- thegsa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20exactly, you cant fight a war with borrowed money.
what people havent been noticing is that the value of the dollar has been decreasing steadily, and nobody's doing a thing. - argoff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18The ugly truth is that the "war on terror" can not be an expense based war like we have made it. During the cold war with the old Soviet Union, all we had to do was out spend them and force them into bankruptcy. This time that is happening to us, but without being out spent. IMHO the biggest mistake here was pumping up the credit system to pay for this war. The war on terror promises to be a prolonged and extracted war, and you can't fight those kind of wars on credit, or on a fiat monetary system - they need to be fought with sound money and a long-term healthy economy.
During the 1850's the US was loosing their war with the "Indians", but then that got blown to hell by the civil war, and then after that the US finally had the skills to contain the "Indian" violence. In a way I think something similar is going to happen here. The war on terror will probably need to be put on hold a few years while we press the reset button on the US economy and patch up whatever other disasters are going to happen. I hope people understand that the US dollar likely won't survive the next decade as a currency. - JamesK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Republican school districts:
Bush was showered with chocolate and flowers when he personally flew into Iraq to behead the evil terrorist Sadist Hussein. "Mission Accomplished" in 12 days; Democracy and Christianity was brought to that godforsaken country. Amen.
Reality based school districts:
He was a moron and ***** a lot of ***** up. Your parents are still paying for it. And so will you when you start paying taxes. - Chiphort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I can't wait to read what is going to be in the History Text Books about President George W. Bush in like 2029
- Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"what people havent been noticing is that the value of the dollar has been decreasing steadily"
I have. If you're buying stuff from the States, it's totally awesome. For example, the exchange rate used to be 1.4 to the pound and now it's 1.8/9 to the pound, making buying things in dollars a total bargain. It's like you guys have all been given a massive national paycut, in effect, which does rather suck if you're on the wrong end of it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+15Sweet! More ***** propaganda cheated to the front page by aaaz! Digg rocks!
- w0rd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm guessing (and hoping) that you are a liberal who is trying to discredit neo-conservative republicans. They don't need any help and I don't need to read this kind of *****. Take a hike jackhole.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Back to the story, do you believe Bush stays the course based on his own feeling, or based on the people surrounding him?
WOuld things change much with a shake up of his cabinate?
WHat is iraq worth in lives? and money(especially since we havent gotten the bill yet)
If we cut and run, peopel say this will embolden he terrorists.. does that mean they will be embolden to attack us more? or just better recruiting? If they are embolden to attack us more, how many people do you think will die per year vs the war right now?
DO you think we can slowly weed out just the foriegn terrorists?
DO you think the wp columnist made up his name? - quakerorts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And who would decide what's "on topic" and what's not? Not feasible or desirable, in my opinion.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6you do know you can block aaaz?
what aaaz is doing while may be against the spirit of digg, isnt against the rules. Not trying to justify him but if there is a way to bend" the rules, people will. It really doesnt bother me all that much as if the masses didnt like his articles o if they were duped, then they can be burried as such, but since it bothers you i suggest you block him. - reda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what about the people, the Iraquis living in fe ar and terror there ?
no body cares about them ? - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Matt... Daemon...
- H2SO4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Our dollar is based on oil - after the elections OIL MUST GO UP in price to make the US dollar "worth" more.
- bobzibub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sure you can fight a war through borrowing! Look at the UK during WWII. They just finished paying it off, if I recall.

- TopherT, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3You'll likely find that a signifigant minority of Digg users actually ARE libertarian in general outlook.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4What i would like to see changed one day on did is two comment sections.. one on topic the other not.(i would love this)
There is not one comment in this section that is useful or even discusses the story.
If you want i can make a lame blog about aaaz and we can discuss the pros and cons of diggs model and what we can do to make it more enjoyable and why sometimes we will just have to deal with some problems to enjoy some features. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Techie -- just post them in this thread, I'd like to read them. The Libertarians are trying, successfully, to use Digg as a billboard too via their own mailing list.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Interesting, thanks. You've probably already seen it (it's old) but my expose on the Libertarians is at
http://bigdavediode.googlepages.com/diggfixexposed
I haven't added some of the newer comments that I got including death threats and "eat ***** and die" which seems to be a popular line among Libertarians. - Warrzie, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3BLAME BU$$$$$$$$H

- uberneoconcert, on 10/12/2007, -17/+0bush is staying the course because our enemies are. it's a simple yes or no question he's answering them negatively, which is "will you let us end you?" it's nice that diggers and ***** get to overanalyze it w/out the responsibility of making decisions besides consumerist ones.

What is Digg?
