- womensgroup, on 10/05/2008, -7/+112Union President Speaks about Racism. The most honest and impassioned speech I have ever heard. The tears are still flowing. Honest Honest Congratulations. This should be shown around the world!!! This is America Video!!
Truly unbelievable! Every person deserves the chance to see this video! Please Digg it and pass it on!!! - GaDove, on 10/05/2008, -5/+70I just talked to a woman - a prospective roommate. I was excited about watching the VP debate. All of our previous conversations sounded like we were like-minded, age, divorced, hard financial times, multi pets, etc....then as I was dissing on Palin, I noticed a silence. I said, "You aren't voting Republican are you?" Oh yes. I just dont' trust that Obama, he was raised Muslim young, he never served in the military, etc....I was just angry and sad. She did everything except say he was Black as an excuse. This is Georgia, one of the states with the highest foresclosures, and this woman is a small business owner. Beauty parlor. Nothing I could say - and I said a LOT, could convince her to change her mind. I just pray she doesn't bother to vote. That quote on Burke is how I sign every single email. I wonder why I haven't seen more cars already with Obam/Bidan bumper stickers? There should be thousands here. ATL has a huge poor, minority, and enlightened urban population. I can't even believe GA is considered a Red State. I loved this video, and I hope I can show it to this woman.
- siszam, on 10/05/2008, -12/+77Obama is half white. It annoys me that people forget that.
- vampyroteuthis, on 10/05/2008, -6/+62the best speech i've EVER heard.... this man is a TRUE PATRIOT.
- 1reddhedd, on 10/05/2008, -8/+54If we don't speak out against racism as white people, don't think it might not come back to bite us ( or our children) in the future. Not to far in the future whites will actually be the minority in America. The saying that "what goes around, comes around" comes to mind.
- JimmyBog, on 10/05/2008, -4/+48I have had people (my mother-in-law included) come straight out and tell me that they agree with Obama's principles, but can't vote for a black man. Rather then get annoyed, I just simply tell them to not vote for the black half, vote for the white half and round up. I think it has made a few people possibly change their outlook. Give it a try, it just might work.
- thelif, on 10/05/2008, -6/+47Amazing speech. Share please.
- satanatnmtedu, on 10/05/2008, -0/+38Being half white is irrelevant. Obama is a human, THAT is all that matters.
Ultimately, we all came from a single place. Ultimately, we are all brothers. - inactive, on 10/05/2008, -2/+38I just insult them and call them wastes of skin and bones and then point out that he achieved more than their white ass. Making him superior to them in everyway.
- JimmyBog, on 10/05/2008, -4/+38Richard Trumka ROCKS!!!!! That speech sent chills up my spine and I am going to save it so that I can show my 5 year old daughter someday that it was people like this that had the courage to take this country back. This country is going to have a completely different attitude come January when Obama takes the helm, and that is because him taking the helm infers that the people take back control. The days of hateful Rove/Limbaugh/Coulter/O'Reilly rhetoric will linger for a while, but I am convinced that they will go down into the trash heap of media history, and people will look back and wonder how the hell anyone ever listened to them. Thank You Mr. Trumka!!!!
- charm803, on 10/05/2008, -1/+29Same here. I remind people he was raised by his WHITE grandparents.
Some people tell me how he's from the ghetto and will make the White House ghetto, so I remind them he grew up in Hawaii. - pyrobaby, on 10/05/2008, -3/+30This is such an important issue - I'm from small-town Pennsylvania myself, and the sad truth is that many of the people who Obama's presidency would help the most, the people who have lost their jobs, their life savings, their retirement money thanks to the far right; many of them are the same people who are saying now in their living rooms "I'm not voting for a [n-word]." They're not inherently bad people, they just don't know any better, and that ignorance is incredibly dangerous right now. Some people might be unconvincable, but those of us in traditionally-red blue collar areas need to try our best to help these people understand, racism is not worth 4 more years of George Bush's policies. Not if we want to keep our homes, our jobs, our sons and daughters alive.
- algaeturd, on 10/05/2008, -6/+29This was the top story on Digg the other day. I'm not complaining because it's a great speech but just pointing it out.
- Coultrain, on 12/25/2008, -5/+27Amazing speech. He needs to speak at Obama rally's. This is exactly the type of stuff we need to open peoples minds up.
- surferjoemaui, on 10/05/2008, -5/+27History in the making! dugg favorited, and shouted to all! good to see someone with the balls to bring this up!
- preneel, on 10/05/2008, -4/+22This should be made into a commercial.
- yodacallmesome, on 10/05/2008, -3/+21I wish this could be shown to every West Virginian. If anyone recalls the clips from a John Stewart show where they interviewed some 'common West Virginia folk' about Obama -- it was outright embarrassing. A large number of whites here still believe the Republican lies about him:
(a) he's a Muslim (b) he's not a US Citizen (c) he wants to raise taxes [on the middle class] (d) he wants to take the guns away and (e) he will ban the Bible.
Of course these people are 'holding their rifles from the wrong end', because Obama is more likely to enact polices to help them than McCain. - MediaWeasel, on 10/05/2008, -6/+23Four people does not a nation make :-) The support for Obama in Europe is phenomenal. I mean yeah, it's your election, but the kind of people you have in the White House affects global affairs.
I live in a small Scottish town, I've been to the library to get Obama's books and people there know about him and talk about him with excitement; they hope to goodness he's elected. I was carrying 'Audacity' down the road a while back - people actually stopped me to say I see you're reading Obama's book - he's America's only hope. What an amazing man. These were ordinary Scots going about their daily business - but excited about the election. They were interested, clued up, involved in world affairs.
Friends of mine all over the UK are hoping Obama / Biden are the next team in the White House. I guess it just depends where you are and who you talk to. - tigerduck, on 10/05/2008, -2/+18To the Obama is half white comment - You know what, many times that's worse. Not only are they looked at with a suspicious eye from the "white" side but so too with that same suspicious eye from the "black" side. I have seen it and I have felt it!
- charlie420247, on 10/05/2008, -4/+18cant even express in words what a simply awesome speech this is.
- HumanNouveau, on 10/05/2008, -1/+15Did you actually watch it? He specifically and pointedly states, that it's not abou calling names. It's about looking at the fact of Obama's race and decding whether that is important. He didn't say that Obama's race qualifies him. What he said is that it should not disqualify him.
Obama is qualified because he thinks and has thought about the things that matter in America. He's got the right goals and ambitions for America.
McCain and the GOP have lost the bubble. We are going to give them 8 years to reflect. Meanwhile we're going to start to undo the damage they have inflicte on this country in their ignorance and greed.
Obama '08! - gopnot4me, on 10/05/2008, -2/+15I'm with you! I'm sending it to everyone I know right now! This is a man Obama should make his October surprise!
This mans speech was as good or maybe even better than Baraks acceptance speech!
Bravo and my sincerest thank you for supporting what is good in this country!
God bless you. - RNactivist, on 10/05/2008, -4/+17Finally someone who speaks what is true for American workers...Obama is for them and we should not let the color of his skin stop us from voting for him. He is about our jobs, money, education, homes...and not mccain. Anyone who looks at Mccains past votes can see he never stands for us, only the rich and superrich.....www.mccainrevealed.org
- inactive, on 10/05/2008, -5/+16Respect.
I hope more people like him speak and idiots listen. - HumanNouveau, on 10/05/2008, -0/+11There's no right or wrong way to confront a racist. Every individual and every relationship is different, and each of us will know how best to confront the specific racists in our midst.
The only thing that is universally true is that we must confront them. Every time we silently listen to hate and senseless fear, we strengthen that view.
Speak out. - PabloMac, on 10/05/2008, -0/+9You need new friends.
- geneusutwerk, on 10/05/2008, -1/+9Psssst, there is a reply button.
- popularrecluse, on 10/05/2008, -0/+8Not when he's hailing a cab. Strange thing to be annoyed about....
- MediaWeasel, on 10/05/2008, -0/+8Time for it to have another outing I think! :-) The more people who see it the better.
- antigothlic, on 10/05/2008, -4/+12this made front page 3 days ago...
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Most_powerful_pr ... - surferjoemaui, on 10/05/2008, -1/+8Awesome, no more trickle down economics. It's time for bottom up economics.
Here's why--
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2 ... - FiestyPumpkin, on 10/05/2008, -1/+8Ashamed of himself? You have got to be kidding if you don't believe that racism is still rampant in this country. Plus, he is speaking to the steelworkers, the same people (and many more) who are losing their jobs on a daily basis. Surely you don't think that McCain gives a rat's ass about protecting those jobs. You, sir, is the one who should be ashamed of himself!
I for one do not go around claiming "racism" as the reason people do not support Obama. I call it idiocy. - inactive, on 10/05/2008, -0/+7Still not following - preparing to lose is not a strategy, that's not having a strategy. There's no advantage to be had in losing well, because you've still lost. It's not like you can go back and say "Well, we did such a good job at losing that we get to be the winners now." If McCain wins the election, the he wins the election - there's not really anywhere you can go at that point.
- yodacallmesome, on 10/05/2008, -1/+8I like Richard Trumka approach much better -- make people see that it is in their interest to vote Democratic.
Just ask them if they really can afford more of the same policies for another four years -- and whether they are better off now than 8 years ago.
Finally -- tell them to vote for Biden if they can't pull the level otherwise. - threemagic, on 10/05/2008, -3/+9One love.
- Krisgi, on 10/05/2008, -5/+11First time that I have ever heard of Richard Trumka, but I will NEVER forget him.
AMERICAN DEMOCRATS, UNITE AND RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!!!!
Obama/Biden 2008-2016
P.S. Anyone know where I can get Trumka´s email to send him a personal thank you? I couldn´t find it on the AFL-CIO website. - inactive, on 10/05/2008, -3/+8You're not even making any ***** sense.
- grillcover, on 10/05/2008, -1/+6@Achalemoipas
If you're really comparing "race" with "species," you're almost too ignorant to even work with.
Members of the same species can mate and produce fertile offspring. Race is defined by minor genetic characteristics that are utterly irrelevant to being human.
But good job, way to miss the point so entirely. - Laramas, on 10/05/2008, -4/+9I'll never understand why the people who have the most to gain from an Obama presidency, people who are middle or lower-middle class and struggling just to get by, will refuse to vote for him because he's black. Then they support the guy who wants to give massive tax breaks to the incredibly wealthy.
I'm confident America is going to wake up this year, though! - Krisgi, on 10/05/2008, -2/+7We´re not home free yet, but things are looking pretty damned good.
Support for Obama is amazing outside the US; around 70% of Americans living abroad will vote for Obama because we see things from the outside looking in.
It´s our vote, but we dedicate it to the rest of the world.
Godspeed.... - LordVance, on 10/05/2008, -0/+5No longer being a majority =/= being *the* minority. And if you really think white men are in any risk of becoming any less than a majority where it counts (offices of power), then you are just being silly.
I'm not saying it's right - just pointing out a truth.
P.S., awesome speech, and I'm absolutely voting Obama. - Spuy767, on 10/05/2008, -1/+5I live in atlanta, and the large poor population is NOT enlightened.
- Jareth86, on 10/05/2008, -0/+4Because racists love people of mixed race :D
- chicaneuk, on 10/05/2008, -4/+8Really quite moving.. and also quite painfully true.
Hopefully enough of America can wake up in November to do the right thing. - greenleaflink, on 10/05/2008, -4/+8That is a speech maker!!
and that is one massive audience.
:) - hmunkey, on 10/05/2008, -1/+5Isn't Palin a victim for being a woman. And McCain one for being a POW?
Stop pointing fingers. - HumanNouveau, on 10/05/2008, -3/+7If you're not going to vote for Obama because he's black. At least be fair. Don't vote for McCain because he is dishonest. Don't be so sick as to say that it is better to be a liar and demagogue than to be an African American. Don't say it. Don't say it out loud. Don't say it in the privacy of the voting booth. Think.
- bsmang, on 10/05/2008, -5/+9This is great. Maybe a few of the Digg antiobama-bots will at least question their racist positions and tendencies, and maybe a few of those will be influential enough to spread their newfound sense to others.
- RuffBong, on 10/05/2008, -0/+4This guy in INCREDIBLE! THIS SPEECH, INCREDIBLE! Many thanks to him for healing divisions in our country that hold us back, which proves convenient to those that make money off of it. There are people out there profiting off of our divisions, like John McCain, but their time dwelling on hate is coming to a close. Let peace begin right now, come together, Until the philosophy, which holds one race superior and another, inferior, is finally and permanently, discredited and abandoned...." ~BMW.
Unity of all people can begin with us, we can heal this nation.
RIGHT NOW IS OUR CHANCE AND THE BEST OPPORTUNITY WE HAVE EVER HAD.
LET PEACE AND LOVE BEGIN WITH US.
NOW IS OUR TIME.
OBAMA 08. - jayandrew85, on 10/05/2008, -3/+7Very Powerful everyone needs to watch!!!!
