success - State government employees absolutely HATED him. Why? Because he made them work more for their paychecks, and cut their lucrative benefits to be more in-line with private industry.
Granholm is now blaming the dismal state of our State on George Bush, and apparently it's working because I strongly suspect Obama will win Michigan. This speaks to the abnormally high "stupidity coefficient" of most Michiganders. Granholm is notoriously hostile to small business, has raised personal and business taxes, has increased the size of government, has spent taxpayer dollars on "feel good" projects that benefit her cronies (including Michael Moore)...all with no demonstrable benefits.
Michigan has one of the highest foreclosure rates, the worst roads in the country, some of the worst schools, no support for higher education, and high taxes. In addition to the ***** weather, it's no wonder people are leaving in droves. If we could sell our house we'd be gone. But the way things are going, I'd be willing to take a significant loss just to get out of this hell hole.
Look at Michigan. Elect Obama, and we ARE America's future. - mustangmike53, on 09/13/2008, -3/+12We are whiners, and the media has sold the idea of a recession even though there isn't one.
- inactive, on 09/13/2008, -2/+11Every Presidential election year the economy tanks (real or imagined) trying to get democrat / socialists elected.
Unfortunately this one is quite different. - rebrad, on 09/14/2008, -0/+8Ohio isn't far behind. This is a state that was once run by RINO's that seemed to pass anything the Democrats liked and then we got a real Democrat when a real Republican ran for Governor. Since then taxes have gone up and the already depressed housing market has sunk to historic lows and businesses are tripping over each other to leave the state. One could argue that big businesses is being subsidized to leave the state because they can write off their massive loses because of bad investments. The states answer is to motivate more business to leave by raising taxes and imposing more regulation. Yes Ohio like Michigan is a model for the Obamanation of America.
Now if I can only sell my house I'd be outta here but considering the average house is on the market for a little over 2 years I think I'm stuck here. - inactive, on 09/13/2008, -3/+11Do you realize what a whiner YOU are, mansun? You can't dispute or disprove WHAT THE ARTICLE SAID, so you ATTACK THE MESSENGER. Talk about pathetic.
- HOWDOYOUKNOW, on 09/14/2008, -0/+7
If You Like Michigan's Economy, You'll Love Obama's.
Hopefully Michigan wakes up and hopefully America wakes up before it is too late! - mansun79, on 09/13/2008, -19/+3So this column is written by the same guy who said a few weeks ago that Americans were whiners and that we are in a "mental recession". What a joker.
ZERO Credibility.
