- airencracken, on 09/19/2008, -10/+193Keep this in mind whenever McCain calls himself a reformer.
- inactive, on 09/20/2008, -2/+103he was old back then too..
- treehugger87, on 09/19/2008, -4/+96McCain hasn't changed his ways in over 20 years. He just learned young through the Keating scandal how to successfully manage his image. In 2000 I believed in John McCain and was pissed when Bush got the nomination., but given this and everything else that we've found out about him, I doubt anything would have been different if McCain had become President in 2000 instead of Bush.
- otchmoson, on 09/19/2008, -5/+84There was a time when "robbery" was kept out of site. And memories seem to be short (who actually REMEMBERS the pain caused by the Keating 5 shenanigans). It seems we are now getting robbed in broad daylight . . . by robbers who smile as they victimize us.
- inactive, on 09/20/2008, -1/+74ROFL, I thought it was a picture of McCain in Vietnam with some hooker
Still good though
Keep it real Keatin' 5 McCain! - inactive, on 09/20/2008, -12/+75Anyone who votes for McCain is an *****, seriously.
- elipabst, on 09/20/2008, -0/+48If they played kazoo music in the background while he chased Palin around in it, it'd be the Benny Hill Show.
- Snap65, on 09/20/2008, -5/+51I'm drunk and I want a party hat like that. whoooooooooooooooooooooo
- jamesalfaro, on 09/20/2008, -2/+47Vacationing with the Keatings, The McCains had made at least nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard the American Continental jet. Three of trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay.
An article written by Bill Muller of The Arizona Republic describes the intimate details of John McCain’s key role in the Keating Five Scandal.

McCain: The Most Reprehensible of the Keating Five
http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1989-11-29/news/mcc ... - egregiousfdl, on 09/20/2008, -3/+38Awesome picture. When McCain says "my friends..." THIS is who he is talking about.
- EuroMarkus, on 09/20/2008, -1/+35The US seems to have "battered wife syndrome"
Even with the US as bad as it is over the past 8 years, half of the country still support the people who battered them!
It's amazing
It's like a woman who just goes back again and again, for another punch, thinking things will be different. - TheAmazingBob, on 09/20/2008, -3/+34Look! It's the Mad Hatter!
- jojordan, on 09/20/2008, -2/+30I think this should be taken with a grain of salt, after all, when McCain was a P.O.W., he wasn't allowed to have parties in the Bahamas with corrupt financiers.
- bwdd, on 09/20/2008, -4/+32Dear Digg:
All republicans are not John McCain or George Bush.
The good republicans think ron paul - TeddySanFran, on 09/20/2008, -2/+28McCain is D A N G E R O U S
- inactive, on 09/20/2008, -1/+26he didn't say republicans are *****, he said people who vote for McCain are - has nothing to do with party affiliation.
- watertiger10, on 09/20/2008, -3/+28He couldn't find a lampshade big enough to fit over his ego.
- egregiousfdl, on 09/20/2008, -4/+27The Democrats should be talking nonstop about the Keating Five. Hello? Crickets?
- NoDrama, on 09/20/2008, -2/+22Price of the Phoenix Gazette in '93: less than $1
The hat: $15
Pictures of you partying with Keating circulating on the internet: PRICELESS - egregiousfdl, on 09/20/2008, -2/+21I must have one of these hats.
- AshScholl, on 09/20/2008, -3/+21Is that a cactus sombrero?
- dedpoet777, on 09/20/2008, -1/+18that hat is called "the maverick"
that must be what they mean when i hear that word 5 trillion times a day.
one thing is for sure....that is no "thinking cap". - inactive, on 09/20/2008, -0/+16He was old 200 years ago.
- depro9, on 09/20/2008, -3/+19McCain could eat babies & the Repubiscum would still vote for him.
- inactive, on 09/20/2008, -1/+17You are. Thanks for playing.
- Zeitgeist101, on 09/20/2008, -0/+15MCSame's b-day this year was spent a a yacht with a big time swindler, McSames Birthday the day after Katrina hit was celebrated at the White House with Bush presenting him a birthday cake while people were drowning...SO WHATS NEW???
- Lordx87, on 09/20/2008, -1/+16This is insane...
This could hit the press and really tear up some old feelings. - NotYourProdigy, on 09/20/2008, -1/+15Mad that he was there with Keating. Can't say I've never worn a stupid hat at a party, though.
- pintomp3, on 09/20/2008, -1/+15a vote for mccain should come with enlistment paper.
- katiedogg, on 09/20/2008, -3/+16Toga!
- egregiousfdl, on 09/20/2008, -3/+16This must be his deep thinking cap. Lots of good ideas about the government.
- inactive, on 09/20/2008, -0/+13Looks like a picture out of the Bohemian Grove!!!
- EuroMarkus, on 09/20/2008, -2/+15I still can't understand why Obama hasn't made a TV ad of this yet.
The KEATING FIVE, and the S&L bailout with the RTC is the modern-day of what happened this week.
McCain should have gone to jail with Keating.
Why doesn't Obama jump on this and "finish him!" - heystoopid, on 09/20/2008, -0/+13Great reformer in reducing wife's annual tax bill only .
- EarlOfLade, on 09/20/2008, -0/+13I've always thought he was a POW during the Civil War, the last survivor or does it just look like he is?
- 4321234, on 09/20/2008, -0/+13from wikipedia on keating 5:
Not everyone was satisfied with the Senate Ethics Committee conclusions. Fred Wertheimer, president of Common Cause, which had initially demanded the investigation, thought the treatment of the senators far too lenient, and said, "The U.S. Senate remains on the auction block to the Charles Keatings of the world." Joan Claybrook, president of Public Citizen, called it a "whitewash". Jonathan Alter of Newsweek said it was a classic case of the government trying to investigate itself, labelling the Senate Ethics Committee "shameless" for having "let four of the infamous Keating Five off with a wrist tap." Margaret Carlson of Time suspected the committee had timed its first report to coincide with the run-up to the Gulf War, minimizing its news impact. One of the San Francisco bank regulators felt that McCain had gotten off too lightly, saying that Keating's business involvement with Cindy McCain was an obvious conflict of interest. - spaceman84, on 09/20/2008, -0/+1295% of Republicans aren't true conservative Republicans. That's why he only got about 4% of the primary votes.
Just like you could say that not all Democrats are liberals...but that small percentage of Democrats that are conservatives is so small that it doesn't even bear mentioning. - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -0/+12That's a ***** perfect description for this whole circus.
- deadbaby, on 09/20/2008, -1/+12I'm really surprised the Keating scandal hasn't been an issue yet in the mainstream media. I suppose it's fairly complex and therefore doesn't make for a good fast food style story but I think the voters deserve to know McCain was involved in one of the biggest government scandals in the history of this country.
- ironhide, on 09/20/2008, -4/+15Take your tired right-wing talking points and shove them.
- sputnicks, on 09/20/2008, -2/+13I can't believe anybody would be stupid enough to want 4 more years of this. Unbelievable.
- EuroMarkus, on 09/20/2008, -3/+14I don't remember Obama's buddies asking him to help them get investigators off their back, and being part of the biggest bailout in history -- the S&Ls by the RTC.
And this came right before Bush Sr was elected.
Now Bush Jr is in office with his buddy McCain, and we have to bail out more buddies all over again.
Generations will be paying the debt.
Hecka'va Job! - inactive, on 09/20/2008, -2/+13I wonder why I don't see Digg's "McCain brigade" commenting on this article.....
- AshScholl, on 09/20/2008, -0/+11...or about the hat!
- Jizzake, on 09/20/2008, -1/+12when i was a POW we didnt have silly hats
- Leo55, on 09/20/2008, -2/+12McCain looks as old as he is now. How damn old IS HE?
- EuroMarkus, on 09/20/2008, -3/+13Bush Sr = McCain, Iraq War, Deregulation, Biggest Bailout in History
Bush Jr = McCain, Iraq War, Deregulation, Biggest Bailout in History
See any connections here? - King0007, on 09/20/2008, -5/+15Have you noticed on all negative McCain/Palin posts..... "Digg users thought this information to be inaccurate" 3....2......1......
