- SheilaNoya, on 08/05/2008, -19/+69So wait a minute... McCain is now pandering to Catholics looking for something to smear Obama with?
Just a few months ago, McCain claimed he was a Southern Baptist when he was sucking up to John Hagee, who called Catholics "The Great Whore".
McCain has sunk to typical Republican tactics... using people's faith as a sleazy political tool. How sad. - davidwasman, on 08/05/2008, -2/+23Can we please stop with all the smears and validating them by submitting them? We're giving life to these ridiculous charges by digging this article.
Let's move on to real issues, please. This is getting ridiculous...and childish. - EnviroChem, on 05/22/2009, -13/+34McCain can't win on his merits so his surrogates must use smear tactics, fear mongering and outrageous distortions of the truth to assassinate Obama's character. They have no shame and questionable morals.
- rhabd0mancer, on 08/05/2008, -13/+31"But in August 2004, it was revealed that Hudson had an affair with an 18-year-old Fordham University student while he was a teacher at that institution. The sordid story, reported first by the National Catholic Reporter, involved Hudson joining a group of students at a pre-Lenten "Fat Tuesday" party in Greenwich Village, bringing the drunk student back to his office, and ultimately, exchanging sexual favors. When the affair, which cost Hudson his tenured position, was exposed, he resigned from the Bush reelection team."
Does John McCain approve of this behavior? It seems he does, otherwise Hudson wouldn't be advising him. - Coven, on 08/05/2008, -0/+16Technically 18 =/= child
She was legal. - lmrgreen, on 08/05/2008, -12/+25This is absolutely disgusting and beneath any person's dignity - especially someone who wants to be President of the US. McCain is getting very desperate and it's only August!!!
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -9/+22I think that the Catholics should probably stop worrying about imaginary infanticides and concentrate on the very real pedophiliacs they have been shielding from prosecution.
Of course that would require that they learn the difference between "real" and "imaginary." - BXRWXR, on 08/05/2008, -0/+12Flip-flopping is not strictly limited to positions.
- duckyinc, on 08/05/2008, -5/+16Seriously Obama isn't killing children, anyone with common sense can see that. Then again digg harbors most of the MacCain smear campaigns
- Albear89, on 08/05/2008, -12/+19Huffington Trash. Bury
- jorichter, on 08/05/2008, -0/+7These arguments get worse and worse... How is Obama not further in the Polls?
- OC73, on 08/05/2008, -9/+16Obama does support late term abortion though, correct?
- kolop1, on 08/05/2008, -10/+17Won't both side use smear tactics? It's politics. Buried as lame.
- scoottie, on 08/05/2008, -9/+15huffington spam but for a change its not makimaki
- AJanitor, on 08/05/2008, -6/+12Hey, I'm anti-abortion but I'm also anti-war.
I value all human life, period. I don't buy John McCain for a second, anyone who tells me life is sacred and will oppose abortion laws but supports wars and sends our loved ones to fight pointless wars isn't valuing human life.
I voted for Ron Paul don't blame me. - Nightfall, on 08/05/2008, -4/+9Whats even more shameful are that people believe this stuff. Look at the swiftboat veterans in 2004 for instance. The American people ate that up like a steak dinner. Its an absolute travesty that George W. Bush got reelected, but the GOP really smeared the hell out of Kerry. That and in all the battleground states they put in a vote to ban gay marriage which made the right wingers turn out in droves.
The American people have got to wake up. We cannot elect someone just on the basis of how they are as a person. We have to elect them based on how good a job they will do and what they plan to bring to the position. Instead, a bulk of the American people are more about gossip and believing everything they read about a candidate and less about the job they will do.
Frankly, I am sick of it. - DragoonWraith, on 08/05/2008, -1/+6In theory, using a position of authority (teacher) to pressure someone into sex is roughly equivalent to the theory for statutory rape - that even if the person in question agreed to it, the consent is invalid because of the inequality of the relationship.
In reality, these cases are not nearly so black and white - plenty of cases like these involve people who actually have given complete consent and the inequal relationship outside of the sexual one was merely coincidental, i.e. there was no trickery, pressure, or coercion involved.
But the law chooses to make things black and white because proving that there was an unfair element to the relationship is very hard when the "victim" doesn't consider him or herself to be victimized. The potential harm in such a thing is great enough that society has decided that all such relationships shall be illicit; if it's true love, wait til graduation, otherwise, just find someone else - this is a mess not worth getting involved in.
I'm not sure I agree, but that's essentially what the problem is. - scamper22, on 08/05/2008, -2/+7no clue why ur getting dugg down.
I'm a pretty liberal person in terms of freedom, but late term abortion... that is simply murder / infanticide. It's a basic rights issue.
Hey look, the woman has up to 3-4 months to decide to abort the baby. She also has numerous birth control options. She has plenty of freedom to do what she wants. Once the child is developed up to 6 months or so, hey... that's a living baby.. it's not just a lump of cells anymore.
Somethings should not be determined by politicians. I don't care how many people think its 'right'. Slavery also existed and politicians and people thought it was okay. This is basic issue of morality. Hey, we finally got a point where we recognized black people as real people. Maybe one day we will recognize the baby inside the womb as a person.
The fact that Obama voted for late-term abortions is sickening. I don't care if its just pandering to his democratic base... if he can pander on this basic issue of morality, he will pander to anything. - nblsavage, on 08/05/2008, -3/+8but I was talking to you monkey boy. Quite frankly you whiners are more of a problem than HuffPo posts will ever be.
- TooSquirrely, on 08/05/2008, -1/+6Actually the correct analogy would be if someone came to you and said "Do you tell people you hate gays?" and you refused to respond so that person told everyone that you are a homophobe.
Obama is not pro-infanticide he is pro-stopping bundled legislation that pro-lifers try to slip by him. - Zanzabar33, on 08/05/2008, -11/+16Huffington post... why are you so lame?
- nblsavage, on 08/05/2008, -4/+9Actually when I see someone crying about HuffPo I digg the story up. Digg down the complainer and report them.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -2/+6This one is actually true:
http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a ...
Not expected from Huffingpoo, but this one is actually accurate (well, the info is accurate and then smothered with bias opinion, but still accurate). - DirkBelig, on 08/05/2008, -10/+14To all you blind Obamessiah followers, one simple question: If actively blocking legislation that would require babies who survive abortion attempts to receive medical care doesn't qualify as infanticide, what the hell does?!?
The Born Alive Act was supported by die-hard militant abortion advocates including NARAL (whose sole reason for existence is to promote as many abortions as possible), Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. As much as they support abortion, even they knew that this was too much to sell to the public.
Barack Obama is more extreme than NARAL. Obama doesn't want any baby who isn't wanted to survive. He figures, "Hey, the woman doesn't want the child, so what's the difference? If the stupid doctor didn't mess up in the first place, it would've died, so what's the big deal if we let it lie there and suffer on a tray until it expires?"
Sorry, you apostles of the Obamessiah, but he IS for infanticide. That you are hysterically shrieking ad hominems about some McCain supporter reveals how desperate you are to deflect these inconvenient truths away from your Lord and Master. - vexingmodstwo, on 08/05/2008, -12/+16Obama is getting creamed on the energy issue!!! QUICK! Change the subject to something no one cares about!
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -3/+7It's uter-US not uter-YOU!
- Changa, on 08/05/2008, -3/+7It is true! Obama eats babies!
- Ninjapope, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4Man, they're really grabbing for straws, aren't they?
- iTeo, on 08/05/2008, -1/+5Blah Blah Blah poor Obama. I think there is a Digg-Obama generator that just changes the words and puts in a new complaint...voila! You have a new Digg front page news story.
- teabizket, on 08/05/2008, -2/+6Ouch! As a Catholic I'm offended, but I gotta digg it b/c it's so true ... not to mention funny.
When will we Catholics admit we have a huge problem at home and we need to clean our own house first? Perhaps when we Americans do the same with the issues that make us go overseas and try to clean someone else's house? - pinchduck, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3You certainly have a point, the Catholics have to get their ***** together if they wish to represent themselves to the world as a valid religion. Abortions, however, are all too real. If you kill a pregnant woman in some states, you can be charged with two homicides. That gives the killing of a fetus a classification of infanticide, however tenuous. Painting someone who is pro choice as guilty of infanticide is a bit too far, but the two issues are separate. I guess that is why election years are called the "silly season".
- Metellus, on 08/05/2008, -2/+5I wouldn't really mind this being posted twice if the wording wasn't so painful to read.
- dalittle, on 08/05/2008, -2/+5How about bringing back the discussion of an actual problem of Obama, his vote on FISA. He has yet to make it right and it is hard to care about any smears he is getting if he is not going to represent the people of the United States.
- HonestAbe, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Clearly, the only solution is violent rebellion. That always solves everything.
- f4nt0m4s, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3The definition of "infanticide" is the killing of an infant, indeed.
So, in a sense, you are right. McCain could probably just platform that Obama supports 2nd or 3rd trimester abortions. In which case you would raise a moral ***** with lots of people, not just religious folk.
I know plenty of atheists that think it is wrong to kill an 8 month old fetus.
Many people might think that abortion in the 2nd a 3rd trimester should only be a "societal necessity" if it is to save the life of the mother. - laughandsing, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3MacEnvy---You do realize that children in the 3rd trimester can survive out of the womb...right? Why would that be a necessity for society? That is infanticide. What is the change that happens when the child is out of the womb? Do they magically become human? If you are going to argue from the stance that a child is a fetus...wouldn't that be before the child could survive on their own outside the mother? All McCain was doing was stating Obama's view. Both side's are 'smearing' each other right now... Really all that is being done is stating what the candidate is in support of. If you have voted for something, then people should know about it. Don't you think people should be educated when voting? Most people aren't.
- virtualball, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3"By talking about her husband's good looks, Michelle makes it sound like Senator McCain's Paris Hilton "celebrity" ad was right on point."
Is a wife not allowed to say she likes the way her husband looks? Or, are only good looking people celebrities? This is trash... - HonestAbe, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Shhhhh ... let them get overconfident
- urgeigh, on 08/05/2008, -1/+4Hey when half of our country is using their faith as their #1 determining factor in who they vote for what do you expect? Stupid people are the reason politics and politicians are the way they are. To quote someone who was a genius, "Don't hate the player, hate the game."
- Hetman, on 08/05/2008, -3/+6This is stupid. There are more important things that Obama has done wrong. I mean he did vote for the revised patriot act and FISA. Not to mention his energy policies need much more improvement.
- radiofrequency, on 08/05/2008, -2/+5Obama did support infanticide as a state senator in IL. It's not a smear, it's the truth. Instead of engaging in partisan wrangling like you did with the energy policy before realizing the Republicans have the right policy, libs need to get informed on their candidate if they're going to vote in America's best interests.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -2/+5This is awesome, Rasmussen has McCain ahead of Obama and all the Obama campaign can do is cry RACISM.
You know what? Obama blew it, he blew it with his arrogance, his crying like a little girl and the pompousness of his followers.
Americans hate a cocky bastard and will bring them down every time. - inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Whoops!
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama ...
http://www.electoral-vote.com/ - krnldmp, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Smear tactics is NOT politics. Its what some politicians want to keep you stuck on so they can get away with their agenda. Real politics would be too interesting and easy to solve if most people were allowed any time to think about it. Some people don't like that.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -9/+12Roman Catholics, traditionally, have named their children after saints. Was there a Saint Deal? I say let Deal shoot his mouth off all he wants, since that will, most likely, work to Obama's favor, and McCain's detriment.
- Zippo, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Man, January is too ***** far away... I'm getting pretty sick of this over-sensationalized horse-beating.
- urgeigh, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3lol I was kinda being sarcastic, it also said she was drinking. Taking advantage of a drunk 18 year old is wrong, even if she is "legal" (as far as the sex goes) in my book and I'm only 24.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -3/+5Infanticide... BAD!
War... GOOD!
Using depleted uranium shells that cause infanticide amongst "enemy" children... COLLATERAL DAMAGE! - inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Their ***** their pants right now.
- urgeigh, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2That's a stupid, stupid hypothetical. I'm totally against abortion, but saying things like that does not prove a point.
