- libertyfriend, on 11/28/2007, -0/+14The Ron Paul blimp website says there have been $383,500 pledged as of 11:18 pm 11/27/07. This far exceeds their $350,000 goal for the flight.
- libertyfriend, on 11/28/2007, -0/+13There have been some Paul supporters who are skeptical of this idea, (I admit that I wondered if it was the best use of money) citing that it might be better to contribute directly to the campaign, but if it is in fact legitimate, and it appears it is, I think its a great idea for the following reason:
Amazing publicity— this will buy more mainstream media exposure, help feed the Ron Paul campaign donations buzz on December 16th, will probably be seen at the Super Bowl and hopefully on Super Bowl TV coverage. It will also show the strength and entrepreneurial spirit of Ron Paul supporters and their ability to put their freedom message in action!
It also proves again that Ron Paul supporters, regardless of the pathetic media smears and spin, have the most fun! - marksmayo, on 11/29/2007, -0/+8Anybody else thinking what I'm thinking? TWO blimps!! :-)
- DeskFlyer, on 11/29/2007, -0/+7Info on the airship to be used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyship_600
I think the MetLife airship is the same kind. - DeskFlyer, on 11/29/2007, -0/+6Lead by example.
- brad3378, on 11/28/2007, -0/+6Unfortunately, the 2008 Superbowl will be held in a covered field: http://www.azsuperbowl.com/new_stadium.aspx
But on the bright side (pun intended) There should be a time zone advantage by staying in the sunlight longer during the game. - JamesMadison, on 11/28/2007, -1/+7That's tremendous news!
Pledge today: http://teaparty07.com/ - libertyfriend, on 11/28/2007, -1/+6Well it does have a retractable roof, I've been to sporting events at these kinds of venues. They always open the roof at some point. There's usually blimps floating around the Super Bowl. But if not there than somewhere else.
- libertyfriend, on 11/28/2007, -2/+6The Ron Paul campaign would likely use the money it receives to buy TV and radio ads for more media exposure in specific states. So why not take the media exposure into our own hands and buy a blimp? I can't think of a better way to get the word out to more people. This should only help increase the Paul donations by a much larger amount the $350,000 spent on the blimp.
- detree, on 11/29/2007, -2/+6ncurses, you have been reported
- marksmayo, on 11/29/2007, -1/+5While we're on the Ron Paul matter, can someone explain why I've recently had several articles that garner like 20-40 diggs in the first couple of hours (so they can't be all bad), and then get buried? Is there some "bury brigade" in the elections section, or am I starting conspiracy theories too early in the election race? ;)
- Spamcan, on 11/29/2007, -1/+5The blimp mock up is awesome, they should really fly it that low and throw copies of the Constitution out the window.
- libertyfriend, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3No the actual stadium location is worth considering and looking at, you brought up an interesting point. From the picture it does look as though the blimp would have to be directly above the stadium for it to be seen by anyone inside. But I think at the very least it would still fly around the stadium and be shown on the TV coverage at some point. Its just a Super Bowl tradition for things like that to happen, Goodyear blimp, etc. I think it will all work out.
- brad3378, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3I feel like a fool for admitting it after being inside it, but I honestly didn't know about the retractable roof. The blimp just might get some Superbowl coverage after all.
I deserve to be buried for assuming too much
:( - inactive, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3ron paul speaks the truth, of course "they" bury him
- marksmayo, on 11/29/2007, -1/+4For example - http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Ron_Paul_Really_ ... (sorry to plug, but it's buried now so doesn't really matter). It received 31 diggs in 2 hours, then vanishes from page 1 of the elections category.
- KMye, on 11/29/2007, -0/+2I was under the impression that under campaign finance law, PACs can't be constructed to specifically support a candidate. I could be totally wrong here; maybe the restriction is only on broadcast media ads?

- stalefries, on 11/29/2007, -1/+2I can think of a better use for money: bribe the media! :D
/alternatively, give it to me :) - marksmayo, on 11/29/2007, -2/+3seconded. If you look at his commenting history, he's virtually never constructive. Shame, really - for a person with that much spare time, if they put it to better use....

- Strongo, on 11/29/2007, -1/+2what a great idea.
- KMye, on 11/29/2007, -0/+1okay, did a little research, maybe this just applies to 527s...
- libertyfriend, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Visit Ron Paul Blimp.com for a full schedule of the blimp's flight.
- Misesean, on 11/29/2007, -1/+2I don't think you "get" that The Jungle is a _novel_ - a work of fiction, bearing about as much resemblance to the reality as Kipling's stories of talking animals.
- KMye, on 11/29/2007, -3/+3I really, really hope this doesn't violate any campaign finance laws and those pledges are actually real and Ron Paul gets the blimp. Then, after each primary goes as expected, I can post this:
