- ljkelley, on 01/28/2009, -0/+32Well of transcripts 1-4 I didn't see anything incriminating. Just sounds like they were talks about legislation, the word Senator never came up.
- theak, on 01/27/2009, -1/+29"Dec. 9 to my family, to us, to me, is what Pearl Harbor Day was to the United States."
- Rod Blagojevich - MacParrot, on 01/28/2009, -1/+21Yeah, concerning the accusations made I'm just not seeing anything here. He's talking to lobbyists, he's talking about signing legislation. Better be more than this if they think there is reason for prosecution
- JohnnyDo333, on 01/28/2009, -0/+19According Yahoo News, these tapes have nothing to do with selling a senate seat:
"The allegation at the center of the tapes is that Blagojevich improperly pressured John Johnston, owner of two Chicago-area harness-racing tracks, to donate money by the end of 2008, when a new ethics law would take effect and restrict donations. Prosecutors say Blagojevich threatened not to sign legislation giving tracks a portion of casino-generated revenue unless he got the donation."
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090128/ap_on_re_us/il ... - Lokonopa, on 01/27/2009, -1/+20Yeah, like I'm going to take a whiz through this $5,000 suit. Come on!
I got nothing else. - inactive, on 01/28/2009, -2/+20OK, if this is exemplary of the kind of evidence they have against Blagojevich, I must say he's going to walk. I heard nothing that convinced me that he was selling a Senate seat. He was definitely doing something, but all he needs to do is explain it somehow and have an alibi.
- inactive, on 04/03/2009, -1/+19Man, what a tool...
- wolfing, on 01/28/2009, -0/+17Me: And, like, you know, about that thing.
Lobbyist 1: So, you want to, you know, later?
Me: Well, yes, like, whatever
Lobbyist 1: And, well, ah, hmm, about the other thing
Me: Like, you know?
Lobbyist 1: Ok, seeya
That's about all you can read in those transcripts lol, hope they got something better if he's really guilty - WiretapStudios, on 01/28/2009, -0/+14Nothing too hair-raising on the audio.
- Mude, on 01/27/2009, -1/+15But...
How's my hair? - ag1985, on 01/28/2009, -0/+13So.......There are more tapes, right? Right?! Please tell me this is not the extent of the evidence against this schmuck.
- lynchjos, on 01/28/2009, -0/+11Blagojevic wanted to meet up with Jimmy Johnson?!?! Definitely a hair connection.
- jcgreenx, on 01/27/2009, -1/+10These are frickin' gol...ah, forget it.
- dhoneywell, on 01/28/2009, -2/+11This guy is bat-***** crazy. Seriously, what the hell is he doing trying to play the victim?
- WiretapStudios, on 01/28/2009, -0/+9Like I'm going to get wiretapped in this $6,000 suit? Come on!
- minorthreat, on 01/28/2009, -1/+10if this is all they have, it's nothing incriminating... Why is he guilty until proven innocent...
- Serinus, on 01/28/2009, -0/+8When there's not corruption on the republican side commensurate with how many are elected.
Unfortunately scumbaggery in politicians is non-partisan. - orion846, on 01/28/2009, -0/+8i'm pretty sure these tapes weren't about the senate seat. he's accused of a bunch of ***** people don't focus fire on the one mainstream thing. i think these tapes had to do with him muscling money out of people for favorable legislation, and maybe something to do w/that children's hospital they talked about. i don't remember all the details but i'm pretty sure the senate related tapes will come out on another day in the impeachment proceedings.
- Technoidatx, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7ok so that was as clear as mud. Thats all they have? Hes meeting a guy at a track to talk about a thing. What does that have to do with selling Obamas seat ?
- Diggsterrr, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7I have to agree with notanidiot, all he is doing is 'talking'. I don't think there is enough to get him out... Sucks because it is pretty obvious...
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -2/+9Boycotting a trial is not a confession of guilt.
- souljaboytellem, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7That's exactly what I was thinking, There was never any talk of anything that these charges were brought about on, maybe they will release more? If not, I don't think they really have anything solid to impeach this guy
- SBF214, on 01/28/2009, -0/+6this guy is a douche bag.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+6can't assume intent, you must prove it.
- tomz17, on 01/28/2009, -0/+6In a trial, the prosecution has to PROVE intent.
- PrettyBoyFloyd, on 01/28/2009, -0/+6Note how many sections were [REDACTED], so you can't really see exactly what they were talking about. Some of the recordings broadcast by the media did include this information, but the ones on this page didn't seem to be all that damaging to the governor.
- Serinus, on 01/28/2009, -0/+5Because he's an elected official. You don't have to be proven guilty to get impeached.
He certainly won't serve any time based on these alone though. He's obviously up to no good, but they seem pretty careful on the phone. - inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+5Oh, my bad, for some reason I thought you said "why" instead of "while." -1 internets for me.
- VeryBoredNow, on 01/28/2009, -1/+6WHY THE HELL did they use a typewriter for the transcripts?
What is this? The early 80's? - joltcola, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4This is like some stuff straight out of The Wire
....Pertinent *Check* - IphtashuFitz, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4Is it just me or does Blagojevich look a little like Alfred E. Neuman?
- DWillms, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4Like the guy in the $7,000 suit will bother wiretapping tapping that tool. Come on!
- andrew918, on 01/28/2009, -1/+5It'll be hard for him to explain while he's boycotting the trial...
- JohnnyDo333, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4See my post below. These tapes have nothing to do with selling a senate seat.
- drowningfish, on 01/28/2009, -1/+5I am surprised this guy has not traveled overseas to start giving interviews to foreign media outlets by now. Anyhow, my three step plan for the problem:
1) Impeach this douchebag.
2) Make him an example for others like him.
3) Get rid of the loophole that exists that allows Governors to appoint Senators without holding special elections. - AndrewDB, on 01/28/2009, -1/+5The sad thing is he doesn't think he did anything wrong according to his interview with Rachel Maddow..
He's absolutely delusional. - frankdozier, on 08/10/2009, -0/+3Dude, Ted Steven's went down like 3 months ago. I know that's a long time, but I'm sure the bong water's been changed at least once since then, right? That sumbitch was in the Republican Party, and he gave the finger to the court and told them that his ass wasn't leaving! How relentless was that?
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -2/+5Oh, that's right, the media says he's guilty so he is. Innocent until proven guilty, my friend, so show me some proof.
- TrAzE28, on 01/28/2009, -1/+4Whenever confronted go "Full Blago". Deny, distract, de-give a *****!
- 3tcp, on 01/29/2009, -0/+3Typewriters look more sinister because it reminds people of cold war spy vs spy stuff
- frankdozier, on 08/10/2009, -0/+3@BaghdadMarine
Damn, you're starting to make a crazy kind of sense. I'm in, where do I sign? Lemme just turn in my dignity, my church, my humanity, my empathy, my neighborhood, my freedom, my bowels, my DNA, my Blackberry, and my porn store before I join your America. Why should I need freedom of choice when there are people who are willing to tell me what to choose? If I see something with my own eyes, or if I feel something with my own heart, I could be wrong. Others with their own agendas may know better than I. If I gave away my freedom then it would be OK, cuz then I'd NEVER be wrong. Without having a chance to make mistakes, I probably won't learn too much, but that's cool, because without freedom I won't need to know much of, well, anything. Once I give my freedom away, I will give up my need to think for myself. Luckily, your America will always think for me, and always know what I want before I know it. Hell, I can remember a few scifi movie's from back in the day that had societies that worked great just like that!
No one should have rights. Right's infringe upon the need of the people. If the people need me to die, then I should happily throw myself into the fire for the people.
Who needs freedom when you have a religion to tell you what to do? Your gonna need a very powerful religion for your new America. I would suggest Islam or Christianity, they both work well in subduing all of their people to the ultimate will of The State.
Wait a second, BaghdadMarine! This doesn't sound like America at all! It actually sounds like our enemies! BaghdadMarine! Are you really a Marine? Have you forgotten the meaning of 'Semper Fi'? Dude! I don't think your idea of America is the same one as Thomas Jefferson's. Perhaps you may need to look him up:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Jefferson - frankdozier, on 08/10/2009, -0/+3Now, we're starting to make some sense here.
- souljaboytellem, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3I don't like this guy, but I don't want to see him get impeached or punished for something they can only speculate about
- acegi, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3i just don't like how he tries to equal himself with lincoln and martin luther king jr. he's trying so hard to play the media and it's almost painful to watch him.
- PixelPusher74, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3One guy doesn't = relentless. I think in the past years R scandals definitely outnumber D scandals. AND I don't see the Dems lining up to defend the guy. They want him out.
- PixelPusher74, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2They sound like tapes of a guy who knew he was being recorded.... Sopranoesque - "Did you talk to that guy about that thing?" Why aren't they including the stuff we've already heard? As close as I can remember - "This thing is valuable. I'm not just going to GIVE it away!"
Paraphrasing below -
(I love when Blago says, something like Do you want to call him? Aid - Ummm, no. You should call (I'm not getting any deeper into this *****) - captbaritone, on 01/29/2009, -0/+2Sheiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
- LiLi009, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2I think it might be hard for regular voters to get the context of the conversation because we don't know who is talking with the governor. I think the first audiotape does incriminate the governor in wrong doing though; the other tapes not so much. Also, if you have followed the story with the governor trying to buy a paying board membership for his wife---it seems very plausible. She was recently fired or let go from a highly-paid board membership for a organization that tries to help the homeless. There is something very fishy when a community organization whose financials are bad and it elects Mrs. B. and pays her over $100,000 to be a board member. If I knew that Mr. B. had engaged in this kind of politics, I would not have voted for him.
- inactive, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3While they're at it, they should strip search people when they enter their go shopping, "just in case" they're a potential terrorist.
Bags should be regularly searched if you're walking on public streets.
People who register guns should be SWAT teamed in case they have an illegal firearm.
And our Internet usage needs to be monitored 24/7, in case we accidentally download a virus, then you're a terrorist.
Dammit! Guilty until proven innocent, I say!!! - BoneStamp, on 01/28/2009, -1/+3I wish I realized sooner there was an audio clip at the bottom that included all four of the above audio clips.
