- flohoff60, on 09/10/2008, -18/+206It's time Americans wake up! The Third parties are coming together in a common cause. LIBERTY!
- iMattK, on 09/10/2008, -16/+189I'm not a huge fan of Ron Paul, but I admire him for sticking to his guns by not endorsing either senator.
- Stryder81, on 09/10/2008, -8/+129LOL, I love this man!
Very interesting stuff on the debates and how they are run for those of you that don't understand why the 3rd parties aren't in the debates.
I just ordered that Tragedy & Hope book, alot of positive reviews about it on Amazon.
Look at Paul, instead of being selfish, the man comes and brings all the 3rd party candidates together to give em exposure and unify the outsiders, He really is the Universal Soldier. - badassninja, on 09/10/2008, -4/+94"Oh you are trying to hurt the Repulicans... I'm not trying to hurt anybody, I'm trying to save the Country!" Great to hear it from his own lips, we all know this, this is why we love him so much.
- dugdiggsdigg, on 09/10/2008, -7/+75Breaking news! The two party system is really a one party system.
Wondering if Chuck Baldwin was left out of the article on purpose. - AlexBirch, on 09/10/2008, -3/+64Ron Paul is a brutal realist and a compassionate idealist. He fights and lives for his principles. That alone is worth respect in my book.
- TruthisTreason, on 09/10/2008, -5/+62The real news of the day!
- Minarchian, on 09/10/2008, -3/+49Anyone have the complete video?
- Jassman, on 09/10/2008, -4/+51Two party systems negate the need for a platform to run on. All you have to do in a two party election is sling mud at the one person who is your opposition.
- DragonGirl724, on 09/10/2008, -12/+56whats NOT to like about Ron Paul?
- mfc5200, on 09/11/2008, -1/+44I love the logic.
60% of the population votes, so roughly 30% of the population votes D and the other half votes R in the Presidential races.
Now, only half of those who vote, actually like the candidate, the other just doesn't like the other candidate. For example, only half of the Republicans who voted in 2000 actually liked Bush, the other half just didn't like Gore, so they voted for Bush.
So essentially, Bush was put into office with 15% of the voters actually liking him. Think about that for a second. Let it sink in.
Because of all this ***** about "lesser of two evils" "don't waste your vote on a third party" "spoilers" (aka all the MSM propaganda) our Presidents are elected with only 15% of the population being content with their vote.
To me that seems like we have a fundamental problem. And I think we need to fix this. The voting structure is obviously fundamentally flawed. The two party Presidential system is obviously flawed. There are different voting structures that exist:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voting#Types_of_votes
Maybe we should consider one of those instead.
Maybe we should add a "no confidence" box on every single ballot, and if that result is higher than 50% neither candidate can be elected. I don't know what the answer is, but the idea that someone is President of our country with only 15% of the vote, is nuts. - cubajournal, on 09/10/2008, -6/+48I like Ron Paul. He is right when he says that our currency has been totally debased by the politicians of the two major capitalist parties. But that is a secondary issue for me. I like Ron because he is opposed to the failed Cuba embargo. George W. Bush says 'keep the embargo.' John McCain says 'keep the embargo', Hillary and Bill Clinton say 'keep the embargo.' Along comes Barack Obama and says "ME TOO!" That is not change I can believe in. Most likely I will vote for the candidate of a third party, most likely the candidate of the Socialist Party of Florida.
- blinkerbug, on 09/10/2008, -2/+43Please watch the video.. please understand that keeping the third parties out of the debates only protects the two parties. Understand that the majority of the people in the US do not agree with the two parties and therefore having a political system with ONLY the two parties as options is not democratic.
- Jassman, on 09/10/2008, -4/+37It's amazing that you can be this retarded and still be able to type and get on the internet.
- muckemuck, on 09/10/2008, -3/+31Get busy.. spread this around and sign it: http://opendebates.org/yourrole/petition/
and call the Commission on Presidential Debates (202) 872-1020 and ask them to include the third party candidates (name them). They say they're keeping a tally to see if this really is an "issue". - mediaspree, on 09/11/2008, -4/+29Id really rather Ron Paul announce for a third party run. These other jokers don't really impress me as much as him.
- Minarchian, on 09/10/2008, -1/+24The libertarian spirit is alive in the Republican Party and Palin is libertarian?
Ok...What's the punchline? - latrosicarius, on 09/11/2008, -3/+23@ kelt65
the DOE for one is a huge sham. 30 years ago they said nuclear fusion would be achievable in 30 years. Now they expect just another 30.
Tokamak fusion is a horible idea, yet they won't fund any other more realistic fusion technologies like IEC or Dense Plasma Focus because they don't want to admit to being on the wrong path for all these years:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inertial_electrostati ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dense_plasma_focus
As for the FDA, it does two main things: approvals of products, and inspections of facilities. Both of these things could be done better by independent consortium, like the IEEE does with electronics and the W3 does with the Internet. If an organization like that was formed, it would be most likely sponsored by a group of large companies who would get together and provide this service. They would say that they are doing it to ensure quality standards, but the no BS reason would be because it makes them look good, and increases the name recognition and respectability of their individual companies.
The consortium would, of course have no legal recourse to order a dirty food establishment to close, but they could remove their label from the store and products of the company unless it complies with their set health standards. Companies would naturally want to display the label prominently as it would be one of the first thigns consumers would look for before buying a food product or patronizing a restaurant. - theaverageidiot, on 09/11/2008, -3/+23@pintomp3: Are you talking about Ron Paul? Because I'm not quite sure all those things are true at all if you are talking about him.
- tcbishop12, on 09/10/2008, -5/+26Ron Paul: No Way, No How: No McCain. No Palin.
- theaverageidiot, on 09/11/2008, -15/+34@gotacalc: What are you talking about? What is there to be FOR with Obama? I was under the impression that most people who like Ron Paul can't stand McCain OR Obama.
Besides, nobody likes Obama. Digg makes people think they like Obama. Nobody actually likes him.
And people hate McCain without digg anyways.
:p - Kitch05, on 09/11/2008, -0/+18Our present system treated Ron Paul terribly! We need a good house cleaning in Washington and probably in our of our towns too. Lets get moving!
- Hangly, on 09/11/2008, -1/+19Factions in the Chinese Communist Party have more diverse views than the Republicans and Democrats.
Not being hyperbolic, it's true. - bigbenorr, on 09/11/2008, -1/+19@latrosicarius: most intelligent suggestion on this thread.
IMO: almost every time the government decides to create some massive department to regulate or support a certain industry, (like energy) they end up ***** it up even worse than it is. Greed is what should drive our economy, it may not sound all nice and wholesome but it gets ***** done. - flohoff60, on 09/10/2008, -10/+28Oh Gosh..........Liberty Forever the brainwashing goes very deep
- bigbenorr, on 09/11/2008, -0/+17He didn't run third party because he is a republican. however since he is unable to run as a republican and he believes the republican candidate is not a republican at all, he endorses third party candidates.
- Hangly, on 09/11/2008, -2/+18Suck it, McCain.
- torie2690, on 09/11/2008, -1/+17I do detest the two-party system.
Bob Barr 2008 - twoofmyfriends, on 09/11/2008, -3/+20McCain got owned.
- georgemason01, on 09/10/2008, -0/+16He worked within the Republican party since the 1970's. His being a Republican is definitely what allowed him to become more mainstream after running for President this election, but I think at this point he's doing the right thing with the influence he has to help break the two-party gridlock.

Still looking for the whole thing. - ErickStevenson, on 09/11/2008, -2/+17Good for Paul... I see some McCain supporters are a bit riled up.
- Shroommaster, on 09/11/2008, -2/+17Its to bad Ron Paul chose not to run third party, it would of made it a lot easier to decide who to vote for. Two people that aren't getting my vote are Obama and McCain.
- inactive, on 09/11/2008, -3/+17Even worse, I buried you as Herkimer56.
- americangoy, on 09/10/2008, -2/+16Good on You, Dr. Paul!
Now don't be afraid - go after the lobbies, especially AIPAC and its ilk.
Go on now - the media has its script written already, and you, alongside my heroes Mike Gravel and Cynhia McKinney are "crazy".
Nothing to lose now and we need You, Dr. Paul. - inactive, on 09/11/2008, -2/+15latrosicariuslatrosicarius ,
DOE = Department of Education.
The department that brings the standards down for everyone so that no child gets left behind.
The department that won't fire bad teachers.
The department that believes in drugging children for bad behavior. - Jassman, on 09/10/2008, -2/+14Rockstar VP? Lady liberty? Give me a break. We can't possibly be looking at the same Republican party.
I perceive them as a group of hypocritical, power-addicted, war drum-beating, anti-intellectual, lunatics foaming at the mouth at the thought of stealing more civil liberties and going into more wars paid for by monopoly money.
You, on the other hand, seem to see them as these patriotic, limited government supporting liberty lovers.
I was going to say "Have you been awake for the past 7 and a half years?", but that would be misleading. It's not like the Republican party was some new car in good working condition when they handed Bush the keys. You've been propagandized. - Atmeh, on 09/11/2008, -1/+12RP is right, and fear of deregulating FDA and DOE is cowardice. We need to fill the hole the R&D has dug.
- Minishark, on 09/11/2008, -2/+13"You have to vote for one of us. It's a two party system!"
"No, we can vote for a third party."
"Go ahead...throw your vote away! BWAHAHAHA!" - asus2000, on 09/11/2008, -2/+13I will not vote for either Obama or McCain. The two-party system is a trap and these top-tier candidates are placed there by the CFR, who's intention is to enslave the world.

- chmcarro, on 09/11/2008, -0/+11It's deception. He knows very well what he is doing. With a derogatory name like 'Paultard', it will be impossible to reason with him. I would argue that it's best to ignore these type of comments on Digg unless you think you maybe able to change their opinion or you can directly counter their negative claim with respect.

.............................. - SouthsideIrish, on 09/11/2008, -0/+10Ron Paul is a man of principle, you might not like what he stands for, but at least you know who he is. McCain, unlike Ron has no principles. I will vote for the only man left that has any principles.
Nader / Gonzalez '08 - inactive, on 09/10/2008, -28/+38Quite a few things - I personally think he nuts for wanting to deregulate all industry completely (do away with FDA and DOE, for e.g.). You cannot have industrial capitalism with no oversight of corporations, it is just insane. He's also way too socially conservative for me.
Nevertheless, I WISH conservatives like Paul and liberals like Kucinich were the standard for discourse in this ***** crazy country. RP is someone I disagree with but he is in no way the ***** ***** most republicans are. Karl Rove's GOP has driven the politics of this country straight to the gutter, along with Limbaugh, Hannity, et. al. The internet hasn't helped either. - john2kx, on 09/11/2008, -1/+10McCain wouldn't understand the first thing Ron Paul stands for.
- Protonz, on 09/11/2008, -0/+9Socialist Party of Florida?
Well, at least it's 3rd party. But you should really look into libertarianism. The Dems and Repubs are both socialist parties. - Knowone, on 09/10/2008, -1/+10Dugg by my Cuban girlfriend and I. Cuba needs change and an embargo is not the solution. Look at communist China, why don't we have an embargo with them? China is benefiting and their economy is booming, slowly giving in to capitalistic ideals.
- Ebacherville, on 09/11/2008, -0/+9hello?
Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil.
Don't vote for evil. - WyoLars, on 09/11/2008, -1/+11Didn't the ewoks win the battle?
