- supernovanights, on 12/11/2008, -6/+303This question is gaining ground:
"Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?"
Go to page two and vote it up now! Lets try to get our voice out there. - MurphyWatson, on 12/12/2008, -5/+177Making Marijuana illegal in the first place was getting on the slippery slope.
- OmegaWolf, on 12/12/2008, -4/+136Legalize it. People have the right to live their lives any way they please as long as they don't harm others.
- supernovanights, on 12/12/2008, -3/+128Does ANYBODY think its right that in my home state, Louisiana, not only do you lose your right to vote if you are caught with marijuana, but you become a felon, you lose your job, you lose your financial aid, and you can face jail time.
It's time for REAL change.
Go vote that question up. It takes 5 seconds, really. - TheJimid, on 12/11/2008, -4/+115Legalize.Medicate.Regulate

The argument for "change" is economic. Money talks. Nobody, despite rhetoric, gives a ***** about freedom, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, etc. - Barackalypse, on 12/12/2008, -15/+107I'm going on record right now, Obama isn't legalizing drugs, he's not rocking the boat, he's stacked his cabinet full of business as usual insiders. The best you can hope for is for him to instruct the Attorney General to stop going after people in States with medical marijuana laws or sign an executive order to that effect or try and get that passed into law.
- the2989, on 12/11/2008, -3/+88There's a whole bunch of good questions on the same general topic.
http://moderator.change.gov/?embed=http://change.g ... - inactive, on 12/12/2008, -10/+92I miss Ron Paul.
- supernovanights, on 12/12/2008, -6/+73Marijuana can't hurt you, it cannot cause lung cancer (the one study that claimed it could was a sample of marijuana smokers. What you find out actually reading the study itself, 87 of the 95 cases of lung cancer they studied, the marijuana smokers also smoked cigarettes. The effect of THC is neuroprotective, it induces apoptosis in cancer cells, it stimulates the apetite and reduces the pain of many ailments... it has very few negative side effects, it is pleasurable, much safer than alcohol, much safer than tobacco, can be grown easily, and legalizing it will end the black market crime centered around it.
This is an important issue for all Americans. - jakereilly, on 12/12/2008, -7/+581. Let the voters think you care about their opinions in the form of a website where they can talk about the issues.
2. Ignore those opinions.
3. Continue with the drug war to fund your corporate and lobbyist buddies.
4. Laugh. - Echota, on 01/05/2009, -4/+51Legallize it.Stupid not to!
- darladoon, on 12/12/2008, -11/+53the one thing preventing the legalization of marijuana is:
moral outrage
that's it. - ninepointfive, on 12/12/2008, -3/+40you are a hypocrite
- highlymodified, on 12/12/2008, -4/+40Slippery slope towards what?
Less intrusive government?
Medical care, not prison, for addiction?
Lower taxes?
Legalize everything. - thatsgoodkarma, on 12/12/2008, -4/+39Ron Paul has his ***** together. I'm really disappointed he didn't get farther than he did.
- thatsgoodkarma, on 12/12/2008, -3/+35Stoned driver would've forgot what he was doing on his way to the car, turned around and went back inside to play more Halo.
- StewVader, on 12/12/2008, -2/+33Alcohol = drug (moron) and is just as much of a gateway as any other DRUG
The US has a huge alcoholism problem too... Keep drinkin' the Kool Aid, captain Naive - normlsparky, on 12/12/2008, -5/+36Yeah, if we legalize Marijuana people might start smoking it. Oh wait...
- Craig304958, on 12/12/2008, -1/+31Don't forget the entire industries that benefit from continuing prohibition. And I don't mean street corner black market participants looking for some quick cash. I mean those who rake in millions from money laundering (merger between Citibank and Banamex, anyone?), corruption on both sides of the border, anti-liberty politicians who need an easy way to distract people from the other stuff they get up to, prison guards and the greed-driven private prison industry... it's a very long list.
- Jazzillion, on 12/12/2008, -4/+33The third question on the front page has to deal with legalizing marijuana. Please vote this to No. 1 to force Obama to address this issue publicly.

The question: "Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?" - the2989, on 12/12/2008, -2/+30I bet you thought reefer madness was real.
- dball48, on 12/12/2008, -1/+28He just dances around the issue, watch the Ron Paul video if you want to hear a common sense straight-forward answer.
- pbcar, on 12/12/2008, -2/+28Impossible. Totally stoned driver would be going 5 mph, not 55.
- NikoKun, on 12/11/2008, -2/+27Or by searching Marijuana, too. lol, more direct.
I'm a little put off that this particular digg submission is of a question with only a few hundred votes... When there are a couple really good Marijuana-related questions with Thousands of votes so far.
This one is the top, in 12th place... And I hope people help to keep it there or higher, rather than spreading out the votes over many questions... Might be better to focus on one good one.
http://moderator.change.gov/?embed=http://change.g ... - Gman1223, on 12/12/2008, -4/+29I guess in your world, people like me who use it medically would be *****.
***** You. - cyph3r05, on 12/12/2008, -2/+26It does have its negative effects, but lets face it, Marijuana users do not generally hurt anyone else with their usage and it is not very harmful to the user. Alcohol on the other hand has much greater damage to the society and to the user. LEGALIZE! getting high is fun
- Barackalypse, on 12/12/2008, -12/+35Just like you guys got your voice out there about telcom immunity, which Obama promptly sold you all out on by voting for FISA anyway?
- NikoKun, on 12/11/2008, -3/+25Course this is just 1 of many others, posted there. Search for Marijuana or other keywords to find more.
Currently, this one is on the second page of most popular, in 12th place:
http://moderator.change.gov/?embed=http://change.g ... - supernovanights, on 12/12/2008, -1/+21Wow guys. The question is #4!
- twiztidsinz, on 12/12/2008, -2/+22Bush did do coke (and looking at him and his decisions, probably still did) and all we got was a pardon of a guy with millions of liquid coke.
- NikoKun, on 12/12/2008, -2/+22The Drug Czar does NOT make the drug laws... He is only responsible for managing and enforcing it.
If the President/Congress/People wanted to make Marijuana legal, he really wouldn't have much say in the matter.
Oh sure, he might be very vocal in his opposition to it... but that certainly isn't a deciding factor. - Iwantawii, on 12/12/2008, -1/+20http://i35.tinypic.com/15s57c4.jpg
:'( - bunghole999, on 12/12/2008, -6/+25Obama will not legalize marijuana because then industrial hemp (marijuana's close relative) will be legal and non-regulated, which would lead to hemp fuel, hemp textiles, hemp paper, etc... and would be a blow to certain corporations.... all the while benefiting the common man.....Welcome to the corporate fascist war on hemp, alive since 1937 ! It is NOT marijuana Obama and his buddies dislike, it is hemp. Obama's a puppet. Wait and see...
- ronincowboy, on 12/12/2008, -5/+24Too bad he already picked his drug czar: Rep. Jim Ramstad. The guy is well known for his hard line, anti-drug policies. I guess we'll just have to hope for change in other regards because with Ramstad as czar there is no way drug law is going to change.
- normlsparky, on 12/11/2008, -2/+20Use their own information against them:

Obama's position on Marijuana. - layzice, on 12/12/2008, -1/+19Yep, just like all of the people who grow their own tobacco to evade taxes.
- 15thPD, on 12/12/2008, -0/+18Drug dogs spend their entire lives dreaming of becoming seeing-eye dogs. Legalizing marijuana would only make that dream come true. Think of the dogs!
- threat42, on 12/12/2008, -2/+19You're stupid. It's not a gateway drug.
Studies have shown that the only reason people try other, harder drugs is because THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH ILLEGAL AVENUES TO OBTAIN MARIJUANA IN THE FIRST PLACE, and are then exposed to other drugs that you can obtain from drug dealers.
Think about it. What if you had to justify the social climate of alcohol during prohibition? Who made the money on alcohol then? Organized crime.
Do some ***** research before you open your mouth. - someguy92, on 12/12/2008, -0/+17Buried for ignorance of good object oriented design.
- censormagnet, on 12/12/2008, -1/+18and cia profits
and private prison system profits - JustinHopewell, on 12/12/2008, -0/+16Yeah, gotta agree. Ron Paul was totally straightforward and there wasn't any hesitation in the way he worded his response. I hope he sticks around and keeps fighting the good fight.
- NorthMass, on 12/12/2008, -2/+18Ron Paul 2012
- jakereilly, on 12/12/2008, -2/+18wow, aren't you the little uninformed bigot.
If someone wants to do drugs, they should be able to, just as alcoholics and consume beer.
Weed is harmless. Repeat after me. HARMLESS. It has never killed anyone. Aspirin has killed more.
Legalize it, and the world would be safer than your fantasy crackpot world of illegal drug cartels and huge overflowing prisons.
dolt. - furbyboy, on 12/12/2008, -2/+17instead of arguing about what he would say in response to this question, sign up, vote for it, and find out...
- tgc1, on 12/12/2008, -1/+16Oh for ***** sakes. IT'S A PLANT. Legalize it already. I mean really... all this bickering and whining from both sides over a plant. Something that grows in nature. Honestly the government is totally out of line on this issue.
- FreddieD, on 12/12/2008, -1/+16Probably because Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal is essentially Sarah Palin but without the goofy winking and "you betcha's".
- inactive, on 12/11/2008, -1/+16It's not "paranoid and unhappy" to know history. Learn from it.

Ask yourself this, if you had to choose, who would you want coming at you head-on on a two lane road at 3 in the morning going 55mph. . . someone totally stoned. . or. . .someone drunk on their ass. -
