- SouthsideIrish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9When are the democrats going to do something? Anything? Can we take more of Bush?
- arplayer2k, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8It is funny how the real important and newsworthy stories such as this dont get that much attention. Oh wait, Paris is getting out of jail, better jump on that bandwagon, instead of our corrupt government.
- InetRoadkill, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I like this plan a lot. Let Darth Cheney try to rule his empire without any staff or funds. If he wants to run his office like it's his private property, fine. Do it without public funds.
- mattxb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5The real question here is how important is it to him to cover up the workings of his office? If avoiding executive oversight is so important to him that he is willing to take this financial hit, then whatever he is covering up must be truly criminal. Think about it, suppose he knows an investigation would lead to impeachment, then letting the democrats defund him is a small price to pay to keep the seat of power. If thats the case, then this bill would be a phyrric victory.
- deadowl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I've heard that's what Britain's parliament can do to the royal family.
- rcook18, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4To be defunded is to not be all powerful. It would be very meaningful to Cheney.
- Godlike, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE
- foofightrs777, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3So, as the real value of the minimum wage has fallen since the late 1960's it's become cheaper to live in America?
Last time I checked the CPI was still on the rise and 2 incomes are now the norm to get by as opposed to 1 in the late 60s. Perhaps it has more to do with the stratification of wealth away from us "normal folk" and into the pockets of the wealthiest 2%. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5his company is stealing billions from us yearly... I don't think 4 and a half million dollars is really a big deal to him.
- jellygraph, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Lets do it... please just do _something_
- bshock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The preferable option would be to impeach Cheney, followed by indictment on criminal charges. But in lieu of that, "defunding" his office is at least a start. Now if we could also find a way to impoverish him personally...
- InetRoadkill, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Doesn't matter. Only the house can fund stuff. Assuming the dems don't cave in a second time.
- Pake, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Eh, it still doesn't mean anything. They'll just put that extra money towards their next pay raise which should be within six months or so...
- fsjonsey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Too bad your approval rating still lies at 14%
Vote for Change- I lol'd - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3The democraps won't do anything to affect their upcoming occupation of the dictators office.
The only solution is to remove most all of them and the republicants from power...... - Hortnon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Except that being President of the Senate is one of about 3 things he does, all of them rarely used.
- Ricky8765, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Awesome, we can only hope Congress goes through with this...
- AnaHadWolves, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I say that we forget de-funding Cheney's office and use half the money to call Terminix Pest Control to clear those vermin outta there. We should then use the other half of the money to fumigate that office so no other Cheney-like vermin can ever infest that office in the future.
- sponeil, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It would be a waste of time to try to run them out of office because the court battle would take too long to physically remove them. It would NOT be a waste of time to punish/imprison them for their crimes, as it would deter others from doing the same. Hmm, Bush is technically the head of all branches of the military. Does the military still shoot people for treason in times of war? If Bush and Cheney were both shot for treason, it would serve as a pretty good deterrent. I'm not advocating they they be shot, just that they be tried for treason. Perhaps they could be held at Gitmo until the trial was finished. Either that, or one of the nice prisons in Syria or Pakistan.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Thats the question I keep asking myself. I wonder: would it be a complete waste of time, at the very end of the second term, to oust this administration? Or would it possibly stop us from entering WWIII?
- scbysnx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1 yeah.. me suggesting raising the minimum wage raises the cost of living means that rising infrastructure costs, rising cost of materials, rising costs of foreign labor, rising costs of doing business (insurance, tax, assumed "needed" extra's) have nothing to do with the cost of living..
- rcook18, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Pay attention
- Scottamus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They NEED to do this to show that they actually have some balls. I didn't vote for them so they could make empty threats for the next 2 years.
- Pake, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Did you know the iPhone is about to be released? Surely there aren't enough stories about that!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I wish they'd get their sorry white asses into gear and actually do it then!
- scbysnx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@ spudnic its ignorant responses like this that make it impossible for me to have an intelligent conversation here. Believe it or not, the minimum wage isn't the only thing that's different about our economies.. again INFRASTRUCTURE COSTS!!! we have a slightly larger country ya know? But of course you're right.. we should ignore that and raise the wage for workers that contribute little to society and directly affect the cost of product. GENIOUS
- ParanoydAndroid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1On top of which, you also have a radically different tax structure, and a much smaller population.
But let's not let pesky inherent structural differences in our respective national economies get in the way of bad comparisons.
The fact is that every economic decision has varied consequences, both good and bad, and debating this using an apples to oranges comparison is just foolish - mixelplfft, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1DICK CHENEY - WAR CRIMES ... DICK CHENEY - WAR CRIMES ... DICK CHENEY - WAR CRIMES
- sandyg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Couldn't agree more. Excellent idea.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why bother? They seem to get along with things quite quietly, never bothered me. I should think they bring more money to the country in tourism than they take from the government.
- CheckPlease, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Until the word "impeachment" is uttered, I'm not paying attention.
- spudnic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Leaving it low means the poorest people in the country are *****.
We have a much higher national wage over here in the UK, and we seem to get along just fine. - lexicant, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I definitely agree that somthing needs to be done with Cheney. He has certainly overstepped his bounds by claiming he is part of the exec branch for "some laws" and not for others. Seems like a very ironic blow to him lol. If he's not part of the exec branch then stop funding him. Wonder if it will actually have any meaning though.
- fuelcell, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I'm not holding my breath on anything the Democrats promise or hint at - bunch of ***** teases.
- nevetS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1It's a funny idea, but the VP is the leader of the senate and casts the deciding vote in the event of a tie. There are only 49 Dems and they all won't necessarily stick with the party line as opposed to the republicans who time and again have proven they will toe the party vote in the defiance of glaring logic.
- COINTELPROAgent, on 10/11/2007, -6/+6This is a great example of why public approval ratings for congress are lower than Bush's ratings. Their priorities are not the people's priorities.
- kreneskyp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1i really dont see any reason they would cave. cheney not getting his allowance wont hurt US troops. seeing as how cheney is nearing single digit approval ratings this could actually improve their reelection chances.
but to be honest it wont matter what is done. Bush can just direct his accountants to pay money to cheney out of his general budget - Hananda, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1If they can trade funding for Iraq for a minimum wage hike, this has to be worth at least, say, a nice steak dinner.
Still, I guess it's better than no action at all. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Veto...........
- zestyhedgehog, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Wonder how much his allowance as a part of legislative branch will be. If he says that he is the president of Senate, obviously it should be more than the regular congressman or senator allowance.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1hahhhahahaahaha
Proves my point about close minded liberals......dugg down for that reason - scbysnx, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1minimum wage hikes only increase the cost of living and not only negate the minimum wage hike but also make it more expensive overall to live in the country
