VIDEO: Al Gore Wins Emmy For Current TV
thinkprogress.org — Tonight, Al Gore won an Emmy for Current TV, his global television network that allows viewers to "create and influence what airs on TV." The audience gave Gore a long standing ovation as he and his Current TV partner, Joel Hyatt, walked onstage to receive the award for "interactive television services."

Not to be a fanboy, but does this make sense? Has anybody ever heard of/used Gore's "interactive television service"?- Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15this is my first time hearing about it, but from what i'm reading, it sounds a lot more innovative than revision3
- NJHewitt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It's a 24hr free cable/satellite channel in the UK (at least).
- gigaboss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14revision3.com ........0 household television sets around the world
current tv ....... in over 50 million homes worldwide including the united kingdom..
not to be a fan boy or anything. :) - IndigoMoss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Plus some of that ***** on there is absolutly crazy. My friend said they showed this dude in the Congo get shot by soilders and then they threw his body off the bridge. Crazy *****.
- TheUngod, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I saw one, one time, that said the world was ending the next week. Then in the next week's paper, they said we were miraculously saved at the zero hour by a Koala-fish mutant bird. Crazy *****.
- cygnus2112, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Sounds like John Kerry would be into it as well!
- rhabd0mancer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I've never heard of revision3.
Current TV is on DirecTV channel 366.
By the way, congratulations to Al Gore!
- PIXELFLIP, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11I love revision3.com and I contribute to current.tv ..... I'll let y'all judge for yourself, but stay tuned for www.current.com launching very soon. I would say it is definitely innovative.
- NinjaBoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5They just need a way to stream the entire channel online.
- mandarin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1you work there dont you?
- Bodhinature, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1CurrentTV has a lot of potential. Now, if we could get some knowledgeable people hosting and developing instead of a bunch of dimwitted hipsters extolling the virtues of political action without the weight of real facts and information. The last video I saw on Current was a bunch of leather wearing college aged hipsters doing a film on Lebanon. They never talked about the culture, interviewed any Lebanese, grounded the audience with history or politics. They just stood around bombed out homes talking about how weird it was to be in Lebanon. Give me a friggin' break. Are we trying to expand minds or further alienate ourselves.
- Eslamicolt3, on 10/10/2007, -23/+10wtf is Current TV? Am I the only one who's never heard of it? Ah who gives a rat's ass , it's Al Gore, right? lol. Thats Hollywood saying "We can't get him elected president but we SURE AS ***** can give him an Emmy!". I just think it's funny that Al Gore is still trying to convince us all he invented the internet.
- Naidim, on 10/10/2007, -10/+26I am relevant, dammit. - Al Gore
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -11/+4He's super cereal.
- trenchcoat, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Excelsior.
- doodlebumm, on 10/10/2007, -16/+2First, I would like to say that Al Gore's an ass. Second, I'd like to say that Al Gore's an ass. Third, I'd like to say that the last two things I said are true, an that Al Gore's an ass.
- vSuperLuminal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Close. He is *****, not "ass". That is *****.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -11/+4He's super cereal.
- Snuff99, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13I love Current TV. It's extremely informative, like nothing else on television. Also it's great for this ADD generation.
- mandarin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Dude you guys really should work instead of hanging around DIgg.
Keep those shampoo ads coming! - Bamont, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't care much for this man's political or socioeconomic views - but I think he's done a terrific job at current, and is really trying to make a positive influence on technology. That's something I think we can all agree on.
- Bodhinature, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I don't feel Current is any more informative than any other MSM outlet. It just looks like its giving you info without actually giving you info. Its very disappointing and extremely wanting. Its like World Politics Light.
- mandarin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Dude you guys really should work instead of hanging around DIgg.
- jiller, on 10/10/2007, -22/+9Well, he did create the internet......
- jiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2it is so hard to express sarcasm on the internet
- RobynG7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1We aren't psychic. If you're being sarcastic, then yeah, you need to use [sarcasm] tags or else you'll get dugg down.
- jiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2it is so hard to express sarcasm on the internet
- Ramble, on 10/10/2007, -21/+6What's that? The sound of someone trying to save their failing political career.
- slugicide, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11You are a ***** moron. If he wanted to be president, he could. He has stated numerous times that he's no longer interested. He has "lost his taste for politics."
- cygnus2112, on 10/10/2007, -11/+1I don't think it has as much to do with interest as much as "Al Gore" has become a punchline.
- DiggzDE, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Didn't he want to be president in 2000? That sure didn't work out for him. Your statement that "If he wanted to be president, he could." seems to already have been proven false.
- cygnus2112, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1He was an incumbent VP during an economic peak where everyone was happy and euphoric about America. And somehow he still managed to lose. That's gotta sting. I bet he went on a depressed eating binge and grew a beard.
- nblsavage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah..wonder how he lost..Why don't you ask Jeb?
- slugicide, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4You are a ***** moron. If he wanted to be president, he could. He has stated numerous times that he's no longer interested. He has "lost his taste for politics."

- slugicide, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11You are a ***** moron. If he wanted to be president, he could. He has stated numerous times that he's no longer interested. He has "lost his taste for politics."
- minox, on 10/10/2007, -12/+5I dont know how Achievement in Interactive Television Services made it into the prime time Emmys, but it is *****. And I can't believe Gore beat MLB Mosaic.
- BESTenemy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Well, they couldn't have called it "The Best Al Gore" nomination, so they tailored a more modest title.
- mkriss5681, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3MLB Mosaic: For the low, low price of 19.95 a month. Pretty cool service, but I don't think its worth the cost.
- cygnus2112, on 10/10/2007, -15/+4Does this mean Al Gore took the initiative to create the internet on TV?
- dan222555, on 10/10/2007, -22/+4No even watches that *****. I've never heard a thing about it. The only reason they gave it an emmy is because the liberals on the emmy voting board wanted to get Al Gore's stupid mug some publicity. And then some left wing news site like thinkprogress.org could right a story about it and liberals on digg.com would cream their jeans over it.
- cygnus2112, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2So right, but you can't use anti-liberal speak on Digg or the little piggies get upset.
- MacEnvy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Listen, I don't what your political message is as long as you're courteous and speak intelligently. If you're a dick I'm going to digg you down. What do you think will happen if you call everyone "little piggies"?
Grow up, learn to source your facts, stop complaining about roving bands of "libs", and you won't get dugg down. It's very simple.- cygnus2112, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1Source of facts, look in the right column, the numbers to the immediate "left" of "diggs". Now compare any comment that is even vaguely anti-Gore. Thank you for playing, little squealer.
- dan222555, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Except it's not that simple because the majority of people on this website will digg you down if you say anything leaning right regardless of how nice and courteously you say it. Just look at how many right-leaning stories make the front page of the political section....oh wait there are none.
- EricSchC1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Links to "nice and courteous" right-leaning statements or it never happened.
- MacEnvy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Listen, I don't what your political message is as long as you're courteous and speak intelligently. If you're a dick I'm going to digg you down. What do you think will happen if you call everyone "little piggies"?

- mkriss5681, on 10/10/2007, -16/+26I really wish Gore would just run for President.
- Zbrah, on 10/10/2007, -15/+2...not so much.
- cygnus2112, on 10/10/2007, -21/+6I really wish Gore would learn when his 15 minutes are up.
- seandaly, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I wish your mom would learn when her 15 minutes were up, My ***** is starting to chafe!
- cygnus2112, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2My mom doesn't change diapers like your mom continues to do. You should learn how to use a potty like all the other boys and girls.
- seandaly, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4@cygnus2112, Your mom most certainly does change diapers... Just last week after I finished plowing the woman who breastfed you", I tried to fart and accidentally ***** my pants. She was right there to wipe the ***** off my ass. It was a little weird though, as I'm pretty sure your mom was really enjoying it.
Your mom wouldn't happen to be German, would she?
- seandaly, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I wish your mom would learn when her 15 minutes were up, My ***** is starting to chafe!
- DiggzDE, on 10/10/2007, -6/+6He did already. He lost.
- mkriss5681, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Not by popular vote. Al Gore won. The American people lost.
- mike17032, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Guess its to bad for old Gore we dont elect our presidents by popular vote.
- mkriss5681, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Not by popular vote. Al Gore won. The American people lost.

Al Gore for "Manbearpig"- jknevitt, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4Old joke is old.
- str3ama, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Interestingly enough, when Current TV was first suggested it was scoffed at by initial investors as being too expensive and no lucrative market in the future for video...
- mandarin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It is expensive.
- veruus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Current is actually a pretty cool channel. Its liberal douchebaggery is kept at a relatively low level. Definitely more youth/internet culture oriented than anything else on TV. It's pretty cool to have 6-8 minute newsbits about random stuff. I had no idea that Gore was behind it.
- IndigoMoss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yeah I had no idea Gore was behind it either. My friend told me about it one day and said how crazy it was. I started watching it and I can't get enough.
- macbth, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2A great commercial for AL.
- kyle9013, on 10/10/2007, -23/+5Al Gore is a Piece of *****.
- TherealObadiah, on 10/10/2007, -19/+2What a charlatan Gore is.
- robwolf100, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Dang, my vote for best interactive television service was "Let's Paint,Exercise,& Blend Drinks"
Just in case you never herd of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvbL_5rH1QQ - theman6667, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2That whole thing was so obviously an ad for the network, apple and myspace. Very good marketing in my opinion.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/10/2007, -14/+9Meanwhile, the ice in Antartica is getting THICKER.
http://icecap.us/index.php/go/joes-blog/a_new_record_for_antartic_total_ice_extent - Snuff99, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Jeez, forget Gore helped create the channel, watch it and see for yourselves. It's a really good channel because it's made by us. If you don't like liberals do a "pod" about it and if it's decent, they'll show it on the channel. They are great at fairly showing all sides of many, many issues. What's better than viewer created content?!
- mandarin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2You work there dont you? Get back to work!
- mrbungle1975, on 10/10/2007, -12/+10This was a "Lets kiss Al Gore's Ass" Award.
- GrabAss, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9"Dick in a box" won an Emmy!
- enzomedici, on 10/10/2007, -12/+9Al Gore gets an Emmy?? What a *****' joke. Current tv is ***** that most people have never even heard of. Typical liberal hollywood crap.
- EricSchC1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2...said the guy who's not read the comments from the people who actually have heard about/used it
- boo1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I know what you can do then...call George senior and ask him to call his buddies on the supreme court and see if they can overturn an emmy!
- mlvassallo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Maybe NOT being president is the best thing that could have happened to Al.
Although if he ran I'd vote.- zengonzo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Might've been better for the country.
Though I guess sometimes one must hit rock bottom before progress is made.
- zengonzo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Might've been better for the country.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0It's Digg, on television, minus the thumbs.
- mandarin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3you mean most of it is just a bunch of videos of kittens and britney's underwear?
- Lou3000, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4This was kind of *****. They obviously gave this award to Gore, because it is Gore and they all love him. I have nothing against the guy politically, and liked an Inconvenient Truth, but seriously, wtf. I had never heard of Current TV before. What about all the Vodcasts that get a large number of viewers, Revision 3, or Joost.
I consider myself pretty informed about what is going on in emerging internet technologies, and I was a Joost beta tester from almost a year ago, and I have no clue what Current TV is. I went to the website as soon as this was announced last night and it was down, my guess is some money changed hands to make the Emmy's the first advertising opportunity for Current TV.- zengonzo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Awards shows are stupid.
More often than not the decisions are predetermined and motivated by outside factors. - Snuff99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you've never watch the channel, how can you have such a strong opinion? Watch it for a day or two and I'll bet my left nut you'll see something that you're interested in. And NO I don't work for them, I just think the channel is unqiue and very positive for television.
- zengonzo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Awards shows are stupid.
- mandarin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1By the way, I do know for a fact that there are lots of people who work for that tv channel surf and submit to DIGG all the time. Guess this is one way of getting news in that channel. Kinda like how Fox does it these days too.
- Snuff99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't work for current, but I wouldn't deny it if I did. I've learn more about what's current in the world from that channel than any where else. It's a straight up, no sugar coat, unbiased view of millions of issues that go on everyday. From Iraq to Africa, from California to my backyard. Yesterday I learned about the black market for Bush Meat in New York, follow by a pod about an undercover agent that helped bring down the American Mafia, then some coverage of Burning Man. You never know what you may see on currentTV and that's awesome. Period.
- GabrielS, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3Is Current carbon neutral yet?
- elvisjulep, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4Come on! Current is the ass end of the satellite! NOBODY watches it. It's like a cross between NPR and Public Access, without the entertainment. It all a bunch of film school students putting together "edgy" pods about crap like Indian cab drivers and Spencer Tunick photo shoots. Between the segments are ultra-hip "producers" who dress in their best faded Salvation Army surplus and drone on in monotone. It is the only channel I have blocked on my DirecTV because it is so mind-numbingly awful. And there's NO WAY this crapfest would have won an Emmy if Gore wasn't involved and the dunderheaded celebrity sheep of Hollywood weren't trying their desperate to look hip and relevant by supporting his buffoonish cause.
- zengonzo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I might otherwise agree with you, but I have three hundred channels and what you just described sounds rather more interesting than what I can find on them most of the time.
- elvisjulep, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well, I'll concede that most of the other channels I have are garbage, but trust me, Current is worse than watching the real estate ads on the Time of the Day channel. At least Public Access has people like the Spirit of Truth. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5139506886506885143
- zengonzo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I might otherwise agree with you, but I have three hundred channels and what you just described sounds rather more interesting than what I can find on them most of the time.
- ozymandias2012, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2They need to just make this guy President of something so he'll shut the ***** up.
- chall2001, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Geez, why do some people hate Gore so much? While he isn't perfect, he has done a lot of positive things and his heart seems to be in the right place.
And he was instrumental in the creation of the Internet. Do some research into the "High Performance Computing and Communication Act of 1991".
Vint Cerf stated “Al Gore was the first political leader to recognize the importance of the Internet and to promote and support its development.”. But what would Vint know about the Internet.- Dweller99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3(D)
- Pooley, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Gore is a good and honest man whose heart is in the right place. I'm also sure he will be persuaded to run for president within the next decade. If he carries on picking up credibility points the way he's done over the past few years, he's a winner. It's a shame he's not running for next year because he'd be a real breath of fresh air.
Props to you, Al!- elvisjulep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1If he's so good and honest then why is he pushing the carbon credit scam? And don't you realize that all the crap he's doing is PRECISELY because he wants to run for President?
- JJsays, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Geeeez, talk about your establishment propaganda, whoa, holy ***** *****!
- Btzarro, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Mann coulter
- bobzibub, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Newsworld int'l (what it was before) was better.
Thank the gods in the sky for http://www.starchoice.com/ - onebigswede, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3why did gore win the emmy? Because in that particular category, there really wasn't any competition! Plus, hollywood would vote for gore if he had a tv channel devoted to watching people take a dump.
- elvisjulep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2He does...it's called Current TV
- OakRidger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Well, that makes two elections he's won.
- eviltroll, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I think its pathetic how the liberal media marches Gore up on stage at seemingly every award ceremony to give him yet another token award and a media hand job. They try so hard to make his message seem worthy of praise despite the scientific controversy that surrounds it. Meanwhile, he's taking these awards and his never ending free press right to the bank.
- swordedge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Al Gore is Liberal
Hollywood is Liberal
Nuf said. - finnorlandkvis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Al Gore is just another New World Order puppet. Anyone why buys this global warming bulls**t is setting their own trap and will soon fall into it. This will mean having your life micro-managed and living in the equalivent of third world status. The taxes for every tiny bit of energy you use will be watched by your wonderful Big Brother and you will pay a mega tax for it. This isn't about global warming. This is about your imminent slavery under a cruel global Big Brother. Check out REAL Science on Global Warming. You will find it is bonifide, but in fact caused by an solar upheaval which it does go through in cycles.
