- SheilaNoya, on 10/12/2008, -7/+263The Republican party is killing itself, just like it did during the 2006 elections when they lost control of the House and the Senate.
They pride themselves on how much they can lie and smear their opponents. They have shown us over and over again that they don't have anything to offer except hatred and division.
It's time for a change. - booksnmore4you, on 10/12/2008, -5/+240FTA
Frederick did not feel he had the luxury of subtlety. He climbed atop a folding chair to give 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door their talking points — for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden: "Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon," he said. "That is scary." It is also not exactly true — though that distorted reference to Obama's controversial association with William Ayers, a former 60s radical, was enough to get the volunteers stoked. "And he won't salute the flag," one woman added, repeating another myth about Obama. She was quickly topped by a man who called out, "We don't even know where Senator Obama was really born." Actually, we do; it's Hawaii.
/FTA - digitaldoodler, on 10/12/2008, -5/+208As someone who helps with the grassroots efforts of the Obama campaign, I can tell you that I have never once been instructed to even talk about McCain. Our entire emphasis is on what Obama can do for this country.
The McCain campaign is clearly desperate. Can't win with your candidate's credentials and ideas? Might as well make voters scared of the other candidate! - inactive, on 10/12/2008, -5/+180Obama, Osama... real original.
But you can say if they are falling back on such stupidity, there must not have much real criticism to make. - freedomjoe, on 10/12/2008, -7/+152I also volunteer for Obama and we have been told in no uncertain terms that NO negative talk about McCain or Palin is allowed while we are calling people or registering voters. Issues only, and it is Obama's stance on the issues that we talk about. When the world was ganging up on her daughter, Obama told us all that families were off limits. He didn't just do that for the cameras, he said it to all of us and he meant it. It was tough listening to her and McCain discredit him and slander his family -- along with their supporters -- and not say anything back, but we all respect Obama's leadership and he is correct about this. None of us ever talk about the stuff we talk about on digg while we are working. The difference is that Obama has good ideas for the country, so it would only hurt us to waste time degrading the opponent -- though they richly deserve it for all of the lies they spew and the hate they've stirred up, based on utter lies and fallacies.
Too bad Palin doesn't have the same sense of values, but then...she's a typical Republican extremist. When she opens her mouth, she is lying. Today, after Troopergate came out with finding her guilty of violating state law, she announced that she was glad to be cleared of all charges in "Tasergate". A nice spin and way of RE-slandering her BIL, years after a judge ordered her to CEASE and desist slandering and harassing him. No apology, no admission of guilt. Just more lies. Did she not read the findings? Even Time magazine knows she was found guilty. No, I'm not kidding. Typical Republican tactic; if I rebrand it, they will buy it.
Not this time.
We don't need more liars in office. America needs to regain her moral authority. We will do so under two candidates who have NO ethics violations, no extra marital affairs and no slimy deregulation policies to lie about. Hope and changed. Coming soon to a white house near you. Along with tax breaks for the middle class and health care we can afford. Thank you, Democrats. - jackieblu, on 10/12/2008, -6/+144OMG - these people shouldn't breed!
- cg4et, on 10/12/2008, -5/+78This strategy might have worked, at one time, but the dimwitted McCain campaign hasn't figured out that every vote they gain from the rabid right is offset by a loss of at least one vote from undecideds, independents, and moderate Republicans.
And, every attack like this makes Obama supporters just that much more motivated to vote early work hard until the last day. - SpeedSteamBoat, on 10/13/2008, -5/+74FTA: "'I'm voting for McCain,' the father told us. But his 19-year-old son, a college student home for the weekend, told us he plans to send in his absentee ballot for Obama. His reason? 'Palin's a retard'"
It might not be P.C., but I think that's about as a good a reason as any. - built2spill, on 10/12/2008, -6/+64So, Obama isn't going to win the dimwit demographic?
- tastypaste, on 10/13/2008, -2/+57When all you've got to offer is lies, you might as well make them whoppers.
This seems to be the GOP's strategy this year. - elwior, on 10/12/2008, -5/+57 You know, I think they pretty much have the rabid right saturated. All the whackos will go for McCain/Palin or not show up at all. At this point, they're just turning off the folks in the middle, particularly women, who tend to be turned off by nastiness.
Nothing like an ugly, mean-spirited, and truly stupid campaign to turn a modest loss into a rout. - cg4et, on 10/12/2008, -2/+48Every thinking person I know is voting for Obama. Unfortunately, he will need a majority.
- booksnmore4you, on 10/12/2008, -2/+46My experience is the same.
- JenniferInMO, on 10/12/2008, -2/+43Mine is as well. We are armed with copies of his policies and instructed to be respectful and focus on the issues. It is also on the web site neighbor to neighbor program. It's all about being informed, getting excited and just talking to people respectfully.
- JoeMondo, on 10/13/2008, -4/+45The same fundamentalists who want their 10 commandments in the schools can't even follow the No False Witness commandment themselves.
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -7/+47John McCain?
As in John Wayne Gacy?
McCain is a serial killer.
McCain is old. Lenin was old. Coincidence? I think not. - paintgrl, on 10/12/2008, -2/+38So true.
- Phylter, on 10/13/2008, -5/+41How does Exxon John expect anyone to vote for him when he runs a rabble rousing campaign based on nothing but the filthiest lies and lunatic slanders about his opponent? McCain is a DISGRACE and an INSULT to every citizen of this nation, and his current tactics, which smack of nothing so much as brownshirt street harangues, need to be denounced by every real patriot, of whatever party, every time he or his moronic side kick open their mouths. To inflame people against each other in these unstable and frightening times, is beyond despicable, and smacks of megalomania.
- brad3378, on 10/12/2008, -1/+34Can you blame them?
What's are they supposed to do?
Talk about fiscal conservatism after he voted in favor of the $700 Billion "No-Banker-Left-Behind Act" of 2008? - franklymister, on 10/13/2008, -2/+34I guess Republicans have basically declared war on whatever part of America they don't like.
Seems awfully anti-American to me. - cloudberries, on 10/13/2008, -0/+31Sources?
Oh wait... sorry - I mistook you for someone with sources. My bad. - BobMysterioso, on 10/13/2008, -3/+34"We don't even know where Senator Obama was really born."
Well, since he's running for president of the United States - he was born in one of the 50 states. Which one? Well that doesn't make any difference but you can't be born in another country and be President. - Volatile36, on 10/13/2008, -1/+31A coworker of mine (he's a huge appeaser, by the way, and will say anything to make you like him) said a couple weeks ago that he was voting for Obama. It was probably only because I was talking about how I was glad he did so well in the debate. Well, this week he comes back with "I saw Obama say in an interview that he won't say the pledge of allegiance." I said "that's a ridiculous lie." He said, "No, I saw it on tv." Tonight he told me that he "heard it from a lot of people" instead of seeing it on television and even though it's not true he still won't be voting for Obama. There have been door to door people running around this town for a couple of weeks for the Republican party.
I really wish I could burn down the whole place. These idiots really have the run of my town. Rural So. Oregon sucks. Thank goodness for Portland and her voting Democrat majority population. - inactive, on 10/13/2008, -4/+34You know what I think is bizarre - at least here on Digg, the conservatives always, always, always defend this kind of behavior. I have never once heard a conservative say "Look, McCain's got the ideas we need to turn this country around - that said, though, the smear tactics are just wrong." I just think that's weird, the seemingly universal lack of scruples. I mean, I see someone unfairly bashing McCain, I make it a point to correct them - even though I disagree with McCain's policies, some of the things being said about him here on Digg are just completely wrong. So where's the reciprocation?
- magus_melchior, on 10/13/2008, -0/+29"I also volunteer for Obama and we have been told in no uncertain terms that NO negative talk about McCain or Palin is allowed while we are calling people or registering voters."
Well, I'm glad I didn't volunteer to canvas/call, then, because I would be ranting at everyone after the fraudulent "sex ed" ad. - inactive, on 10/13/2008, -1/+29Dear John McCain.
I really used to look up to you sir, but I find it repulsive that you would endorse what you know in your heart to be wrong. Your actions have stained any credibility you have had with me and my family who have severed in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and The Gulf War.
I believe you honestly knew the American people where sold on a basis of fear to go to War when there was conclusive evidence, well before hand, that Iraq did not impose an imminent threat to the US. and now our sons and daughters are paying for those lies with their lives!
You should be ashamed sir! And I am ashamed for you! I looked up to you to be honest with the American people and speak out for what YOU believed in, instead of the monetary purpose of selling your book(s). I find absolutely no Patriotism in your actions!
I ask you to turn this situation around, by coming forward and telling the American people what really happened and what you really feel in your heart, because at this point all my belief in the good you have done for this country is in vain.
Thank you for reading and replying.
John Henderson, family member of many who have served. - TexasShiv, on 10/13/2008, -4/+32Palins a retard
I love my generation
/no sarcasm. - LostOnion, on 10/13/2008, -4/+31I haven't heard one iota of personal attacks from Obama or Biden against the Republican ticket. Win or lose Obama will end the campaign with his dignity in tact.
- magus_melchior, on 10/13/2008, -4/+31Isn't this a bit like intellectual terrorism? Isn't this a bit like strapping figurative bombs on your associates and blowing up the intelligence and rational thinking of common citizens, while at the same time torpedoing your political career?
- outkaster, on 10/13/2008, -0/+26It was rush limbaugh who started that bomb the pentagon thing. (He doesn't deserve to have his name capitalized)

John McCain/John Wayne Gacy
See how stupid that is? - tastypaste, on 10/13/2008, -0/+24Rush Limbaugh is an enemy of America and no one should be listening to him.
- thecatcantalk, on 10/13/2008, -3/+27EVERY year, ever since the first time Reagan broke all his campaign promises during his first 6 months in office. Remember how Reagan promised not to mess with Grandma's Medicare coverage, and then slashed it to the bone? And even before Reagan: "I am not a crook."
"Read my lips. No new taxes." Remember that whopper? That was the Bush who wasn't a dirtbag.
"It'll be a cakewalk. They'll be throwing flowers at us"
"America doesn't torture."
"The fundamentals of our economy are sound."
***** off, GOP. You've totally destroyed your own credibility. - inactive, on 10/13/2008, -1/+25"Obama believes he has the right to force others to live their lives according to his beliefs."
You mean, like forcing a no abortion law on woman? - Stavrosian, on 10/13/2008, -0/+23Lies from a Republican regarding the 2008 campaign? WHAT AN INCREDIBLE SHOCK!
Excuse me while I regain my composure, so rattled to the core am I by a McCain supporter using an unsubstantiated, completely baseless "Obama is worse" smear. This is truly a first. - inactive, on 10/13/2008, -4/+26These people are absolute scum! This is why we have to ignore the polls and make sure EVERYONE VOTES on NOVEMBER 4th!!!
Think about volunteering for the campaign too.....everyone is real nice and if you don't want to a Obama office you can do it from home(barackobama.com click on neighbor to neighbor). Talk your friends and family into voting for Obama(know the issues....they are all on his site) and make sure they all VOTE! - zeusthemoose, on 10/13/2008, -2/+24Your comment is one of the most ***** retarded things on the internet. Congratulations! You win the prize!
- algaeturd, on 10/13/2008, -3/+25No surprise here. Same disgusting tactics, same *****, same hate, bile and hypocrisy.
These people are despicable. - MoneyTutor, on 10/13/2008, -4/+25I agree wholeheartedly with magus_melchior - Yes this is terrorism. McCain has more terrorist tendencies and is currently recruiting and brainwashing his followers just like Jim Jones.
- jmnormand, on 10/13/2008, -0/+21"We don't even know where Senator Obama was really born."
It is sad when the people behind the campaign do not even know the constitution. Do they think he was born in the middle east??? - davewashere, on 10/13/2008, -2/+23You forgot the next sentence, which I think is just as important:
As for the lady of the house? McCain, the man said. "She has to live here. The kids I can kick out."
I guess conservatve Virginian men can still choose who their wives vote for. - bbqsalad, on 10/13/2008, -2/+23lmao! more ignorance from amightyracist! Palin is hurting your party more than anyone. Polls are way in our favor. You're finished! Looks like hate looses this time.
- theWaterboy, on 10/13/2008, -3/+23Ok, let me compare Barak Obama and Osama Bin Laden:
Most important fact: Barak Obama is a good, intelligent person who cares about the average American, Osama is just like John McCain and Sarah Palin in that he pursues his own agenda at the cost of American lives
So, that means McCain and Palin ARE terrorists, and are no different from Osama Bin Laden!
See how this pretzel logic works? You can even use it against the evil power of the GOP terrorist organization (since they're like Osama). - morden, on 10/13/2008, -6/+26From the end of the article:
" Still, the yard signs we saw suggested that this was in fact a neighborhood divided. We discovered that was true when we approached another house on the list and found a father and son raking the front yard. "I'm voting for McCain," the father told us. But his 19-year-old son, a college student home for the weekend, told us he plans to send in his absentee ballot for Obama. His reason? "Palin's a retard," he said. As for the lady of the house? McCain, the man said. "She has to live here. The kids I can kick out." "
Yikes. And this is the party throwing sexism charges? - BrewBeau, on 10/13/2008, -0/+20Ha. Nice try Faulk28. What you meant to say is that McCain is finally using the tactics that Karl Rove used against him in 2000 and Kerry in 2004. Only, this time it's either too late or people are starting to wake up.
- mikesoba, on 10/13/2008, -5/+24McCain is a dishonest and dishonorable man.
Palin is a dim wit. - zenbud, on 10/13/2008, -3/+22It must. Saturdays in the suburbs aren't the ideal time to find people at home. I followed Brian to 13 houses on his list, and no one answered at 10 of them. (He left an Obama brochure in the door of each.) At one, the woman at the door told him she was "leaning" toward McCain, though I thought she seemed more settled in her decision than that. At another, a teen-aged girl told him: "My dad is a super-strong Republican. You're probably at the wrong house." (He duly marked that down, to save future canvassers the trouble.) Still, the yard signs we saw suggested that this was in fact a neighborhood divided. The kids I can kick out."
Can't make this stuff up. Go OBAMA/BIDEN 08!!!! - drlha, on 10/13/2008, -0/+19At least one smart Republican friend of mine is voting Obama, so maybe if we get the thinking Republicans to, it'll be an easy victory. BTW Palin was what pushed him over to the other side, and I'm guessing that's not uncommon. Smart move McCain advisors (I can't imagine that McCain was the one who picked Palin in a second).
- Mejari, on 10/13/2008, -0/+19You know who else is old? Anthony Hopkins.
Who did Anthony Hopkins play in a movie? Hannibal Lecter
Now, I'm not saying McCain eats human flesh and internal organs.... - ragingflamerboy, on 10/13/2008, -3/+21How mentally retarded are you? Obama's a white person. AND a black person.
Both at the same time. -
