US denies bail for couple accused of being Cuba 'spies"

news.bbc.co.uk — A retired US State Department employee and his wife, both in their 70's & who are charged with spying for Cuba, have been denied bail by a court in Washington DC. The pair deny the charges but face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty. Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro has dismissed the allegations against as a "ridiculous tale".

  • CanNurse, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1The prosecutor said that if the couple took their yacht to Cuba, they would stay there & would thus "present a real & present danger to the U.S." And this would be .....Why......??? How???? An elderly couple move to Cuba & are allowed to stay. How in the world is this a terrible danger to the U.S.? The U.S. paranoia is crazy to the rest of the world, all of whom can and do freely visit Cuba & find it to be a lovely place, with lovely people. You guys have been fed a bill of goods about Cuba. For pete's sake, leave the 1950's & get over it.
