- Apokalyps2547, on 10/10/2007, -4/+130Wow, I HAD wanted to assume he was just stupid... but now he can't even feign ignorance. He's just a war profiteer.
This ISN'T mainstream media yet, though. - theNazz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+108Cheney went to work for Haliburton in 1995... that is what changed his opinion of an Iraq invasion.
- johnburk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+102Cheney did predict exactly what was going to happen...
- Rsardinia, on 10/10/2007, -5/+72Well of course it would be. Anyone with half a brain knows Iraq is a quagmire for invasion. However, he said this in 1994 when he wasn't vice president. Halliburton wouldn't have been the company contracted to do work in Iraq then. Now that he's the main man, all contracted work in the middle east goes directly through Halliburton and the profits of those government contracts goes directly to Cheney's pocket. So yes, it's still a quagmire, but now its a quagmire thats made him 100s of millions of dollars if not more, who knows how much that guy is really taking in.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+50There are a few stories that I don't mind seeing on the front page more than once.
And this is one of them. - cactus476, on 10/10/2007, -1/+47Direct link to video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BEsZMvrq-I - ramong, on 10/10/2007, -4/+50The difference is that we wasn't gonna get paid if the US invaded in 91.....
- roguepirate, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40in 10 years, history books will describe how YouTube changed politics like tv did. :/

Looks pretty genuine to me. - seandfeeney, on 10/10/2007, -1/+34for those who don't know what a quagmire is:
A quagmire (from "quake" + "mire") is, literally, shaky, miry ground; as a political term used to describe a foreign military campaign in which there is either no foreseeable possibility of victory or the objectives are unclearly defined, and at the same time no clear exit strategy has been formulated in the absence of victory. The military campaign is likened to a kind of swamp or marsh in which the warring nation is unable to remove itself.
it's not just a guy on the family guy... - rnwen2750, on 10/10/2007, -5/+35That's cos he's Voldemort.
- Zippo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28Funny how things change, huh. Bush had similar opinions back in 2000.
The Bush administration is so ***** corrupt and war-hungry it's not funny. - agentVivid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+28i guess they got a better cost-benefit analysis 10 years later... perhaps the value of an american life has gone down since this interview?
- syntex, on 10/10/2007, -12/+34If this is genuine, and I wouldn't be surprised, it only shows how far downhill we've gone in 9 years.
Cheney of course was talking about the 1991 war there. - sahyder1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22Don't you hate it when your own words come back to haunt you?
- understudy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24Busted!
_ - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19"editor and publisher" is a trade magazine for the news business, kinda like a industry source for people who are in the news business.
- MindTrigger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17The point is, these ***** knew exactly what would happen if we went in there, and they did it anyway. As with everything else, follow the money (and power grab) and see who benefits from this war.
- TheLoneHoot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18Well over half a million people dead... no DICK, war is not cheap.
- Andy.D, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16I wish this would count as "proof" to the wingnuts, but it won't. I've already heard the excuse, namely that Iraw was stronger then than it was now, etc.. Obviously Cheney has been wrong this time, regardless of what he said in the past.
- jdenzer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17I think he meant since the invasion of Iraq 2003, so 2003-1994 is 9 yrs.
- postal21, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Whats crazy is how perfectly intelligent this response is. I mean we all assume they know whats right/wrong but for misguided power-grabs and other reasons leaders do things that seem irrational. But wow, he really knew exactly what would happen.
So then we stand at a point... is it even scarier now that he REALLY knew what would happen when we did this? - seandfeeney, on 10/10/2007, -9/+23gigity gigity oooooright...
- digghasnoethics, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Why do people keep assuming that Cheney et al didn't WANT a quagmire?
If you look at the decisions that were taken, the actions that made no sense in the context of Vietnam, you have to assume they got exactly what they engineered - reason to be in Iraq, in force, for at least a decade. The real question is why they wanted that. - malacor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12America needs a boy who lived
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Was he warning, or promising? I mean, nothing like a good war for business.
- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11We? you mean Cheney and company.. cause surely im not gettin paid, but more like PAYING for a war with my tax dollars =/
- itseffinkasey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Just goes to show how much money can change a man, and how far lobbyists can push a man.
- Deliman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10So the question remains. Why did Cheney flip?
- thatbuncha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9moreso...that is what PAID for his change of opinion.
- Wolfboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Editor & Publisher is not "mainstream media," although many people in the "mainstream media" industry read it. Maybe the MSM will pick it up tomorrow.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Why wait till four years later to leak this? It's a bit late to get all, "I TOLD YOU SO!" or "I knew he was evil.". Too late.

Some Analysts See Iraq War Eclipsing Toll from Vietnam
by Thomas E. Ricks
http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/200601017_655000_iraq_war_deaths/
655,000 Iraq War Deaths
http://www.rinf.com/columnists/news/how-many-americans-have-really-died-in-iraq
I have read a report that reads: “The actual death toll is in excess of 10,000. (See the official records at the end of this piece.) Given the officially acknowledged number of over 15,000 seriously wounded (and a published total of 25,000 wounded overall,), this elevated death toll is far more realistic than the current 2,700+ now being officially published.” - deathproof, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8That was when he didnt have the power to subcontract for war profits.
- SaturatedCats, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10fail
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -8/+169 years? 1994 was 13 years ago, bud.
- littleblckheart, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Or how about that it's not a duplicate per se? If you actually read the description and followed the link, you'd realize this was posted in regards to the video getting attention outside of the Digg circle.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/192908_cheney29.html - dohidied, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6But but but....9/11 changed everything!
/sarcasm - sodoh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Actually he gets deferred income from them and still has a large number of stocks, which made over 3000% profit just after the start of the Iraq war. It is not about "Making Money", what is being described is "Profiteering". That is putting aside the fact that only a short while ago Halliburton closed up shop in Iran and also over charged the US military (in some cases double the price).
You also forgot to mention that a lot of the contracts Halliburton got were no-bid contracts. - knomevol, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6and the truth shall set you free
