- acmjbishop, on 12/18/2008, -0/+11This is FREAKING ridiculous! Those vile Agricultural Dept. officers who sent the police state in should lose their jobs. This is not NAZI Germany you scum buckets!
- gunjam, on 12/18/2008, -0/+9Unbelievable! Shades of the Soviet Union and the proverbial "knock at midnight." What kind of creeps are these cops who draw their guns on unarmed toddlers?

The issue appears to be the discovery of a bit of non-institutional beef in an Oberlin College food service freezer a year ago that was tracked down by a county sanitation official to Manna Storehouse. Oberlin College’s student food coop is widely known for its strident ideological stance about eating organic foods. It seems that the Oberlin student food cooperative had joined the Manna Storehouse food cooperative in order to buy organic foods in bulk from the national organic food distributor United, which services buying clubs across the nation. The sanitation official, James Boddy, evidently contacted the Ohio Department of Agriculture. After the first contact by state ODA officials, Manna Storehouse reportedly wrote them a letter requesting assistance and guidelines for complying with the law. This letter was never answered. Rather, the ODA agent tried several times to infiltrate the coop, as described above. When his attempts failed, the SWAT team showed up! - gunjam, on 12/18/2008, -0/+8I'd like to meet one of these cops and ask him: "have you ever had to pull your gun on anyone in the line of duty?" and watch him squirm:"Yes, on a three-year-old!" America's finest? I certainly hope not!
- Hagion, on 12/18/2008, -0/+8Okay - this is completely out of control. I think that the names of every officer involved in the raid should be made public. Not so that anyone could cause physical harm but so that every privately owned business in their communities could refuse to serve them in any way. Community shunning has its place. These officer are despicable. They cannot hide behind, "I was just following orders." We expect far more from our military and our police. Those in leadership should be fires and subjected to very heavy civil penalties. This terrorist act and all like them should be met with event greater retribution so that it never happens again. Our police departments have far, far to much power.
- RSandman, on 12/18/2008, -0/+6Oh my God, what have we allowed to happen to the once inviolable respect for the rule of law?
I'm absolutely dumbfounded - this is the kind of thing you expect "crazies" to rant about, that "could" happen someday, and you dismiss them thinking "not in America, our police wouldn't stand for an order to do something stupid and illegal like that - especially not unless the place was an armed drug factory or something."
Welcome to the new America, apparently, where any insane government department official can order the police to do just about anything, up to and including a SWAT-type raid, of a peaceful private family sharing food.
Oh - and steal their food.
and their home computer.
and their cell-phones.
and anything else they find 'interesting' while they are there illegally.
I just heard that if found to be irrelevant as evidence in a "case" (though no case exists here) the police can profit from their theft by "legally" auctioning off this family's private property and keeping the proceeds?
I want a follow-up story (after a FOIA request?) naming every single member of that team. We need to know every "public servant" who failed to demand that they be at least briefed on the "probable cause" or any evidence of any alleged 'danger' these victims posed to police that would warrant such a raid.
This should have - if ANYTHING - been a polite visit by some clerk with a clipboard, asking nicely for an interview to determine whether OR NOT their "operation" required any kind of permit, or qualified for assistance from the state to ensure they had help setting up a small business, and any 'inspections' that could be helpful next year....THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! - mlgraham, on 12/18/2008, -0/+5Did the raiders show their Monsanto OR archer daniels Midlands credentials?
Since when has good food been illegal?
The police state is alive and well in Ohio! - AwthrAwthr, on 12/19/2008, -0/+4Sheesh! Would that our law enforcement people would be as assertive in obtaining Obama's actual birth certificate.
This is like a cop coming up to your car door with his pistol pointed at your nose shouting, "Hey, your tail light is out! May I see your license and registration?"
The best to you.

Together we can cure cancer - one person at a time! - mattalice, on 12/19/2008, -0/+4The goal of every modern day politician especially the dems and including the republicans now. CONTROL. You are not your own. The government wants control over you and your actions.
Use your second amendment rights. Arm yourself and don't let someone break in without shooting them. Come to my house and enter illegally. I WILL SHOOT YOU. - fromthinair, on 12/18/2008, -0/+4God help us. If there were any rule of law left in this country, everyone involved in this crime would lose their jobs and go to jail. It reminds me of what they did to those poor Mormon families in Texas. I may not like their lifestyle, but that doesn't mean they have no civil rights. But that judge and her henchmen carry on to this day and have no consequences for their crimes against the innocent women and children. How long before they come for the rest of us?
- inactive, on 12/18/2008, -0/+4Now you see how feudalism works. Welcome to serfdom.
- e2thexyz, on 12/19/2008, -0/+3We all need to support our local co-ops and not go running scared and hiding because of this. Do what McCain told us to do (but won't do himself), "Fight! Fight! Fight!" This country was started by a revolution against the very sort of government ours is becoming now. The harsh reality is that freedom in this world isn't free and requires constant diligence to hold back the forces that would have all but the so called "elite" shackled and powerless.
- whosiwhatzit, on 12/18/2008, -0/+3Outrageous! This is what you can expect when citizens are made into "subjects" by an overreaching government. THIS is why we have (should I say had) a Constitution. These people's rights were trampled and justice should be done to right the wrong done to them. Justice seems in short supply these days. I surely hope that they get their fair share and the "violators" punished for their wrongs.
With the mindset of the liberals running the US House and Senate and the new socialist administration prepared to take office soon, I expect we will see much more of this sort of thing - in all sorts of areas. Of course the MSM won't report it - they've become part of a propaganda machine designed to help turn America into a socialist state. The only place you'll hear about peaceful people being abused by the government will be the internet. If it does rise to the level of awareness that the propagandists have to report it, the characters of the peaceful people will be brought into question and most likely they will be slandered.
We've allowed the government to have FAR too much power and instead of a peaceful society, we are finding that we are ruled by government bureaucrats with little to no legal recourse when they abuse their power.
Once the socialists start the big "change", you should expect the iron fist of government power to come down on you hard if you don't do as you are told. The slightest violation will be used to make an example.
This is not the first abuse and it certainly won't be the last. The government demands your servitude and since they have superior firepower, they intend to enforce it. Remember Ruby Ridge and Waco. Your tax dollars at work. - e2thexyz, on 12/19/2008, -0/+3Romans 12:21 "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
Matthew 5:44 "But I [Jesus] say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, .."
Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places].”
Fight in the courts, yes, but the fight starts with the "sword of the Spirit" -- that is the Word of G-d. Our weapons/armor also include faith, love, prayer, and worship of the LORD. - Isaiah536, on 12/19/2008, -0/+3Found in part in The New American, Nov.10,2008
From Henry Morgenthau to Henry Paulson
WRITTEN BY WILLIAM F. JASPER
FRIDAY, 31 OCTOBER 2008 00:58
Of course, admissions such as those by Morgenthau and Perkins did not publicly surface until years after the fact. Likewise, it was decades later when the secret, decoded NSA transcripts known as the Venona documents were released, confirming that high-level Roosevelt administration officials and some of FDR's most intimate confidants were actually Soviet agents. Like the Henny Penny of childhood fable, Morgenthau had his Turkey Lurkey, Goosey Poosey, and Cocky Locky. As it turns out, his policies aimed at nationalizing and socializing our economy had, for the most part, been hatched by his right-hand man, communist agent Harry Dexter White. And the AAA, which sent an army of bureaucrats onto America's farms to confiscate, slaughter, and bury millions of pigs and cattle and millions of tons of grains and produce while much of America went hungry — well, those grand schemes under Agriculture Secretary Henry Wallace (an ardent and professed socialist) were the brainchildren of actual Soviet agents in the Agriculture Department such as Lee Pressman, Nathan Witt, Donald Hiss, Victor Perlo, and John Abt. - 520Randal, on 12/19/2008, -0/+3Welcome to 14th Amendment "citizenship"! You left your "rights" at the door when you agreed to similar "privilages" in the name of "security".
The jack-booted thugs were only carrying out YOUR mandate, that you be "protected" from dangerous, improperly processed foods. Without the proper preserviatives, who knows how fast it (they) might 'spoil'.
Seriously, we need to take our country back. This garbage goes on far too much and too often. We really didn't sign up for it, it has been snuck in on us, and we need to throw it off.
Randy - mattalice, on 12/19/2008, -0/+3Wikipedia is junk. Quoting it as a valid website is ignorant. You need other sources that can be actually verified.
- drachemorder, on 12/19/2008, -0/+2Soviet Union, Gestapo, you name it. This is tyranny! No more and no less than pure unadulterated tyranny! This was a private co-op, not a public market or anything like that where the government might conceivably have jurisdiction. This was entirely private and none of the government's business in any way! Whoever is responsible for this ought to be fired immediately and prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law for the egregious abuse of his authority.
- 520Randal, on 12/19/2008, -0/+2Since it fails to have the correct chemical 'coctail' in it!
- anticom, on 12/21/2008, -0/+1I really doubt they did anything of the sort in Nazi Germany. Well, unless it was a Jewish establishment, of course.
- LordWillPrevail, on 12/20/2008, -0/+1We need to start a grassroots organization and raise money for victims like these and other God fearing people that are being abused by Big Brother so they can take the individual police officers, state officials, etc. to civil court and sue them for everything they have. We know there will no criminal charges brought against them. This is only one step to deter them from complete Nazism and Communism. We can get all worked and complain but if we don't start praying and planning to fight back then we are useless to the Almighty.
contact:thomallar@hotmail.com - ScottyDog1, on 12/20/2008, -0/+1IT is time to implement the provisions of the second amendment since the Congress seems to refuse to do its job and is occupied by criminals not statesman. We need to start forming the militias in the various states then go to capitol hill and arrest the criminals since the DOJ has no clue and is occupied by the same vermin.
When is enough people, they are currently stealing all of our money and giving it to CFR companies and banks. This is grand theft of the worse kind.
Some of us kept warning you about the new world order run by the Rockefeller's. - e2thexyz, on 12/20/2008, -0/+1This great country wouldn't even exist if godly people hadn't fought and killed the enemy and hadn't given their own lives to establish and defend liberty.
Loving your human enemy doesn't mean doing things their way, but praying that G-d will have mercy on them. G-d doesn't take pleasure in the destruction of the wicked but would rather they turn to Him, so we pray that they will turn.
However, our real enemy is satan, so we use the the Word by having faith in declaring it, and by worshiping the LORD with hearts that have been cleansed by His sacrificial Blood. Our fight is against spiritual forces, and there are human casualties. When we beat back the wicked in heavenly places, the human casualties will decrease. - MeredithGary, on 12/19/2008, -1/+1I'm sure the police-state tactics are completely justifiiable. After all, those people might have been Republicans, a crime in Ohio. It was only this week that three dedicated public servants in the state lost their jobs just for trying to protect the nation from Joe the Plumber. So it's understandable why the courageous bureaucrats in the state's agriculture dept. wisely chose to send in the jack boots.
- EdgarSimons, on 12/20/2008, -0/+0sounds like Alex Jones was right, is Jamie starting to believe
- aerobic777, on 12/19/2008, -0/+0You are correct but Christ commands us to defend our families. If the courts don't work pistols will. Also even the Catochism of the Catholic Church states that armed force CAN be used but only when all other avenues (courts, etc) have been exhausted.
God bless us all - aerobic777, on 12/19/2008, -0/+0Evevtually, these bastards will get shot and put in wheelchairs forever, by good citizens who have just had enough and nothing left to lose. This time seems to be approaching. Imagine thousands of jack boot thugs, or members of their families, in wheelchairs -- papapalegic or quadrapalegic, as reminders to oppressive government bodies to not mess with Americans' Constitutional rights. God forbid it, but it seems to be coming this way.
- inactive, on 12/19/2008, -2/+1You had better pay the Kosher Tax, or else!
Just look at what you can get away with if you throw some money at the right rabbi:

Why not just make life easier and go along with paying every time you eat?
