- Feanor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+49Who relates Heinz to mustard? I have friends who wouldn't even know they made anything other than ketchup.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33We should all consider the plight of the pore people - those large pores, causing acne, oily skin, and other embarassments. If only the pore people had more money so they could see dermatologists.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+40Seriously. The top three RICHEST members of congress are all Democrats, and these are the folks that sympathize with the "working man"? Champion the underpriviledged (read: underacheivers)? Those that want to play Socialist Robin Hood by stealing from the rich and giving to the poor?
Wake up Liberals, the Democrats are all in the pockets of big business worse than the Republicans. How much you want to bet they hardly pay ***** for taxes by using their influence and off-shore tax shelters?
I'd be interested to see how much these people donate in charity as well. - mrn111, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28On the flip side, 8 of the 10 poorest members are dems too.
- Y0tsuya, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26Shouldn't his name be John Heinz instead?
- Greyhaven7, on 10/12/2007, -25/+44And the liberals really believe these people are in their court? HA!
- MyHappyClam, on 10/12/2007, -18/+36Figure the odds that they will tax themselves. They have already figured a way to save their money while stealing everyone else's (to give to the poor).
- nusteve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19@MyHappyClaim
Not only do they not tax themselves, but who do you think decides their salary? - slickriven, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Gotta wonder if Democrats weren't the TOP 3, 4 of top 5, and 6 of top 10 if the comments wouldn't be more about "Rich Oil Republicans" ... Then again they're both equally over paid and generally under perform... It'll be interesting to see what the Dems do with the House and possibly the Senate majority.

- Flame10885, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17@jimmygoon why didn't you just put "≠" ?

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Yeah because Kohl didn't work hard opening chains of stores that rival Wal-Mart in certain regions of the US. It must have all fell on him like the house fell on the Wicked Witch of the East in the Wizard of Oz. Lucky guy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14I think Rockefeller's net worth is way more than 101 million.
I worked on building a hanger at an airport in WV back in the early 80s and he flew in one day in his private lear jet.
Left it unlocked and unguarded.
He had a Ms Packman game in it.
And a very well stocked bar. - xSTALLiONx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Why does he suck? Because he's #1? The guy didn't inherit his money. He worked along with his family building an empire of Grocery stores and department stores in the midwest, specifically wisconsin. In addition, he does not bring home PORK and if he feels the state does need something, he pitches in using HIS money and HIS connections for fund raising. (ie. UW-Madison needs a new basketball arena.. They get the Kohl Center (Voted Top 3 ESPN college arena).. which was 75% funded by H.Kohl and 25% by private donations..
Geee.. What a rich a-hole..
Doesn't anyone get sick of constant jealousy expressed by a minor segment of digg addicts.. - duus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13This is really pathetic. You know what I heard? I heard that Michael Moore was fat. I don't have a link, though.
- morem7, on 10/12/2007, -22/+32and another Myth is busted yet again----Notice top 4 of 5 are Dems????
No real difference though IMO-they ALL suck... - dicerandom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13@skyshock:
Lies, damn lies, and statistics. The top three richest are all dems, yes, and four of the top five are dems. The obvious conclusion is that dems are much richer than republicans!
Well, no, not quite. Sixteen of the top 25 are Republicans. If you want to emphasize that one group is richer than another all you need to do is pick a number you're going to stop counting at which supports your argument. - Snoopy7176, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Two chicks at the same time!!
- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Correction, he used to own them. He has not been involved with them since the 1970s.
- nosebleed, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15We can never say anything bad about democrats... ever. They can do no wrong. You're only allowed to say bad things about republicans. Just look at all those bad things Media Matters says about them! Thanks for clearing me up on how things work around here, guys!
- twalker294, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I am sick and tired of the "rich is evil" mentality that the hippie libs have spread in this country. These people have been successful in private life, not getting rich just because they are politicians. Sure there are under the table deals everywhere in politics but somebody doesn't amass $200 million plus just from living off Congressional pork. These are successful people who (for the most part,) have made their own fortunes so get off your moral high horse and have a little respect for success rather than disdain for those who have more than you.
Go ahead, digg my ass down. While you are clicking that red thumb, know that you are doing so out of jealousy for the "haves" in society. - bacon_skoda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8when you feel underpaid and have power, then corrupt.
over here in Arizona, a legislature gets $24,000 a year.
that's lower than almost any job outthere. with a degree.
would anyone here quit their job to run for office for $24,000
and get ripped to shreds by people?
Thus, most that run are rich folks.
or if not, they can accept bribes.
think of the opportunity cost here.
if they weren't a politician, what could they be doing? consulting?
lawyer? those pay much much higher.
most politicians basically take a pay cut to be a politician.
But they get rewarded with power and the posibility of running for president/governor.
And they become targets for assassination/kidnapping
on themselves and their family. - jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Yeah, they all got rich off welfare (you idiot).
- senseigmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It seems that a lot of diggers feel that anybody who has money has not worked for it/doesn't deserve it/is evil... You live in America, in a capitalist nation. The American dream is to make it big.
"***** those rich politicians. I graduated from high school and make 25K a year, I'm obviously more in touch with the public than anybody who has tried to make a name for himself."
-Whiny Digger - SquirrelOnFire, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Cause being in debt is a GREAT sign that I want these people to lead my country?
You DO know that's what the ($$$$$) means, right?
What's that old saying about learn how to take care of your own household first before trying to run some others?
/not a republican, btw - geekee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"I'd be interested to see how much these people donate in charity as well."
Their tax records are publicly available. - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Did you happen to catch the high scores on that Ms Pacman?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Name Minimum Net Worth Maximum Net worth
1Herb Kohl (D-Wis) $219,098,029 $234,549,004
2Jane Harman (D-Calif) $168,651,649 $289,045,000
3John Kerry (D-Mass) $165,741,511 $235,262,100
4Darrell Issa (R-Calif) $135,862,098 $677,230,000 --- ???
How is he #4 when his max net worth is roughly 3x that of the #1 guy?? - ChuyMatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6No, just don't be misrepresenting things.
I wanted the Dems to win. Had the Dems been in power, I would have wanted them to lose.
I hope they take this victory and right some things, not be vindictive and petty. I would like it if our government worked for us. - jlachowin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Herb Kohl owns Kohls department and grocery stores.
- phatt-matt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I thought he invented the stuff used in power plants...
- borchard76, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9This is why the FairTax Plan is smart--it doesn't tax income at all--just consumption above the poverty level. Thus those that are incredibly rich but retired are still contributing to the system. This would eliminate so many problems that I can't even begin to imagine why everyone doesn't want this. It is (I'll admit) far form perfect, but so much better than our current system that it is stupendously stupid to not want to change that I'm dumbfounded by those that oppose it.
Please tell me that it wouldn't be great to be able to tax those that are spending the most (thus having the most money or credit) more than those that are barely making it. I argue that wealth is more about what a person spends on average than what one earns in payroll. - fyngyrz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Frankly, I would rather have a rich person in congress than a poor or middle class one. It is a lot more difficult to bribe someone who has a couple hundred million backs in the vault. I think it'd serve to put at least somewhat of a cork in the corporate interests ability to manipulate the law, which is considerable at present.
Where's all the hate for rich people coming from anyway, if not from simple jealousy? I'm not rich, and they don't bother me any. Why do they bother you people so much? - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7No, they're the party FOR the rich.
- kevinlw1974, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I know a state rep here in Tennessee. people in politics make a killing. Beyond their 'base pay' they have Home Office, travel, and other allowances that are not taxed. Why desn't the news bust them on this? I know a lot of people bash Fox, and rightly so, but the others don't truly go after the truth and report just the facts.
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Half a million PS3s?
- ganzhimself, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Herb Kohl donated $25 million to the University of Wisconsin to build the Kohl Center... He's a good man to have as a senator, he's been great to Wisconsin over the years.
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I think I speak for most Americans when I say it's better to spend money on Chinese creditors and rich Texas defense contractors. That way our children can learn about marketing and sales as they try to pimp food, car washes and everything else in order to have books in the classroom.
- ChuyMatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5erm... Does congress not denote both the house and senate? Such as the phrase "_Both houses of congress_ are filled with bald faced liars"?
- sixspeed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Uh, you're from Tennessee - am I right? Just wondering.
- Y0tsuya, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Many middle-class and upper-middle-class Americans happily tax themselves through referendums, oblivious to what the truely rich are doing to dodge taxes. In fact, the truely rich are downright scrooges compared to your average American.
- MBro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Herb Kohl finances his own elections and has been very good to the middle class americans. He's a very loved senator from wisconsin.
- sixspeed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"..It is his Wife's who got it from her late husband, who was a Republican."
Oh MAN! And now Kerry is spending HIS money AND boning HIS wife. Doesn't that make you want to jump off a bridge? Please tell me that makes you want to jump off a bridge. - iancgi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4its called off-shore bank accounts people. The richest people in the world don't flaunt it and they like it that way.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4he married into ketchup
- johnlancia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's just his net worth, the family is structured like a corporation. Jets, houses, company's are owned and used by them all through the Dupont corporation and other privately held corporations. Very complicated and hard to tax or track down.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8"Two chicks at the same time!!"
*****' A - spadin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The $100 in my bank account doesn't look that bad when compared to Alcee Hastings (D-FL). She's between $2.1 and $7.3 Million dollars in the hole.
