- elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12It's from the Boston Herald, his hometown newspaper? I submit all types of stories. This one seemed pertinent. If you don't like it, block me, it won't hurt my feelings. It seems to me that this is a typical response from an irrational democrat. Squashing dissent and calling me a machinenik? Why not take issue with the article itself instead of attacking me personally or even better yet... learn how to use Digg so you only read stories that play to your emotions and make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside about your Democratic leadership. Otherwise please go hitch a ride with Ted Kennedy over a bridge.
- elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Unfortunately appleann1 they don't allow you to dialogue or dissent. Instead they throw a pathetic figure like Michael J Fox or Cindy Sheehan on camera that everyone feels sorry that you can't attack without looking like an *****. If the dems don't come up with ideas instead of emotional appeals they will never earn my vote.
- elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think the one thing we can all be happy about, Democrat and Republican alike, is that this definitely lowers the chances that Kerry will be nominated for the Democratic ticket again. I'm a Republican and I can't think of many Democrats that I would trust less in the office of president than John Kerry. (Al Gore? Ted Kennedy? Dennis Kucinich?)
- elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Ya we should accept people's apologies... like Trent Lott when he made that stupid comment about Jesse Helms. Oh wait no one accepted his apology either.
And Kerry really cared about the troops when he said:
"[T]here is no reason ... that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children"
Military families generally vote republican so you're way off base. - SoftwareSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7"Ya we should accept people's apologies... like Trent Lott when he made that stupid comment about Jesse Helms. Oh wait no one accepted his apology either."
---
AND Trent Lott was forced to resign his office over that comment. Why hasn't John Kerry been forced (or even asked) to resign HIS office over HIS comment? Hmm? - BullyJack, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8@mbondr
Kerry buried himself. We're just enjoying the aftermath. - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ elebrio
I wouldn't even consider Cindy Sheehan sympathetic anymore. She's on the offensive all the time and shares a bed with Michael Moore. - MyHappyClam, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6So his comments are opinion? Then he is the joke.
Those weren't apologies I would accept from him and I am a veteran.
So Democrats think that because I served in the military I must be stupid? Well I guess my BA/CMIS and MS/CIS degrees are stupid as well as the college and university I went to. Oh wait, intellect is reserved for the elitist Democrats such as Kerry. - EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4MrHappyClam, I think you can do better than "I'm not stupid. You are." It kind of proves the point.
But Kerry's released his intended statement (written before he spoke, not after) that shows it was a joking jab at Bush. Everyone is sorry (except some cynics on the right) that anyone was offended by it.
But I'm offended every time Bush butchers the English language. If Bush mispeaks, I make a joke out of it. I don't call for blood, apology, or resignation (well, I do, but not for that).
I mean, when Bush says he's always thinking of new ways to harm Americans, I take that personally! He's trying to harm me! He said it, so he must have meant it!
Give me a break. It's over. Move on. - SoftwareSamurai, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"SoftwareSamurai, you really can't compare the two situations."
---
Um, I already did.
Kerry's over. Move on. - MyHappyClam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4@NinjAlt
There was no joke in that 'COMMENT' he made to the students! It was just his real attitude about the military that poked out and the public (not just Republicans) caught it and slams the door on it! He has NOT apologized for the COMMENT. He apologized for people not understanding his COMMENT which he construed in his mind as a joke against the president. There was nothing in his COMMENT about the president, only the military. You are obviously the stupid one on this digg. - EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@SoftwareSamurai:
I stand corrected. You CAN compare the two situations. You just can't do so honestly. - rationalist, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7buried for wrong category. Should be in political opinion.
- EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3@elebrio: "And Kerry really cared about the troops when he said:
'[T]here is no reason ... that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children'"
If I say that cops coming into my home in the middle of the night with weapons armed would terrorize me, am I dissing cops? No. No one wants to face a gun in their house. It's got to be scary as hell.
No one is blaming the soldiers for doing their job. But it's harmful to be doing this, whether it's necessary or not, because it radicalizes more Iraqis against us. Kerry is complaining about the policy. We shouldn't be put in that position of having to search homes for insurgents in a war we shouldn't have started.
But would the word "scaring" be better than "terrorizing?" Yes, because terrorISM is something else and terrorizing sounds too close. But it means "scaring." I never claimed Kerry was verbally gifted. But he doesn't hate the troops. - appleann1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3You mean you're not the party of dialogue?
- EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4SoftwareSamurai, you really can't compare the two situations.
Lott made an essentially pro-racist remark that wasn't a verbal gaffe. He said what he believed and it turned out to confirm people's suspicions about his privately held beliefs.
In Kerry's case, it was a verbal gaffe (read the whole speech if you doubt it, it has nothing to do with the troops) and it's been deliberately misinterpreted by people due to Kerry's failure to say one key sentence correctly.
The only thing in common is that people used the situations for political gain on both sides. But in Kerry's case, you have to intentionally twist the facts to arrive at a preconceived and wrong conclusion that Kerry hates or insults the troops. That's what $200M of GOP advertising, swift-boating, and Fox-Newsing buys you, but it doesn't make it true.
It's over. Move on. - NinjAlt, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4@MyHappyClam
No, you're stupid because he's said over and over it wasnt directed at the troops but you would rather deny reality and believe GOP propaganda. Congratulations. - mbondr, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7This is just Colteresk slander. Will you Republican machineniks please play somewhere else.
- EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Should be political opinion. There's certainly nothing NEW here. Kerry has since apologized, twice, and directly to the troops.
Leave it to Republicans to take someone who apologizes and knock them to their knees just to extract more blood.
You didn't care about the troops, just the idea you'd get a boost in the polls and votes. That's sick and disgusting. You should be the ones apologizing to the troops, then and now. You use them and abuse them and throw them out when you're done.
