- EximiousPress, on 10/07/2008, -0/+34Out of touch, as usual. At the RNC a protester from Iraq Veterans Against the War shouted "McCain Votes Against Vets!" In response, the audience shouted "USA! USA! USA!" It's rare we get to experience something so wonderfully ironic.
- Macrophage, on 10/07/2008, -0/+31Kinda like his Naval Acad Grade.....D..yep figures
PEACE
John - neognostic, on 10/07/2008, -0/+24Republicans for McCain - Ignoramuses one and all.
- jodimcmullen, on 10/07/2008, -0/+15Besides all the lobbyist ties, it really bothers me that McCain isn't shouting at the top of his lungs about our use of torture and Guantanamo. If there is anyone who should be trying to stop it it seems like it would be him. No wonder our servicemen and women are grading him poorly and favor Obama by 2 to 1.
- rewinn, on 10/07/2008, -0/+15Pass it on --- and check out the site DIRECTLY: http://www.veteranreportcard.org/
- greenriverkate, on 10/07/2008, -0/+15As a past vet rep against the VA I do know John did NOT support anything for veterans. I met him years ago and today, I wouldn't waste my spit on him. All my vets are more than willing to help each other any way possible. Viet Nam vets had to get their own PTSD groups started without government help and they have the best groups in the country. I try to send these kids from Iraq out to find these guys because I know they will be welcomed and helped. Although my vets are truly patriotic and would support the President if needed, they are older and wiser now and can help so many of our kids from the 2 lousy wars we have going. John doesn't give a damn about ANY veterans unless they can get him ahead. His scene on tv saying the veterans know he loves them and will take care of them made me puke as it was totally self serving and shallow.. I hope the veterans get together, get the press and let the entire US know how this man really feels about our veterans. Everyone of our veterans deserve all we can give them.
- bitfreak, on 10/07/2008, -0/+11I'm a veteran of Iraq, and I would agree with that grade. McCain is no hero of mine.
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080814/military_donations. ... Soldiers donate 6x more to Obama than McSame. - Insightful, on 10/07/2008, -0/+10The Senators are judged based on the 9 key Senate votes.
McCain's (R-AZ) score: D
Obama's (D-IL) score: B
Biden's (D-DE) score: B
I am proud to say both of my State's Senators (D-CA) scored A+. - bitfreak, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7Debunked. Your source is the Navy Times, I'm sure they aren't 'biased' with McCain's naval background.
Associated Press: http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080814/military_donations. ... Obama got 6x more donations. Donations trump surveys. - algaeturd, on 10/07/2008, -0/+7No...no....McCain said in the first debate that the veterans LOVE him. It couldn't be...it couldn't be that he LIED, could it? McCain would never LIE to the American people!
- mbrownerhamlin, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5Sadly McCain was one of the key architects of the Military Commissions Act and the rules governing torture. In both cases, McCain helped moved forwards that you would think someone who experienced what he'd experienced would oppose.
- Insightful, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5You said: "active duty troops"
TFA said: "survey of nearly 4,300 *readers*"
Readers != active duty troops.
FAIL.
Military donations actually favor Obama 6:1 as previous post pointed out.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008 ... - BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1The Navy, Army and Air Force Times are not associated with the Department of defense. They are actually run by Gannett, which publishes USA Today.
- Hortnon, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1But assuming that they would choose the anti-war candidate is a baseless claim.
- metaliq, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1"The veterans know me. They trust me."
His strategy is to convince people (that aren't veterans) that they trust him. Veterans know who they trust.
This is exploitation. Shameless. - Hortnon, on 10/08/2008, -0/+1What does that have to do with improperly interpreted statistics?
- Hortnon, on 10/07/2008, -1/+2This is like the Ronbots claiming the same a year ago. It just doesn't work, because you can put anything or nothing in the "employer" box, so there's no way of knowing that the numbers are correct.
- CoolHandLuke70, on 10/24/2008, -0/+1I am sure that they were being nice too.
- Hortnon, on 10/07/2008, -1/+2The Military Times papers are actually ridiculously unbiased, surprisingly. They've printed stories that've gotten Generals fired before.
- LuaPron, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1Actually, Ron Paul was talking about one issue in particular that a lot of active duty troops have good reason to pay attention to - "the war". This was in context of deployments being extended, multiple scandals surrounding the Bush administration, and the fact that real war is not like movie war. It can be very aggravating to, whilst serving in uniform, find out that the president and his associates where spreading lies and distortions about the war your busy fighting.
Ron Paul was one of the few candidates who was taking a clear and consistent stand against war. He was also very visible on the internet, where things are much more open than TV. Ron Paul was also the only conservative running an anti-war campaign, which meant he had no competition in his niche. - LuaPron, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1I was not assuming that all military personnel are going to go for the anti-war candidate or that military members have a natural propensity to oppose war. I was suggesting that the conditions of the Iraq war contributed greatly to the decision, by many, to support Ron Paul.
The president has been known to lie, the war is exacerbating the terrorism problem, the deployments getting extended, major war crimes have been committed, and a whole lot of money is making its way toward corporations connected with the president and his friends. There are a lot of soldiers who are not blind to one or more of these factors. That is very likely where that statistic came from. - LuaPron, on 10/08/2008, -1/+1I am only suggesting that the context of military service has a lot to do with who military members would prefer to see win the election, and that things like "how many people put what in the employer box" is influenced by such factors.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/07/2008, -7/+1And yet McCain still has more support among active duty troops by a wide margin.

McCain, R-Ariz., handily defeated Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., 68 percent to 23 percent in a voluntary survey of 4,293 active-duty, National Guard and reserve subscribers and former subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times.
