- sharpfork, on 11/04/2008, -29/+327Voter intimidation is anti-American.
- vertexoflife, on 11/04/2008, -26/+274FTA:
"Upon receiving the tip, we alerted the Obama lawyer at the polling place closest to our current location, who then called the "secret squirrel" hotline to provide the information we were given. Shortly thereafter (and I mean like 4 seconds after he hung up), we received a phone call from the boiler room for more information. We were then told that the campaign was dispatching a platoon of lawyers to deal with the problem immediately."
Obama's all over this. - nailbender, on 11/04/2008, -21/+232May the spirits of Martin and Bobby help get us though this day without violence.
- tomsoppe, on 11/04/2008, -71/+203Mean Republicans can never win on their own non-existent merits, so they always have to try to steal elections.
But, don't forget, they're the moral Christian party (because they hate gay people). - mgraham80, on 11/04/2008, -29/+129Not this time.
- amprather, on 11/04/2008, -28/+107GOP - Meet the power of the Intertubes!!
- Exhibitionist, on 11/04/2008, -32/+109But seriously, wouldn't it be awesome if the race was between Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich?
- Mothrog, on 11/04/2008, -41/+115Having a police officer around and verifying identity is voter intimidation? Buried for being ***** retarded.
- lodleader, on 11/04/2008, -13/+86did anyone even RTFA?!?!
OMG they are asking for ID?!?!?!? and there is ONE cop parked outside and he is LOOKING at people!
please... - ftx437, on 11/04/2008, -4/+70 1. Police are circling the polling place, which according to our source, is making people in line uneasy.
2. Poll workers are harassing voters over identification.
1. aren't they supposed to? Driving into work i passed 3 polling places in va and there were atleast 2 cops at each one. With the type of protesting that BOTH PARTIES people do then yeah they should be there to stop it from getting out of hand.
2. Yes you must prove you are a citizen to vote. This is not harassment it's law..You must be a us citizen to vote. - AlphaCrow, on 11/04/2008, -19/+83It's a two-way street, people:
Republican election board members are being thrown out in Philadelphia (quite illegally):
http://townhall.com/blog/g/cf47766b-5a6d-44ab-95e7 ...
Hillary is campaigning 5 feet from booths (it's illegal to do anything like that inside a voting location):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyVjqRApOoc - oldgraygeek, on 11/04/2008, -38/+98This will be how the Republican party comes to an end: crappy sleazy tactics, exposed by the bright light of instant communications and Web coverage.
Lincoln is spinning in his grave. - londubh, on 11/04/2008, -66/+116but very Republican.
- jwstone01, on 11/04/2008, -37/+86We cannot, CANNOT, allow this to happen again. Get those lawyers there!
- netgui68, on 11/04/2008, -46/+93This is unacceptable and must be stopped NOW!!!!
- isamuelson, on 11/04/2008, -15/+61Hey, Dems are doing it too:
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Dems_in_Philly_K ... - Braingoo, on 11/04/2008, -4/+46what to Martin Lawrence and Bobby Brown have to do with it.
- dba928, on 11/04/2008, -7/+48I'm missing what the problem is here. Are the cops pointing their guns at voters?
- BaileyCowboy, on 11/04/2008, -15/+55It really seems to me that a majority of posters here are assuming that all of the police force are Republicans. Additionally, I guess I would welcome a police force at a polling precinct. I don't see the problem here.
- starslinger72, on 11/04/2008, -4/+39Wow cant tell you the last time I was affraide of having police around when there was a big group of people. maybe they are there to make sure nothing stupid happens, and for everyone to get a chance to vote.
Also where did police == republicans come from? - kingmanic, on 11/04/2008, -8/+43Better yet, Spiderman and Batman. Which would be just as likely.
- Glassmentality, on 11/04/2008, -8/+41Do black people hate cops or something? I don't get it.
- plainOldFool, on 11/04/2008, -1/+34Even though I voted for McCain, please STFU!
- a2fan, on 11/04/2008, -5/+34You're an ass if you don't think there aren't shenanigans going on, from both sides, by the more radicalized idiots. They don't represent the base of either party, and are pursuing their own agendas.
- Mahler3, on 11/04/2008, -37/+65Cops are participating in voter suppression. Maybe we should get their badge numbers and get their shields taken away. Sounds like a fair trade - take a shield for every vote snatched.
- Aadain, on 11/04/2008, -11/+38This right here is how Obama will run this country. He'll be prepared for everything and be on top of problems the second they are found. We'll finally have a real leader again!
- wendelgee2, on 11/04/2008, -7/+34Dear lunatic fringe,
Enjoy your imminent marginalization.
Love,
Rational America - Jaedon, on 11/04/2008, -7/+34Seriously...what is so wrong with asking someone for their identification? I'm personally glad they are on top of this...I don't want to see the same person vote multiple times under a false pretense. Looking at all these comments I can see that the majority of digg users are more concerned with getting Obama elected than securing an individuals vote.
Did anyone even read the article before turning this into a Republican slam fest? - Smaulz, on 11/04/2008, -7/+33Yeah, and the two Black Panthers blocking the door in NC is Republican?
- ulmedas, on 11/04/2008, -2/+27I don't know. Does a police presence necessarily imply voter intimidation?
There were three police officers at my polling place and a line of several hundred people, almost all of them black, and no one seemed concerned. - JoeMondo, on 11/04/2008, -41/+63Technology always proves to be the achilles' heel for fascist ***** like the GOP.
From the printing press to twitter, increased communication is always a benefit to we, the people. - sjbdallas, on 11/04/2008, -8/+30Long lines, checking IDs, and lack of free coffee and donuts apparently suppresses lazy democrats.
- lpferris, on 11/04/2008, -1/+23Martin Lawrence, I have no idea.
Bobby Brown, however, says your vote is your prerogative. - ftx437, on 11/04/2008, -11/+31and of course there is this..
which the dems just shrug off..
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Dems_in_Philly_K ... - jcounterman, on 11/04/2008, -10/+30Oh, it goes both ways. One woman in Houston was told she couldn't vote while wearing an Alaskan tourist t-shirt. There is some malicious intent, but mostly just ineptitude on both sides of the isle.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6093076. ... - inactive, on 11/04/2008, -3/+23I have said this since day one.
I am a huge Kucinich supporter, but since he officially dropped out, I went with Ron Paul.
Could you imagine voting between the better of two goods instead the lesser of two evils?
That's change we can all believe in. - thenekkidtruth, on 11/04/2008, -1/+19If only one could digg a comment twice !
- inactive, on 11/04/2008, -5/+23Better than platoons of soldier's slaughtering non-Americans....
- KerrSG1, on 11/04/2008, -11/+29A cop, by virtue of being there, suppresses your vote? How? Did he stop you from voting? Are you so intimdated by a cop that their presence prevents you from walking up, signing in voting? Are you such a weak willed individual that you can't stand up and vote for something you believe in because a person of authority, who has every right to patrol any area they deem necessary is present?
Pathetic. - darny, on 11/04/2008, -4/+21Re: Voter ID
When I went to vote this morning in NYC, I just told them my name, they looked me up in a sign in book that had a copy of my signature, and I had to sign to prove my identity. It was simple, quick and easy.
Re: Cops...so what? How is that intimidation?
I'm Darny, I voted for Obama and I'm burying this story. - cloviejr, on 11/04/2008, -2/+19When I voted, a volunteer asked me to have my driver's license or voter registration card ready. OMG VOTER INTIMIDATION
One of the workers had to ask the guy behind me to stop using his cell phone inside the voting area. HOLY ***** FREE SPEECH IS BEING SQUELCHED, GET ME OBAMASTRIKEFORCE ON THE HORN - Dubbsacc, on 11/04/2008, -1/+16I had to show my ID, and I'm not black.
- inactive, on 11/04/2008, -15/+29I thought this was another article from the onion.
Then I saw it was from obamastrikeforce.com
I am still laughing. - inactive, on 11/04/2008, -0/+14It means they came and left already.
- Mothrog, on 11/04/2008, -5/+19"You do realize there are people who are fearful of police. "
There are also people scared of confined spaces. Would it be voter intimidation if there was a closed voting booth?
"Police shouldn't be at the polls unless they are voting or responding to a call."
The policeman was protecting a judge.
"There have been fake emails sent out saying police will be at polls looking to arrest people."
...And? It doesn't take much time to verify that's not correct. - carnivore0311, on 11/04/2008, -1/+15This is NOT voter intimidation. What Police near the voting line will make people vote republican right? All police officers MUST be republican. Or are they trying to say police officers will attack black people for no reason? Maybe black people are afraid of police? Wtf are they trying to say with this. It is an unassociated issue. Also "harrassing" voters over identification probably boils down to making sure voters have their proper ID to vote. Its this kind of Jesse Jackson ***** that makes people not take racism problems seriously. I'll just prepare for the digg down.
- Mothrog, on 11/04/2008, -5/+18Yeah, having police around and *gasp* checking ID! Those bastards! How are all the dead people supposed to vote when they're checking ID?!?
- RTFMA, on 11/04/2008, -3/+16Warning - People without a sense of humor should not read the following:
Let's compromise. How about platoons of soldiers slaughtering lawyers? - vicsvenge, on 11/04/2008, -2/+15Whew. Good thing they called the secret squirrel hotline. Those ***** at the secret hedgehog hotline suck.
Seriously digg. WHAT THE ***** - shaka999, on 11/04/2008, -3/+16Exactly. This is just ridiculous grand standing. Why don't we save our righteous indignation (see the pun there :) ) for when it counts.
