- iuseNERFbullets, on 04/22/2009, -1/+202Well, logically, who would want to go to war? Companies that deal with war...
- andytronic, on 04/22/2009, -0/+179A lot of ***** the media does does not surprise me... this did. Sad and disturbing.
- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -3/+122Where are all the douchebags shouting "tinfoil hat"? This isn't a conspiracy either, right? It's all just circumstantial, just a coincidence, right?
It's corruption plain and simple. Democrat OR Republican the banksters make sure we're *****. The politicians, bureaucrats, CEO's and military leaders are all taking orders. They are the buffer. Any good strategist or player of chess would use the same tactic. - pathouston22, on 04/22/2009, -15/+103" ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN and Fox"
Damn conservative media, the mouthpieces for the Bush administration. - Dumbledorito, on 04/22/2009, -1/+89Listeners of PRI's "On the Media" heard about this last April (link has a transcript and audio player) in an interview with a former Green Beret and Fox News commentator who was a part of this "program":
http://www.onthemedia.org/transcripts/2008/04/25/0 ...
From his interview:
BOB GARFIELD: What kind of reception did you get from the Fox hosts when you did not parrot more or less what the Pentagon was telling you?
MAJOR ROBERT BEVELACQUA: I was called into one individual's office following my trip from Iraq to do a debriefing in which I was asked my opinion. After giving my opinion, it was basically jammed back down my throat – I didn't know what the hell I was talking about.
BOB GARFIELD: This was a Fox News host who told you, you didn't know what you were talking about?
MAJOR ROBERT BEVELACQUA: It's a pretty senior individual that has his own show. And where I really became uncomfortable was my analysis would get questioned because it didn't fit a certain party line. And that, for me - I have some serious issues with that.
And I've got to tell you, you know, I'm not a Republican. I'm not a Democrat. I'm extremely independent. I voted in one presidential election in my life because I thought I had a choice, and that was for Ross Perot.
So I don't like being jabbed on either side or labeled as conservative or liberal. I try and play it down the middle of the road. And that's where my analysis went, down the middle of the road, and it just so happened to be on the wrong side. - Nodaki, on 04/22/2009, -1/+80David Barstow...thank you for your exposure of these shills.
Gleen Greenwald on the Frontpage with only 105 Diggs. Where are the government apologists this morning? - y0y0howsdajell0, on 04/22/2009, -3/+76Too bad most people get their news from these stupid sources. INTERNET for the people!
- debunkthelies, on 04/22/2009, -4/+67MSM= corporate bullies.
- pintomp3, on 04/22/2009, -2/+64The same was done with the two journalists who investigated Sheriff Joe Arpaio. It was mentioned they won a Pulitzer, but not why.

- ProLick, on 04/22/2009, -14/+65Everybody should add NBC to FOX as TV to boycott. News by shills for xenophobic tools.
This article can be "dugg" on Reddit:

- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -0/+40And this is just one of the things we ARE starting to hear about.
tip of the iceberg. - Sean42, on 04/22/2009, -0/+39Maybe you should have actually read the comments before you posted your little tirade. First off, this has NOTHING to do with Obama. Apparantly you enjoy being spoonfed propaganda by your leaders. Way to think for yourself.
- McNerd, on 04/22/2009, -1/+37Didn't you read? Every major news network. "ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN and Fox." They may not all be as bad as Fox, but evidently they're bad enough. We don't need them.
The only silver lining here is that AP wasn't implicated. If they'd been on the list too, we'd truly be *****. - widdershins, on 04/22/2009, -0/+32Man that's f*cked up... and very scary.
- Sean42, on 04/22/2009, -7/+30I wish that the network news channels would stick to doing what they do best which is to cover natural disasters ie hurricanes and earthquakes and leave reporting of actual news to newspapers/bloggers/journalists.
Faux News is the worst.
The rest just suck. - EdGruberman8, on 04/22/2009, -0/+23No, really. In this age where the Internet is helping to redefine how information travels more openly, you'd think the media would be even more careful to cleanse itself of corruption. But instead, they seemingly do it even more. Baffling.
Just another example of why net neutrality is so important. Can you imagine if people had the legal capability to filter this story from us even here? *shudder* - jezsik, on 04/22/2009, -2/+23I'm curious to see how many people will bury you ... by people who know nothing about alazeera except what they've been TOLD to know. This news organization scares the crap out of traditional news corps because it's the channel they don't control.

the same people are still running things, the "administration" just makes some minor tweaks here and there. - DrCyclops, on 04/22/2009, -1/+20Something I've learned over the last 10 years or so is that "biased" now means "does not validate my personal beliefs."
- mnemy, on 04/22/2009, -2/+19Don't thank God for it, thank a bunch of nerds with thick glasses.
- angusm, on 04/22/2009, -1/+17"Uh, nothing to see here, folks, just move along. Wow, did you see this thing about Britney Spears? Hey, look over there, it's a cute panda!"
- 22catches, on 04/22/2009, -0/+14This is the Daily Show's take on it after the article in the New York Times came out last year:
http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?vide ... - jezsik, on 04/22/2009, -0/+14It's always been about resources. Usually it was to grab the other guy's resources. Corporate America has learned it's easier to grab OUR money.
- McNerd, on 04/22/2009, -1/+14What does Obama have to do with this? If I find out that he's continuing these policies, I'll be mad. In fact, I expect nothing less from him or from any President than to use any tool at his disposal, legitimate or otherwise. So, I expect Obama will piss me off here, as he has in some other ways.
Now, let's talk about you. Why can't you enter a thread about the most obvious, blatant wrongdoing without claiming it's a partisan attack? Do we now have to end every sentence about Bush with the phrase "but Obama's not perfect either"? Or do you mean that I, as someone who believes that one or more mistakes were made during the eight years of the Bush administration, am obligated not to talk about them because "MTV" and "People magazine" write bad articles about Obama? - WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -3/+15B-but.... we're *always* been at war with Eastasia =(
- Swift2, on 04/22/2009, -2/+14"The media" is really just a big gossip club. They lean over the back fence, pick up whatever garbage the neighbors are talking about, and repeat it. Of course, that's always been true, but now, instead of hundreds of family businesses across the country, some of them very good and some of them very bad, we have, predominately, Rupert Murdoch, GE, Time-Warner and a few other megacorporations in charge of our "news." The most important story on Fox on any given day is what the conservative hierarchy says is important. For the rest, it's just whatever the biggest audience can be delivered to. All Britney news, all the time. All gossip. All cynical political news. If they don't mention it, you shouldn't think it.
- DrCyclops, on 04/22/2009, -1/+13I don't think Joe Arpaio feels a need inform himself on anything. He is powered solely by his own smug sense of self-righteousness, and facts would only get in the way of "enforcing the law."
- charlie6969, on 04/22/2009, -3/+15Apparently so.
Dang, this is heartbreaking.
DUGG, DUGG, DUGG.
Think I will call the White House and give them hell today! (politely, of course.) - jezsik, on 04/22/2009, -7/+18Bush? No, the ruling party. Have a look at Chomsky's "Manufacturing Consent" to see who's REALLY in charge.
- s32843, on 04/22/2009, -0/+11"Liberal Media"? They work for their own interests, specifically their shareholders' interests. Free Press, yes, the media has freedom to pursue the maximum profits. That's why Iraq war was so easy to start, and the fed is so easy to borrow money from China.
I remembered Noam Chomsky had said something about US media. Here it is:
"The mass media in the United States largely serve as a propaganda arm and 'bought priesthood' of the U.S. government and U.S. corporations, with the three parties all largely intertwined through common interests."
-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noam_Chomsky - jiggawatt, on 04/22/2009, -2/+12Your idea of "being a dick" is "not marketing my idealogy". You really need to examine what your idea of fair and balanced media is. CNN had a dickish reporter that attacked a guy at one of the rallies, but the media reported and that this Tea Party was funded, supported, and marketed by ultra conservatives as an Obama hate party. The idea of protesting taxes is one thing, but that's not what most of the Tea parties were really about. I saw coverage of the parties, but you're being totally misaligned by Fox's emphatic support and marketing of the event as the baseline for fair coverage. Anyone with an impartial eye can see that Fox was being very biased on the event.
Too many people spout off that the media is liberal if it doesn't opinionate, or valid their ideals on every story. - mfc5200, on 04/22/2009, -1/+11Also, the Real News Network is pretty good. It is completely donation supported, so they are pretty impartial.
http://therealnews.com/t/ - bowens44, on 04/22/2009, -2/+11another neo-con jumps up and down grabbing his crotch and screeching 'what about him? what about him'?
Hilarious! No wonder you morons can't win elections..... - inactive, on 04/22/2009, -0/+9Props to Glenn Greenwald, and props to the Digg community for getting his articles on the front page more and more. His articles don't always have the catchiest headlines, and are way too complex to boil down to a few buzzwords, so it's even more of an accomplishment to get his stuff in the top 10 Hottest.
- anarchist101, on 04/22/2009, -0/+9It is merely the tip of the iceberg.

Check - retardrus, on 04/22/2009, -0/+8The media is NOT news, it's entertainment. It has been for a while and that's not going to change anytime soon. What needs to happen is to make more people aware of the fact that the "news" they are getting on TV is in fact garbage. Spread the word, and the more people will stop paying attention to the boobs on TV and more on real journalists. Lets make a difference bitches
And it has little to do with "liberal" or "conservative", same nonsense, don't buy into it. Real news is real news, it has nothing to do with being liberal, independent, or conservative based. Give us the facts, please. - inactive, on 04/22/2009, -1/+9This is why the major media companies work so hard to maintain the illusion of a left vs. right struggle: keeping us occupied with ***** allows them to fulfill their agenda undisturbed.
- saisumimen, on 04/22/2009, -0/+8(corporate-owned) media = *****.
When the media is owned by the corporations, don't expect the media to tell you all the bad things about said corporations. - ProLick, on 04/22/2009, -0/+8Read beyond the first paragraphs and you'll find that NBC continues to do more of the same and employ the same shills, which is why I highlighted them.
- canchin, on 04/22/2009, -0/+8Ah, don't be so hard on the Med...*gasp, choke cough* - media, they are working very diligently to support the dumbing down of the people of several nations in support of whatever regime happens to be paying their salaries, by trivializing what is heard so that nobody really pays any attention.
All one has to do is watch the Contrived Ne..*gasp, choke cough*..News Network for a few minutes and the triviality of their so-called "repor...*gasp, choke cough*...reporters shines brightly through as they spend endless hours commenting on the first dog, or what so-and-so was or is wearing.
Using their paid-for mouthpieces to trivialize reality is now the most popular method used by governments to obfuscate the truth, and it is, after all, eaten up by the majority of the population in those countries where it is used 24 hours a day.
After all, every minute used to comment on some women's shoes or handbag, or somebody's dog, or making what some actor says or does a major ne...*gasp, choke cough*...news story, gets oohs and ahhs galore and effectively eats up time that could be better used to actually discuss what is important...and nobody in the governments in those countries wants that.
Keep it trivial is the way to keep the populace safely lobotomized without the need for a messy operation.
Yep, destroy the "hard copy" paper industry so that all anyone can get is fluff and feel-good from the TV.
Thank God - or Al Gore - the internet still exists where searching can actually still provide some reality for those actually wanting to know something and not just search for pics of Britney Spears without panties...except of course for those websites that carry their trivializing onto the internet...like those websites report...*gasp, choke cough*...reporting on pantyless, braindead nobodies. - Dumbledorito, on 04/22/2009, -4/+11"Why does any advanced civilization seek to destroy less advanced one? Because the land is strategically valuable, because there are resources that can be cultivated and exploited, but most of all, simply because they can."
- G'Kar, "Babylon 5" - seanayb, on 04/22/2009, -0/+7Thank you bought-and-paid-for media. There's a special place in hell for you.
- zip000, on 04/22/2009, -0/+7I honestly had not at all heard of this story, and I consider myself relatively plugged in.
I'm not surprised about it though. I find Brian Williams to be very personable, and though I don't really trust the media much at all, I'm still disappointed by this. -
