- kushed, on 10/26/2007, -0/+177So my tax money is paying for this guy to get high and for me to get arrested for doing the same? My brain is about to explode.
- NikoKun, on 11/01/2007, -3/+115Irv Rosenfeld is living proof of Medical Marijuana's effectiveness and safety. But of course our government ignores him and doesn't want to know how well it works for them... As acknowledging him would mean they're acknowledging their own hypocrisy. The only reason they supply him with medical cannabis is because he fought the federal government for it, back in the 80s, and proved medical necessity, that he had to have this medicine, or he would die, or at least become unproductive. (which of course now they don't allow as a defense anymore -_-, medical necessity doesn't apply anymore, cause they wont let it.)
This man's existence, should have been enough as it is right now, to have at least medical use, legal across the country... But our government remains hypocritical...
When do they ever act logical, on the subject of Marijuana? lol - tdelet, on 10/26/2007, -0/+97My question is this, who in the government is actually in charge of rolling joints?
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -2/+85He must smoke two joints before he smokes two joints... and he smokes two more.
- Nupeper, on 10/26/2007, -1/+64I'm all for pot as a medicine, my mom has fibromialgia, she's in constant and severe pain, and she takes vicodin, pot (with a vaporizer) would be so much better for her, even her Dr.s have told her that, but she's too afraid of losing her job and getting arrested, I hate to see her in pain, esp. knowing there is something that could help her and she's not aloud to have it
- zyl0x, on 10/26/2007, -2/+55I find it funny that the government won't supply people with MJ, but they'll supply people with morphine without any problems.
MJ = not addictive
Morphine = EXTREMELY addictive
Oh, but the government knows this. That's why they invented heroin; to get the addicts off morphine. Now they arrest you for doing heroin. Governments and hypocrisy go hand-in-hand. - dreagen, on 10/26/2007, -1/+53For all of you that think that Marijuana smokers are lazy, unproductive and stupid. Look at some of the videos on youtube with him speaking and you will see that there are intellegent marijuana smokers. because of marijuana he is a productive and successful member of society.
- consoneo, on 10/26/2007, -0/+46Yes, it should be proof enough...
It's too bad that the US Government is now acting similar to how the Catholic Church did in the dark ages. They are holding back certain ideas that will carry the US forward, and change the status quo. We saw what it did then, and we're seeing it right now, all over again. History is important, but no one important ever learns it. It's ***** sad.
/rant off - NinjaBoy, on 10/30/2007, -0/+45The thing about marijuana smokers is that 90% of Americans are lazy and people tend to use it as an excuse "Oh i would have done that but i got high" that could just as easily be "I was going to do that, but then American idol came on" You don't really hear much from productive and smart users because acknowledging that one smokes isn't very wise as it could lead to loosing your job and or doing some jail time. So the main people you hear talking about marijuana users are just normal brain dead and lazy Americans. Digg of course are an exception ;)
- digitalmoto, on 10/26/2007, -4/+45The government should just get on with it and legalize pot. Its positive effects far outweigh any negative effects.
Hell, they could even tax the stuff and reduce the deficit at the same time as getting high. - xGeneric, on 10/26/2007, -3/+29Yeah what people don't realize is that the quality of the Fed's Marijuana is total crap(Not talking about State institutions here). I don't feel like digging through Google to find the articles, but there have been many reports of the Fed's Marijuana being full of stems and seeds, which indicates poor quality. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe it's illegal to smoke the Government pot in any way other than the way it's packaged... in Joints. So they fill the Joints with low quality pot(which is more dangerous as you have to smoke more to acheive the same high), and tell you it's illegal to open them, so if you do, you can't legally complain.
They use this tactic for a few reasons. One of the biggest downsides to this I've heard, is the skewed studies based around the pot. You know, some guy has to smoke a couple of joints to get high, so they report the amount of lung damage from those two joints as the danger. However, if they were to provide higher quality Marijuana, the lung damage would be less as the smoke intake would be less, thus making Marijuana seem like a more appealing pain killer than opiates. Of course, if they had any ounce of humanity in them, they'd provide good quality pot and vaporizers, but they won't. They need to keep the bias against pot, and in the face of overwhelming logic to legalize it for medical use, they resort to dirty and deceitful tactics to get what they want.
300 Joints is a hell of a lot. They could certainly save this guy some lung damage and prescribe some better pot and a vaporizer. But no, this is our Government. Our safety is only an after thought, something only important when votes are on the line.
Just Google something like "Federal Marijuana Poor Quality" and you'll see what I mean. It's not a new trick, I first heard about it years ago, and I'm sure it was going on years before that. - geoffoliver, on 10/26/2007, -0/+22There was an episode of Penn & Teller's show ***** called "War on Drugs" and they interviewed this guy. Pretty good episode all around, but watching this guy smoke a joint in front of the White House and the Capitol building is just great!
- Lynxplus, on 10/26/2007, -0/+21HyPoCriTiCal - I love how my tax money funds 2 wars which i completely disagree with.
- Pimpalicious316, on 10/26/2007, -1/+18what, you think all the people arrested for possession are just sitting in their cells? government puts them to work.
- Blue_Eon, on 10/26/2007, -0/+17That would mean having to admit they were wrong all of these years, and you know how government is, they will do anything to not have to admit they were wrong. I'd like to see it legalized too, but sadly, this current administration will not budge on their idiotic stance.
- pianomahnn, on 10/26/2007, -2/+18"Still, most people understand that, illegal or not, marijuana is a very beneficial treatment for patients with certain conditions."
*****. If "most people" understood this it would be legal. Rephrase it to "some people understand while a great many more are simply ignorant to the fact that..." - maxpower17@digg, on 10/26/2007, -5/+20This guy is my new hero
- LogicBomB, on 10/26/2007, -1/+16You're making the rest of us look bad by using terms like "chronic" and suggesting you'd get high all day long.
We don't want weed legal so you can prove the stereotypes right. Everytime one of us tries arguing our points with non-informed people all they think of is people like you getting high and being useless.
Smoke it all you want, by all means, but at least TRY to show some maturity about it. - 93TILL503, on 10/26/2007, -4/+17If the government was hooking me up with chronic, I would bypass joints and go straight to hitting the volcano all day.
- Phrag, on 10/26/2007, -3/+16What are you, 8 years old?
- Seannaz453, on 10/26/2007, -0/+13Best analogy I've heard all week.
- JDoorjam, on 10/26/2007, -0/+13The Joint Chiefs of Staff, duh.
- planckstudios, on 10/26/2007, -0/+13http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvzX8aNwxgM
More information about Irvin Rosenfeld - testifying in front of a court in Michigan. Wake the ***** up America. - Gerbil_Juice, on 10/30/2007, -0/+12With 300 joints to smoke each month, do you think there's a time he's NOT high?
- a1532b, on 10/26/2007, -0/+11Haha! If one of your joints equals 10 bowls, you either have a very small bowl or roll some VERY large joints. And smoking 1/2 oz a day? You must be rich! Either way, wanna hang out? :D
- oldhick, on 10/26/2007, -0/+11Why do you hate?
- Phrag, on 10/26/2007, -1/+12It had nothing to do with the ninth circuit since he was from Florida and the case was heard in DC. Do you know what happens when you make assumptions?
No one is trying to apply one option to all situation besides the federal government. No one is saying that all people must use medical marijuana. What the proponents of medical marijuana are saying is that it should be allowed as an option if patients and their doctor's feel that it is appropriate. What the government says is that no one has any valid medical use for marijuana despite their own studies showing evidence to the contrary.
Yes if someone wants to end their life, that is their decision. Oregon has a law that allows for doctor assisted suicide and it has worked fine and allowed many people to die with dignity instead of living out a life overtaken by suffering and almost inevitably ending their own life in a much more violence and undignified way. Who are you or the government to say how long I should live my life? Neither you nor the government have any right to do that. - Proximity, on 10/27/2007, -0/+11Yeah I've seen articles on this guy before. What boggles my mind is that they'd set up a program to see if it's effective, the patient says "it's effective", and they ignore it and turn around and say "It's not effective. It has no medicinal use."
What?? - TaylorTAP, on 10/26/2007, -0/+11Try comparing weed to something like Xanax which is more addictive and dangerous then morphine and incredible easier to get.
- eviltandem, on 10/26/2007, -0/+11What am I supposed to take that to mean? That someone else can come up with a more expensive and difficult to produce alternative?
Why would I want to pay more for the same thing I can get from a drug that literally grows on trees? - syukton, on 10/26/2007, -0/+10But I bet you can sure tell when you aren't.
- republicker, on 10/26/2007, -0/+10We certainly don't want them labeling cannabis as "medicine" then you would get the chair for possessing it. They are currently trying to get vitamin c labeled as a drug and any other health supplement labeled as a drug. This has got to end. Where does it end, do we regulate water because it "cures" dehydration. No, we don't.
- missingnoh4x, on 10/26/2007, -0/+10Regardless of where you stand on this issue, I think we can all agree that the government needs to make up its ***** mind.
- Phrag, on 10/26/2007, -3/+13And where exactly did you get your doctorate? Oh that's right. You don't have one and are only making the generalization that no doctor in their right mind would make. You can't say that there is something else that does what pot does for all people in all situations. There is no evidence to support that and it is impossible to conclude that for every person on earth.
- MrWhite7, on 10/26/2007, -1/+11The drug war was founded in racism (pot smoking mexicans and opium smoking chinese) but now it's grounded in money. Guess what happens to tobacco sales if pot is legalized? Well, if the door is opened to everyone for medical use, guess what happens next...full use. Following that is the breakdown of the tobacco industry. The Govt and the tobacco lobby are both probably well aware that they could make more money if this happened, but neither wants to be crushed by the industry shift when this would take place.
Run for office people, because your vote is worthless to a politician who receives hundreds of votes and money from the tobacco industry. - Bajeda, on 10/25/2007, -0/+10How about spending the tax cash on rehabilitation programs to be used in lieu of excessive prison sentences for users of addictive and often damaging drugs? Especially since the anti-drug commercials have been shown to be useless (google drug policy alliance and find a wealth of information). I have to say though, I'd rather that a few heartless corporations didn't have a legitimate monopoly over cannabis production, the quality would suck and they'd probably start putting messed up chemicals in it or something in the name of profit.
- slapballs, on 10/26/2007, -2/+11God I wish it would get legalized just so people would stop whining about it. Yeah, pot's great. It's a miracle drug it's fun to do recreational, it's harmless and way safer than alcohol and blah blah blah... I have nothing against pot. I've been known to indulge from time to time. I just don't see why people live their lives around it. I dated a pot head for two years, she was a good person, but that's ALL she cared about. Seriously, that's all I heard about. Pot this and pot that, "I wish I had some weed right now." It was boring as hell, I'd have to smoke it with her just to zone her out. Also, I work in a hospital. You'd be surprised to know the number of people who's main incentive for working there isn't helping other people, but rather, the fact that they don't pee test. Needless to say, I never saw the big deal. And I'm sure if it WERE legalized I guarantee that there wouldn't be ten posts a day on the Digg main page about it. I'm sure it would lose a lot of interest, people wouldn't care so much anymore. I'm sure there would still be the fanatics just like any thing else. But at least I wouldn't be bombarded with it every time I turn around. I can see it now....People walking around, slowly mind you, with their favorite brand of joint on their shirt just like all the dudes you see with Camel shirts and microbrew hats. OK, I think I'm done. You can go ahead and bury me now.
- knomevol, on 10/26/2007, -0/+9i've had four different orthopedic surgeons in two different cities recommend marijuana for the arthritis in my knee that occurs because of the "scarring" of the bone after my knee was shattered in an automobile accident.
take acetaminophen or ibuprofen every day and you will blow out your liver, it can only process so much of it in a lifetime. not so with mj, its effect has proven to be negligible to the liver. - raynar, on 10/25/2007, -0/+9jobs cant discriminate based on medical issues. have her get a real lawyer instead of digg-law.
- djpants428, on 10/26/2007, -0/+9Perhaps they've implemented my ideal solution: joint rolling apes. I could get them to roll the joints, I just couldn't get them not to mix feces in. Perhaps the government has the solution?
- Bajeda, on 10/26/2007, -0/+8To your concluding questions, yes and yes. And while this is an extreme situation, what justification could you provide for denying people the right to use marijuana if they feel its medicinally beneficial? Does the only alternative have to be a horrible death before you'd let someone use cannabis medicinally? That doesn't make much sense and isn't very compassionate either.
And read up on the federal medical marijuana program (or watch the Penn & Teller episode on it) as you don't seem to really understand what it was and why it demonstrates the insane hypocrisy the government is capable of. - republicker, on 10/26/2007, -0/+8Stay out of my business you nosey housewife.
- Phrag, on 10/26/2007, -0/+8Its a redundancy.
Its a redundancy. - Tokkii, on 10/26/2007, -0/+8It is true. The guy has had numerous articles written about him. There are a total of 7 people (I think still) today that the federal government just gives marijuana to.
- Phrag, on 10/26/2007, -0/+8Jenna Bush... oh wait. You meant for the medical program. Nevermind.
- pikpikcarrotmon, on 10/26/2007, -0/+8It's that fleshy thing in the middle of a marijuana limb.
- lolobean, on 10/26/2007, -0/+8there are only 25 days in a month now? hm.
- RedHerringHack, on 10/26/2007, -2/+9Tolerance goes away, at least it does for me when I eat or sleep. It is not like smoking cigarettes.
- eviltandem, on 10/26/2007, -0/+7I'm just trying to decide what gave you the right to tell me what drugs I can imbibe, what doctors opinions I am and am not allowed to listen to, and why you should get to control whether I live or die and when. What is wrong with this country that I have to go asking 3rd non-medical parties about what drugs I am and am not allowed to take, all to uphold some ridiculous Neo-Conservative dogma.
The "war on drugs" was retarded when Nixon started it. It's retarded today, and you are my example.
How about you worry about your life and I'll worry about mine, ok?
Liberal judges over stepping their bounds? How about power hungry Nixon over stepping his bounds by starting the most retarded "war" this country has ever seen. Bush is trying with his war on terror to match it, granted, but he still hasn't spent enough money on his war yet... -
