Either Google is very fast, or this story is a load of *****.
pics or it didn't happen - Secret7000, on 04/08/2008, -6/+37Don't be evil, Google.
- godzillaWax, on 04/08/2008, -8/+35How long before people stop bitching about the new algorithm?
- justinx0r, on 04/08/2008, -2/+22The Olympic torch protest stories are all over the US Google News and have been since they started.
- wdtrap, on 04/08/2008, -2/+17There's a story on the front page of Google News right now. Buried.
- poidh, on 04/08/2008, -4/+17Etc.
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+14Perhaps the story was categorized as sports initially rather than front page news. This stuff is automated you know.
- lorductape, on 04/08/2008, -4/+15sigh... as much as I'd like to believe that big bad google is doing this, as soon as I saw the headline I zipped over to google news, and the second story is: IOC mulls cancellation of torch relay
so yeah... not entirely true... - XeXers, on 04/08/2008, -1/+10I see a story about the incident on my google news page... this article is BS
- aceslick911, on 04/08/2008, -1/+9every village has one..
- Devrdander, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:HeunTd5f94kJ: ...
Google cache from 4/6 of news.google.co.uk show that was was on the front page. - netant, on 04/08/2008, -0/+7I'd say that's pretty damn good of Google to bring up that story 12 years before the company was born. Google must have opened a space-time continuum tunnel and beamed the text into netnews; after all, the commercial internet didn't exist at that point, nor did html web browsers.
You probably mean the Columbia disaster. - inactive, on 04/08/2008, -13/+18how long before people stop bitching about people bitching about the new algorithm?
- SSUK, on 04/08/2008, -0/+4The Guardian is a damn sight better than The Daily Mail...
- sputty, on 04/08/2008, -0/+4I was on google yesterday in the UK and it took me a second to find it, it wasn't in the UK section because it was filed under sport... slow news day on digg?
- DooM, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3But seriously - couldn't we implement a 'one per village' policy..?
- Devrdander, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3First topic under Sports on google.co.uk news is about the Torch...
- MaskedSlacker, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3It is not "not entirely true"
It is outright fabrication. BIG difference. - Premonition, on 04/08/2008, -3/+6Who cares? This is pretty important news if you ask me.
- thewrenchpilot, on 04/08/2008, -0/+3@theAlice
I like how you censored your bookmarks, but not your email address. lol.
http://i31.tinypic.com/nbdm6p.jpg - maidenforce, on 04/08/2008, -2/+5Buried, the Author wrote the update nearly fast as the article was published. Not front page news. Retarded news.
- alexforcefive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+4Firstly, *****
Secondly, it's not even the guardian. It's the guardian blogs section. - o6uoq, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2You sir, are a douche bag. It's about Tibet, man, not about the Torch - the torch is merely the beef jerky to a dog's attention.
- dkoon, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2It's not evil if Google does it.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2That moniker ended when Google began giving our information to companies and working in tandem with the CIA to "track and trace" information that may be deemed "national security threats" using AI super computers that compile specific keywords, i.e. - jihad, terror, i hate bush, kill bush, death to bush, kill that son of a bitch....
again...those are just...examples... heh heh.. - Myonosken, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2Nothing quite so dramatic? A dude tried to kick the ***** out of Konnie Huq and someone used a fire extinguisher. In France the Parliament hung banners against China and wet mental.
In San Francisco, so far, a big sign has been hung. - akula89, on 04/08/2008, -2/+4I see 3 articles on the Tibet situation, buried.
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -15/+17No, but the person who posted this article is a nutjob
- Aitese, on 04/08/2008, -2/+4What's a zomment?
- papastout, on 04/08/2008, -0/+2Looks like they are taking a cue from the book of "How to not be evil"
- nahsrocketeer75, on 04/08/2008, -1/+3This sort of thing has been happening with Google News forever. Here's another example from when the Rev. Jerry Falwell left this mortal coil.
http://65.214.57.165/community/node/15171 - thailand1972, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1NEW?
- ciaran036, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1Good point. It's the same sort of situation where you hear people complaining about Islam and how crap it is yet their own religious organisation like Christianity isn't better or much better by many means.
- Nougat, on 04/08/2008, -6/+7Your picture is news.google.com, not news.google.co.uk.
- morningmatters, on 04/08/2008, -1/+2The free-tibet movement is getting a lot more coverage than it deserves considering the magnitude of other crisis out there. On the other hand, I don't think any major media picked up on pro-China protests in Canadian cities and London. At the end of the day, China will crack down on Tibetans harder while the protesters sit nicely at home. Even with hundreds of thousands of people protesting against the Iraq war it's not like the US changed its foreign policy course. The chances of changing China's internal politics with this type of protests are even less.
- lnxfi, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1Oops. It's like a comment, only zombified!
- Philtheman, on 04/08/2008, -2/+3“You should view the world as a conspiracy run by a very closely-knit group of nearly omnipotent people, and you should think of those people as yourself and your friends.”
-Robert Anton Wilson - inactive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+3Protests in London were a few days ago.
Protests in San Francisco were yesterday.
News in United States = website for people in the United States
News in Britain = website for people in Britain.
But regardless, the London protests are already OLD NEWS. Why would they show up on the frontpage of a website which is supposed to have CURRENT NEWS? - imitationflavor, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1And the only reason they'd not be on the UK news is because you'd have to hear how the Brits failed to disrupt the event the way the French did. Amirite?
- lucutus, on 04/08/2008, -2/+3Nonsense. The second headline in "world news" is on the topic.
- wageslaven, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1The Guardian is one of the most respected news agencies on the planet. You may not like what they are reporting, but be mindful of you who's credibility you're questioning.
- inactive, on 04/08/2008, -2/+3Another pack of lies from the guardian.
- Myonosken, on 04/08/2008, -2/+3First, Guardian have a massive income from the web. They aren't threatened.
Second, Guardian is far better than most of the piss poor rags in the US
Third, bite me - ronjohn, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1Why am I getting dug down. Haters!!! aww your mad you didn't jump on the google IPO HAHA!!!
- AirlessToaster, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1nice email address btw
- wageslaven, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1Theocracy in Tibet is a bad idea.
China treats all its people poorly, saying "Free Tibet" means you want to restore the Dali Lama Theocracy. That's bad. The Tibetan Theocracy has its _OWN_ record of brutality against the people of Tibet. - A2007HokieAlumn, on 04/08/2008, -0/+1http://digg.com/world_news/Proof_that_Google_News_ ...
- wageslaven, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1Right, because The Guardian is going to put its journalistic reputation on the line to "bait digg".
Get real. - wageslaven, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1I would humbly suggest that the USA has no moral ground to stand on w/r/t China.
Perhaps you've missed the invasion and occupation of Iraq & Afghanistan? - ShrimpCrackers, on 04/08/2008, -1/+2Uh huh. Of all the news sources that Google pipes in on their news page, among the top is Xinhua, China's state owned paper that is famous for lies about everything.
Google has gone to the dark side ages ago. -
