- Harboggles, on 07/12/2009, -3/+47I'm sure that we would find a very different story if we polled the army.
- novenator, on 07/12/2009, -7/+47Why are leaders of conservative regimes always so willing to give the lives of their countrymen? That's right, their own sons never have to serve.
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -2/+28Ready to die again unarmed protesters?
What a joke. - vault, on 07/13/2009, -0/+19McCain has a son serving in the military, and he himself served.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 07/13/2009, -0/+13Gen. Sayyed Hassan Firouzabadi said; "My troops are willing to die."
Troops; "Lead the Charge oh glorious general!"
I'm sure every military totally freaking out about the lack of internal support, has made ever more lofty claims. If he said; "They'll get the job done in two weeks, maybe a month," like our good old Rumsfeld, it would be time to ***** bricks and worry about a 7 year massacre.
The Iranians are really fighting for Theocracy Light vs Theocracy Heavy -- but the people involved helped get rid of the Shah, who had massive US backing. Of course, the people keeping the status quo, also know these tactics. It's all a question of will.
I'm impressed by the Iranians. If we took our Democracy this seriously -- well, we'd probably actually have a Democracy, rather than what we settle for now, or what the Iranians are coping with. - MatzahMan, on 07/13/2009, -2/+15Just ***** propaganda
- novenator, on 07/13/2009, -1/+13Granted, the McCain family has a long history of service to this country. Perhaps that's why Limbaugh said John McCain isn't really a conservative, heh.
- Hillsfar, on 07/13/2009, -0/+10Yeah, you gonna fight unarmed protestor fellow citizens in the streets of your own country to your death?
- idbjoshm, on 07/13/2009, -1/+10I always thought the army fought with the people at their back ... to you know .... PROTECT THEM!
- Nerotique, on 07/13/2009, -3/+12Fixed:
Why are politicians always so willing to give the lives of their countrymen? That's right, their own sons & daughters never have to serve. - thepoliticalcat, on 07/13/2009, -1/+9It's simply wonderful how those who never put their own bodies in the line of fire have so much to say about others' willingness to die. http://kalimao.blogspot.com/2009/07/opposite-of-pe ...
- wizzroom, on 07/13/2009, -1/+8Oh so brave and noble of these machine gun-armed soldiers, willing to defend their country against a bunch of their own unarmed countrymen. Just more propaganda *****. No one buys it.
- thepoliticalcat, on 07/13/2009, -2/+9Well, of course - they're the ones who actually have to do the dying.
- Aero347, on 07/13/2009, -0/+6Ready to die in order to stop protests? It's a bit insulting to be in an army that would sacrifice you to silence someone's opinion guaranteed by the constitution which you are under oath to defend. But hey if their leaders say it's for "Allah" they'd do anything, even something condemned in the Koran, much like conservatives here when it comes to applying the bible. It's so fun to pick and choose which parts you're going to obey today.
- smacksaw, on 07/13/2009, -2/+8Just like Palin, I hope the leaders take her cue and quit.
- harpoonhank420, on 07/13/2009, -0/+6die for your country , not your leaders
- catalizor, on 07/13/2009, -0/+6I rather die than live under such brutal injustice. I am an IRANIAN WOMAN.
- bitterprick, on 07/13/2009, -1/+6Generals should lead by example, and I mean by example.
- rheaume, on 07/13/2009, -4/+9Hopefully they will
- fandyboy, on 07/13/2009, -0/+5Sounds like the last desperate proclemations from a dying regime to me...
- heliumflash, on 07/13/2009, -2/+7We got a bright one here folks.
- wizzroom, on 07/13/2009, -1/+5So this means you have no conscience, no sense of right and wrong? That's your excuse for oppression and murder...it's your job?
That's really all it is when you remove all that political ***** and false sense of pride, honor, duty, and purpose clouding your conscience, some would say brainwashed, but I still have faith in people trained to kill.
When you strip it all away, it's just one human murdering another. You know no general, no state heads in history have ever proclaimed themselves as the evil side when waging war. All of them were utterly convinced beyond a doubt that they were on the side of the good. Your oath is just a propaganda ploy just like everything else they feed to the people to justify murder.
War is peace my friend. - MrColdheart, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4If possible those protesters need to get armed if they are combating deadly force.
- TruthKid, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4Well I can't speak for all Armies, but the US Army vows to defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic...
It'll go on to talk about following the presidents orders, but what's first is what's important, which is why I carry a small copy on me while I'm in uniform. Might as well actually know what it is I'm fighting over, then it clears up pretty quick if I choose right or wrong.
Constitutional: check
Geneva conventions: check
UCMJ: check
ROE: check
I have free reign to do anything I want providing it follows those 4 guidelines. You even mentioning prosecution gives me the impression you think there is a significant number of soldier's facing punishment for war crimes.
It's a soldier's duty to place their obligation first, Fjosnisse was simply pointing that out. Would you want an Army full of people who want to do their job or bicker and talk and get nothing done. That's what politicians are for. - CliffMatthews, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4Things must be serious for Firouzabadi to feel it necessary to try and intimidate people like this. The people are still willing to come out on the streets (July 9th Student protests) and many clerics have recently condemned the elections. People in Iran are becoming more and more aware that they live in an open prison.
Unfortunately for the mad mullahs prosperity requires freedom of thought and expression and along with this comes a growing middle class irked by the petty (and major) tyrannies of the Islamic state.
Time for the Iranian state is running out. They may get over this with sufficient brutality but a regime that is forced to attack its own people eventually collapses. - weeFred, on 07/13/2009, -0/+4A lot have already shown that they are. They risk death just by being in a protest.
- vault, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3Because you definitely didn't know what both of us meant.
- dandaman0345, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3I'm sorry about your country, and I'm glad to see you guys aren't taking it sitting down. Even though I don't know you, I definitely don't want you to die. And if there is a war, chances are you will die. And it is unavoidable that someone you love will die. I'm not saying a war would be senseless, or needless as far as whats best for your country. I'm just saying I hope this is resolved peacefully....and as far as humanity at large is concerned, it never needs war.
- Barackalypse, on 07/13/2009, -1/+4The real question is, are the protesters willing to? Historically the guys with the guns don't do much of the dying when they're fighting against a mostly disarmed populace.
- vault, on 07/13/2009, -7/+10Their sons and daughters serve all the time. http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2007-01-22 ...
I know, I know..."But I watched ***** 9/11 and Michael Moore said no!!!!!!11!1" Yeah, I had the displeasure of watching that as well, and stupidly paid for the movie ticket in the interest of being bipartisan and giving it a fair chance. Biggest bunch of lies I've ever seen. - roddack, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3@Truthkid I understand what you are saying but a problem that needs to be pointed out is that if would be given an order by the commander and that order goes against the constitution then the one issuing the order is the one that you should turn against because your duty is to defend the constitution not be the tool of the commander
- ouodi, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3An eye for an eye will make the world go blind~Ghandi. A kingdom divided against itself cannot stand~Jesus Christ. No government is able to sustain itself in the longterm if it willfully physically punishes its people who protest their government.
- Fisky22, on 07/14/2009, -0/+3I was reading this article: http://www.mindreign.com/en/mindshare/Internationa ... I was reminded of where freedom has prevailed in other parts of the world throughout history, and gives me hope the freedom can prevail in Iran too. Where there is a will there is a way.
- ADDHITMAN, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3actually i think we need this war. i am an Iranian.
- charm803, on 07/13/2009, -1/+4What are you talking about?
These protests have shown that the Ayatollah has no power left, neither does Ahmadinejad. The protesters have defied all the orders given to them.
What is the point of being a leader of a country when you have no followers?
I support the people of Iran for standing up to this. - dandaman0345, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3Half his troop probably voted for Moussavi. I really hope this doesn't turn violent. There is enough murder in that region already, and another war is the last thing humanity needs.
- Hillsfar, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3@fandyboy:
It worked for many in the CIA and in Iraq re: waterboarding. - Pinkertinkle, on 07/13/2009, -1/+4more like ready to kill
- Midtowner, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2The United States is not a democracy. It never was.
- fandyboy, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Yeah the Allies systematically tried to erase a whole race of people, sure.
- JackG1980, on 07/13/2009, -1/+3Does he mean willing to kill their own people including family and friends. This guy needs to understand that he is Human before he is a Soldier, General, Iranian or anything else.
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -1/+3there goes the neighborhood
- volcompimp, on 07/13/2009, -1/+3I guess it was nice knowing ya!
- 4answer2, on 07/13/2009, -1/+3Iranians have a history of dying en masse - look at how many died in their recent war with Iraq.
Religious fanaticism = trampling of human rights. - SkunkWORK, on 07/16/2009, -0/+2Good for your troops, the more the better. Listen, I'm not one to bash anyone else's beliefs, but the fact that anyone idolizes something "man" wrote in a book clearly needs to die. These people handed over free will and god a long time ago for greed, murder, and corruption!
It's comforting knowing that Iran's military is so stupid and mentally weak. Just knowing that if it comes down to it, the USA would literally take big dump on Iran and it's vintage military with no Air Force. Being iranian myself and having left when i was 2, I can honestly tell you that the USA as F'd as it seems sometimes, is the best country in the world!
God gave us all brains and free will. I could give two ***** about Mohammad and Jesus and all the ***** they bring, they're just people like us and to claim that they are the sons of creation is a big slap in the face to the god or entity truly responsible for creation and everything in it. None of them are religious because they all follow the beliefs "man"! It's all just a corporation based on money, power, control, and greed.
The only way we will ever have peace on this planet is the day all religions are ousted from humanity and everyone who want's to sell it a long with it! And for those of you weak minded brain dead followers, you're not religious. You're mentally weak and easily breakable, and most of all, you're not FREE! Those of us who follow our own beliefs and keep them between ourselves and God aka "Creation" are truly religious and 100% free! - logir, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Yup, it also applies here.
- logir, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2Keeping order is for police. Defending against foreign threats is for the army. Also, following illegal orders, in either or any case, is illegal. c.f Nuremberg Defense
- fandyboy, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2Following orders has not been an excuse since Nuremburg.
- Apocrypha, on 07/13/2009, -1/+3I think General Disarray is on the wrong side here.
