    Part of the morale struggle, many agree, is the limits imposed by senior commanders on the use of traditional military force in pursuit of Taliban fighters skilled at hiding behind civilians. But even officers practiced in counterinsurgency techniques to weed the bad guys from the good guys and win over Afghan civilians say that the rules — and the message — coming from Washington are disconnected from the situation on the ground.
  • BillE3, on 10/25/2009, -0/+1Here we are again in the same micromanagement style we had in Viet Nam. The Washington whiz kids and strategists take over and manage a war half way around the world. They set the rules of engagement. Just like in Viet Nam they are ensuring our failure and the loss of many lives. You do not win a fight when you tie both of your hands behind your back while blindfolded and walk into a ring where the other guy has brass knuckles on.

    I half expect the Russians to do to us what Charlie Wilson did to them. Washington is certainly setting the stage for them to do it.
