- Drahknon, on 10/12/2007, -20/+177I dunno, never-ending quagmire without a plan or exit strategy seems like ignoring the problem to me.
As for the old saw that anything against Bush Administration policy would create another 9/11:
Homer: “Not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol must be working like a charm.”
Lisa: “That’s specious reasoning, Dad.”
Homer: “Thank you, dear.”
Lisa: “By your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.”
Homer: “Oh, how does it work?”
Lisa: “It doesn’t work.”
Homer: “Uh-huh.”
Lisa: “It’s just a stupid rock.”
Homer: “Uh-huh.”
Lisa: “But I don’t see any tigers around, do you?”
Homer: “Lisa, I want to buy your rock.” - gronne, on 10/12/2007, -25/+98Snow is way out of line. What else do you expect from a guy who came from the "liberals are the root of all evil channel." Being told my beliefs are causing all of the problems in the country and if I continue to believe them I should leave...kind of reminds me of something. I wonder if a "liberal arm-band" is on the way.
If Mel Gibson had just said liberals caused all of the wars in the world he'd have his own show on Fox! - verifex, on 10/12/2007, -13/+77A good simpsons quote can solve all problems and heal all wounds. And that one is quite appropriate.

- LordRahl72, on 10/12/2007, -14/+54I can say for a fact that I am more scared of Bush than Bin Laden.
Bush has done MORE to destroy this country than the physical attacks of 9-11. 9-11 killed people and destroyed property and that is a shame. But Bush has done something FAR FAR worse. He has done everything he can to destroy the very thing this country is made of. He has destroyed the very thing that made us a great nation. And anyone that supports his active and ongoing assault on our constitution is far worse than any terrorist could ever hope to be. - joeyjojo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43"If Bush has made America so horrible in your eyes, then you should try making a living in Afghanistan, and then tell me if you still think Bush is more dangerous than Osama."
Ah, yes...great logic. "If you hate america, you should try living as a Brazillian Sea Turtle being tortured in a native american ritual".
Yes, it's always ***** somewhere else. Doesn't change the fact that Bush is, indeed, doing plenty of damage on our own soil. - mikejant, on 10/12/2007, -17/+52@thotpoizn
Snow's comments were not correct or accurate. Along with implying that the left doesn't take the war seriously, and that they would like to "ignore the difficulties and walk away", he also says that America's inability to "stay the course" in 1991 was part of Osama's motivation to attack us. This clever comment seems to imply that if we do not "stay the course" today, we will be attacked again. However, the situation in 1991 was not at all as he suggests. There was no "course" to stay on because no rational person actually thought that starting a long war in the middle east was a good idea. This is a good example of how this administration scares votes out of people. - kemche, on 10/12/2007, -40/+74When I think Bush Admin can't go any lower they do sh*t like this. ***** YOU Tony Snow and this whole Bush Admin.

How on earth did you come to form this opinion?
"and it wasn't until recently that these leftists became the most dominant voice of their party."
It is so grossly and unutterably inaccurate. Here's a hint, check out the Democratic Party's platform now, 10, 20, 30 and 40 years ago and you will see a clear change in ideology moving, as time has progressed, from the left to the center, to the near right. Is the Democratic Party Advocating for wealth redistribution? NO, did they decades ago? Yes. Is gun control even on the agenda? NO, was it? Yes. Did the Democratic Party support a woman's right to choose without any questions in the 70s and 80s? yes, do they now? NO. Did the Democratic Party stand behind worker's rights and Unions in the 60s and 70s? yes, do they now? No.
Get a clue, just because some people go around calling others radical in order to discredit their valid points doesn't mean they're right.
You should be asking why has the Republican Party moved so far right? Whatever happened to the days of Eisenhower advocating universal health care and telling us to beware of the revolving doors of the military-industrial complex? Ike coined that last term, not some leftist. You should be asking why has prayer in schools become a plank on the Republican platform when they were always against it? And why do they only give lip service to small business instead of supporting them while giving money hand over fist to companies like Exxon-Mobil or that neither need or deserve our hard earned tax dollars.
But Snow was right about one thing.
"Throughout American history, generation through generation has been faced with difficulties, and each generation has risen to the challenge and we’re confident this generation will do the same."
except that difficulty is not the war on terror, it is the vast ocean of misinformation, the disgraceful use of wedge issues and the abundant abuses of power and a number of other things that have served to subvert our now former democracy. - ROBERTCAT, on 10/12/2007, -18/+46Disgusting.

I am with you except that Iran armband story, although completely false, tells you how the Bush administration and the neoconservative community works.
Here's the background: on May 19th, Canada's National Post published a story by Amir Taheri where he claims that Iran had passed the law on separate dress code for Jews and other. Taheri is a known neoconservative represented by Benador Associates.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benador_Associates
This story is of coursed echoed in all the right wing blogs as reasons for a regime change - "we will be welcomed as liberators" - in Iran.
However, hours after the story was posted online National Post of Canada retracted it as people immediately cast doubts on Taheri's assertions. Five days later, National Post issued a full apology to its readers on May 24th stating "the story is not true." http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=6df3e493-f350-4b53-bc16-53262b49a4f7
Do you want to the the scary part is? One week later, Amir Taheri, the now discredited neoconservative, was invited to the White House and had a face-to-face with the President as an "expert" on Iraq.

Uhhh....This is a Wookie...and Wookies live on Endor.... - easycheez, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25We are creating a never ending stream of "terrorists" by being in the Middle East. If someone killed my family, distant or not, I would avenge them. I think most people feel the same. 9/11 Happened due to a lack of foresight on our behalf, we regulate arms and chemicals, all dangerous things, why would they not regulate access to the cockpits of airplanes. We need to learn our lesson and make our security better here. A good offense is the best defense but it can not be our only plan, and that seems to be the case in this administration.

Our enemies don't need any help from us in the being bold department. If their strategy is to bankrupt us by involving us in a war we can't win half-way around the world, then who's supporting their strategy?
"but we absolutely must not abandon Iraq as we did Vietnam, grasping defeat from the jaws of victory."
If you think Viet Nam was in the jaws of victory when we pulled out that says, loud and clear, that you weren't alive during the Viet Nam conflict. We lost 55,000 people in Nam, kid, and didn't take a mile of their territory. That's a pretty ***** up definition of victory. We could have stayed there another ten years, dropped millions more bombs. They'd still be there and more of our guys would be dead.
We're wasting our people, our military hardware and our national treasure on a country with its history bathed in blood. We could stay there 'till the end of time and it's still going to be a dust bowl at the ass end of the universe. The only question is how much we're going to spend and how many more good people have to die before ***** like you wake up to what's obvious to everyone else on the planet? - drowningfish, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24Excuse me but who the hell does Tony Snow think he is to be preaching to the Nation and the State of Conn saying we're handing these terrorists a blank check to attack us by voting out fanatical, war-mongering, Bush Administration puppets?
The tides are changing Snow. People like you are done.
After listening to him I have never wanted a revolution in this Country more than I do right now.
I'm sorry but I needed to rant after listening to him. It got me fired up.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+159-11 will never happen again. We're wasting billions combating something that can't ever happen on a US airliner. The only reason they got away with it the first time is hundreds of people sat in their seats and let them do it. Because they had "just cooperate" with criminals drilled into their head.
Five people will never be able to commondere an airliner again, no matter how much hardware they smuggle on board. Because now everyone on every plane knows they're dead if they get to the flight deck.
Unfortunately that attitude is still alive and well in America. Maybe not on airplanes, but change the context and people will react just as badly. - LordRahl72, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16mrscotter you want to know why I have more respect for Bin Laden than Bush?
Because Bin Laden does not beat around the Bush, if you should meet him somewhere he will simply kill you and move on. You know his intentions and he does not hide the fact that he would kill you if given the chance.
Now Bush on the other hand he is the kind of guy that if you met somewhere he would act all nice to your face. Then as soon as you turn around he would take your wallet then stab you in the back. Then send your wife off to China in exchange for our trade deficit and send your kids to a slave labor sweat shop where they will be forced to work 20 hours a day for $.10 a hour so he won’t have to pay too much for his next pair of shoes. - PatrickX, on 10/12/2007, -13/+27I hate Tony Snow

The Bush administration attacked Afghanistan to help themselves and their scumbag friends.
The pipeline now being built from the Caspian sea through Afghanistan is what started many of the current events. Afghanistan was chosen as the "easiest" plan, even though running it through Iran would be shorter. But the conclusion was made that it would be a lot harder to put in place a new government in Iran than it would in Afghanistan.
In February, 1998 the VP of UNOCAL, Mr. John J. Maresca stood before the Congress lobbying for the overthrowing of the government of Afghanistan.
His problem was that the Talibans, whom they had threatened with a "carpet of bombs" if they didn't do what Unocal wanted, had of course said bye-bye to Unocal and were instead going to let the Argentinian company Bridas to do the giant pipeline project.
The Talibans had managed to not only drive all of the warlords and their criminal gangs from the major cities where they had been in control for years, murdering and raping women and kids. The Talibans also managed to eradicate ALL of the Opium fields the different bandit gangs were running in the country for "foreign interests".
This was "not good, not good at all". The Talibans then had to "be stopped at all cost".
And, with the help from the corporate media, the propaganda against the "horrible Talibans" started.
Educate yourself before speaking and showing off your embarrassing ignorance.

a majority of the Iraqi government is anti american and want us out, the newly elected iraqi president threatened to go to the UN and demand we set a timetable to leave, after intence preasure from the us, he backed off.. they probably threatened to kick him out of the green zone. This is also why he is making apoint to say that IRaq will control most of iraq by christmas. THEY WANT US OUT. A good bit of the government is allied with hezbollah and iran our current enemies.Iraq used to be enemies with hezbollah and IRAN. This is the Iraq we created.Rather than create a middle east more friendly with the US and safer we have created the mess we see now.
So if we are waiting for the government to want us to go we should have been gone already..

Republicans can change, too--they used to stand for giving everyone the same level of opportunity in society with minimal government interference. Lincoln was a good Republican, but it kinda went downhill from there--every Republican after him up until Wilson was pretty much a corrupt, inept, powerless, utterly forgettable president (other than Teddy, who the Republicans didn't really even want in office, anyway, and who later abandoned the party).
Now Republicans stand for massive government spending on hopeless and misguided foreign entanglements, interfering with the lives of American citizens with wiretapping,
Democrats have a pretty nasty past--inept and unforgettable presidents from about Jackson to Wilson--but they've changed for the better, away from the racist pro-slavery, pro-segregationist party.
