- LeeSoong, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Well, Sciencetologists should get equal time to preach in the classroom,
and Buddhists meditation time, and Hamas equal recruiting time -
how about keeping your religion out of the classroom,
and we will promise to keep our brains out of your churches ? - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4"BTW, did you really believe you evolved from two monkey's banging each other in a tree?"
Is that really the limit of your understanding of natural selection? It's not my fault that you are stupid. - Vicujozobenaxod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1An unfortunately clear example of the attack on Christianity in this country. Just shameful.
- Stratochief66, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Attack on Christianity? What would have happened if an athiest went up and informed the crowd that God doesn't exist and they are all crazy for praying for sky fairies to make life better in his world view? Clearly this was not the right forum for anyone to preach their religious beliefs. I do agree with the commenters that say a muslim would have been allowed to say the same about Allah, but I don't think that would be right either, it would just have been allowed out of irrational fear of muslims.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2How about allowing me to opt out of paying the tax that supports the public schools that undermines the values of me and my family? A voucher system would be nice and quite equitable for all.
- LeeSoong, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2She should have started up by saying "Allahu Akbar" as loud as she could,
( http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allahu_Akbar )
Then follow it up with a Hindu Prayer,
and insist on 3 minutes of Silent Meditation on the Enlightenment of the Buddha:
Then explain that only herself, her family and her relatives are Truly God's Chosen people, and the rest of the school is a bunch of 'humanoid beasts' - animals without souls, and God of course is a flying spaghetti monster riding an invisible pink unicorn.
Finished off by explaining that Charles Darwin Was the second coming of Jesus Christ.
And SHE STILL Wouldn't have to apologize for anything whatsoever - and they STILL must give her the diploma she earned.
SUE THEM - The money earned could pay for her whole University education, a house, and a car...
BONG HITS FOR JESUS ! - Stratochief66, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Homeschool
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2The wall of separation of church and state was never mentioned in the Bill of Rights. It was mentioned in a letter from Thomas Jefferson. Do you think if the girl would have invoked the name of krishna, or allah, that she would have been forced to apologize? I don't think so. In an era that we as Americans are pussy-whipped into being frightened to offend the 'peaceful' muslims, had allah been invoked, there would have been nary a protest uttered by the school officials. The Bill of Rights stares that the government is not to establish a 'state' religion or prohibit the free exercise of that religion. In a time that educators are allowed to say what they wish about social type subjects, when they are allowed to exercise their freedom of speech rights, the student is well within her rights to voice her opinion, even if it invoked the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. You say 'It's almost like the constitution forbids the government from establishing a religion or something..' I submit that a girl voicing her own opinions and beliefs should not be squelched by government either.
Freedom of speech goes both ways. If an educator can speak of secular humanist ideas, then certainly the girl is entitled to speak her views. That's what the 1st Amendment is all about. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Oh Noes! Another poor christian was persecuted by not being allowed to use a government sponsored event to push her personal religion. It's almost like the constitution forbids the government from establishing a relligion or something.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1She should have mentioned 'mother earth', or better yet, 'allah'. :roll eyes:
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Or maybe people should keep their personal superstitions out of government sponsored events?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3She has every right to speak about whatever sky fairy she believes in, except when it's on my tax dollar.
- LeeSoong, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Well, technically the internet and the airwaves also belong to the government - so christian web sites, radio programs, and TV programs should also be banned.
If wanted - she should have brought a taped speech from her minister telling the people how
much Jesus has meant to her, and inviting people to go to church - so there - she didn't say anything, she just pressed play on a tape recording - great way to sue the school district for $$$
How about allowing all faiths equal access, on school time - every day - to recruit new members?
Maybe the whole school would convert to Judaism ? (of course, that might be bad news for the quota counts at the local Christian churches...) - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Nevermind that I pay thr same tax dollars. Yet, I am denied my freedom of speech? Pretty nice when you stack the deck in your favor. How about a voucher system?
BTW, did you really believe you evolved from two monkey's banging each other in a tree?
