Should be filed under political opinion
Since when is Joe in D.C. a credible news outlet? - z23rdhsuan, on 10/12/2007, -24/+53are you asking if we should believe push polls are illegal or that republicans are doing it?
both are pretty well documented.
so well documented lately you should digg this down as duplicate instead of inaccurate.
but then what should i expect from a reply written by "spamster00" - jjb123, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23Stop posting your options as political news.
- Hickeroar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20I followed all the "source links" on that blog...and every source of any information they had...you guessed it...all came from blogs...
Lets see some hard, unbiased proof please....? - Lisztman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18So, let me get this straight. In the article you have, quite literally, the following:
Republican: What we're doing isn't illegal
Democrat: Yes it is.
NO references to any actual laws or legislation, statements by public officials, or anything of the sort. Just a "we're not doing anything wrong," "Nuh-uh! you are!"
Does anyone really expect us to pay any attention to this cheap game of rhetorical badminton?
Buried due to extreme lame. - flernk, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20@klaymen
Like "democracy" or "legal" or instance? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/images/NRCC.mp3
here is someones answering machine so you can see how harrassing they are. - Hickeroar, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20did you happen to read all the "articles" it linked to? They were ALL blogs...
Give me a freaking break. - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The article doesn't even use the term "push poll", and I heard about this story before but didn't know the practice was called a "push poll" This submission could have seriously used a better write up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Push_poll - HoboMaster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10After listening to the recording of these messages, I call BS on this article. It's immediately obvious that these aren't from dems. You can tell it's against the candidate it mentions within 5 or so seconds. Are they claiming that people hang up before then? I can't imagine hanging up on a phone call that quickly. Yeah, the messages would be annoying, but they're hardly being used to make people think the democrat candidates are calling them.
- elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -13/+19From this POS article:
NRCC spokesman Ed Patru denied any illegal intent.
"All of our political calls are in compliance with the law," Patru said.
Not so, said the Democrats.
"They are violating the regulations that were set up," said Jen Psaki, a spokeswoman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, who said the DCCC employed one robocall this cycle and paid $500 for it.
So what this guy is telling us is that
1. it's illegal according to a DCCC spokesperson
2. the democrats are doing it too. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9After reading the article I'm labeling this inaccurate, the article doesn't mention push polls at all, they are talking about robo-calling people and saying its a message from the opponent then talking trash.
That's not a push poll, doesn't sound like a polling tactic at all. Since pollsters have to actually ask questions and not just have a pre-recorded autodialed message that is sent to thousands of people. - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10"do you want to believe that democrats so fricken stupid that they'd change their vote to republican because they are annoyed by telemarketers"
Who said that democrats were being called? There are people in America that vote that are neither Republicans or Democrats. - vbbx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Hey Joe, I know you are really pumped over your new computer, but posting your opinion doesn't make it news -- nor true either.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"The Republicans Admit They are Breaking the Law..."
NRCC spokesman Ed Patru denied any illegal intent.
"All of our political calls are in compliance with the law," Patru said.
It doesn't look like the GOP is admitting to any wrongdoing.
Marked as LAME. Maybe the sheep that post this stuff can do a bit better. - nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8and buried due to the fact this this is the same extreme lame story for the THIRD time today! I'm pretty sure when you post a story on Digg it says "hmm, this is similar to stories that have already been posted, are any of these the same:" . . . thanks for lying dickholes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8A republican judge in ND has ruled teh calls their illegal... but i guess he will be called a moonbat by the people in here.
- jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is just plain wrong. Next thing you know, they will be sending spam to peoples inboxs and going to peoples schools to talk to parents children, so they go home and tell them all about how they should vote republican
amazingly enough, there will still be people who think thats fine or claim that democrats do it too (ya, right) - Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It's amazing that people can be well-meaning -- I'm taking you on your words -- and not get the point of this. I've been "robocalled" so far by a recording of Bill Clinton, Howard Dean, and a bunch of other Democratic messages -- I'm a registered Democrat -- and the robocaller identifies itself and gives its message in the prescribed hours. I'm sure Independents and Republicans also get these calls, and they're legal.
What is being described, largely, is scam. The hours that these Republican-sponsored calls come are very early in the morning and late at night, not in the legal hours. They identify themselves as Democrats, and they call back multiple times until you listen to the whole message. What you receive is not endorsed by the Democrat. It is straight electoral fraud. Would it do anything to me other than make me mad? No, although I might report it to the DNC and/or the FEC. (They know they're going to be fined for this, but only after the elections.) But depending on the state, there are lots of Independents whose vote, right now, is leanign 2 to 1 Democratic. This might lower that by a few percent, sure. Just as if you went to the polling place and the wait was an hour, a certain number of people would turn away and not bother to come back.
When you add in the numerous other dirty tricks -- it adds up to a very nasty political culture among Republicans. I know, I know, now you're going to tell me about the old urban Democratic machines that were evil too. But they're pretty much gone, those old urban machines. This is the Mayor Daley, the Boss Tweed, that we have now. - flernk, on 10/12/2007, -19/+22And paintist has absolutely no understanding of the current state of American politics or the history of the American republic. Congratulations.
- Koosebane, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Hmmm.
Lame.
Inaccurate.
Wrong topic.
Decisions.....decisions....... - zSlider, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You aren't the only one.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+15@awm4:
regardless of someone's credibility, it is still not an opinion. it seems these days people are starting to forget the meaning of certain words. - mintin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5N.H. makes GOP stop some automated calls
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/automated_calls_complaint
"According to the Federal Communications Commission Web site, automated calls must state the identity of the business, individual, or other entity making the call at the beginning of the message. Burgos said the messages comply with all federal laws, but declined to comment specifically on the placement of the sponsor message."
These automated phones calls, which are paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee, do not state the identity of the business, individual, or other entity making the call at the beginning of the message. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+15@paintist:
the point isn't a telemarketer or robocalling or even the fact that some people may think it is from dems, the point is out right harassment if you hang up.
if your phone got blown up so much that it was nearly unusable you'd be pissed as well and if you were a person that didnt care very much about the vote but were planning to vote anyway, that may be enough to turn you off from voting.
you can argue they shouldnt vote anyway but IT IS THEIR RIGHT TO VOTE, even if uninformed or if they just want to vote for kermit the frog. - FyberOptic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Personal blog or not, the push polls and insessant calls are happening, and they're coming from the republicans. I should know, because I've been receiving them myself. The push polls are definately republican, because they are in fact backing the republican candidate in the call under the pretense that it's an unbiased poll.
So people can try to say it's "liberal whining claptrap" as some of the less educated responses here so far have implied, but you're only fooling yourselves if you think the republican party isn't behaving as crooked as a dog's hind leg. Especially in this election, which threatens their grip on power. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Just a highlight of some of the finer points of this eloquently-worded, high quality piece of journalism:
"The Republicans admit they are breaking to law to stop people from voting"
- Are breaking "to law?"
"The messages start like they are going are from the Democratic candidate"
- Start like they are going are from? What?
"The Democratic callers are so ticked off at the Democrat harassing them that they don't vote, or vote for the Republican"
- The Democratic callers? That should be callees.
When your article has this many errors and is that hard to read, it loses quite a bit of credibility. - oxyrubber, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10"So you expect us to believe some random biased blog's article written by "Joe in DC"?"
I don't expect you to believe "Joe in DC" and the evidence on his blog. Search Digg overnight - at least 5 articles on robocalling (and some of them mention breaking FCC rules for robocalling; some also mention one party mudslinging or posing as the other party).

For my money, robocalling is spam and I'm gonna raise hell if I get a call on my cell. - misterpony, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Seriously, how did this stay on the frontpage for so long? This is absurd.
- jimbecile, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2it's about pushing down turnout in close NY/CT races where Bush & the GOP are very, very unpopular, but local Republicans aren't as hated.
- pardonmedoug, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Large scale voter fraud should be considered treason and people convicted of it should face a firing squad.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9@dirtmaster:
i have noticed that both sides use name calling but have you noticed to the degree and immaturity the NEOs do it.
They tend to attack people without being attacked first and come out with cute names like libtards.
I really wish people would just grow up.
Seriously i could care less if you attack policies or even call politicians names, but please try to be a bit civil. You really could bring more people to your side if you used intelligence rather than belligerence. - Koosebane, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Digg me up if you think hating anyone because of the political club they belong to is backward and dim!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3You can send your own robocalls here

12cents a minute for successful calls.
If you get a robo call i sugest you send them one back. - dBass, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"spamster00", just wanted to say I really enjoyed burying your dumb ass comment some more.
- Democritus2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Actually regardless of whether this is true or not, I noticed something today on MSNBC.
A female newsperson was interviewing some Democratic spokesperson. First she said "Tenn is a must win for the Democrats". Which is rather false, everything I have read says Tenn would be nice, but the Democrats have pretty much wrote it off.
Then she stated that the Republican in Tenn. had a 10 point margin. One poll out of five said that- the average is 5 point margin.
*source* http://www.electoral-vote.org
Which is a compilation of all polls.
So she is either stupid or slanting the polls and news. If she is slanting, you have to ask why. - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Horray for digg trolls. Modding down credible information.

from Blackthorne's comment, above - grinin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0funny how we got dugg down for political views :D
- GabrielS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2What do Republicans have to gain in Connecticut and New York? These are the states that are apparently targeted by these robo calls.
Are there Republicans running for federal seats here that are in doubt or not already controlled by oft challenged Democrats? - actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+10"So you expect us to believe some random biased blog's article written by "Joe in DC"?"
So you expect to believe the politicians instead? - Flyingv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Lets look at what at what some liberals are doing with regard to the election:
So, less than a week before the midterm elections, four workers from Acorn, the liberal activist group that has registered millions of voters, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for submitting false voter registration forms to the Kansas City, Missouri, election board.

I wonder how many dead Democratic voters will be visiting the polls this year?
Seems to me the Dems are trying to cover their ass if they lose. My God, it couldn't be that the GOP has an energized base that actually goes out and votes instead of just talking about it, it has to be a conspiricy! Diebold! Halliburton! Bush! Rove! Christians!Get a ***** grip. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Wrong, its the fourth version of this stupid *****.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2is it just me or is the title of this article kind of hilarously biased
offtopic: there have definitely been outrages on both sides, i was listening to a morning show and laughing so hard at what they called the "hitlist" of negative campaign ads, unbelievable. if anyone has a link to youtube of some of these i would appreciate it - MrBlackthorne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes there are. Three races that are very close, as a matter of fact.
- mharvey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@tsteele: So I'm trying to decide who to vote for and maybe this will help. The Democrats have ACORN registering dead people, homeless people and 16 year-olds to vote.
Dead people and 16 year-olds I can understand, but since when are the homeless being denied the right to vote? And plus, the article you link to doesn't mention the homeless at all... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2If the whole "pushpolling" bruhaha is not clutching for straws, I do not know what is.
You know, you guys should either respect democracy or change yor name to something like Demagogic Party, because that reflects the party spirit much better these days. - MacsBaine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Buried as wrong topic. This should have been Political Opinion at best.
- GiggleStick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah, I know, but Beavis & Butthead used to always sing it when they were excited while pumping their arms. I was really just making fun of the title of the digg since they put "Breaking to law" in it, when it should have been breaking *the* law. Bad grammar makes me laugh.
