If you are not appalled by the unbelievable gall this Senator (D) demonstrates in this video, I suggest you need to inspect your own political bias.
What he also fails to mention is that Rush Limbaugh is not only solely to thank for this, but he is also matching the winning bid. While Harry Reid suggests his political cohorts and friends should bid, what he fails to mention is perhaps he or any of the other 40 of his colleagues could simply put their money where their mouth is and match the funds like Rush did. Many on that list certainly have the means, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry come to mind immediately.
The next logical thing to ask is "how is the main stream media reporting about this?" Well ABC already has with this quality article: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/10/bi ... . Notice how they clearly spin the facts as well.
Perhaps it's finally time for us not only to inspect our own biases, but how they are influenced by a clearly biased media. Ask yourself, why wasn't there mainstream media coverage earlier in the week when the auction reached $800,000 almost immediately? Clearly that was a story worthy of much more attention than the normal boring nonsense on the morning news shows. Why didn't our media report on this?
I'm pretty sure I know why, do you? - jimmajamma, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3The links in my previous comment got broken somehow:

It seems it happened when I hit edit to remove the double line spacing - digg bug? - RichStradler, on 10/22/2007, -1/+2Harry Reid: "We did it for the children yeah, that's it, had it planned all long, and Rush, well he fell for it, yeah that's the ticket!"
- NewFax, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1Not to mention, how many of the children who will be the beneficiaries of this charity (Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation: for children of Marines or Federal law enforcement personnel who were killed on duty or died under extraordinary circumstances while serving our country at home or abroad) may qualify because the irresponsible - politically motivated - comments of the Democrats, like Harry "I believe ... that this war is lost" Reid were words of encouragement to the enemy in the first place?
The Reid comments captured in the C-Span video set a new low for shameless behavior and that is post BJC. - NewFax, on 10/23/2007, -2/+3
Although the story breaking around Sept. 24th or so about the many fake vets defrauding people and government programs by lying about serving overseas or ever being in the service at all did not receive much coverage in the mainstream media, it was covered by Charlie Gibson on ABC.
It was also the subject of Limbaugh's "morning update" for Tuesday 9/25 which he recorded on the afternoon of Monday the 24th
Gibson's expose on the Monday night before the subject call to Limbaugh's show on the 26th (I'm pretty sure) can be found at this link:
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=3645227
The Limbaugh caller who raised the subject of fake soldiers in the call that started this misrepresentation of what was said, said that he was currently in the service, in his 13th or 14th year, had done 2 tours in Iraq and had recently returned home in June.
This story 'broke' specifically at that time because the phony soldier, a soldier who told the World of horrible atrocities committed by him and fellow service people, Jesse MacBeth (sp?) had recently been proved to be lying. He had NEVER served in Iraq. And, I'm pretty sure around that time he had actually come out and apologized for the whole mess.
How do you apologize for firing up the enemy (at home and in the battle field) and causing the deaths and injuries of real servicemen and women?
His original lie which was picked up by worldwide media and spread like fire around the globe and of course used to try to beat up actual Americans (and probably the Coalition troops as well) who are bravely putting their lives on the line every minute of every hour of every day they serve to protect us and the World, was given a huge boost when US Congress-people used his lie to further bash real servicemen and servicewomen. - jimmajamma, on 10/23/2007, -1/+2at 1:30 : "When I spoke to Mark May, I think, he and I thought it probably wouldn't raise much money."
What is he saying right there? If that's not a technically a lie, it infinitely approaches a lie, which is the same thing.
at 3:39 : "more than 2 million dollars for a letter signed by me and my friends"

"The caption is a gross misrepresentation of the actual content of the video. He at no point in time implies that it was idea or intention to turn the letter into a fundraising vehicle. He simply admits that he feels it was a positive thing to do, and agrees with the charity that the money is going to."

Phony soldiers cost VA, tarnished medals
SEATTLE (AP) - Eight people who faked their military service in conflicts dating to World War II have been charged in the Northwest this year, and another four cases are under investigation, federal officials said Friday.
The fraudulent claims not only dishonored those who actually served, but also cost the Veterans Administration and other agencies more than $1.4 million in benefits, said Doug Carver, with the VA's Office of the Inspector General. There are dozens more cases pending across the country, he said.

Feds nab VA cheaters in 'Operation Stolen Valor'

SEATTLE - On the Internet in an anti-war video, 23-year old Jesse Macbeth of Tacoma is seen claiming to be an ex-Army Ranger, ordered to kill women and children in Baghdad.
But on Friday in Seattle Federal Court, Macbeth admitted it was all a lie as he was sentenced to prison and mental health treatment for submitting false information to the Veteran's Administration. - NewFax, on 10/22/2007, -1/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AC7Yk8eMh8E&mode=re ...
Be honest, can you honestly say that this guy's story, which was all over the media at the time, didn't cause the death of one American or Coalition service man or woman?
Did you hear the original story? Did you hear 'the rest of the story' (as Paul Harvey says) when Macbeth was convicted?
Why was the conviction of this sick (at best) liar not all over the news just like the original story? - PHiZ187, on 10/23/2007, -2/+2The caption is a gross misrepresentation of the actual content of the video.
