Mike Huckabee:
Supports and will continue TORTURE of detainees.
At 8:30, Colmes asked Huckabee if he, as President, would use torture to extract intelligence about an imminent terrorist attack on America. In the process, he made the point that John McCain says that accurate information cannot be extracted by torture. Huckabee countered that point by claiming, "we have received good solid information from individuals from doing things of the nature you're describing"

Says he is for lower taxes, but INCREASED state spending 65.3 percent (1996-2004) and supported five tax increases. Taxes were raised twenty-one times for an increase of $883 million dollars. Arkansas' general debt shot up by almost $1 billion.

Grabbed national headlines with a governor's intervention that year to block the state from paying $419 for a retarded 15-year-old girl's abortion, her pregnancy stemming from being raped by her stepfather on a camping trip.

Ordered the destruction of tapes and hard drives containing embarassing information. Early in Huckabee's term as governor, documents, e-mails and memos stored on hard drives just like the ones that were destroyed formed the basis of embarrassing stories about Huckabee, including a 1998 story in the Arkansas Times detailing how Huckabee and his family were using the $60,000-a-year Governor's Mansion fund as their personal piggy bank.
http://www.arktimes.com/Articles/ArticleViewer.asp ...
It's not suprising that he opposes Campaign Finance Reform:
http://www.q-and-a.org/Transcript/?ProgramID=1010& ...
Huckabee is against same-sex marriage and civil unions. He outlawed same-sex marriage in Arkansas.
http://www.ontheissues.org/Mike_Huckabee.htm
Huckabee seems to love loot and has a dismissive attitude toward ethics, campaign finance rules and propriety in general:
In the 1992 contest, Huckabee used campaign funds to pay himself as his own media consultant. Other payments went to the family babysitter.
In his successful 1994 run for lieutenant governor, he set up a nonprofit curtain known as Action America so he could give speeches for money without having to disclose the names of his benefactors. He failed to report that campaign travel payments were for the use of his own personal plane.
After he became governor in 1996, he raked in tens of thousands of dollars in gifts, including gifts from people he later appointed to prestigious state commissions.
He converted a governor's mansion operating account into a personal expense account, claiming public money for a doghouse, dry-cleaning bills, panty hose and meals at Taco Bell. He tried to claim $70,000 in furnishings provided by a wealthy cotton grower for the private part of the residence as his own, until he learned ethics rules prevented it. When a disgruntled former employee disclosed memos revealing all this, the Huckabee camp shut her up by repeatedly suggesting she might be vulnerable to prosecution for theft because she'd shared documents generated by the state's highest official.
Inauguration funds were used to buy clothing for his wife. He once took control of the state Republican Party's campaign account -- then swore the account had been somebody else's responsibility when it ran afoul of federal election laws.
He sped final action on a bill to allow video poker at the state's racetracks, an act followed not long afterward by a $10,000 campaign contribution from the owner of the state's biggest race track,.

- geoboy, on 11/30/2007, -2/+73I am not a religious person, but I would think those who truly love God would find Huckabee's faux conversation somewhat offensive.

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFuAbMaeyUg - citcokid, on 11/30/2007, -5/+21Huckabee was sac religious and insulting to the Lord trying to put words in Gods mouth. And the worst thing is that he is SUPPOSED to be a minister of Gods Word. Instead he showed his irreverence for the Lord by reducing Him to a stupid theatrical stunt. I thought it was very cheesy and very un-Christ like.
- genezorz, on 11/30/2007, -1/+16Offensive on so many levels
- ReturnToFreedom, on 11/30/2007, -2/+16Imagine this: Jesus returns and shows up at the Republican convention as a regular looking man. He gets on stage and starts talking about "loving our enemies" and about how it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus gets labeled a terrorist sympathizer who is dangerous to America and a communist. Jesus gets ridiculed and declared a radical extremist, just like he did the first time and by the same type of people. He'd probably be killed (again, although this time covertly) because Jesus was obviously really successful in getting his points across. - tidu, on 11/30/2007, -1/+14All the applause just goes to show you how interested in the meaningful parts of their religion the people in the room are...
- solarsavior, on 11/30/2007, -2/+15Really getting sick of a country ruled by someone's imaginary friend.
- Maamiyn, on 11/30/2007, -7/+20That is the most sacrilegious video clip I've seen in as long as I can remember. How can anyone claiming to have faith in the Lord be so light-minded as to feign a worldly conversation with the Lord, especially in front of an audience that must have at least some believers. That shows an utter lack of any sincere relationship with Him. Even worse, he is a Baptist (or some other evangelical) minister and was called to give an invocation, which should be a humble supplication in prayer, and he instead tries comedy. If evangelicals choose this guy over Romney, they deserve him and what happens to their country. I'm glad I live north of the U.S. border. No Mormon would ever be so trifling as to take the Lord's name in vain as Huckabee did here. It is appalling! I guess that's a natural outgrowth of believing in an incomprehensible ether-like sea of spirit energy as Protestants and Catholics believe God to be. If they refuse to think of our Heavenly Father as a very real and tangible exalted being who is omnipotent and omniscient, they would be unable to pray from the depths of humility in God-fearing reverence, as it is probably pretty difficult to think of a formless sea of ether-like spirit energy as having any kind of power or personality that could evoke reverent awe. I can barely think back to my life as a Protestant 22 years ago before my conversion, but this video clip does bring back some sense of what it was like and I'm glad I don't have a part of it anymore. It is worse than the theatrical prayers that you can see on Sunday morning nondenominational evangelical services on TV, especially just before they beg for money to support their lavish lifestyles.

- djvchris, on 11/30/2007, -7/+18I know this is just begging for major burying, but I see this more as a dumb "hop on the republican bandwagon" way to convey that conservatives believe they are the "evangelical" or "blessed" party than some silver bullet against Huckabee's candidacy. If you want to take issue with him, do so using the evidence mentioned above by truegodofwar rather than with what is obviously a poorly-executed joke.
- inactive, on 11/30/2007, -0/+10yeh.....he would be tazed right after the camel part............
- tidu, on 11/30/2007, -4/+14Actually, Mike just spoke to Chuck Norris the other day when they made that campaign advertisement.
- nonchai, on 11/30/2007, -4/+14i dug you, because i kind of agree. But i must say, its worrying that the USA has become such a victim of the religious right. Do you guys never learn ?.
The USA evagelicals will get their wish - USA will become a theocracy. But as a consequence it will destroy both the financial and moral standing of the US with the rest of the democratic world. The Chinese and Russians must be killing themselves with laughter and joy - watching the USA bankrupt itself while gradually self destructing in a fit of religious patriotic fervor - Chaoticfist, on 11/30/2007, -0/+10As a canadian i will start a real rebellion if that happens. I swear i will start fighting. Over my dead body will this nation form a union with the usa or mexico.....
- SRSco, on 11/30/2007, -2/+11Oh hell no.
- vatosplace, on 11/30/2007, -4/+13Right now the GOP would have an easier time getting Ronald Reagan's corpse elected as any of the 'mainstream' GOP candidates.
