The REAL Eliot Spitzer Story No One Is Talking About
gregpalast.com — While Eliot Spitzer was paying an escort, Ben Bernanke was handing over $200 billion to mortgage bank industry speculators —handing windfalls to the banking predators who have brought two million families to the edge of foreclosure. There was one single, lonely politician who stood in the way of this happening: Eliot Spitzer.

- gabulldawg79, on 03/14/2008, -1/+17I have said it before and I will say it again. Palast is one of the last honest, straight shooting investigative reporters not bought off by the government or the MSM, which is also why he now works for the BBC. The Bush Administration had him blackedballed in the U.S. and no government official would interview with him for fear of Bush and or fear Palast would blow the whistle on them. Keep up the good work Mr. Palast some of us are listening.
- SoyJames, on 03/14/2008, -2/+19Summary: 1. Bush deregulated the mortage industry to allow predatory lending. 2. Spitzer says no way jack, I'm gonna sue them. 3. Bush says ***** you back, federally overrides State's consumer protection laws. 3. Countrywide and Citibank go wild, make loans they know won't be repaid. 4. Wallstreet repackages these junk loans into bonds, sells them off to unsuspecting investors. 5. Mortage industry collapses, families lose their homes, bond buyers lose their investments. 6. Spitzer is silenced in part because of the Patriot Act, his bank spying on him, illegal wiretaps. 7. Feds bail out mortgage lenders, Wallstreets celebrates.
- JoJoMoMo, on 03/16/2008, -0/+118. Tax payer gets screwed.
- stubotnyc, on 03/16/2008, -0/+8you forgot the most interesting part of the story- the feds give 1/5th a TRILLION dollars to these scumbag banks to "bail" them out.

Just for asking you about his book..;) - citizenBNW, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3Summary : 1.5) The fed pursues a monetary policy, shall we call it 'loose', that provides the real fuel for this fire.
- yellowcakewalk, on 03/21/2008, -2/+8Spitzer was the first political assassination facilitated by Bush's illegal wiretaps, that we know of. His political assaissination is intended to serve as an example against anyone who interferes with the workings of the kleptocracy that is busy pillaging our country and the world.

"The focus on Mr. Spitzer was so intense that the F.B.I. used surveillance teams to follow both him and the prostitute in Washington in February. The surveillance teams had followed him at least once before — when he visited the city in January but did not engage a prostitute, officials said, confirming a report in The Washington Post. Stakeouts and surveillance are labor-intensive and often involve teams of a dozen or more agents and non-agent specialists." - at tax payer expense! - heironymous, on 03/22/2008, -0/+6Political assassination is right. Smelled a rat as soon as it was leaked to the media. Why Spitzer? Out of probably 500 bigwigs who used hookers in DC that week, why him?
- yellowcakewalk, on 04/09/2008, -1/+1He was the one who could take down Wall Street bigwigs, just as the Bear Stearns pillage was being saddled onto the back of the American taxpayer.

- WriterY, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2"That’s Carlyle as in Carlyle Group. James Baker, Senior Counsel. Notable partners, former and past: George Bush, the Bin Laden family and more dictators, potentates, pirates and presidents than you can count."
How interesting! We have the Bin Laden family in the loop...
Lincoln should be mighty proud of himself!
