- Caffeinate, on 11/12/2007, -7/+63It is amazing how facts have a blatant liberal bias, isn't it? It is also funny how some people are suddenly in an uproar about negative campaigning - how dare anyone bring up evidence that incumbents fell down on the job while in office, got sickeningly wealthy during their term, and vote to restrict Americans while they themselves get away with stark and blatant crimes! Someone really needs to prevent the truth from getting out, because it is making many of those currently in office look bad.
- pintomp3, on 11/06/2007, -3/+41the us tends to favor military dictators, we have helped over throw many democracies to install them.
- carbon12, on 11/06/2007, -3/+38Same thing in Egypt. People were promised by the American government that they could have democracy but when they went to vote, they were beaten by the police while the US did nothing. It was all just a farce, the US would never let their pro-Israel puppet Egyptian government be taken out of office.
It's always the same ***** from the American government, why can't they just mind their own business? - inactive, on 11/05/2007, -7/+38Studies have shown that the mainstream media actually has a huge neoconservative (far right wing) bias, not liberal. The myth of the msm having a liberal bias was invented by the neocons & the GOP (aka: spin, lies, party propaganda). And in fact the msm has been steadily moving further towards the right for years. Even the LA Times, NYT, & Washington Post have all hired neocon (far right wing) writers in recent years.
- SheilaNoya, on 11/05/2007, -3/+31This whole push for "Democracy" puzzles me. We keep saying we're all for it, but we don't seem to like the outcome when it actually takes place. Some examples:
Lebanese - Voted in Hezbollah as part of their government (terrorists according to Bush).
Palestinians - Voted for Hamas (terrorists according to Bush)
Iraq - Voted for their favorite Mullahs and Islamic Clerics (they back Islamic fundamentalism and Death Squads)
We need to make sure people actually LIKE US before we insist they get to vote for their leaders. Otherwise, the only thing we end up with is a bunch of anti-American governments which have been democratically elected and we have no right to bitch about it. I wonder if the Saudis would vote for pro-American leaders (yeah, sure!).
Now we have Pakistan being led by Musahrraf, a man who took over in a military coup - He's a dictator who just held skewed elections and is about to be ousted out of power by his own Supreme Court. Do we really want the Pakistanis to have fair elections? Do we really think they are going to vote for pro-American leaders?
We need to work on winning their "hearts and minds" before insisting that the people get to pick their own leaders. So far, the Bush Administration has only stirred up MORE hatred against the U.S., yet he thinks everyone will vote for leaders who are friendly to us. This whole "nation building" process is insane the way Bush is handling it. - IrishJoe, on 11/04/2007, -5/+28Well, if you'd read the article instead of just making comments based on your knee jerk response, you might learn something.
- jerryparid, on 11/05/2007, -4/+26Pervez Musharraf has been considered a crucial US ally; Bush does not care about what kind of person he is. Simply, if there is a thread of benefit to be gained, it is for the good of the US.
- brentinkc, on 11/05/2007, -2/+23Wait...some of Bush and Cheney's carefully laid plans didn't go exactly as drawn up?
I am overwhelmed with shock. - bratpack8, on 11/05/2007, -5/+23So was Saddam and Osama 20 years ago. WTF are we meddling in these foreign countries affairs? History shows every time we meddle, it comes back to kick our asses later.
Ron Paul 2008. - kronix2, on 11/05/2007, -0/+18None more spectacularly than the democratically elected anti-Communist Prime Minister of Iran.
Who'd the US replace him with? An authoritarian puppet dictator, of course... - Mardala, on 11/05/2007, -1/+19I think we just need to stay out of other people business and get this country on a sustainable path.
- Mardala, on 11/05/2007, -3/+21and all these people talking about bombing Iran because of their nuclear ambitions? Doesn't anybody remember that Musharraf has nuclear capabilities? and I wonder where he got that from?
- Dannychico, on 11/05/2007, -3/+19The mainstream media used to be considered largely liberal because of its solid history of investigative reporting. Because so many of those investigations targeted Republican lawmakers, it seemed as if the media had an axe to grind against the right. The sad fact of the matter, though, is that the Right has been notoriously crooked for 60 years. During the Bush administration, however, the media has been seen to slant far to the right. Here are the reasons:
1) The ratings success of Fox News. Other organizations scrambled to replicate their sensationalist, reactionary, and outright untruthful reporting.
2) The War(s). War is big business for news organizations, because it means lots of viewers constantly tuning in (or reading). So those organizations become friends of war.
3) Media consolidation. With the exception of small, independent papers across the country, almost all news outlets are now owned by huge, multinational corporations. Those companies all apply subtle pressure to lean right (or not-so-subtle, as is the case with News Corp.). - briansearles, on 11/05/2007, -2/+15Blowback?
Somebody had to say it. - CanIGetAWitness, on 11/04/2007, -4/+16Bias does not preclude truth.
- jo42, on 11/05/2007, -2/+13The whole US of A Middle East policy has been a 'spectacular' fustercluck since day one.
- throop77, on 11/05/2007, -1/+11Good point. We piss off everyone in the world and break up governments and then tell them to vote. Sure enough, they vote for someone who shares their hatred.
- tcpip4lyfe, on 11/04/2007, -0/+9"There IS a reason the NYT is loosing money and readership hand over fist....it SUCKS."
All major newspapers are loosing money and readership because of the Internet. - ZenMojo, on 11/05/2007, -1/+10When a "study" uses the Ayn Rand Institute as a "liberal" source, then you know something's wrong.
- pintomp3, on 11/05/2007, -2/+10you don't even have to look at who works there, just look at who owns the corporate media.
http://www.freepress.net/ownership/chart.php?chart ... - Mardala, on 11/05/2007, -0/+7Take two minutes and read about Pakistan and their democratic elections, also the bit about Musharraf over throwing the government in the late nineties.

If you walk around the school yard punching random people, at some point one is going to hit you back. Whats the right thing to do? Just keep fighting or take the punch as a wake up call and stop being a bully
- azimir, on 11/05/2007, -0/+7They're part of the nuclear club. That alone makes your country more difficult to combat in any conventional manner.
It is also the reason so many countries are quietly trying to put together nuclear programs. They all saw that once North Korea blew up something that may or may not have been an atomic weapon all of the rich countries got real careful about how to deal with the N. Korean government. We proceeded to give them money and support to not make any more atomic weapons, and that reinforces that other countries should try doing it themselves. - EarlOfLade, on 11/05/2007, -3/+9As long as they have people like you and the current administration and who thinks that USA is above everyone else and can do as they want without consideration to the consequences, yes.
When I listen to you right wingers, I sometimes wonder if you have ver been outside momma's basement, you sure as hell have no idea what goes on outside your own little cubbyhole. You continue to think you are so damn special, when the rest of the world laughs at you. USA is no longer considered a stable and sane country. Heck, over 50% of you believe in creationism and think the universe is only 6000 years old and think the scientists are "evil madmen and god haters" and evolution is the work of the devil. What the ***** do you expect the rest of the sane world to believe?
Get some sanity back into this country, shoot down all the religious nutjobs and wackos and start doing something smart on the world stage instead of talking about bombing this country, invading that country and killing "towel heads" and other brilliant descriptions, then maybe you will get some respect back.
Btw, I don't like Chavez, so there you have it. - EarlOfLade, on 11/05/2007, -1/+7http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdul_Qadeer_Khan
- kronix2, on 11/05/2007, -1/+7He blames Israel?
Send this guy to Guantanamo Bay! How dare he criticise the Chosen People?! How dare he doesn't do the bidding of Israel?! - mrjit, on 11/05/2007, -1/+7Seriously.
- thebellmaster1x, on 11/05/2007, -0/+6No, we can't, because neither of them is our current president. And neither is sitting in D.C., right now, trying to come up with a new way to ***** our country. Find a better argument.
- kronix2, on 11/05/2007, -3/+9Musharraf is a military dictator who came to power in a military coup, overthrowing the democratically elected leader of Pakistan.
Naturally, Bush embraced him and elevated him to the top tier of US allies.
Musharraf is only interested in holding onto power. - rthakidn, on 11/04/2007, -2/+8I won't disagree with you, but if you claim "studies have shown" then you should provide them.
- angrybulldog, on 11/05/2007, -4/+10uh, that'd be "no, incorrect!"
Prevez installed himself as President in a coup. Worse, our, scratch that, yours and mine, $10B to Pakistan has kept us from capturing bin Laden and given safe haven to a black market Nuclear Scientist who gave Nuclear secrets to our friends in Libya, N. Korea and Iran.
nice friend, that Muscharaff, real nice - nihilite, on 11/05/2007, -0/+5i don't like hillary, but f*(k you for the generalization. Our dislike of the homogenized ***** in the msm is not partisan.
- thebellmaster1x, on 11/04/2007, -0/+5There's a difference between natural disasters and foreign policy, you jackass.
- TexMurphy, on 11/05/2007, -2/+7"American-backed military dictator who is risking civil instability in a country with nuclear weapons and an increasingly alienated public"
Way to go right wing Republicans another disaster in US Foreign Policy. Democracy in Pakistan is no more. Bush is the best requiting tool for the terrorists. Iraq war is a requiting tool for terrorists. Now Pakistan will be a requiting tool for terrorists. Every thing bush touches with the help of the Neocons goes to ***** and who pays we do. Makes me laugh every time Bush apologists say this a good thing. Civil war in Pakistan, a country with a Nucular bomb. Really right wingers ? - JonnyTrombone, on 11/05/2007, -4/+9The last pro-Israel Egyptian president was shot. Mubarak couldn't give two ***** about Israel.
- MWeather, on 11/05/2007, -1/+5So you're saying we shouldn't have invaded Iraq?
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -3/+7what? even this dictatorship is US's doing? why am i not surprised.
- Acewrap, on 11/06/2007, -10/+14Why don't you people ***** off and go back to LGF & freerepublic? You aren't wanted here. Go away. You are not welcome.
- thevelvetsun, on 11/04/2007, -0/+4http://digg.com/world_news/Media_Black_Out_Phones_ ...
Direct link from NY Times - thebellmaster1x, on 11/05/2007, -0/+4I really don't say I'm for democracy. Sure, yes, I'm all for it here in the U.S., but why the hell are we telling other countries to change their governments? How is that any of our business? George Washington knew that it wasn't; that's why he told us to not do it. Nobody listened to him, I guess.
- ukickmydog, on 11/05/2007, -3/+7no *****, pakistan has one of the highest concentration of extremists, I still don't understand why we don't even think about attacking them but randomly attacking iran
- raskali, on 11/05/2007, -5/+9This is just a dry run to see how it goes. Bush will be doing exactly the same thing next year in the US, declaring an emergency and postponing the vote.
- kronix2, on 11/05/2007, -1/+4So Tony Blair was a left-wing anti-war EU leader?
***** idiot. - ZenMojo, on 11/05/2007, -5/+8You mean Jimmy Carter's Iran Policy that ended with no lives lost? And Bubba Clinton's policy of ignoring and appeasing a group that didn't actually ask for anything or threaten anything? Sure, let's talk about it.
- sanman, on 11/05/2007, -2/+5Read about the Pressler Amendment (originally known as the Reagan-Bush Amendment)
It removed congressional oversight on the issue of nuclear proliferation to Pakistan from the hands of Congress, and put it solely in the hands of the President, who had the discretionary power to turn a blind eye.
This is then exactly what happened -- the Reagan and Bush presidencies turned a blind eye to Pakistan's ever-increasing acquisition of nuclear technology, and its trade in these technologies with other countries.
Now the US is today paying for its own past sins in turning that blind eye. - ralph12c41, on 11/05/2007, -4/+7quote" AND there was no such thing as terrorism before Bush"
You sir, are poorly informed. Difficult to argue with a fool.... - twisterrust, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3" still don't understand why we don't even think about attacking them " coz probably you are an *****??
IT is not OK to attack any country!! why the ***** you can't understand that?? - Jamihabs, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3Here is an article in today's NY Times full of compliments for Chavez. Go figure
http://jammiewearingfool.blogspot.com/2007/11/chve ... - theelectricafro, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3Reality declares the Bush _____________________ policy a disastrous failure! (Pretend its a madlib)
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3"We need to make sure people actually LIKE US before we insist they get to vote for their leaders."
You miss the point. We need to stop "insisting" anything. We need to mind our own business. -
